Power amplifier for 3 channels, power 3 x 180 W (8 Ohm), class G, frequency range 20 Hz - 20 kHz, inputs: 3 RCA, 3 XLR, 12 speaker terminals, dimensions 433x171x425 mm, weight 18 kg.

The Arcam FMJ P349 3-channel power amplifier embodies the best technology developed by Arcam over 40 years of existence. As the developers assure, this powerhouse uses the highest quality elements and the most effective engineering developments.

The circuit design of the model corresponds to class G, which has advantages over the common class AB in terms of more rational power distribution. At powers up to 50 W, the model operates in the class A preferred for Hi-Fi with a negligible amount of distortion, and then goes to the G-class.

A large toroidal transformer is installed in the Arcam FMJ P349 PSU. The driver perfectly controls any speakers and delivers 180 watts to each of the three channels into an 8 ohm load. When it works in 2-channel mode with a similar load, this figure rises to 200 W, and in single-channel mode - up to 220 W. Fast transistors with a minimum noise level are installed in the output stage. The harmonic coefficient at 80% power and 8 ohms is only 0.001%, and at lower volume levels it is a millionth of a percent.

The model has an all-metal chassis with excellent acoustic damping. There is a ventilation slot at the bottom of the front panel of the assistant. The power button and the switch to standby mode are located at the bottom right, as evidenced by the LED located in the upper right corner. There are also two buttons (SP1 and SP2) on the front with LED indicators for signaling the corresponding speakers. When biwiring, both buttons must be enabled.

There are three balanced XLR input jacks on the rear panel, which are duplicated by the same number of RCA jacks. A slide switch is used to select between balanced and unbalanced connections. There are 3 RCA outputs (copy the signal received from unbalanced inputs), as well as two trigger sockets (input and output). Speakers are connected by three terminal blocks (four screw terminals in each block), with which you can organize a two-wire connection for each of the three channels.

The Arcam FMJ P349 driver delivers realistic, powerful yet detailed sound with impressive fidelity, dynamics, deep bass and big stage. The model will be an excellent option for both a stereo system and a multi-channel installation. For full amplification in a home theater system, Arcam recommends using this power amplifier and a P49 2-channel driver.

BLUE INSULATION

Hardly anyone paid attention: the fighters in the "hot spots" (unlike the cops in the "cold ones") always have two horns wound into the machine, wound with blue insulating tape.

And they asked themselves the question: if it’s better this way (well, it’s clear what’s better: shot the horn, turned it over, inserted it - and hold on, international terrorists, damn it!), Then why doesn’t the Izhevsk (or Shanghai) plant do it right away, without blue insulation ? We have no ready answer. As there is no answer to another question. As you know, the most common (and most useful) scheme of a car audio installation is the front, where stereophony rages, and a lone subwoofer that works properly in a narrow frequency band, without pretending to the volume and perspective of the sound stage. It is also known that most often a four-channel amplifier is used to amplify the signal in such a system, two channels of which, reserved for the subwoofer, turn into one. Time after time they turn, and no one wraps them with blue insulation to each other. Here are some hooked up. A model has appeared in the line of the most affordable Audison SRx amplifiers, where there are three channels from birth, and not after installation in the system.

The Audison SRx 3 amplifier has long been known by the standards of our industry. In 2003, he became an EISA laureate, so sales began a few months before that, somewhere towards the end of 2002. You can, if not too lazy, find on our website No. 9 for 2003, where regalia from EISA are distributed. Corporate blue color, Italian layout (and what else?), when all the settings and connections are displayed on one long side of the case. Let me, let me, what is it then? Where did the blue go? Where is the famous blue insulation, I ask you? Lost in history...

What is in front of you is partly named SRx 3.1. It was not by chance that I said “partially”: both designations seem to have equal rights. The package says “SRx 3”, but there is a sticker on the side that says “SRx 3.1”, a nameplate on the body of the device says “SRx 3” in shiny letters, and the sticker modestly informs that the model is called SRx 3.1.

Personally, I don't really like the modernized index: in multimedia technology, the dot has a special role, it separates the content channels from the bass one (only no offense from the bass one). The designation 3.1, by analogy with 5.1, evokes associations with home theater amplifiers. For examples, you won’t even have to leave the gates of the company, except to move from one production, where SRx amplifiers are assembled, to another, where amplifiers from older lines are born. Remember the LRx 3.1 MT amplifier (#7 this year)? Here it is definitely theatrical, and it has three "satellite" channels and a subwoofer channel. And in SRx 3 channels there are only three, exactly as many as most people need. However, you should not be afraid of confusion: historically, the first SRx can now be bought only by advertisement.

