We all strive to tell a story with a single photo. However, in many cases a well-constructed collage can be a great way to reveal much more to the viewer. This method can come in handy for event photos, real estate shoots, or even family photo shoots!

Creating a collage in Photoshop is very easy, so let's get started. Please note that I am working with Photoshop CS3.

The choice of photographs is critical. You need to select such a combination of collage elements to display the entire event. This means you need to take a few wide shots that show the whole scene and a few detailed photos that show a lot of texture and personality. Without these or those, the story will be incomplete, and will not convey the emotions that it can convey.

Step 1. Open the selected photos for the collage inphotoshop

Open all selected images in Photoshop. You will need to take at least three, but also avoid too many. I usually limit my selection of photos to eight. Remember that the more photos you choose, the more difficult it will be to see their details.

Step 2Create a new file

Create new file(File -> New). Its size should be slightly larger than the one you want to end up with. I always make it 20x30″ at 150ppi.

Step 3: Add Your Photos One by One

Go to one of the open photos, use the selection tool to select all (or press CTRL+A). Press CTRL+C to copy. Go to a new document and press CTRL+V to paste the selection. This will copy the photo into a new document on a separate layer. Depending on the size and resolution of the image, they may need to be adjusted. To do this, press CTRL+T to transform. Use a corner node and, while holding down the Shift key, set the size so that the image can be easily moved in the new document.

Note: If you convert the image layer to a Smart Object first, it will maintain image quality integrity while resizing.

Step 4. Create a Collage Layout

Once you've added all the photos you want to make a collage of, it's time to arrange them! Move the images around until you feel that this arrangement conveys your story in the best way. After creating several collages, you will develop your own style. I prefer to either create symmetry in the layout or make it look like a puzzle. As they say, every story has its own needs.

Step 5. Add spaces between images

Once the layout is complete and the photos are sized appropriately, you can create a thin white line between them to add some visual space. This step is optional, and the width of the dividing strips depends on your preferences.

To do this, select the image layer you want to move and use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move it in different directions. Using the keyboard arrows instead of the mouse will help create equal space between photos.

Alternatively, you can join them back to back and use a Layer Style (choose Stroke > Inside) to add a white or black border to each image. See screenshot below.

Step 6. Unite all layers

Once your collage is ready and the photos are separated the way you want, it's time to merge all the layers. To do this, press Ctrl+Shift+E.

Step 7: Crop Your Finished Image

After merging all the layers into one, crop the image so that the white space on all sides is the same. In my collages, this border is usually very thin, so I don't bother measuring.

Step 8: Resize for Online Use

You may need to resize your finished collage for social media use. I recommend saving the compressed original as JPEG format to be able to reuse it in the future.

Step 9: Add a Watermark If You Want

If you want to watermark your masterpiece, now is the time. Once you've done this, don't forget to merge all the layers again and save the file as a JPEG. Now you are ready to show your collage to the world.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to create a winter collage with Photoshop action games. The Winter is Coming Photoshop tutorial was inspired by the famous TV series. We will create a medieval scene with a knight and a castle in the background. To create a winter landscape, we'll add falling snow, fog, and of course, change the color tones to change the seasons.

Final image:

Note: The author used paid materials. In the archive you will find Alternative option images to complete the lesson. Instead of a paid action (turning summer into winter), you can use the lesson.

Step 1

In this tutorial, you will learn how to create a winter collage with realistic snow and a snowfall effect. For this lesson, I was inspired by the popular fantasy series Game of Thrones. You can apply the winter effect to any other photo with the same results.

Let's start with a picture of a beautiful medieval castle on a lake. Name this layer Castle on the background.

Duplicate the layer Castle on the background and name it Lock. Resize to 75% as shown in the image below.

Step 2

Add a layer mask to the layer Lock.

With soft round Brush Tool(Brush) black color make a seamless transition between the two layers. You must paint over the lake and the surroundings of the castle. Play with different opacity levels and also change the brush size to get nice results. A layer mask is a non-destructive way to hide an area of an image. With black you hide, and with white you reveal certain areas.

