It should be noted that the functionality IrfanView expandable with plugins, which can be found on the official website of the developer.

Before getting to know IrfanView, let's say a few words about programs for viewing digital images, about what they are needed for, what they can and cannot do.
Once upon a time, such programs only provided the user with the opportunity convenient viewing and sorting photos. Now almost all such systems have a built-in graphics editor.

It may seem that such functionality is redundant - after all, on the computer of each "advanced" user, Adobe Photoshop or another sufficiently powerful graphics package. By means of "Photoshop" with pictures, you can do whatever you want (we will keep silent about licensed cleanliness, but it does not affect the capabilities of the program). However, even the most “advanced of advanced”, with the exception of some professional photographers and designers, do not use even a small fraction of the possibilities Photoshop. First of all, amateur photographers need a simple and fast working tool, and these two epithets do not fit Photoshop in any way. An amateur photographer needs, in general, quite a bit: the ability to cut out a fragment, change the size or resolution of the image, and adjust the sharpness and brightness. Maximum - adjust color scheme or "play" with effects and filters.

In most cases, even free graphics packages have not only basic functions, but also the opportunities "for growth", which the amateur photographer will "try out" only with time. For example, the ability to perform various “batch operations”, in which a given action affects not one, but a large number of images at once.

Another important point- the ability of such programs to open a wide variety of file types (including images obtained directly from digital camera matrices), as well as convert different types files.

In general, if you want to organize your photo archive or prepare photos for printing, you cannot do without a "smart" viewer.

Why IrfanView?

The popularity of this viewer rests on the "three pillars": functionality, simplicity and free. The program has an official Russian localization, although compared to the previous features, this is no longer so important.

Besides, IrfanView has a so-called modular architecture, that is, a significant part of the functionality is implemented not in the program itself, but in the form individual modules- plugins, which, if necessary, are downloaded and installed separately. As a result, the user can configure the program by installing only those plug-ins that he really needs, without cluttering his PC with unnecessary files, and the interface with panels and buttons.

The program itself, and the crack for it, you can download from the developer's website - www.irfanview.com .

Installation and Russification of IrfanView

Run the setup file. In the window and in the next window, click the [Next>] button. Now you need to choose which types of files will open with IrfanView. If you - experienced user, select the required formats from the proposed list and check the box next to each of them. If in doubt, press the button - all existing image formats will be automatically marked (the fact is that IrfanView can also play video and music, but, in our opinion, it is better to use specialized applications for this).

Click on [Next>] again and in the window that opens, politely refuse the offer to install Google Desktop Search (if you need this program, you will install it yourself later) by checking the option. After that, click on [Next>] twice in a row, and then on . The installation will be completed and a cute animal will appear on the desktop.

To make the program “speak” in Russian, extract the file from the archive and copy it to the . Launch IrfanView and select the item from the menu. In the list, select and click .

Initial setup IrfanView

“Teach” the program to correctly open photos

1. In order to open any image in IrfanView, just click on its name in Windows Explorer- after installing the program, IrfanView icons are displayed next to all graphic files. You can also open a file from the program itself: to do this, click on the button on the toolbar, select the desired image and click [Open].

2. Opening a picture taken with a modern digital camera, we will see only part of the image. The fact is that, unlike the standard Windows XP viewer, IrfanView opens pictures in their "native" resolution. And since the picture was taken with a six-megapixel camera, its resolution is twice that of the monitor: 2816x2112 pixels (information about the resolution of a picture opened in IrfanView is displayed in the program's status bar). Therefore, only a quarter of the photo fit on a screen with a resolution of 12801x1024 pixels. Fix the situation.

3. Go to the [View] menu, click [Window Mode Options], and check the [Scale all images to fit window] option. Check that [Center Image in Window] is checked. Now everything is in order: the photos are visible in their entirety.

Change image orientation

Many frames have not “landscape” (when the width of the image is greater than the height; this does not depend on the content - the presence of a landscape is not implied at all), but a “portrait” orientation (that is, the height of the frame is greater than the width; while the portrait in the picture is not at all necessary ). Only a few cameras have orientation sensors and can "rotate" photos correctly. In most cases, the "portrait" image enters the computer unfolded, and all viewers without exception display it "lying on its side."

