Color replacement

Team Replace Color creates a temporary mask around the specified colors and then replaces them with other colors. The principle of the team is in many ways similar to the team Color Range. Let's see how this command works with an example. Open the graphic file (Fig. 3.29).

Rice. 3.29. original image

Choose a team Image | Adjustments | Replace Color. In the window that appears as a result of executing the command, set the switch selection to see the mask in the preview window. Check box Preview ( Preview) to see how the color setting will affect the image. Tool Pipette click on the darkest part of the background. Part of the background is highlighted. Good day, dear readers of my blog. Today we are talking again about Photoshop and its tools. Not many people know that hiding among them is the Color Replacement brush. Nevertheless, thanks to it, you can very cool change the color of any object in the photo.

I already wrote about that, but if you use the tips from that article, you can quickly get rid of a certain shade from an entire photo.

Today we will talk about the Color Replacement tool in Photoshop. I'll show you how to work with certain objects. Change, for example, not all the red in the picture, but only the hair. You don't have to bother with any masks. Everything will be very easy and simple. A couple of moves and you're done.

Well, shall we begin?

Color Replacement Tool

How does Color Change work? It recolors pixels from one color to another. And although this method cannot be called super-professional, darker and lighter areas and highlights remain so even when repainted.

The method is very easy to use and is ideal for solving simple tasks of changing colors and shades in Photoshop.

This tool "hides" on the same button as the other brushes. Hold down the button for a few seconds left button mouse and additional tools open.

You can control the size of the brush using brackets ( and ) ("X" and "b" on the keyboard). In this, the brush does not differ from the rest of its "brothers".

How does a brush work? You move the arrow and everything that falls within the diameter of the brush changes its color to the one you need. Putting it out is very easy. It's active. To replace it, just click on the plate with the foreground color, select a shade and click OK.

Look, I took the black color and moved it over the girl's head. Her hair has changed, while all shades are preserved. They do not look like a dark spot.

Instrument settings

If you zoom in on the image, you will see that the color has "drifted" onto the girl's body. One of the brush options is Tolerance. It defines how different the color can be from the samples. By default, this figure is 30%. If I set it to 90, then I will hit the girl’s forehead and eyes a lot, and if I set it to 1, then I won’t paint over anything.

There is another interesting setting here - the mode. If you try to change something now, it will seem to you that the option does not work. The thing is that you first need to set the settings, and then work with the brush.

See, in the picture below, I tried all 4 modes. 1 is hue, 2 is saturation, 3 is chroma (this is the default), and 4 is brightness. You already know how to use them, but what is each of them?

If the colors in the photo are not too saturated, and the changes are not serious, then it is best to apply the “Color tone”. In this case, you will only change the hue, and the saturation and brightness of the original color will not change. The hand looks dull blue.

If you need to slightly reduce the intensity or even completely remove the color, then it is better to use the "Saturation" mode. It will not affect either the hue or its brightness. Bottom part hands have not changed much. The color only hints that the hand is bluish.

"Chroma" will change both the hue and its saturation, but the brightness will remain unchanged. The girl's face became like an Avatar's.

"Brightness" will not change the hue and saturation, but its brightness, of course, will be completely different. You see, in my case, the girl's hand became almost white.

Another interesting setting, "Restrictions". Of the three available options in life, as a rule, only two are used: Adjacent and all pixels. The settings determine the location of the points you are going to change.

In the "Adjacent pixels" mode, only those points that are adjacent to the center of the cursor and do not differ from them in color change. This allows you to make changes more accurately, taking into account contrasting borders. If a color of a completely different shade suddenly falls into the diameter of the brush, then it will not change.

If you set the "All pixels" mode, then the photo will be "smeared" evenly, without taking into account the difference in shades.

OK it's all over Now. The tool, in principle, is not complicated. To make a real masterpiece, you will have to dig deeper, but changing parts of the object will not be so difficult. If you need to turn a large photo into a spectacular miniature, then better tool just can't be found.

If you care about how to make the quality of your work more impressive, then I probably still recommend that you look deeper into Photoshop. Get to know him better. The course will help you with this Photoshop from scratch in video format ».

Hello dear readers. Replacing colors in a picture is quite an interesting and addictive activity. Personally, I can spend quite a lot of time on this entertainment. There are several tools that will help in this work, and each of them is suitable for its case.

Today I will tell you how to change the color of an image in Photoshop and how to use it in each specific case. You will like it, I assure you.

It should be noted that I use Photoshop CC, but we will not do anything specific, so feel free to start reading even if you have more simple version this program. Not online service, of course, it is weak and non-functional, but in cases with CS3, 5 or 6 you will not notice discrepancies.

Shall we start?

Simple color correction

The equipment for high-quality shooting is quite expensive, and it does not matter if you do not have it. You can get good pictures with the help of editor programs such as Photoshop. To be honest, I use this opportunity for almost every photo that I post on my blog. I like the colors brighter than what is usually posted on the Internet.

