Flat cables are used to connect moving elements with the electronic filling of the device. During operation, such loops can break, and the contact comes off or disappears. To find the cause of the malfunction and lack of contact, the cables ring with an ohmmeter, carefully bending the connecting tracks into different sides(to detect the absence of contact in each track of the loop).

But ... a train - a train of strife. For example, in computer technology, this is the slang name for a ribbon (flat) cable; such loops are usually used to connect hard drives, optical drives and other nodes to motherboard PC. Another thing is the loop in the fire alarm system - an electrical circuit that connects the output circuits of the detectors, auxiliary elements and is designed to transmit signals to the receiving and control device, and in some cases to supply power to the detectors. A cellular or (cordless) radiotelephone cable is a component that connects several moving parts of a telephone and is designed to transmit an electronic signal from one part of the phone to another, such as from an electronic circuit board to an LCD display (indicator).

It was this section that lost working capacity in my radiotelephone (Chinese-made) Texet TX-D5300; after falling to the floor from a height of 1.5 m, the display of the portable "tube" ceased to indicate individual segments of characters. I had to disassemble this radiotelephone and localize the malfunction, which consists in a partial loss of contact between the plastic cable track and the tinned contacts on the board with the indicator display.

The cost of such a cable varies in the range of 100-600 rubles, and therefore, in my opinion, given the rapid "moral" aging of a certain phone model, it is not reasonable to spend money on purchasing a new cable, and then also reserve time for its installation in the device; it is easier to repair the old cable using additional jumpers, which I will discuss below. On fig. 2 shows that the contacts of the cable are glued to the display and in this part a quick and "economical" repair is not effective.

Rice. 2 Loop and LCD connection

On the other side of the loop, the contacts are soldered to the board in a checkerboard pattern (Fig. 3).

Loop repair technology

Remove the back cover of the radiotelephone case, 2 AA batteries. Unscrew the 2 screws accessible after removing the batteries and the cover. A flat screwdriver (placed in a joint in the area of \u200b\u200bthe sound capsule above the display) disconnects the two housing covers; after which 2 more screws become available. Having unscrewed them, remove the main printed circuit board. Then, under the display, a plastic cover is removed (it is held on by double-sided tape). After that, it is already possible to ring the loop, with the help of which a break is found in a specific track (tracks).

With a medical needle, using a portable magnifier, they clean the insulation of the conductors of the loop, periodically restoring the sharpening of the needle on a fine emery bar; this problem is quite easy to solve. Then, with a soldering iron with a power of 25 W, with a piece of copper wire wound around a v-shaped oblique zhalr - as a thin and sharp tip, solder the stripped sections of the cable, removing the rest of the plastic insulation.

With a scalpel blade (or a knife), a 1-2 mm section of the plume track is cleaned and tinned. Then, using the same device, dressed on a soldering iron tip, the conductor is soldered to the printed circuit board. Repeat these operations as many times as the loop conductors need to be restored. An almost repaired loop is checked for gaps between all adjacent conductor tracks.

The next step is to wrap the thermal film (suitable from the printer) or thick polyethylene in one layer at the newly soldered tracks of the cable. Then it is heated with an iron until it melts slightly (the cable film begins to melt and sticks well to the board). At this stage, the main thing is to drive with a sting with slight pressure, smoothly. They also solder the cable on the other side to the phone's display board (in the case when the indicator is attached using rubberized tracks).

If one or more tracks of the cable broke not at the edge, but in the middle (in the center of the length, this is usually noticeable visually even with the naked eye), to restore it, it is better to duplicate the tracks with pieces of thin flexible mounting wire, for example, MGTF-0.6.

Reassembly of the radiotelephone body is carried out in the reverse order.

Attention important!

If the train is small in terms of the number of tracks (for example, up to 10), it can be made literally “on the knee”, fixing the wires into a home-made train from a wide fabric-based adhesive plaster. In this case, the wires are laid on a piece of plaster (corresponding to the length of the regular cable), one to the other and with the same insulating interval. The length of the conductors is varied in a checkerboard pattern (in addition to the corresponding “pattern” on the printed circuit board, this is also necessary in order to protect the soldering place of the previous one from touching the soldering tip when soldering the next conductor, and, therefore, its instant soldering).

In the same way, you can quickly repair radiotelephones of other models, and even cell phones that have “broken” (frequent failure of sliders and “clamshells”) or partially lost contact of the connecting cable.

Articles and Lifehacks

Printed circuit boards and moving elements of modern mobile technology are interconnected thanks to flat conductors, also called loops.

In the process of active use of the device, one of these cables often breaks, and the owner of the device begins to wonder how to restore the cable on the phone.

Our article for those who have certain technical skills, it will tell you how to independently make repairs in this situation.

