Marmari beach. Surfing on the spit. Kite Kos.

there is no doubt that Marmari Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches not only on Kos, but in all of Greece, and the availability of quality hotels makes this place attractive for family surfers.

Video tour of Marmari

The beach is located 14 km from the town of Kos and the port of the same name. There is only one way here and it is impossible to get lost. For 5 kilometers - only sand, purest water and wind blowing on the shore.

The coastline here is straight, so you will not find special areas for skiing here, but the presence of a shallow allows training for beginners until the wave catches up. The wave does not catch up every day, so we can safely say that the place is suitable for skiers of any skill level.
If you step aside a little, but on a deserted sandy beach, you can safely learn on a kite under the guidance of certified instructors. The wind blows either from the left to the shore (North West), or exactly to the shore (North). The northwestern one is thermal in nature and blows quite calmly, while the northern one is Meltemi and can be quite angry and strong. On such days, it is uncomfortable for beginners even though we have a small island opposite the marmari, which, in theory, prevents the formation of waves. Particular attention should be paid to the fact that moving to the left on the water, you find yourself in a zone of weaker wind, and moving to the right and further to the island - a stronger one, so using your brains here you can once again not work with changing sails and boards. We did not have the opportunity to check this system in the smallest detail, so please, those who hang out in marmari for at least a week of wind - write your feelings in the forum.

There are several hotels near the surf center and you should not think too much when choosing a place to stay - Grecotel Royal Park and Marmari Beach are very similar in terms of level and price. There are many types of family rooms in Marmari Beach, Grekotel - belongs to the most pretentious chain of hotels, is located across the sandy path from the beach and is closer to the kite spot. Behind Grecotel are clear dunes.

Evening life here is concentrated in the village of Marmari, where there are several restaurants, shops and other attributes of the resort, but you will have to go to the city to light it up. You can get there by bus, by car and along the beach by buggy or quad bike. When checking the third method of transportation, it turned out that the road takes 30 minutes and does not always cause joy for the Germans lying on the beach. The lying Englishmen do not react in any way. You can distinguish the British from the Germans by the presence of the first tattoos and the greenish tint of the skin. The second characteristic was invented not by us, but by our French friend Jan from the Fanatic Center, and it is difficult to vouch for its impartiality.

In the city of Kos you will find everything you need - good shopping, nightclubs and many restaurants. The island remains unpopulated to this day, so there are almost no crowds of tourists here.

