Russia and Ukraine to launch Israeli satellite Amos

In late 2012 - early 2013, the Zenit-3SLB rocket of Ukrainian-Russian production will launch the Israeli telecommunications satellite Amos-4 into low-Earth orbit. This was reported to the GolosUA correspondent in Moscow by the press service of the Federal Space Agency of Russia.

Services for launching civilian satellites into orbit using Zenit-2SLB and Zenit-3SLB rockets from the Baikonur Cosmodrome on a commercial basis within the framework of the Ground Launch project are provided by the Russian-Ukrainian joint venture International Space Services. Rockets for launches are manufactured by Russian and Ukrainian enterprises on a cooperative basis. The company began its activity in 1999, and since that time four launches have been carried out to launch civilian satellites into low Earth orbit. All are successful.

In addition to the launch of the Israeli satellite, the plans include the launch of the telecommunications satellite Amos-5, which will fly in tandem with the Russian Luch-5A repeater satellite.

The latest Israeli communications satellite Amos-4
is preparing for a trip to Baikonur to be sent into orbit

TEL AVIV, September 6th. /ITAR-TASS/. The newest Israeli communications satellite Amos-4 is currently undergoing the last stage of assembly and pre-flight checks and will soon go to Baikonur to be sent into orbit. The engineers of the IAI concern told about the preparation of the spacecraft and its tasks to the members of the parliamentary subcommittee on space research, chaired by Zeev Elkin, who visited the enterprise.

According to Israeli media, at a meeting of parliamentarians with the leadership of the concern, the schedule of work and financing of the Amos-4 project, as well as promising developments that will be implemented in the new Amos-6 satellite, the creation of which begins these days, were discussed.

Elkin, chairman of the subcommittee, who is familiar with the situation in the Israeli space industry and its problems, said that he had no doubts that the development would continue successfully. “Today we are seeing the first fruits of our joint efforts to save the Israeli space industry. We managed to convince the relevant government agencies of the need for immediate intervention, funding was attracted, despite bureaucratic obstacles. And, most importantly, research has not been stopped, and work on the creation of satellites has not I, together with my fellow deputies, will continue to fight for the space industry to once again become one of the locomotives of the Israeli economy," Elkin said.

The Amos-4 satellite, which will be launched into space next year, is equipped with the latest equipment to support high-speed Internet channels, high-definition TV broadcasts / HDTV / and ultra high definition/UHDTV/, as well as numerous channels of communication and information transfer. The countries of the Middle East region, as well as all of Europe, India and Southeast Asia, many countries of Africa and part of the territory of Russia will be in its coverage zone.

In the coming months, the space complex will undergo a series of tests at a research center in Germany, and then go to Baikonur.

Two Zenit missiles will be returned from Baikonur for revision

Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). April 12th. INTERFAX.RU - Two Zenit launch vehicles sent to the Baikonur Cosmodrome will be returned to the Yuzhmash manufacturing plant (Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine) for revision based on the results of an investigation into the unsuccessful launch of this type of rocket under the Sea Launch program on February 1, said " Interfax-AVN" Alexander Kushnarev, First Deputy General Designer-General Director of Yuzhnoye Design Bureau for Systems Engineering.

"Earlier, two rockets were sent to Baikonur. They will be returned to carry out activities developed as a result of an investigation into the causes of the February emergency launch. After that, the rockets will be returned to the cosmodrome again to prepare for the next launches," he said at a meeting in Rio de Janeiro international arms exhibition LAAD 2013.

He recalled that one of these rockets is intended for the commercial launch of the Israeli spacecraft AMOS 4.

A very famous satellite in our and neighboring countries. AMO S is a whole complex of satellites that provides communications to Africa, Europe and the east coast of America. Yes, it is the complex in orbit that simultaneously broadcasts several satellites.

Today we will talk about the Israeli complex of satellites AMOS

Verbatim AMOS– Afro-Mediterranean Orbital System. Abbreviation from the first letters, translated Afro-Mediterranean Orbital System.

There are several satellites in one geostationary orbit, and this is not a secret.

So in orbit 4.0°W, which is very interesting for us (many of our channels broadcast), they work simultaneously AMOS 2 and AMOS 3.

A bit of history

The story begins in 1996 with the launch of Israel's first communications satellite AMOS 1 to provide broadcasts to the Middle East. All expenses were carried out by a private Israeli company Spacecom. All satellites AMOS are the property of Spacecom.

During operation, it turned out that the satellite's capacity would be enough for broadcasts in Europe.

AMOS 1

From the name itself it is clear that he is the first. Served in orbit for 10 years. decommissioned. Still in orbit.

AMOS 2

The term of work is 12 years. It was launched on December 28, 2003 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome. Covers the Middle East, Europe and the East Coast of the United States. It is currently at an orbital position of 4.0°W.

AMOS 3

It was also launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome on April 28, 2008. It shines on Africa, the Middle East in the KU range from an orbital position of 4.0°W. The plans were to replace AMOS 1.

The launch was made on August 31, 2013 from the Baikonur cosmodrome. A very expensive satellite is at position 65°E. And it provides communications, in particular broadband Internet access, to the countries of the Middle East and Russia. It has 8 Ku-band transponders and 4 Ka-band transponders on board.

AMOS 5

Launched December 11, 2011 also from Baikonur. It provides broadcasting in Africa mainly in the C band (18 transponders). It is planned to operate for 15 years. It is currently at orbital position 17°E.