What is required for recovery

Modern mobile devices are rapidly going out of fashion, and they are constantly being replaced by others.

However, not every user is ready to shell out money not only for the purchase of an improved smartphone, but also for the purchase and installation of a new cable that has failed.

  • If we disassemble the mobile device, we will see that the contacts are glued directly to the display, and in this situation we can hardly do anything. From the opposite end, the cables are connected to the board in a certain sequence.
  • To find a faulty conductor, use a device called an ohmmeter. At the same time, the connecting elements are carefully bent in opposite directions in order to reveal the “flickering” contact.
  • For repairs, we need a set of materials and special tools, including a flathead screwdriver, a magnifying glass, a needle, alcohol, sandpaper, a soldering iron, thermal film (thick polyethylene), adhesive tape and a multicore MGTF cable.

Loop recovery instructions

  1. Remove the back cover of the device case and remove the battery. After that, unscrew the fastening screws with a screwdriver.
  2. We remove the main board and the overlay under the screen, made of plastic. It is attached with 2 sided tape.
  3. Now you can search for a break on a specific track. We remove the insulation with a needle, making it easier for ourselves to view with a magnifying glass. It is better to sharpen the needle sometimes.
  4. We wind a piece of copper wire on the tip of our soldering iron. It is best if we use a low power device (up to 25 watts). We solder the stripped sections of the conductor, eliminating the remnants of what was insulation.
  5. We prepare the stripped edge of the dangling cable (about 1.2 mm) to be soldered to the main board. If several conductors are damaged, repeat the above action for each of them.
  6. Now solder the edges to the board and check for gaps between the tracks.
  7. We take the thermal film and wrap it at the soldered edges of the cable in 1 layer. We warm up until the moment when it begins to melt and stick to the tape.

In this case, a conventional iron can be used. The main thing is to use it carefully and smoothly, avoiding strong pressure. If necessary, warm up the cable from the back side.

  8. If the track broke off not at the edge, but in the center, it is best to duplicate it with pieces of mounting wire. Now you can start assembling the mobile device.
We add that if the train is small in size, it can be made on its own. To do this, we lay and fasten the conductors on a strip of tissue medical plaster.

Are you familiar with the principle of connecting all moving elements with printed circuit board in all modern mobile technologies? The connection of these elements is achieved using loops. In the course of continuous operation, this component may fail. How to fix and restore the cable on the phone? Users without experience immediately panic and start looking for the nearest service center. But in the workshop, plume services cost quite a lot of money, and who likes unexpected costs? This article will help those users who have basic knowledge of working with modern technology. Today we will try to repair, solder and connect the cable with our own efforts.

A little about the device and future work

Modern models mobile phones very quickly lose their former relevance, because they are replaced by new versions of devices. Not every user is ready to give a large amount of money in order to get a new one. powerful smartphone. Therefore, you need to do the restoration of the loop. Components for such devices are not very expensive, but their installation is quite a costly undertaking.

Is it possible to repair the loop with your own hands? If you disassemble your gadget, you will see that the contact pads are attached directly to the display. On the reverse side of the case, these parts are attached to the printed circuit board in a certain sequence.

Important! In order to determine the malfunction, you need to get a brand new multimeter, in which an ohmmeter will be built in to measure resistance. In the same service centers, the connecting components are bent in opposite directions to identify a problematic contact.

If during the diagnostics other problems were revealed, we advise you to eliminate them at the same time. Perhaps, in this case, our other publications will be useful to you:

Tools

To carry out repairs at home, you need to notably prepare and find special materials and tools, such as:

  1. Flat screwdriver.
  2. Magnifying glass.
  3. Needle.
  4. Alcohol solution.
  5. Sandpaper.
  6. Soldering Station.
  7. Thick polyethylene layer.
  8. Adhesive tape and stranded MGTF cable.

Important! Before you start restoration work, think a few times. All manipulations are not particularly difficult if you have ever done something like this. If there is no absolute certainty of success, then we recommend that you still find service center where skilled workers will take matters into their own hands.

Method one

In order to repair the phone cable, you need to follow these steps:

  • Remove the back cover of your device and remove the battery.
  • Now you need to unscrew the fixing screws using a flat screwdriver.
  • Remove the main PCB and the plastic cover under the screen. The last component is attached with double-sided tape.
  • Next, you need to look for a gap in any of the tracks. To do this, get rid of the insulation with a needle.

Important! Use a magnifying glass to make the process easier.

  • We take a soldering iron in our hands and wind a piece of copper wire around its tip. The best component is low parameters power (somewhere around 20-25 watts). We solder the remnants of the wire insulation.
  • The edge that has just been cleaned needs to be prepared for connection to the board.

Important! If for some reason several conductors were damaged at once, then we repeat the last manipulation for each of them.