1. To rotate an image by 90 degrees, select the [Image] item in the main menu of the application, and then the [Rotate clockwise] command (to rotate it clockwise) or [Rotate counterclockwise] (to rotate it counterclockwise). The same operations can be performed without using the menu - by pressing the keys [R] and [L], respectively.

2. Now everything looks as it should, but when you re-open the file, the photo is again displayed as before - “lying”. To save the changes made permanently, after rotating, you need to save the file by clicking the [Save] button on the toolbar or the [S] key on the keyboard. In the save menu, select desired format file, such as JPEG (for some unknown reason, the default is BMP, which is extremely inconvenient due to the huge size of the files). A window will open. At first, we recommend moving the compression ratio slider from 80% (this is the default value) to the extreme right position, and leave the rest of the values as they are. Over time, you will learn to "play" with the compression level, for example, to minimize the file size.

3. If the image you are rotating was taken by a digital camera, leave the checkbox [Save with original date] checked - the original date and time of capture will be saved in the photo properties. Then click [Save]; the photo will now display as it should.

Putting pictures in order

Change the size and quality of the image

One of the most frequently solved tasks by any "digital" photographer is to reduce the size of pictures (to send them by mail or quickly burn them to some medium) and prepare them for printing.

1. If you plan to print a photo on a color printer, it makes sense to change its resolution, measured in dots per inch - dpi (the optimal resolution for printing is 300 dpi). To do this, open a snapshot in IrfanView and click the button on the toolbar (or the [I] key). In the image properties window that opens, enter the desired resolution and click [Set].

2. If you plan to admire photos exclusively on a PC monitor (for example, with a resolution of 1280x1024 pixels), it makes sense to make the size of the picture similar to the size of the Desktop. To do this, select the [Image] item in the menu, and then the [Resize Image] command (or press the hotkeys Ctrl + R). In the window that opens, you can either change the resolution manually, or select a standard one from the list. Appeal to last point in the [Stretch to Fit Desktop] list box will automatically resize the photo to fit the current screen resolution. Then click [OK].

3. In order not to lose your changes, save the file as described above. To cancel recent changes any options, click the button on the toolbar (or "hot keys" Ctrl + Z).

4. To see how the file size has changed after changing the resolution, click the button.

Crop and "mirror" the image

Very often, not only what we wanted to shoot, but also a lot of superfluous gets into the frame.
And sometimes, in order to make a picture more expressive, it can be useful to rotate the image to an arbitrary angle or “mirror” it - that is, “reflect” it about the central axis (vertical or horizontal).

1. To cut out any part of the image, select it while pressing the left mouse button. When the desired fragment is selected (circled by a frame), in the [Edit] menu, select [Crop selection].

2. Select [Resize Image] from the [Picture] menu to rotate the image. In the window that opens, enter the size of the angle of rotation. Convenient: in the window preview the result is immediately visible. In order to “mirror” the picture vertically (for example, if you want a person shot in profile to look the other way), in the [Image] menu, click [Rotate vertically]. If you want to "swap top and bottom" - select [Rotate horizontally]. Sometimes - for example, when shooting flowers or insects - this approach gives unexpected and spectacular results.

Using Effects

By using IrfanView It's easy to feel like a real photographer. For example, you can “age” a photograph, “turn” it into an engraving or an oil painting, add drops of non-existent rain that supposedly sparkled on the lens, etc. Moreover, no special knowledge is needed for this - just a few clicks of the mouse button are enough.

1. To start "artistic work", select [Image] from the menu, click on [Effects] and then on [Effects Browser] (you can speed up the process of launching the Effects Browser by using the hotkeys Ctrl + E). In the window that opens, you can select one of more than thirty different effects by clicking on their names in the list.

2. To see how this or that effect works, it is not necessary to immediately apply it to the entire photo. After selecting an effect, two thumbnails will be displayed in the list on the right: your photo before and after applying it.

