Almost any application distributed in the App Store has in-app purchases that will charge a fixed amount of money from the user's bank card for a certain period of time. You can find completed subscriptions on iPhone. In this article, we will look at how this can be done.

Often, iPhone users are faced with the fact that the same amount of money is debited from their bank card every month. And, as a rule, it turns out that a subscription was issued in the application. A simple example: the application offers to try the full version and advanced features for a month for free, and the user agrees to this. As a result, a subscription is issued on the device, which has a free trial period. After the set time has elapsed, if it is not deactivated in time in the settings, the monthly fee will be automatically charged.

You can find out which subscriptions are issued, and also, if necessary, cancel them both from your phone and through the iTunes program. Earlier on our site, the question of how this can be done on a computer using a popular tool for managing Apple devices was considered in detail.

Method 1: App Store

Method 2: iPhone Settings

Any of the methods given in the article will allow you to find out what subscriptions are issued for the Apple ID account connected to the iPhone.

I devoted this short instruction entirely to the various subscriptions that you can meet when dealing with Apple technology. The emphasis is on the topic of changing and unsubscribing from various subscriptions.

About subscriptions. Basic information

Apple stores (App Store, iTunes Store) have 3 main monetization models:

  • paid application
  • free-2-play - shareware app with in-app purchases
  • subscriptions

The first two models are often combined. The third usually goes by itself.

Subscriptions- this is a model of payment for some services, when a certain amount of money is withdrawn from the user every month, every six months, once a year or one-time (!)

What subscriptions you can meet when using Apple technology:

  • Apple Music, iCloud, iTunes Match subscriptions
  • Newspaper and magazine subscriptions
  • Subscriptions to online services such as HBO NOW, Spotify, Netflix, Pandora, Hulu, etc.
  • Subscriptions within App Store apps (typically services)

There are two types of subscriptions:

  • Non-renewable subscriptions. These can be season tickets for watching some competitions or just some kind of service that operates for a strictly defined time. At the end, you need to renew such a subscription manually.
  • Automatically renewable. That is, after a certain time, if there are enough funds on the user's account, then the money for the next period is automatically debited from it.

Keep in mind that auto-renewal happens a few hours before the next billing period. The Apple website says about 8 hours, some apps say 24 hours. That is, it is better to cancel subscriptions in order to avoid unnecessary write-offs at least a day in advance.

How to disable/change subscription in iOS?

Settings->iTunes Store and App Store.

Tap on your Apple ID. After that, you will need to log in with Touch ID or a password. In the new window you need to find the section Subscriptions and press To rule.

A list of all your subscriptions (if there is more than one) will appear. At the same time, an active subscription or an expired one is immediately visible in the list.

Choose a subscription. Using the available options, you can:

  • change the tariff plan: for example, instead of a monthly subscription, choose an annual one or vice versa
  • disable auto-renew. Then after the paid period the subscription is deactivated

How to disable/change subscription in iTunes?

Good to know in case the iPad/iPhone is sold, for example. Or broke. After all, subscriptions themselves are not canceled in this case, and the money will still be debited from your card.

Open iTunes. If you're not signed in, sign in with your Apple ID.

Select from the menu Account->View. A window will appear asking you to enter your Apple ID and password.

In the new window, scroll down and find the small inscription “Subscriptions”. Click the "Manage" button.

In the list that appears, select the required subscription and change its parameters as you wish.

iCloud and iTunes Match subscriptions

Special mention should be made of iCloud and iTunes Match. These are two Apple services that are provided by subscription only. And the management of these subscriptions does not follow the standard scenario.

iCloud subscription on iOS:

Settings->iCloud->Storage->Change storage plan. Choose the desired rate.

On a Mac computer in OS X

  1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click the iCloud icon.
  2. In the lower right corner, click the "Manage" button.
  3. Click Buy More Space or Change Storage Plan.
  4. Choose a plan, click Next, and enter your Apple ID password.

On a Windows computer

  1. Open iCloud for Windows.
  2. Select "Storage".

Subscribe to iTunes Match allows you to add songs to your iCloud library using iTunes and listen to them on all your devices.

Subscribing to iTunes Match on iOS. Settings->Music->Subscribe to iTunes Match. (In iOS 10, I did not find such an option).

Subscribe to iTunes Match in iTunes. Select from the menu Account->View. A window will appear asking you to enter your Apple ID and password. Scroll down to the “iTunes in the cloud” section. And opposite the iTunes Match line, click the “Details” button.

iTunes Match has only one option - a yearly subscription. The subscription is auto-renewable. To turn off auto-renewal, do the same in iTunes as above, but instead of the "More Info" button, click the "Turn off auto-renewal" button.