  • If we have finished with the previous paragraph, then we proceed to the soldering itself. We solder the edges to the PCB and carefully examine the entire circuit for gaps between the tracks.
  • Pick up a thermal film or a layer of polyethylene, wrap the edges of the soldered cable with it at least in one layer. Warm up the whole thing until the moment you melt the film, thereby gluing it to the tape. An iron is perfect for this action, but you need to take into account that the whole procedure must be carried out with extreme caution.
  • It happens that the path breaks not at the edges, but in the very center. To fix this problem, it is best to duplicate this track using pieces of mounting conductor.
  • Now we assemble the mobile device in the reverse order and check it for operability.

Important! Also, you should know that the train can be made independently. To do this, lay the conductors on a layer of conventional medical plaster.

How to repair a phone cable in another way? Everything is very simple.

Method two

Restoration work can be carried out as follows:

  • First, grind a small amount of rosin to a powder state and dissolve in an alcohol solution. To create a solution, use a proportional ratio of one to six.
  • Now we pick up the good old Moment glue and glue the damaged area onto an insulated plate. Then you need to put this compound under the most ordinary technical microscope, which everyone used in biology classes at school.
  • Let's start removing the insulation. As a tool, you can use a scalpel or a small knife. We remove somewhere 1.5 mm of the wire at the place of the break. Next, you need to apply a little of the solution that was in the first paragraph to the tape section. Use a brush to apply the mixture. After applying, touch the tip of the soldering iron to this section of the cable.
  • Remove the varnish with a scalpel and carefully smear this piece with a solution of rosin and alcohol. Tin the conductor 25 mm from its edge and carefully solder it to the outermost track in relation to the outermost plume.

Important! For convenience, it is better to lift the wire in the middle above those parts that are damaged.

  • We bend the section of the wire that connects the two sides of the non-working track and bite off the excess parts that were formed during the work with wire cutters. It remains to solder the cable to the board.
  • If there is a need to “build up” the loop, then use another section of the loop with the corresponding geometric dimensions. Cut the component perpendicular to the damaged area.
  • We clean, connect and solder both halves. We isolate the sections of the wire that are bare and assemble the mobile phone in the reverse order.

Lying on a shelf at homeseat from Walkman (D-NE920). A good player, BUT ... .. He does not plow. After parsing, it turned out that the reason lies in the broken head cable, so today it will be shown how to fix the cable with your own hands.

Disassembly

Nothing really special inside. Standard giblets for a CD player are a head with a mechanical drive and electronics.

Even before disassembly, it was found that half of the cable going to the head was broken. Unfortunately, I lost the very first photo of what the train looked like initially ((

I was lucky because the train was one-sided, although there are also two-sided ones. If the conductors pass from both sides, then the possibility of repairing such a loop is greatly complicated. Although it all depends on the dexterity of the hands and the width of the conductors. I have not encountered this. Typically, two-way loops are used in cell phones and laptops to save space.

The player itself got to me already in a deplorable state and for a long time lay quietly on the shelf. How it was possible to manage to break the train like that, I, frankly, do not even understand.

Here is the head of the player with a torn cable. All rags and damaged areas were cut off. Now I'll show you how to fix the loop.

How to fix the train, let's go ...

The photo above shows that from the side of the head it is not cut off evenly, but with a ladder. The ladder goes along the conductors of the loop.

But the ladder is already on both sides of the train break.

To restore and fully operate the cable, it is necessary to connect all the broken tracks, and for this it is necessary to solder the wires instead of the missing parts of the cable. To reduce the likelihood of shorting the places of soldering wires to each other, it is better if they are not on the same line, but spaced apart by a ladder.

Ludim guides

To everything went smoothly, it’s better to tin the wiring right away (you can see how to do this in) and also tin the conductors on the cable. To do this, you need to peel off the top insulating layer.

I did it with the edge of a clerical knife. It is enough to clean off a small area, into which you then need to poke with a soldering iron with tin dipped in rosin. The result should be a tin droplet.

Instead of the missing parts of the cable, there will be wires from the headphones. They are useful for three reasons:

  1. Houses there will always be dead headphones.
  2. Such wires are a mixture of thin copper wires and nylon threads. Thanks to this they bend easily, more hardy and thinner.
  3. They are varnished along the entire length. Accordingly, they do not need any external insulating braid, which will only thicken them and hinder their flexibility.

Soldering the wires

The first step was to restore the extreme conductors. In fact, there is no difference where to start, just the extreme contacts turned out to be thicker and training was carried out on them)

There were still three thin (~0.1 mm) conductors in the center. It seemed pointless to me to cut them out together with the base of the cable, and in order to separate the soldering points, the extra parts of the conductors simply came off.