To expand the bottom area of the image, you can use Clone Stamp Tool(stamp) or you can use Edit > Fill(Edit > Run Fill), content-aware(Content Aware) is a new feature in CS5.

Step 3

In this step I will add an adjustment layer Gradient Map(Gradient Map) to change the color shades of the castle. For the gradient, take two colors #65282f / #fef9e8, also set the blend mode to color(Chroma) with Opacity(Opacity) 27%.

Duplicate the layer Gradient Map(Gradient Map). Set the blend mode overlay(Overlap) with Opacity(Opacity) 100% to get a similar result.

Step 4

Now add the medieval knight on a new layer. Add a mask to this layer.

Use again brush tool(Brush) black color with different opacity levels to hide some areas as shown in the window preview. Around the knight, use a Hard Round Brush to make a precise selection. Around other areas, use a soft round brush to create a smooth effect.

Step 5

Add Gradient Map(Gradient Map) with the same colors used for the castle. Set the blend mode to color(Chroma) with Opacity(Opacity) 40%, set this layer as clipping mask.

Add a layer Brightness/Contrast(Brightness/Contrast) as clipping mask for the medieval knight layer.

Add an Adjustment Layer Gradient Map(Gradient Map) above all layers with the following colors: #65282f / #fef9e8 and set the blend mode to color(Chroma) with Opacity(Opacity) 27%.

Step 6

Create a new layer on top of all other layers, name it medieval knight and press combination SHIFT keys+ CTRL + ALT + E to make a merged copy of all layers. Duplicate this layer into a new PSD file.

For a quick and realistic winter makeover, you will need action The approach of winter (for a fee). Download the action and upload the PAT and ATN files. Go to menu Window >Actions(Window > Operations) to open the tab Actions(Operations). Select the action "WINTER EFFECT by PSDDUDE" and press the button play(Playback).

Note: Instead of a paid action, you can use the lesson Turn summer into winter in Photoshop.

The action will stop to set the threshold Levels(Levels). Set it to position 230; the idea is to get some white detail, but not too much. Click OK to continue.

The action will pause for you to paint over the areas you want to reveal and continue playing. By using brush tool(Brush) white paint over the knight. You can adjust the effect after the action is over, so don't pay too much attention to it. Resume playback!

The action will pause for you to paint over the areas you want to make more colorful and resume playback. Take brush tool(Brush), this time black and paint over the same area of the knight. You can adjust the effect after the action is over, so again don't pay too much attention. Resume playback!

The action will stop on this layer style. pattern overlay(Pattern overlay). To move the template, click and drag it on the screen to change the fog effect.

After the action is completed, you will have all the layers intact, so you can adjust the result. To correct the knight you have to go inside the mask with white to bring out the areas you want and black to hide the areas you want. Click on the layer mask thumbnail and simply paint over the image. To give the knight an original color effect, you must paint inside the layer. Hue/Saturation 1 (Hue/Saturation) with black to show the effect and white to hide it. Click on the mask thumbnail and simply paint over the image.

Step 7

If you don't want to use this action, you can try some of these great winter and snow tutorials, but it will take longer.

Step 8

To add the sun flare effect, I used Photoshop's light rays. After tweaking a bit and hiding some adjustments, I got this result. You can use one of the Glare textures with blend mode Screen(Screen) or lighten(Lighter).

As a finishing touch, I used a filter high pass (Colour contrast) to sharpen the image for an icy crisp effect.

Note: You can use this lesson to sharpen.

Here is the final result of our Winter Coming collage in Photoshop. I hope you enjoyed this Photoshop tutorial!

In today's lesson, we will visually consider the creation of an emotional, sensual drawing in a dark forest. The main character of the picture will be a deer. To acquire a whole episode, different pictures are combined into a common image, for this, adjustment layers, layer masks are used and, as a result, light, shadows, etc. are obtained.

This lesson is carried out using the program Adobe Photoshop CC 2014, but other versions of CC 2014 and newer may be used.