By the way, if you are interested, read the article already published in Start-Luck. I will take a pre-prepared picture to start a story about a simple color correction and move on to work.

I open the tab in the top menu "Image", and then the category "Correction". Take the time to learn from your own experience what Brightness/Contrast, Vibrance, Hue/Saturation and other options you will find in this tab are.

You won't spoil or break anything, and you can always return to the original version by simply refusing to save changes when you close the picture. Just look at how certain tools behave. As they say, what you reach yourself is always remembered better than when everything is explained to you on the fingers.

For example, open the "Color tone" and pull the various sliders, you will immediately see how the picture changes colors and you can build a logical chain between your actions and the result. Don't forget to check the box next to View.

The color balance changes colors more strongly, the setting is more subtle and interesting.

If you want to work with a certain element, that's enough, I have more than once simple and plain language talked about how to do it with more than 8 tools and ways. I will not repeat myself, it is not difficult to find a publication, just follow the link a little higher.

Now I will use the easiest way - the "Magic Wand". I just click on the object and the desired fragment is selected. Using the tolerance setting, I set the color spread.

As you know, there are many shades of white, blue and any other color. The higher the tolerance number, the more shades from the spectrum the program will determine and highlight with a stick.

Change the direction of the curve and the color becomes different.

By the way, if you want to work with the background in this way, that is, with the area that is outside the selection, then you need to first select it, and then in the "Selection" tab top menu select "Invert".

Running ants are removed using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + D.

Replacement for contrast

I talked about this method in great detail in the article. « » . Now we will quickly run through the main functions. I will give a little instruction, which will be enough.

This tool is ideal for replacing a bright, eye-catching color in an image. For example, a yellow apple on a white background, a red car in a green forest, or, as it is now, a bright girl in a dark room.

I return to the "Correction" section and select the "Color Replacement" tool here. Using the eyedropper tool, which appears automatically, I select the shade that should change. In this case, I click on the curtain. Then I move the Scatter slider so that the girl becomes almost black, and all other objects have outlines ( I wrote a whole article about how to draw a black background).

Please note that the curtain and the wall should still have outlines, just setting the spread to 200 will not work. Otherwise, the program will not take into account the shades and paint over everything ugly, with a single color. Now I click on the plate with the color at the very bottom of the window, under it is written "Result".

I click on the spectrum and various shades until I achieve the perfect result.

Ready. Without repainting the photo, we got an excellent result. In just a few seconds. Now let's talk a little about the disadvantages. As I said above, it is convenient to use this method if the image is contrasty. To recolor the dress of a particular girl in a different shade, it will have to be selected. I can offer another interesting one, in which much attention is paid to complex objects, for example, hair.

I myself will use the tool "Magnetic Lasso".

Now I transfer the dress to a new layer by pressing Ctrl + J at the same time. ? Read the publication with a detailed story about them, which I recently prepared for beginners.

We return to the “Color Replacement” of the “Correction” section. In this case, the hue will have to be changed using the "Hue", "Saturation", "Brightness" sliders. If I click on the “Result” box, it turns out to be extremely disgusting and implausible.

In my opinion, the shade of the young lady's dress is still far from ideal, and therefore I want to blur it a little. I open the "Filter" tab and select everyone's favorite "Gaussian Blur".

The attire has become less clear, but the shade has somewhat evened out.

As I said, this method works best if there are contrasts, so I'll be satisfied with that, and I'll tell you about the last tool for today.

A quick tool for difficult cases and dramatic changes

I like the Color Replacement brush more than any other tool for a similar task. You can find out about it in the article « » in which I turn the most ordinary girl into a red-haired blue-skinned female smurf.

Finding a brush is not difficult, all you have to do is click right click mouse on a regular brush. An additional menu will open in which you can select the desired tool.

I choose a color. Everything is as usual. Window on the right. In this case, black, and then I paint over part of the girl's hair. Note that all shades are preserved.

You can put green.

Use the keys to change the size of the brush.

I can also offer an instructional video on this topic.

Well, if you want to understand the program more professionally and understand exactly how this or that function in the Photoshop program works, then I offer a very useful course " Photoshop for beginners in video format ».

Maximum useful information about the tools. That's basically it. Don't forget to subscribe to our newsletter to stay up to date with the latest, most useful and simple information.

See you again and good luck.

Good day to all! Today we will learn how to change the color of an object. Sometimes it becomes necessary to replace the color of clothes in the photo to highlight some details. This is a very useful skill that will be very useful to you, since replacing colors on an object allows you to refresh your work, to give it originality. Everything is simple and today in the issue there will be different examples.

If suddenly you decide to tune your car in real life, and you don’t know which color is better to choose, then you can try Photoshop here to start. Repainting for real is expensive, but on a computer - that's it. You can see the result and make the right decision.