Now that all the wires are soldered, you need to make sure that there are no soldering errors. We pick up a multimeter, turn on the resistance measurement mode and check first of all whether we have shorted adjacent conductors to each other. If everything is fine, then now it is necessary to ring each conductor from the beginning of the loop (connector) to the place where something is soldered to the loop:

Protective covering

If something is wrong, we look for it and fix it. When everything is OK, only the final touch remains. For protection against little of anything I painted over the soldering points with nail polish and sealed the problem area with adhesive tape.

To be honest, I had a little doubt about the adhesive tape, after all, the cable should bend easily when the head moves, and because of the adhesive tape, the cable became harsh, but bent)

We collect, we try ...

This is where I was most disappointed... The problem was not only in the cable, but also in the electronics. When the player was connected to charging, it showed charging on the screen, but it turned off for a couple of seconds, and after that, it no longer reacted to any buttons. Disconnection and reconnection charging only led to a repetition of the described ...

It was 2 o'clock in the morning, the mood to repair noticeably diminished and the player went further to collect dust on the shelf ... This is so sad :-(

I hope that the information about the repair of the loop was useful to you))

The need to restore a broken loop of several wires or tracks most often arises in cases where a device or gadget has been damaged for one reason or another. This can happen due to moisture getting inside the device or contact failure due to careless handling of existing connections.

The situation is aggravated by the fact that it is not always possible to completely replace the flexible tape of wires (unless you contact a specialized workshop with a request to find spare parts suitable for the gadget). It is for this reason that it may be necessary to independently solder the matrix cable of a phone, laptop, TV or other device.

Repair (restoration) of broken connections makes sense only when it is impossible to find a replacement for the damaged tape or individual contact assemblies. Soldering a flexible cable is also advisable in cases where only a small part of the conductors could break, which, if desired, can be soldered with a miniature soldering iron.

In the absence of a special tool and soldering experience, it is best to contact a repair shop. Otherwise, you can ruin the train completely.

For laptop repair, for example, you will have to pay a significant amount (about 400-600 rubles), but you can be absolutely sure of the quality of the new connection. But even in this case, it is possible to find ways to save money on eliminating any malfunction. To do this, in particular, it will be possible to seek help from a friend who can solder the broken wire.

Self repair

Before deciding whether it is possible to solder the cable yourself, it is important to consider the following factors:

  • the degree of damage;
  • the complexity of disassembling the gadget (phone);
  • the urgency of the work ahead.

So, if in mobile device only one button does not work - it may not be necessary to solder the entire cable. In this case, it will be enough to solder the eyeliner to only one contact.

Tools and materials

For self-soldering a damaged cable, it will be necessary to prepare expendable materials and tools:

  • flux alcohol solution;
  • easy-to-handle tweezers;
  • rosin and low-melting solder;
  • wire with a diameter of 0.15 mm with a varnish coating;
  • a piece of insulator plate (polyamide or kapton);
  • a miniature soldering iron 10-15 watts, a scalpel and a bracket with a microscope (or a magnifying glass).

In addition, the work will require a soft brush, duct tape and side cutters. Most of the materials are always at the home master, so you don’t even have to buy them.

Recovery order

Before soldering the cable at the display, for example, the area to be restored should be fixed on the insulating plate. To do this, it is most convenient to use double-sided adhesive tape.

Clamping guarantees mechanical rigidity during soldering and will provide additional strength to the solder joint in the future.

After that, you need to place the area with the broken cable under the screen with a microscope lens and, using a well-honed scalpel, clean the place of contact from the insulation layer (approximately 1-1.5 mm from the gap). Then, using a brush, apply a thin layer of the previously prepared rosin solution to the cleaned contact.

After a thorough heating of the soldering iron with its tip with a small amount of solder, you need to touch the areas prepared for soldering. With excess solder, they are removed, because otherwise it will be possible to bridge adjacent tracks with them. Following this, a piece of conductor is taken with a core freed from varnish and well tinned, which is then applied to one of the ends of the loop.

In conclusion, by measuring the length of the core according to the size of the contact and biting off its remnants with side cutters, it will be possible to solder the second end to the counterpart of the restored section.

Loop extension

In the event that a break is detected between the moving parts (at the place of a permanent bend in the loop), it will need to be increased.

To do this, it will be possible to use an insert similar in structure, in which the width, number of tracks and their size correspond to the restored ribbon.

At the beginning of the repair, cut the cable at the site of damage and clean each track on both sides. The same will need to be done with the previously prepared insert.

The main thing is to carefully ensure that the tracks on all connected sections of the loop are exactly aligned.

After that, it remains only to solder each of the connected parts, just as it was done for the two ends.

After connecting the contacts, remove the excess flux with a solvent and check the quality of the soldering with a magnifying glass. After that, it is necessary to additionally isolate the restored places with adhesive tape.

If the soldering work was carried out carefully, then the repair can be considered successfully completed - the device will work again.