About a free Apple Music subscription

When you sign in to the Music app in iOS (or the Music section in iTunes), Apple prompts you to connect to Apple Music. In order for you to try the service, the first 3 months of using the service are free.

It should be remembered that this free subscription is auto-renewable, that is, after 3 months you will be charged without warning (you will only receive an invoice by e-mail). As of September 6, 2016, this is 169 rubles per month. To prevent this from happening, you need to disable auto-renewal as described above in the sections: “How to disable / change a subscription in iOS?” or “How do I disable/change a subscription in iTunes?”

Subscribing to newspapers and magazines

In iOS 5, Apple introduced the Kiosk app for the first time. In iOS 9, it was replaced with Apple News. An application that still does not work in Russia. But the appendices of magazines and newspapers remained.

The Apple website has a catalog of all magazines and newspapers, which can be viewed conveniently in the form of lists on a computer in a browser. Or magazines and newspapers can be opened in the App Store in iOS or in iTunes in a special section.

During the WWDC 2017 conference, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that the company has paid app developers a total of $70 billion in a year. One of them, Johnny Lin, was curious about where such a gigantic amount came from.

Johnny Lin, mobile developer

Lin took a look at the top-grossing programs in the digital store and found some rather suspicious ones. They included a subscription that users unknowingly signed up for when they installed the app. For example, one VPN service charged a person about $125 per week.

That is why it is very useful to periodically check your subscriptions.

How to check subscriptions

To find out which apps are sucking money from your card, first go to your iPhone or iPad settings. In the iTunes & App Store tab, find the Apple ID button, click on it, and select View Apple ID.

At the bottom of the account settings page is the Subscriptions section. In it you can find information about all active subscriptions and when they end and renew.

Click on a specific subscription to change its duration or cancel it altogether. You will be able to enjoy all the benefits until it expires.

You can also manage subscriptions from a Mac. Sign in to iTunes and select "View My Account" from the "Account" tab in the menu bar. The account information page will open. Clicking the Account button on the main page of the Mac App Store will open the same page.

Here you can make adjustments to payments and subscriptions. If you are the organizer of a family subscription, you will not be able to manage other people's subscriptions. Only account holders can do this.

How to turn off an iPhone app subscription so that it does not automatically renew? Unsubscribing from iPhone and iTunes.

What is a subscription

Some apps and services provide subscription content. Unlike buying a product, a subscription renews automatically at a certain frequency - usually once a month. Auto-renewable subscriptions include:

  • Apple News.
  • Newspapers magazines.
  • Apple Music.
  • Online services such as Netflix, Spotify, HBO NOW and many apps in the App Store.

If you wish to stop using the service further, you must cancel your subscription. This must be done at least 24 hours before renewal, otherwise the subscription may not be cancelled.

Control on iPhone

First of all, let's deal with disabling on the iPhone. There is nothing complicated: to view the list of subscriptions, just follow these steps:

You can choose a different service/application mode or cancel your subscription. If canceled, it will cease to be valid at the end of the paid period.

If you are charged for a subscription, but it does not appear in the settings, then you have issued it directly from the provider. To cancel, you must contact the publisher or developer of the application.

Denied by iTunes

You can opt out of further services in iTunes. This is the second way that answers the question of how to disable any iPhone subscription for applications.:

You can change the terms of service or opt out of content. The subscription will expire at the end of the paid period.

iCloud and iTunes Match subscriptions

iCloud and iTunes Match subscriptions are not managed according to the standard scenario, although these services are also provided by Apple. If you want to opt out of additional iCloud storage:

  1. Open settings.
  2. Go to the "iCloud" section.
  3. Select "Storage".
  4. Click "Change Storage Plan".
  5. Tap "Reduce volume" or choose a different size.

On a computer, the operation is performed in a similar way, the only difference is the location of the settings. On a Mac, go to System Preferences and click on the iCloud icon, or on Windows, launch the iCloud app and select Storage.

Streaming music service Apple Music was launched in 2015. Access to it is possible from any "apple" device, computers running Windows and mobile devices running Android. The first three months the service is free. By the time the trial subscription expires, the user must make a choice whether to switch to a paid service or refuse to continue using the service. In this article, we will tell you how to unsubscribe from Apple Music at any time and from any device.