3. In some effects, it is possible to " fine tuning» - for example, in the effect that turns a photo into an oil painting, by moving the slider, you can select optimal size"strokes". And in the Swirl effect, it's easy to manipulate the twisting force of the spiral. When the slider is moved to the left, the spiral will “unwind”, when shifted to the right, it will “curl” more strongly.

4. To apply the selected effect to the photo, click the button in the Effect Browser window. The photo will change, but the browser will remain open - this is convenient if you plan to apply several effects to one image at once (this is also possible). If you click the [OK] button, the browser window will close and you will see the transformed photo.

Advice
Digital effects can make a photograph very expressive. But not every picture benefits from applying an effect to it. It is almost impossible to predict in advance whether this or that effect will suit a particular photo. Therefore - experiment!
If the image becomes more expressive after applying the effect, save the result! If this does not happen, press Ctrl + Z and try another option.
Sometimes - however, this happens extremely rarely - an interesting result is obtained by superimposing two or more effects "on top of each other."
But don't use effects for the sake of effects. Today, digital manipulations are not surprising, and therefore their application to the image should be justified.

Batch image processing

If you have a large archive of photographs taken at different times by different cameras, you may sooner or later want to “bring it to a common denominator”: for example, set the same resolution for all pictures or choose a single file format. Or you decide to make the pictures in one folder black and white and prepare the other folder for printing. Or maybe you will come up with “speaking” names for all the files in order to immediately understand when or where the picture was taken. AT Windows simple renaming several dozen files will require a lot of time and repetitive routine actions, while in IrfanView everything is done much faster and more conveniently.

Rename a group of files

1. In the program menu, click [File] and select [Convert\Rename Group of Files] from the list of commands (or just press the B key). In the window that opens, mark the group of files that you are going to rename: click on each of them - the files will immediately go to the [Files to process] window. Or, without selecting files individually, select the entire folder and click [Add All].

2. Specify the folder where the renamed files will be saved. By default, this is , to navigate to another folder, click [Browse]. Check the [Batch Rename] option and proceed to the main thing - creating a naming template for future files. The naming principle is extremely simple: all entered letters, numbers and other symbols will form part of the name, the same for all files, and the “#” signs after them will be replaced by serial numbers. If the group you are working with has less than 100 files, enter two "#" characters into the template - the files will be automatically assigned sequence numbers from 01 to 99. Accordingly, if there are more than 100 files, put three "#" so that the numbering goes from 001 to 999.

3. If you are absolutely sure that you will do everything right, rename source files“in place”, and do not create copies of them in a new folder (however, at first it’s better not to risk it). To do this, click the [Rename settings] button and check the [Rename source files (at your own risk, be careful)] option. In the "fine-tuning" window [Batch Rename Options], you can replace part of the name of the source file by entering the old and new names in the appropriate fields. To apply the selected options, click [OK].

4. To start renaming according to the selected conditions, press the [START] button. To cancel the settings you have made and exit the batch operation window, click [Cancel] at any time.

Change the parameters of a group of files

1. To enter the file group operation menu, repeat steps 1 and 2 in the previous section. After selecting the source files and the folder where they will be written after conversion, check the [Batch conversion] option.

2. To change the format of a group of files, select the desired format from the [Output Format] list. If you are an advanced user, you can set the conversion parameters yourself (for example, set the compression level for JPEG) by clicking the [Options] button and specifying the desired values in the window that opens.

3. To change not only the format of the selected group of files, but also other parameters, check the checkbox [Use Extra options] and click the [Settings] button. For example, to change the size of a group of pictures, in the window that opens, check the [RESIZE] checkbox and set the desired number of horizontal and vertical dots. To change the resolution, enter the desired value in the field.

Working with plugins

1. Download plugins to IrfanView you can from the official website of the developer by entering in your browser window www.irfanview.com/plugins. On the page that opens, click on the link, and then click on , and .