Irina: Stas, good day! The other day we returned from the Magic Live club on the spit which. Just super! thanks for recommending this hotel! If you want, I will write a review in more detail. There really surf and training is included in the accommodation. The training is very sensible!))) stas: thank you, Irina, if there is a review, I will be very happy and post it on the site - otherwise everyone doubts (and me too) about equipment, etc. Irina: oh, ok, then I’ll try to write one of these days )) Irina: equipment is different there, there are both for beginners and for intermediate and good skaters Irina: Club Magic Live island Kos 09/14/11 - 09/24/11 I think I will immediately skip the lyrical part about wonderful sunsets, deep blue warm sea, soft white sand ... everyone already knows about this, and I will move on to some specifics, which, I believe, are of interest to many who still I haven't been to this wonderful place. This hotel, and indeed the whole island, is really wonderful! The hotel is not super new and fresh, but clean, cozy and very comfortable. 355 rooms, all 2 storey bungalows. There are 3 swimming pools, a kids club, football and volleyball courts, one of the pools is imprisoned for water polo, and several tennis courts, an excellent animation team and very high quality evening shows. There is a mountain bike and ... I think this question interests everyone first of all - surfing. But first things first. Let's finish with the description of the hotel. The food at the hotel is amazing! Buffet, but to taste - everything is like in an expensive restaurant. Everything is included, really everything! Drinking and non-drinking (not alcohol) are fine too. Languages - German, English. There are Russian-speaking employees, although there are very few of them. Tennis: you can just rent equipment and play it yourself, or you can take a course. Course of 3 levels: teenagers, adult beginners and adults playing. Tuition is included in the cost of living. Those. is free! Mountain biking: you can take a bike for a ride, or you can join a daily formed group and ride a route of a certain difficulty. I didn’t go myself, but the people returning from Kos by 11 am to the hotel (start at 8, 14 km in each direction) looked very pleased. Veliki is also free! The only thing is that you need to sign up for all courses and group events a little in advance, a day in advance. There are step aerobics, aqua aerobics, dancing, stretching - all this is free and is given at a decent level. There are also canoes on the beach. Also a fan, by the way. Also free. Eeeee…let's get to surfing! Equipment: there are all 4 sizes of boards for beginners (barges with daggerboards), there are boards for those already skiing, and different levels : thicker, thinner, longer, shorter, with a different number of keels and loops, and there are boards for “flying on the waves” :))) Those for “flying” are so beautiful separately, hidden in a shed with sails. :)) There are enough sails too. Lots for beginners. For skiers there were ice sails from 4 meters to 7.6 meters. (the biggest one I've seen assembled) There may have been more, but people rode (who skate well) mainly on 6 meters plus or minus. Beach: Sand, soft, smooth, very comfortable. The depth is quite long on the chest, on the neck (I’m 170 tall) You can almost reach the buoys like this :))) When the wind is a strong wave, almost exactly on the shore, the wind blew from the right in the morning (usually quieter) in the afternoon it blew and blew from the left . The muzzle was more or less like from a hair dryer, although the people who sailed further into the sea and jumped on the waves on surfers said that the wind was ragged and constantly changing :))) Courses: There is a training course for beginners at the surf station. Very, very intelligent, I must say. I'm skating for the second season, but I also listened with pleasure. They explain in German and English, very intelligibly and clearly and in detail. There is an excellent simulator on the beach: a board on a rotating platform, a sail is attached to it and go ahead ... train, catch the wind, turn, practice "tricky" turns - very convenient! Course duration is 3 days. Beginning Tuesdays and Fridays at 9:30 am. But even after this period, the instructors readily explain incomprehensible or some new points. If a training course is not needed, then you should simply go to the station instructors and talk to them about the equipment. The rental has everything (not only gloves), including wet shoes and life jackets, without which, by the way, they don’t let you into the water at all, and they do it very correctly, I must say. Literally before our very eyes, a well-skating girl was spun in a wave: the result was a mast broken in half. The instructors pulled her and the dead inventory out of the water, then “talked” her for a long time helping to recover from the shock. They didn't even bat an eyelid at the broken inventory. I tried to make my review short and concise, but it still turned out to be a page and a half. I hope the story about the hotel is useful. We spent time there just magically, absolutely corresponds to the name! And one more thing .. a couple of words, for the entire stay there we rented an ATV, it’s problematic with a car, parking and so on, gasoline 2 euros, again, but they didn’t give us a scooter, because it’s strict there, we need category A rights, agree impossible. A quadric is given according to the rights of category B, because it has 4 wheels! Great thing, especially fun on the sand and mountain country paths! High and drive! Sorry for the long review everyone have a nice rest and magical memories! See you in Kos! AND.

Svetlana, hello! I would like to thank you for Greece. Kos is wonderful! And we were lucky with the wind: they say that for 2 weeks it didn’t blow at all, but as soon as I arrived, the winds began, and what more!!! Mariliza is a wonderful hotel, you can advise everyone, such a small one with a warm family atmosphere, BUT! far from the windsurf spots, the windsurf center that is 300 meters from the hotel is a museum of windsurfing equipment of primitive times)))) I ride with Dominik from Fun 2 Fun, from which a big hello to you and Stas! He says he remembers))) Thank you once again for this vacation! Natalia

We returned from Kos, everything is fine, we liked everything very much. A good Marmari Beach hotel, in my opinion much better than the Grekotel Royal Park, so the choice of the hotel was right. They settled us, however, instead of a 1-bedroom suite in a 2-bedroom apartment, but for us it was even better. And I liked the island, and the wind was 7 days. Everyone is happy. Thanks a lot. Sincerely, Gorshkolepov Igor Olegovich

Stas good afternoon. We went through you in July to Kos. Marmari Grecotel beach. It's great that everything you told us turned out to be true. We rode about 70% of the days of our three-week holiday. A very good family oriented hotel. Great European staff. Lots of Russian speakers. The older sons rode, the younger ones rested. To the kite beach from the door of the room 300 meters. Thanks a lot. The Taradin family.