Subscription types

To better understand what we are dealing with, let's take a quick look at the possibilities provided by the streaming service of the "apple company". To start using it, you must have a registered Apple ID, a single identifier that allows you to use all the company's services. By subscribing, the user gets full access to the service from the first day, there are no restrictions on the choice and use of musical compositions.

Given the trial period, we can talk about five types of subscription:

  1. Free. It is provided only to new users of the service for a period of three months.
  2. Individual. Your personal music collection, cost - 169₽ per month.
  3. Individual annual, cost - 1690₽.
  4. Family. Access to the music collection for six people, cost - 269₽ per month. All members must have Family Sharing set up in advance to share purchased content.
  5. Student. Personal collection at a reduced price for college or institute students. Valid for up to four years, with a monthly subscription price of 75₽.

I must say that over the time that has elapsed since the launch of the service, the subscription price for Russian users has not changed. At the same time, some countries in 2017 lost their free trial period, which was replaced by a preferential one with a reduced payment.

Now that all the available options and their cost are known, let's figure out how to disable Apple Music. Consider the sequence of actions for all devices on which this service is available.

iPhone or iPad

Mobile devices marked with the apple logo are the most widely used. Therefore, to begin with, let's figure out how to unsubscribe from Apple Music on iOS 9 or 10. Access to the service in these operating systems is carried out from the Music program, and to disable it, we will use it:

  • Select the menu item "For you" marked with a heart logo.
  • A profile sign will appear in the upper right corner of the screen, open it, go to the "View Apple ID" section.
  • Scroll down to Subscriptions and open it.
  • After the list of available use cases, there is an interactive "Unsubscribe" button.

After deactivation, the service will work on your devices until the end of the prepaid period, which is calculated from the date of the subscription on a monthly basis. In the same way, you can unsubscribe from a free Apple Music subscription. As soon as you do this, access to the songs selected during the trial period will be blocked. It is important to remember here that free access is given only once and is not divided into periods. If you turn it on for one day and then turn it off, the trial subscription will be considered fully used.

or Windows

On computers, the streaming service uses iTunes. Let's see how to unsubscribe from an Apple Music subscription using it. Open the "For you" section again and select the "Account Information" item under the profile icon. After confirming the password, the Apple ID details will open. We scroll them to the last section "Settings" and see the item "Subscriptions" in it. Clicking the "Manage" button will open all available options for using the service, including canceling the subscription.

Similar actions can be done from the iTunes "Accounts" menu. Selecting "View" will also take you to your Apple ID user details. How to disable your Apple Music subscription from this page, we just told you.

Apple TV

The fourth-generation Apple TV set-top box is the only one in the entire series of these gadgets that is capable of working with the company's streaming service. Using it, you can also disable your Apple Music subscription. How to do this, we will now consider.

You will need to enter the settings menu of the set-top box and, having selected your account, confirm the entrance to it using a password. After completing these manipulations, you will see the already familiar control menu, where you can disable your Apple Music subscription. As you can see, there is nothing complicated about this, the actions on all the considered devices are almost identical.

Android devices

By opening up the possibility to use their music service on Android devices, the guys from Cupertino made a smart marketing ploy. Some of the users of this operating system will most likely be able to change their addictions and join the army of fans of "apple" products. For those who, having tried the app of the same name, did not find it interesting, there is an option to turn off Apple Music. How to do it on Android, we will now tell.

Enter the menu on the main page of the application to go to your account settings. Here you will need to find the subscription management point and disable auto-renewal in it. After the actions taken, the service will work until the expiration of the monthly period that was previously paid.

iTunes Match

All of the above methods show you how to unsubscribe from Apple Music on various electronic devices. This implies that if you stop using the service, you will not return to it. While only alternatives from other music vendors are available for Android users, Mac and Windows users can also choose another option within the Apple system.

We are talking about iTunes Match, another "apple" product related to music. Its application allows, after following the advice on how to unsubscribe from Apple Music, you can continue to use iCloud as a server for storing your music collection. A feature of his work is the synchronization of songs already on the local computer with the iTunes Store library.

Recordings that are identical to those stored in this music store will be replaced by them, with the appropriate quality. The service has its limitations on the size and number of stored songs, but nevertheless gives the user a fairly good option for alternative use of their music collection. If giving up Apple Music is only about cost, then it's worth considering. An annual subscription will cost you half the price.

Finally

Now you know how to unsubscribe from Apple Music, and following our recommendation, you can perform this operation on any device that can work with this streaming service. However, if at the last moment you change your mind and decide to change your subscription to a more convenient price option, the sequence of actions performed will be similar.