2. When the download is complete, run the downloaded file by clicking on its name . When asked by the installer [Cannot verify the publisher. Are you sure you want to run this program?] answer by clicking the [Run] button, then click [Next>] and then click [OK].

3. Run IrfanView- You will find a number of new features in the program. For example, the [Filter Factory Plugins] button became active in the effects submenu. By clicking on it, you will be taken to the window of the so-called "filter factory". With this plug-in, you can install additional effects into the program and use additional effects when working with images. You can download them from the Internet - these are files with the *.8BF extension.

4. One more useful feature- the ability to quickly perform operations on files in JPEG format(rotation, "mirroring", etc.) without loss of quality and literally one or two clicks of the mouse button. To use this function, select the [Tools] menu item and the [Lossless JPG Operations... (plug-in)] command. In the window that opens, check the required options and click .

Quite often, when filling the site with content, you have to insert a variety of pictures. It’s good if they are your own and you make them right away in the right size. What if they are from other sites?

In such cases, it is necessary not only to reduce the size of the image, but also to get rid of the information that it may contain, so that the "owner" of the image has less reason to "hook" you.

In the picture itself, both its name and the camera with which the shooting was carried out can be "sewn in". In a word ©Copyright.

Attention! I have released a new Romb theme for your articles and blogs. The fastest on Google PageSpeed and maximum optimization for SEO.

So there are two items on the agenda:

  • change image size in 5 seconds;
  • remove unnecessary "wired" information.

We will solve these problems using the program IrfanView, which is free and there are crackers.

How to reduce image size

Many of you use Photoshop for this procedure. I also once used it to reduce the size. However, a few years ago, when filling a site with movies, there was a need to quickly change the content on the site, including resizing images.

A friend suggested IrfanView, which I still use for this type of work on my Acer Aspire E1-572g-34014g50mnii laptop. Works great and without brakes.

After installing the program, just open the picture and it will appear in a standard window, for example, as shown below:

The arrow shows the original size. Agree, it is not advisable to place such a size on the site, because. the larger the size, the greater the "weight", which affects the page loading speed. If there are a lot of graphics on the site, saving even one megabyte will significantly affect the load (does not apply to specialized sites).

That's indirectly and touched on the fact that when you change the size of the picture, its "weight" also decreases.

Now to practice.

Opening the picture IrfanView Image Resize Image. All this is in the program menu.

I prefer to use a keyboard shortcut, which speeds up the work several times. Click CTRL+R and achieve the same effect as when using the program menu:

In the presented screenshot (it was made using FastStone Capture), the arrows show two blocks in which we are changing the size. The lower arrow points to the parameter that will keep these same proportions, i.e. by changing the width, the height will remain proportional to it. Thus, knowing only one parameter you need, the second will automatically adjust, which will not allow the picture to stretch and keep a presentable look.

After the change, click "OK" and the picture before your eyes is reduced. However, this is not all.

Pay attention to how the checkboxes are set for me. Such a setting will allow you to remove unnecessary information from a photo / picture, which I mentioned at the beginning of the article. This setting is saved until you yourself change something in it, i.e. remembers the choice of checkboxes.

Outcome

What can be learned from the article:

  • To change the size of the image, just click CTRL+R;
  • to remove redundant information, it is enough to save CTRL+S.

Try it and see how long this procedure will take you. Longer than through Photoshop or analogues?

Bonus

As a bonus to the possibilities described above, it should be noted that as the size of the photo changes, the "weight" also changes. See:

Irfan Viewcan be safely attributed to the most classic samples of graphics viewer programs. Its first version was released back in 1996. The program has been available for free download for many years, and according to statistics, by 2012 it had been downloaded at least sixty million times. In general, you can’t really blame her for the lack of user attention. What is the reason for such popularity, and how much does the program deserve attention and download?

Brand Featureprogram can be called its exceptional ease and simplicity. Don't be deceived, though - behind the compact and uncluttered exterior is powerful and user-friendly content.

Program interfacelooks pretty spartan, easily supports multi-window launch (which is rare for many similar Windows Applications) and is quite intuitive. Although connoisseurs of style and design perfection may seem too laconic and colorless. However, it is unlikely to cause any particular difficulties in mastering.