We went at the end of August 2015 to Grecotel Royal Park 4 *. Right on the hotel beach there is a Fun2Fun kite station. The school is certified. The Swiss work, training in English or German (Russian only Windows). Prices for 2015 kite: Basic course 10 hours: 350 euros Further 75 euros for 2 hours (but not individually - 2 people) Individually 95 euros per hour. From the station to the spot 200 meters. The bottom is flat and sandy. Briefly about the hotel: The beach is across the road (the road is a dead end, no one travels along it), there are enough sunbeds, the food is varied, the rooms are clean (you should not expect much from Greece)

Continued Kos Spot Review So, 11 years after my first exploration of Kos in 2002, I decided to roam the island again in search of change. For me, it was not a special question where to settle, since the length of the island is only 35 km and the width in some places is only 3 km, and I was going to climb it all over. But knowing that the best beaches of the island and perhaps the entire Dodecanese, it was on the eastern part of the island, I settled there, although for the same money I could have taken a more comfortable hotel in Kardamena. The village of Tigaki seduced me by the fact that I had never been there and that it was located on the very seashore. The whole island of Kos is pierced by one main highway - from Kefalos to the capital and port of Kos (about 40 km). Developed bus service. If you go to the city from the airport (which is in the middle of the island), then first you will turn left to mastichari (15 km), then 4 km to Marmari, then another 4 km to Tigaki. All of these villages are located on the coast. In calm weather, the color of the sea here is turquoise. A few kilometers in the sea you can see the island of Kalymnos, to which you can easily swim to the SUP in calm weather, and after having lunch on Kalymnos, return by ferry. Tigaki beach hotel is located directly in the village, a little further - kos palace 4 * if I'm not mistaken. And zorbas 4*. Both are across a small road from the sea. There are also apartments biron and irena hotel. If I were a pure kiter I would only live on this coast. To the left of the main circle of the village and to the right of it there is an excellent even wind, shallows and wide beaches. There is only one kite and windsurfing station, nearby is a salt lake - an airfield for flamingo migration and it is forbidden to conduct water business. On the first day upon arrival, I watched how they teach windsurfing and kite and made sure that the students are comfortable, despite the wave that the downwind is catching up with. But there was no question of being carried away to the open sea. Evening was coming and on the way back to the hotel I saw people at the bus stop and got on the tigakikos bus and in 20 minutes I was in the capital of the island. I remembered my youth, when I did not have extra money for a car for rent, and in two days I traveled all over Kos by bus. With a bottle of white wine, olives and a piece of goat cheese. Having bypassed the braid, I noticed that a small archaeological hole in 2002 turned into a megalith in 2013 - they dug up all sorts of columns, etc. On the second day, in the morning, I took a quad bike and went to the nearby village of Marmari to visit my friends Bit and Dominic, who own competing surf centers. The road there lies past the salt lake and I enjoyed excellent views, examined the stable located here. Continued http://site/news/575

It may be interesting for you for reference: hotel Lakitira, maximum 3 stars, beach across the road, not organized in any way, penny sunbeds, there is nothing on the beach, no bars, no water and TD. The room is tiny, musty, with on-wall air conditioning. The food is quite decent, the service in the restaurant is the same. I rode in 2 spots, in Marmari and Mastahari. Marmari is a very good spot, 3 kilometers of wheelchairs, fun2fun kiteboarding station does not provide any assistance in the morning when there is no one to launch the kite. It is very difficult to land alone in strong winds. Ride 2-3 cards on the entire coast: it will be very difficult for beginners. When will it unfold a good place. But the hotel does not sell sun loungers, as a problem with a shadow, this is important. A hotel that is close to sports: Grecotel, they don’t sell its sunbeds, it’s very convenient: 100 meters to the spot. There are 3-4 more convenient ones, including the five Palazzo del Maro: next time I go there. If you can look for me there a week tour by July-August?