Amos 7/3 is a combination of 2 Israeli communications satellites located at 4 degrees west longitude, owned by Spacecom. Broadcasting extends to the Middle East, including Israel, Europe, the US East Coast. Main part open programs- these are Ukrainian channels FREE TV, that is, viewing is possible without paying a subscription fee. There is an insignificant part of Russian, Israeli transmissions on the satellite. Hungarian television can be distinguished from paid packages T Home, cards for which are purchased in Hungary. Previously, Amos 1 was in this position, but was replaced due to the expiration of its service life.

Installation and tuning of antennas on Amos 7/3

To receive channels in Moscow and the Moscow region, you will need to install an antenna 0.9-1.4m. With a 90cm plate, it is possible to sprinkle pictures during worsening weather conditions - snowfalls, rains, heavy clouds. Antenna 1.2m -1.4m will provide a margin for reception, which will avoid signal disruptions in bad weather. If the system is connected from a window or balcony, the windows must face west. When there is no signal, the dish is mounted on the roof of a building, a country house. In this case, additional costs for the cable and its laying are added.

Programs can be viewed on a steel or aluminum plate. The most inexpensive antenna options are steel, but they are quite heavy and quickly rust. Aluminum - better and more reliable, but more expensive. Satellite channels are transmitted in both MPEG2 and MPEG4 formats; a high-definition satellite set-top box is suitable for viewing them.

Amos is often tuned in combination with Hotbird and Astra 4A (Sirius), thereby adding Ukrainian, Russian, foreign channels. This variation is possible due to the proximity of the satellites to each other.

Amos 7, 3 satellite keys (BISS encoding)

Keys to channels can be driven into the set-top box with an emulator of satellite keys - GI, Openbox receivers.

The Spektr TV company is not responsible for changing the broadcasting parameters and the list of channels from the Amos 7/3 satellite.

Installation satellite dish and setting up a satellite dish for 3 satellites
Amos 4.0W
Astra 4A 4.8E
hot bird 13.0E

Installing one antenna and configuring it to receive channels from three satellites at the same time is the best solution, saving money and space.

Allows you to take more than 100 Russian and Ukrainian free channel, as well as Italian, Polish and other channels.

To install an antenna on 3 satellites, we need:

1 satellite dish
3 converters (heads)
2 side mounts for converters (multifeeds)
1 diseqc switch
1 satellite receiver

as well as wire, f-connectors, tools...

Scheme of the location of the converters (heads).

As you can see, the central head of the antenna is directed to the Astra 4A satellite (formerly Sirius), it is attached directly to the antenna.

Assembling the antenna, connecting the cable to the converter and switch.

CABLE CONNECTION MUST BE MADE WITH THE RECEIVER OFF.
Shorting the cable may damage the receiver.

We attach two heads with the help of multifeeds in an approximate position (as in the picture).

We fasten the head which will receive Amos to the left of the central head(when viewed from the back of the antenna) at about 7 cm and a little higher, then on the right is the head that will receive Hot Bird it will be about 3 centimeters from the central head and a little lower.

Diseqc-switch.

We connect the cables from the heads to the diseqc switch. We write down which port of the switch (ports are numbered), each satellite corresponds. For example, we will connect a converter that receives a signal from the Amos satellite to the first port, Sirius - to the third, Hot Bird - to the fourth.

amos 1/4
Sirius 3/4
hot bird 4/4

Receiver setup.

Now we need to configure the receiver according to our configuration. Since we could use a different number of heads and switches in the receiver settings, this data is not pre-set. We need to indicate that we are using one switch with four inputs, more precisely, we need to indicate which switch inputs the heads are connected to.

We go into the menu - press "MENU" on the remote control. Depending on the model of the receiver, there may not be fundamental differences in the menu structure. We recommend using an already tuned satellite receiver. We go to the "MENU" - "SETUP", select the satellites in turn and set the parameter "DiSEqC

amos 1/4

Sirius 3/4

hot bird 4/4

Signal search and antenna direction.

We adjust the central head to the Astra 4A satellite.

When the antenna is installed, the cables are connected, the receiver is turned on - we turn the antenna and find the satellite signals.
To make it easier for ourselves, we need to predetermine the angle of elevation satellite dish and angle of rotation.

On the website http://www.dishpointer.com/ you can find out the direction of the antenna and your geographical coordinates. You just need to enter the country, city, street, house and select the satellite of interest. We select 4.8E SIRIUS 4. We see the direction on the map, under the map you can find the coordinates of the area and the angle of elevation of the antenna.

So first we need to tune the antenna to the satellite Astra 4A (former Sirius) - central head.
In the receiver menu, go to the Astra satellite or turn on one of the channels on the Astra satellite, for example, "Rada" or "2 + 2".

You should see two scales: the first shows the signal level, and the second shows its quality.

Antennas are tuned according to the lower “quality” scale. We slowly turn the antenna to the right to the left, if the signal cannot be found, we change the antenna tilt angle a little and repeat the turns again. The signal level should be about 70. We fix the antenna firmly. Half of the work is done!

Repeat the operation with the left head (Amos). We tune, for example, to the channel "1 + 1" or " New channel". Now we do not have the ability to move the antenna, we change the position of the head using the multifeed mounts. We strive to ensure that the signal quality is more than 70.

At the final stage, we set up Hot Bird (right head). You can tune to the channels "1TVRUS", "RTR" ... The signal quality on this satellite can be adjusted to more than 70. When the adjustment by the mount has brought the maximum result, we turn the converter around its axis and achieve the maximum signal from this satellite.
