The main changes, in addition to visual:

  • Help information about our company has been added to the Quick Settings page, including the contact numbers of the service center, as well as our partners, the Computers-Kaluga.rf company, which specializes in the supply of computers, components, and other equipment.
  • In the wireless network settings (WiFi), instead of the Auto channel, the default is now the 4th channel (naturally, all settings can be changed at your discretion), because with the Auto option, it was noticed that some WiFi devices, even when they are in close proximity to the router, determine the signal level in this option as weak or very weak. Forced channel selection for the wireless network helps fix this issue.
  • Also, the default mode is 802.11 b/g mixed, because in the version with 802.11 B/G/N mixed, some devices that do not support the IEEE 802.11n standard in this mode could not always work correctly on the network, or there were problems with connecting to WiFi.
  • The default access point name has been changed to COMPKALUGA-B7, the default password is WPA2-PSK to compkaluga2013. By default, the authentication type is set to Open, i.e. wireless network without password. It is recommended to change the network name, set the WPA2 encryption type and change the default password immediately after the first login to the router web interface.
  • Plus a few more minor, mostly interface fixes.
Firmware screenshots:

p.s. We remind you that this firmware is only for D-Link DIR-300/NRU/ B7, do not try to update another device with it, before flashing, make sure that you have exactly DIR-300 / NRU and exactly H / W revision B7. By using this firmware, you agree that you accept all responsibility for your actions, tk. in case of unsuccessful firmware (for example, if you upload this firmware to a router of a different revision, etc.), there is a risk of getting a "brick", i.e. an inoperative device, which you can bring back to life only at the official D-Link service center.

p.p.s. Just in case, let me remind you that the so-called Failsafe UI is provided in D-Link devices of this series for recovering from unsuccessful firmware. To enter it, you need to register IP - 192.168.0.2 in the PC network card, pull out the power cable from the router, hold down the Reset button next to the power connector with your finger. Connect the power cord, while continuing to hold Reset, after 20 seconds. - you can let him go. You can then log into the Failsafe UI at http://192.168.0.1 . The LAN cable that connects the PC to the router must be inserted into the LAN1 connector.

The need for router firmware arises only in cases where restoration of its operation is required or the developers of the device have released an update that adds many different functions and has software fixes. Then the user needs to manually enter the router settings and install a new firmware using one of the available methods. This also applies to the D-Link DIR-300 NRU B7 model.

Installing the firmware for the D-Link DIR-300 NRU B7 router

Before starting the steps, we immediately want to note that the D-Link DIR-300 NRU B7 model differs from the usual DIR-300 or other specifications, so carefully study the inscriptions on the router stickers before installing the files so as not to accidentally install the wrong firmware. If you are interested in updating the DIR-300 model, we advise you to read a separate article on this topic by clicking on the link below.

Method 1: Remote update

The router's web interface has a function that allows you to update the firmware remotely or simply in automatic mode, where all files will be downloaded from a special official server. There is nothing complicated in performing this task, you just need to carry out the following steps:

  1. Open a browser to go to the web interface by entering 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 depending on the router settings.
  2. Next, a pop-up form will appear for entering the login and password for accessing the router's management menu. By default, you need to enter admin in each field, if the user himself has not changed the data before.
  3. We immediately recommend changing the interface language to Russian so that there are no problems with understanding the names of sections and tabs.
  4. Go to category "System" and open "Software Update".
  5. Here, start the automatic check for updates by clicking on the appropriate button.
  6. Confirm the launch of the scan by reading the notification that it may take some time.
  7. Wait for the search to complete.
  8. After that click on "Apply Settings" to install the new firmware version.
  9. If you would like to automatically receive updates in the future, it is recommended to check the box "Check for updates automatically" and enter the address fwupdate.dlink.ru in the field.

Upon completion of the installation of all new files, the router will be rebooted. If this does not happen, send the device to restart yourself by clicking on the appropriate button on the case or in the web interface.

Method 2: Local update

The second method involves manually downloading files and then installing them. D-Link puts all the necessary information on its FTP server, so finding the BIN file of the firmware is not difficult. The only condition is that all actions must be performed from a computer connected to the router directly via a LAN cable so that the connection is not interrupted and the equipment is not turned off.