Amplifiers from the new series still have die-cast cases, but they are painted in gray, which in general and on average fits better into the interior. A passivated aluminum cover covers all inputs/outputs, as well as access to adjustments. The cover is easy to remove and makes connection and setup especially convenient. But it would probably be more reliable if the lid had to be not only hinged, but something had to be unscrewed before that.

The fuse rating of the SRx 3 is 40 A, which is a lot, but not very much for an amplifier with a subwoofer channel. And here, probably, you can already reveal the secret: the subwoofer channel amplifier is built according to the class D circuit, so even with serious power, its consumption will be reduced. Actually, this is the second side of a conscious attitude to the issue of “channel”: since the front + subwoofer, you can AB + D. We haven’t seen four-channels with two ordinary and two impulse channels, and “bridge” class D is not quite trivial undertaking.

All three channels are designed to operate with a minimum load of 2 ohms. The power clamps are ready to accept cables up to 7 mm in diameter. Spade-type output clamps - they deform the relatively thin speaker cable less, which means that they provide higher durability in vibration conditions. They can theoretically accept a cable up to 16 squares (such is the cross section of the input window). In particular, the sub is connected without problems with 10 AWG wire. The subwoofer channel has two pairs of outputs and two input jacks for easy switching.

There are high level inputs. The amplifier can work with both four and two inputs. In the second case, the Sub input jacks become line outputs. This approach allows you to divert the signal, say, to the rear acoustic amplifier, if the head unit has only one pair of outputs (or if high-level inputs work). You can connect a remote volume control for the subwoofer channel (if you take care of purchasing it in advance). Interestingly implemented boost. It seems to be stepped, but the steps are very humane: +2 and +4 dB. Switchable filters: high-pass filter in the Front channels and low-pass filter in the Sub channel (24 dB/oct.). The cutoff frequency tuning range is the same: from 50 to 220 Hz.

For listening, we have prepared a set of acoustics, consisting of Monitor Audio Gold 20 home speakers, known for their neutral sound and decent dynamics of material delivery, and a car subwoofer - a 300 mm head and a closed box. Why WL, I hope, is clear: subwoofers in a box with a phase inverter, as a rule, have worse transient characteristics. The sound material is partly traditional:

1. Silence Technology Test Disc. Audio Div., Matsushita, 1990.

2. Pink Floyd, The Dark Side of the Moon. Capitol, 2003.

3. Alan Parsons, "Telarc Sampler". Telarc, 1997.

4. Celentano, "Arrivano Gli Uomini", Clan, 1991, RTI12022.

5. Japanese Drums (title in Japanese), Victor, 2005, VZCG-526.

... The subwoofer is already brought into the listening room, but let it stand aside for now, let's deal with more subtle things. Front channels in the entire band. We put the disk, of course, "Money", for express analysis, that's it. The overall dynamics, I must say, are well balanced. Bass control, however, is not one hundred percent, but no one promised it. The solo sax on the loudest passages blurs into a "blot". Acoustic guitar Celentano lacks a jerk. In the drum solo, the kick is controlled by the amp and is far from perfect, but the drums sound distinct. The fireworks recording (track 13, ), the attack of the breaks mostly passes until they get too fast, the amp dynamics are lacking here.

We connect the subwoofer ... (Behind the ellipsis is not a fast, but not too interesting tuning process. The final cutoff frequency is about 70 Hz for the subwoofer and 75 Hz for the fronts.) With the advent of the subwoofer, the picture has changed very noticeably. The Sub channel does whatever it wants with the bass speaker. True, as it turned out, the subwoofer itself is prone to buzzing, the amplifier can only exacerbate this effect, but not correct it. This amplifier does not aggravate. A click appeared in the sound of the “barrel”, which was noticeably lacking without a subwoofer. The fronts, freed from the bass load, increased the dynamics. Adriano's acoustic guitar sounded more lively, more passionate. The snare drums have acquired some excess "punch", but this can already be dealt with with the help of cables, we had an acoustic one that was very fast.