There are several ways to change the color of an object. We will consider them. The first way is to use the built-in color change, or color replacement. Let's get to know him first. As usual, load the image, make a duplicate of the layer. Next, open the top menu "Image" - "Correction" - "Replace Color".

A window will open in front of us, in which you need to select the color to be replaced and the color that will be in its place.

Let's start by checking the box (if not checked) for localized color sets in the first line. These are the standard colors available in the program. Next, select the color to change, for example, the red color of the insect. Click on the pipette (the first of the three icons) and click on the body of the insect in the square window below with the pipette.

At the same time, the replaced shade will appear in the box with the name of the color. Notice the next line is "scatter. You can set it to "maximum". The larger this setting, the more colors it will capture. The lower part of the window shows the options for replacing the color.

You can use the slider, moving it from right to left, choosing a color, or you can immediately click on the colored square and in the color selection window that appears, set the desired one, for example, blue. Next, use the sliders to adjust the saturation of this color and brightness. Having done all this, click OK and get the result:

The ladybug went from red to blue. The second color change option is a bit similar to the first, but the operations are carried out differently. You can call this procedure selection by color. Earlier we talked about tuning cars, so let's take a car as an example. Load the image and go again to the top menu "Selection" - "Color Range".

A window will open in front of us, a little similar to the previous one. We also set the scatter to the maximum, and with the “Pipette” click on the red color of the car. In the viewport, it turned white.

Having done all the necessary operations, click OK and, as a result, we get a picture of the car, on which the red color is highlighted with a dashed flickering line. We have achieved that only the necessary sections of the drawing certain color we have stood out. And we did not resort to classic selection tools like Lasso and others.

Now go Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation.

The settings window will open. In the line "Toning" put a tick. Next, select the desired color tone with the slider. My version is green. Adjust the brightness and saturation as you like.

When you reach the desired option, click OK. After that, remove the selection and get the result. The car went from red to green. If this color does not suit you, we do the same step by step, but choose a different color.

These are such simple operations, and the result is impressive. Fast and accurate. You just got an idea about computer color matching. If you still know the computer code of car paint, you can try to select real colors.

Change object color to white

In this example, we recolor the object white. Let's take for example the same red car and repaint it white. Let's start with layers - a new adjustment layer - black and white.

As a result, a new layer will appear and its adjustment window will open.

Here we move the sliders, especially the top red, because the car was red, until we get the desired result.

How do I change the color of an object in Photoshop?

You can also change the color of an object by creating a template or swatch of the desired color. We create a new window in the program, in which we paint the background in the desired color, for example, blue.

Next, we move on to the picture that needs to be recolored. Here we select the selection - the color range. Now with an eyedropper, click on the color to be changed. With a pipette with a + sign, add selection points and click OK. If, as a result, not only the desired object, but also neighboring areas were selected, we do it as follows.

Select the lasso tool, and from the top menu use the buttons add to selection and subtract from selection.

Using the lasso tool, draw around unnecessary areas (with the subtract from the selected area button activated). As a result, unnecessary areas will be removed.

Having thus performed the necessary manipulations, we will obtain the desired selection, namely, a clearly red car.

We go in the image - correction - choose a color.

A window will open in front of us.

Here, first of all, open the source drop-down menu and select the image with the created blue color in it. She will appear in the window nearby.

At the same time, the color of the car will also change. Now by moving the sliders Luminosity, Color Intensity and Attenuate we find the desired color option

After you get the desired result, click OK, remove the selection. The picture has changed color. Well, for clarity, a short video in which, using the Eyedropper and Gradient tools, the sky above the head of a girl on the beach is repainted.

Replacing the color of an object with the eyedropper tool

Above, we talked about how to change the color according to the sample. In the described version, the created Photoshop document template was used. However, you can choose the color to change in the edited picture itself. To do this, there is a pipette tool, which is located on the toolbar (sixth from the top).

If you need to create a color scheme that will be the same as that of the image, then the eyedropper is just for that. Having selected an eyedropper, you need to click on the desired color and it will immediately appear in the box for choosing the main color. If you do not click the mouse button, but keep it pressed, we will see that a sample ring has formed around the pipette.

If you move the cursor with an eyedropper over the picture, we will see how the color changes on the ring. The upper part shows the selected color, and the lower part shows the one that was originally. So, these are the actions with the eyedropper tool. Now, how to use it to change the color of an object. To do this, you will need to perform a number of operations. The first is to select the part of the image whose color needs to be changed. For example, in a photo with a red car, you need to repaint the side mirror in one of the color schemes of the entire picture. For example, take the black color of the bumper.

Select the quick selection tool or any other tool that is more convenient for you and select the area. Since the object in the example is not complex, I used a magnetic lasso.

Now select the eyedropper tool, click on the black color of the bumper and see that the desired one has appeared in the square of the main color.

The result, of course, is not the same as in the options described earlier, but if you work on correcting the resulting image, you can achieve more realistic results.

Good luck with the program!