MAGIC LIFE Marina, thank you very much, this is exactly what we were looking for. The hotel is imprisoned for outdoor activities, the boards really give for free, 40 different ones. For beginners and advanced, tennis, mountain bikes, archery and all that. Biblion, in my opinion, sells this hotel for mothers with children, of which there are many. Previously, it was sold only to the Germans, so the service is still on top. The Russians have been here for the first year, but there are already many. It's a pity, we will come in large numbers and the service will fall. Free Internet. The cuisine is varied and rich. Then I'll send pictures.

Rest time: June 2017 [One of my acquaintances, quite a successful businessman, who at the same time is distinguished by extraordinary abilities in terms of the ability to conclude profitable deals, once told me that the main thing is to understand what your partner is most interested in and then take advantage of his sensitive places. Of the many interests, he singled out 3 main human passions: money, women and windsurfing / skiing. Well, then, he continued, everything is simple: you arrange an orgy with girls for your partner or you give a bribe. Well, with windsurfing / skiing, you indulge in conversations with him on relevant topics. You can, of course, shrug your shoulders and say that there are an infinite number of such theories (similar to the three things that you can look at endlessly), but, I repeat, observing the slyness of my acquaintance, I cannot simply brush aside the judgment that windsurfing catches some deep strings of the human soul. I took up windsurfing by accident when I was in Egypt in 1997. The hotel offered equipment, and my friends and I decided to try it. We had no knowledge about this, lessons were also not provided, and the beginning of skating quite expectedly resulted in countless falls. Nevertheless, in a couple of days, through trial and error, we learned to stay on the board and somehow maneuver. Windsurfing hooked me, and subsequent family trips to the sea were invariably accompanied by boarding. At the same time, my wife and children enjoyed a traditional beach holiday, and I sailed for hours. When you slide on the water, you fall into a trance. A kind of meditation in motion. A similar condition, by the way, occurs during long descents on mountain skis. Thoughts either leave, or move smoothly in the head, synchronously sliding on the water board. But this is on calm water and with even wind. Which, as you know, is not always characteristic of the sea element. A strong, gusty wind, a ragged wave, and you find yourself in the water. You get up with difficulty, raise the sail and again fly into the water. At the same time, you were blown away over some cape, you can’t be seen from the shore, it’s useless to wave your arms, and with each fall you have less and less strength. Here the meditation ends and the struggle for survival begins. Well, the emotions are completely different. Some primitive instincts and energies are already turning on and, having reached the shore, you experience feelings, like a person miraculously saved after a shipwreck. But this is my perception of windsurfing. For each person, this is something different: meditation, sports, extreme sports, adrenaline, surf party or lifestyle. In the company of such people, we ended up with our eldest daughter in Dahab in 2008 at the 5 squares station. I must say that skiing in Egypt in July at a temperature of over 40 degrees in the shade is an extraordinary thing in itself. Well, the classes themselves, of course, were different from my hotel windsurfing. Take, for example, a water start, when, due to a strong wind, you are lifted from the water with a sail to the board. Or such a harmless thing called a “catapult”, when you are fastened with a trapezoid, the sail exploded and you are thrown head first either into the water or into the sail lying on the water. It's fast, hard, and once the ejection process has begun, the only thing you can do is grab onto the boom so you don't break your ribs or twist your neck. Daughters, and she was then 19, had a hard time. I still had quite a lot of riding experience and good physical preparation. She had some skills learned from my mentorship during our family vacation trips. She stood on the board and could, at the very least, swim back and forth with a calm sea and even wind. Nevertheless, good skiing conditions and training with a coach did their job. In 10 days, her daughter's progress in mastering windsurfing turned out to be greater than in the previous few years: she mastered the water start, began to ride with a trapeze, and in the last days she began to plan. At the same time, she enjoyed spending the whole day on the board, and in the evening she hung out in the company of surfers. The evenings were spent talking about the "meanings of life" and watching conceptual films. As she recalls now: the wind, sails, music, interesting people, carried away by a common idea, all this inspired and created an atmosphere of freedom and unity. I must say that true surfers are often people who are detached from traditional values. And windsurfing can drastically change a person's life path in this regard. So, for example, our coach was a guy who graduated from the Russian School of Economics, quite successfully made a career in banking, and at the age of 30 got on the board, got carried away, quit his job and settled in Egypt, where he lived for several years. By the way, my daughter found his page in Odnoklassniki. Now he lives in the USA, got married (he was planning a wedding just during our stay in Dahab), has 3 children and, judging by the photographs, is still passionate about windsurfing. However, windsurfing is hardly on the first lines of the causes of downshifting and you can get sick with this disease in a mild form. For example, I managed to get by with just buying a T-shirt with the inscription "SURF EVER, WORK NEVER", without translating this thesis into real life. https://www.otzyv.ru/read.php?id=202295