  1. Open the D-Link file directory by going to the above FTP server. There, through the search that pops up by clicking on ctrl+f, find the D-Link DIR-300 NRU B7 model and change to the root directory.
  2. Find the folder Firmware.
  3. Select one of the available versions and the automatic download will begin.
  4. Wait for the download of the firmware file to complete and proceed further.
  5. Having moved to the web interface as shown earlier, proceed to adding the firmware file.
  6. In the browser, find and open the item you want.
  7. Verify that the file was successfully selected, and then click on "Update".

The whole procedure for flashing the D-Link DIR-300 NRU B7 router consists only in finding and installing the necessary files. The first method will be optimal for those who want to get the latest software version, and the second will allow you to select any firmware build.

The Dlink dir-300 wireless router is a kind of dinosaur among routers of its class, suffice it to say that after the first Dlink dir-300 model became outdated, various analogues of Dlink dir-300 B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7 began to appear, which are superior in terms of speed and functionality of its prototype. But in order to use the additional functionality without interruption, I recommend updating your Dlink to the latest firmware, this is what this article is devoted to.

The first step is to set up a network on a computer / laptop on automatic acquisition of IP address and DNS server

Be sure to find out the hardware revision (H/W) of your router before updating the firmware. To do this, look at the glued label, which is located at the bottom of the router. This sticker has an inscription that begins with "H/W Ver.:"., The letter and number following it indicates the hardware revision, also pay attention to the firmware version “F/W Ver.:”

After you have determined the revision of your DIR-300 NRU and its version, download the latest firmware, according to the revision
Important!!! DO NOT install firmware for DIR-300 NRU hardware revisions B1, B2 and B3 in a DIR-300 NRU router with hardware revision B5, B6 and vice versa. This will lead to a complete failure of your device. After that, it will be possible to restore the router only for money by contacting a specialized service center.
If you have Dlink dir-300 NRU B1/ B2/ B3 then download this firmware from here .
If Dlink dir-300 NRU B5/ B6/ B7 then you need to download the firmware here from here .
If you have Dlink dir-300A/B, download firmware from here.
In this article, for example, I will update the Dlink dir-300 NRU firmware (hardware revision B5), but the update process for all Dlink routers is similar, so it may also be suitable for updating the Dlink dir-300 NRU B1, B2, B3, B6, B7.

So let's start, in the browser (Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox is recommended.) Enter the address of your router in the address bar, the default is 192.168.0.1 (login admin, password admin)

Then, for security purposes, Dlink will offer to change the password, enter and click "Save".

This will open the web interface of the router.

In order to start the update, you need to go along the path "System - Software Update".

Then press "Review" specify the path to the downloaded update and click "Update".

The wireless router or, as it is more simply called, the D-Link DIR-300 NRU B7 Wi-Fi router is one of the latest models of DIR-300 series routers from D-Link - one of the most affordable and very common with us. And this is the first DIR-300 that has undergone significant changes in design compared to its predecessors; however, it is not about that. In this manual, we will talk about how to update the firmware on this device, where to download the firmware for the DIR-300 B7, and why you need router firmware at all.

Why might a router firmware be required?

In some cases, and this applies to the D-Link router to a greater extent than routers from other manufacturers, it is possible to achieve the full operation of the router and all its functions only after installing the latest firmware for this device. However, sometimes the latest official firmware also turns out to be unstable, in this case they select the one that works most adequately on a particular device or look for an alternative firmware. Here we will look at how to install the latest official firmware on D-Link DIR-300 rev.B7, in most cases, this is enough for normal Internet operation both via wires and Wi-Fi.

Before flashing DIR-300 NRU B7

The first thing to do before proceeding directly with updating the firmware of the router is to download the latest firmware for DIR-300 NRU B7 from the official D-Link website:

Also, before you begin to perform any actions with the router, it is recommended to disconnect the provider's cable from it (if connected) and all devices connected to it via a Wi-Fi wireless network. The connection with the computer from which the firmware will be made is carried out using a network cable, which is desirable to connect from the side of the router to the LAN1 connector.

One last thing, if this is the first time you have connected the DIR-300 NRU B7 to your computer, also make sure that the LAN connection settings are set to:

  • Obtain an IP address automatically
  • Obtain DNS server address automatically

At this preparatory stage is over, let's move on to the flashing itself.