First, by which any viewer is met - a set of supported formats. After all, its main task is to be able to open any graphic file for viewing. With thisIrfan View everything is going pretty well. Almost all major formats are supported, including quite specific options such as PSD and DDS. It also provides support for both audio andvideo files all types, codecs for which are present in the system. As a small nice little thing - support for displaying animations in GIF files and the ability to unpack them into a number of separate storyboard files.

Like many"colleagues" in the craft of Irfan View is able to carry out basic file editing - change the brightness, contrast and color of the image. At the same time, color calibration on individual channels is possible, which no doubt will be appreciated by many who have to actively work with graphics, and resort to Photoshop help no time or opportunity.

Presentand a set of filters for working with photographic images - blurring, sharpening, cropping, rotation, red-eye removal, and even, which is already surprising for such a compact program - imitation of painting or filters for averaging borders and colors (Median Filter).

When scaling an imageseveral resampling algorithms are supported, which already brings the program closer in terms of capabilities, if not to a professional, then to a semi-professional level for sure. The program will gain even more features if you install a set of plug-ins supplied by the developer, including plug-ins that allow you to use filters from Photoshop.

A separate pleasant component– support for automating the work of the main settings and filters in the batch conversion mode, which allows you to apply the specified conversions to sets of a significant number of files. This allows you to greatly speed up and simplify various routine operations for the same type of processing of large masses of images.

For allWith this breadth of possibilities, the program works quickly and stably, which is very important. If some operations caused the work to slow down, then the possibility of running several copies of the program in parallel can always help out.

Summing upthe results, we can conclude that, despite some brevity of the interface, Irfan View is a very powerful and easy-to-use program that not only fully meets the requirements forgraphics viewer , but also capable of taking on some of the functions of a full-fledged graphic editor.

I am glad to present to my regular readers a new program from a series of viewers, which I began to describe a long time ago and was the first contender. Today we need to talk about worthy analogue, which differs from the first more simple interface, which was the fundamental criterion for the development of .

Everything you need is hidden in a small window with a minimal set of buttons, but what else do you need? Just convenience.

The program, as you already understood, is completely free (for non-commercial use), combines the functionality of the viewer and images, and audio and video files; installation is designed for Operating Systems Windows and React OS. The disadvantage of the viewer is the incomplete functionality for editing images, but I think this additional features, and not a mandatory tool in a simple IrfanView, especially since the distribution kit does not allow you to fit a whole Photoshop or CorelDRAW there.

I'll try to highlight the list of utility features:

  • Multi-window support, performing completely different operations in each window;
  • Extended image scrolling: just drag a graphic file from the folder with a collection of photos with the mouse and press the space bar to start almost a slide show;
  • Renaming and convecting files to batch mode;
  • Creation of web pages using existing photos;
  • Create splash screens;
  • All basic operations of the selected parts of the photo;
  • More advanced feature than XnView for resizing the canvas and image size;
  • Thumbnail preview and full screen slideshow;
  • And much, much more...

I can’t surprise you with the support of a large number of formats, XnView has already done it for me, but Irfan has distinguished itself by supporting plugins, one of which compresses PNG files and applies transparency to them, just like the GIF format.

There is a function for unpacking GIF animation into separate images. Various effects, adjusting brightness, contrast are already the basis of such programs, but it’s worth praising for the speed of all these options, and you should also thank the developers for the viewer, which has not yet been perverted by unnecessary knick-knacks. It's nice to think that standard means Windows Image Viewer can be changed to programs such as Irfan and Xn.

And finally, stability, yes, also a sensual moment, but I think if there are reviews on the Internet about departures, then they still exist, I did not observe this in XnView. but developers do not want to put up with editing bugs and release new versions much less often than their counterparts.

Well, what can I say, I’ll immediately say that the product has no future, I rarely see product updates, but for those who care about the speed of work and the simplest interface, feel free to download and install the program. The title for the best functionality still remains on the side of XnView, not flying over to a simpler analogue.