On the territory of the Atlantica Club Marmari Beach, it is easy to feel like in Venice for a moment: lovely two-story bungalows that have grown along the shores of an artificial lagoon are connected to each other and to the islands by an openwork of romantic bridges. But the facades of buildings shining with novelty, a coquettish line of sprawling palm trees and the velvet sand of a luxurious beach stubbornly declare in a few steps: this is a luxurious “floating garden” of Greece, the island of Kos. Atlantica Club Marmari Beach is located fourteen kilometers from the capital, in the center of the small resort village of Marmari, which is famous for its clean sandy beaches with a gentle entry into the sea and steady winds that cause the constant excitement of windsurfers. The station with the necessary sports equipment is located on the coast, a few steps from the hotel. But to the colorful taverns and the budget supermarket "Konstantinos", where it is easy to buy additional ripe fruits and various tempting local delicacies - a five-minute walk towards the center of the village. From there, a funny tourist train goes on entertaining trips around the neighborhood. Lovers of new experiences just have to choose a direction: the salt lake Tigaki with important and graceful flamingos striding or the village of Pili with the ancient ruins of a Byzantine castle and postcard views of the island. Those who have enough adventures in everyday life cannot be lured away from the territory of Atlantica Club Marmari Beach by kalachi: everything here is thought out and prepared both for an active, eventful vacation, and for contemplative and dreamy doing nothing. The hotel's fitness room and the Marmari Resort Center, a hundred meters from the hotel, are popular with fans of sports and entertainment. But the Evridiki spa attracts those who want to relax on full program a whole range of pleasant rituals and bathing cultures. Among the three spacious outdoor pools of the hotel, it is also easy for vacationers to find a zone of real comfort: if one of them is too noisy and fun from the incessant initiatives of cheerful animators or dizzying pirouettes on water slides, then you can always choose another one - quieter and calmer, with a hospitable pool. bar at the water's edge. Evening shows and lively parties with live music and culinary collective feasts are easy to change for a romantic dinner in the lounge of the hotel's Greek tavern overlooking the sea or the original atmosphere of an Italian a la carte restaurant. The main concern for the nutrition of guests, in addition to numerous bars in the lobby, by the pools and on the beach, is taken over by the main restaurant Atlantica Club Marmari Beach: breakfasts, lunches and dinners on an all-inclusive basis are served in its spacious and modern hall buffet principle. The resort complex itself consists of a main building and a group of two-story bungalows with three hundred and eleven rooms of different categories: from standard doubles with an area of thirty square meters, and two-room family suites to elegant and spacious Family Suites for one or two bedrooms, the maximum capacity of which is six people. Flat screen TVs echo the modern sophistication of interior rooms. Mini-refrigerators, air conditioners and telephones with access to international lines provide the necessary comfort in the premises, and additionally paid safes take care of the safety of valuables. All bathrooms are equipped with hair dryers. Panoramic windows that open breathtaking views of the sea and the park surrounding the hotel promise a heavenly vacation just a couple of meters from the doorstep. A little more - and dreams of a resort fairy tale with a bright Greek flavor become a real true story.