The power of the subwoofer channel is quite decent for a general-purpose amplifier, and for those who do not have enough of this, there is a solution from a monoblock and a two-channel amplifier, for other money, of course. The noise level and harmonic distortion are typical for D-class amplifiers, although it was thought that it was Audison who would open new horizons in this direction. The input adder is designed in such a way that when a signal is applied to one or two inputs, the output level changes by only 1 dB, so that the sensitivity does not change much. And one more observation. When an oscilloscope and a voltmeter were connected to the output of the Sub channel, and when the current consumption reached a value of 4 A, the protection system was triggered. Here it should be noted that the output of the D-class amplifier is a high-frequency PWM signal, different from that consumed by the load. Therefore, the protection circuit has to calculate a dangerous situation by indirect signs, and therefore, by the way, the protection system in such amplifiers does not always have time to work in critical situations. This one succeeds. But, as you can see, she is too cautious, and, in particular, what she did not like about our oscilloscope, one can only guess.

The output power is exactly what we consider the norm for modern amplifiers of a fairly high class. Set of measured specifications channels Front leaves no room for comments - everything here is honest and serious. When measuring the slew rate, the protection also prevented us from bringing the meander span to the maximum. When a capacitive load is connected, the current consumption of the amplifier practically does not change, but even here the warning protection system is triggered, and therefore the oscillograms shown in the figure were obtained with a double swing of 17 V (the maximum corresponds to a swing of 25 V). As can be seen, with a capacitive load, noticeable (15% in amplitude), but quickly damped high-frequency oscillations appear at the output.

Boost characteristics immediately attract attention. The low quality of the correction curves and the gentle rise (2.5/4.3 dB at 50 Hz) do not turn the bass into a sausage but allow it to slightly change its color. The cutoff frequency of the low-pass filter varies from 54 to 216 Hz, the steepness of the decline is indeed 24 dB / oct. At the level of -1 dB, with the filter turned off as much as possible, the upper cutoff frequency will be 183 Hz, that is, it is higher than with the filter turned off. But the passive output filter of the D-class is an integral element of the circuit, which means that when the input low-pass filter is turned on, it (the output filter) simply changes to a higher cutoff frequency. What for? To provide a clear and expected frequency response over the entire cutoff frequency range. This is really serious. Well, the high-pass filter is tuned in the range from 50 to 220 Hz in strict accordance with the declaration.

I will sell the three-channel amplifier on the basis of chipsTDA2050

Output power (nom/max): 3 x 25/35 W into 4 ohms

two polar impulse block power supply, based on the IR2153 chip, provides a three-fold power reserve. An active cooling system using a low-speed fan at low speeds provides good cooling and very low noise levels.

Speaker protection with plug-in delay (no popping from transients during power on and power off) will reliably protect your speakers, thereby preserving them from damage.

Can be used as a pre-amplifier, for low-gain amplifiers, and as a headphone amplifier. It's no secret that not all sound cards provide a sufficient signal level when headphones are connected.

The ability to connect three more amplifiers, both for joint work and only for volume control from one panel. Switchable AC outputs using electromagnetic relays with just one toggle switch.

A connector for connecting a standard power cord, the input is organized on popular RCA connectors (tulips), An additional screw system for fastening the output connector for connecting speakers, headphones and an additional amplifier will ensure reliable contact even under very strong mechanical stress. Duplication of contact groups of the output connector provides reliable electrical contact with a current margin, thereby reducing the risk of distortion when playing at high power.

The body is made on the basis of the body computer block food with subsequent painting. Front and rear panels fiberglass.

Left toggle switch - network. Right toggle switch - turn off the speakers. The left knob is the volume of mono channel 1. The right knob is the volume of stereo channels 2 and 3. On the front panel there is an indicator of connection to the network on a red LED.

The body of the amplifier has 4 rubber feet for reliable contact with the surface on which it is installed. The chrome-plated fan grill, in addition to the aesthetic load, reliably protects the blades from unwanted contact with other objects.

The amplifier can also be used in conjunction with a stereo amplifier in a home theater system, in which case it can act as an additional link for amplifying the rear and center channels.

It is also possible to connect according to the 2.1 scheme, in this case two channels are used to reproduce a stereo signal, and one is connected to a passive or active subwoofer.

It is also possible to connect an amplifier according to the scheme 3 + 3 or more. The low-level output of the amplifier allows you to connect up to 60 external amplifiers with an input impedance of at least 1 kOhm (through an appropriate adapter). Such a scheme is relevant when holding mass events and outdoor recreation using a large number of externally connected amplifiers and simultaneous volume control from one point.