Firmware DIR-300 B7 through the web interface of the router

In order to install new firmware on the D-Link DIR-300 NRU B7 Wi-Fi router, launch any Internet browser and enter the address 192.168.0.1 in the address bar, go to this address, then:

  1. When prompted for a login and password, enter the values \u200b\u200bthat are standard for all D-Link routers - admin and admin. If you have changed these values, enter your own. If you have not changed them, but the standard login and password are not suitable, and the correct password is not known, then you will have to reset the router to factory settings. To do this, press and hold the Reset button on the back of the device for about 10 seconds, then release it and give the router about a minute to reboot.
  2. You will be taken to the main settings page of the DIR-300 B7 router, here you should select the "Advanced settings" link at the bottom of the page.
  3. On the advanced settings page, in the "System" item, click the small double arrow to the right shown there, then select the "Software Update" item.
  4. Click the "Browse" button and specify the path to the latest router firmware file that was downloaded earlier.
  5. Click the Update button.

After you click on the specified button, the process of flashing the DIR-300NRU B7 router will begin. During this, things can happen such as disconnection from the router, errors in the browser, and others. They should not scare or embarrass you: most likely, everything goes on as usual. Just wait about 5 minutes or until you get a message that the software update was successful.

For 300nru h/w ver.: b5-7
What is the essence of these actions:
Firmware from DLINK has long been famous for its underdevelopment and curvature. They cut speed, blunt, hang.
Data Routers Revisions b5, b6, b7 identical to family routers ZyXEL KEENETIC START and are perfectly stitched, after certain manipulations, to the firmware from START.

Of the advantages of changing to START:
faster router performance
no glitches and freezes

Of the minuses:
the processor is heated, it is desirable, but not necessary, the radiator.

The firmware process itself:
If you have a router out of the box, with firmware 1.2.94 and below, then start from point 4 .
If you have firmware version 1.4.9 , then you need to restore the old bootloader in the router, which will allow you to flash the desired firmware. Downgrading (downgrading) firmware will not help you, because they do not restore the bootloader.
The new bootloader will not let you flash the "left" firmware not from DLINK.

How to downgrade uboot and upgrade from official firmware 1.4.9 to keenetic start firmware:

1. Downgrading off. firmware and upgraded to Keenetic LiteB.
NIC address 192.168.0.2, subnet mask 255.255.255.0 default gateway 192.168.0.1
(I left automatic)

Through the web interface, sequential downgrading of firmware versions:
192.168.0.1 => Software Update => DIR_300NRUB5_1.3.0__12012012.bin => DIR_300NRUB5-1.2.94-20110414.bin => DIR_300NRUB5-to-KeeneticLiteB.fwz

(There is a set of firmware in the .bin and .fwz format in the archive. I don’t remember where I got it from, but it was flashed with them. I safely downgraded the versions and switched to Light)

2. Run the tftpd.32r server on the computer
Download bootloader - mtd1.bin and rename it to uboot.bin, put in the root folder of the tftp server or specify the path to the folder with the file in the server settings uboot.bin

3.
Network card address 192.168.1.2, subnet mask 255.255.255.0
(also left automatic)
Enter telnet "ohm into the router:
telnet 192.168.1.1
Enter password (1234 or your own)
Get root access:
flash || sh
Copy the bootloader from the computer to the router's memory:
tftp -g -r uboot.bin -l /var/tmp/uboot.bin 192.168.1.33 (or corresponding computer address)
Upload the bootloader to the mtdblock / 0 section
cat /var/tmp/uboot.bin >/dev/mtdblock/0
reboot router:
reboot

Enable telnet client in Win7\8 (on XP telnet is enabled by default)
Start -> Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Turn windows features on or off -> Telnet Client (tick) -> OK

Running tftpd.32
Dropping a folder with tftpd.32 to disk C. We launch tftpd.32 and select the source 192.168.1.33 (or the address specified in the properties of the network card)

Directly in the Windows7 search bar, forget: telnet 192.168.1.1
Sometimes it does not ask for a password or login. The "#" icon hangs and some other.
Enter flash || sh and try to connect to the router.
Further, everything is according to the instructions.

4. Firmware KEENETIC_START via fail safe ui(recovery mode).
Network card address 192.168.0.10, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, default gateway 192.168.0.1

Through fail safe ui(turn off the router, hold down reset, connect the power, wait 15-20 seconds, release reset)
Enter the address in the browser:
192.168.0.1
select KEENETIC_START-V2.02C1
Wait for the end of the firmware of the router and its reboot. This is 2-4 minutes. Do not turn off the power during the firmware.

5. Set the network card address and subnet mask automatically.
Go to the web interface at 192.168.1.1 --> Reset the router to factory settings.

After all b5-b7 through the web interface, you can upgrade 2.02 to 2.03 from the zyxel web site

You perform all actions with your router at your own peril and risk!

Everything you need in one archive.