Applicable materials:

  • deer
  • crow
  • Nebula texture
  • the texture of burning lights ("Starry 4").

Timeline of creation

Action 1

Create a new document. Commands File - Create (File - New). Set the dimensions, they must be at least:

W: (Width): 894 px

W.: (Height): 708 px

Resolution: 300 (px/inch)

Action 2

Open the starting drawing "Forest", using the command "Move" (Move Tool) transfer it to the previously created new document, if necessary, then transform it. Press the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl + T) and to maintain the proportions, hold down Shift. Arrange the picture as shown in the photo.

Action 3

Change the initial drawing “Forest” into a smart object, for this, right-click on the layer with the forest and select “Convert to smart object” (Create Smart Object).

To add depth to the future drawing, apply the Gaussian Blur filter. Go to Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur (Filter – Blur-Gaussian Blur) and set the blur radius to 8.2px.

Action 4

Select the Brush tool. The brush is soft, the color is black. In the tool settings, set to 30% “Opacity” (Opacity) and “Push” (Flow). Being on the layer mask of the Gaussian Blur filter, the blur is removed. The photo below shows the area:

As a result, depth was formed in the future drawing:

Action 5

Add a Brightness/Contrast adjustment layer, apply a shape that hides the other image so that only the clipping mask outlines remain visible, in other words, you need to attach the Brightness/Contrast adjustment layer to the forest layer. It is necessary to hold down the key (Alt) and move the mouse between the Brightness / Contrast adjustment layer and the forest layer. Then left click. As a result, the corrective layer is tied to the layer with the forest.

Set the brightness - 62 and contrast - 46

Action 6

Add a Color Balance Adjustment Layer and use the Create Clipping Mask with it.

After completing the previous step, where adjustment layers were added, the following indicators are used for shadows (Shadow): set for red - 19, green - 7, blue +7. For midtones: red - 24, green - 21, blue +5. For light (Highlights): red - 15, green - 10, blue - 2.

The result is:

Action 7

In this action, you need to reduce the amount of yellow tint in the picture. In this case, an adjustment is used. To do this, select the command “Selective color correction” (Selective Color) and apply “Clipping mask” (Create Clipping Mask).

The settings panel looks like this: yellow - 19, cyan - 100%, magenta - 4%, black is not used and set - 0.

The result is:

Action 8

The next step adds a special nebula. To do this, open the starting image "Nebula" and using the tool "Move" (Move Tool) move it to the main document, using the key combination (Ctrl + T) transform it.

To maintain proportions, hold down the Shift button, apply a picture:

Before we see how special the used nebula looks like, rename the layer to Nebula, lower the Opacity to 33%, and transform the blending order to Screen:

Action 9

Add a Hua/Saturation adjustment layer to the Nebula and apply a Clipping Mask. Indicators color tone- 92, saturation - 13. Establish a mark on the "Toning" (Colorize) command.

Action 10

Open the PSD file with a raven, select any object you like, then place it on the main document. For a more realistic picture of the crow inscribing, apply the Gaussian Blur filter (Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur).

Action 11

Let's move on to creating a light source. Create another "Light Source" layer using the button combination (CTRL + SHIFT + ALT + N). Select "Brush" (Brush Tool). Make it soft using the settings "Opacity" and "Press" (Flow) up to 50%. Change the foreground color palette to (#1b3a5d) and create a beam of light. This can be seen in the figure below:

Change the drawing order for the Light Source layer to Linear Dodge, and lower the Opacity to 88%.

Action 12

At this stage, you need to add the "starry4" texture that is contained in the set to the picture and add it using the "Move" tool to the main document and position it so that only half is visible. The figure below shows what it looks like:

To eliminate the black background and harmoniously fit the texture in the picture, you need to change the texture overlay order to "Screen" (Screen):

Let's move on to changing the color of the texture. Add an adjustment layer “Hue / Saturation” (Hue / Saturation), then apply a “Clipping Mask” to this layer.

In this case, the saturation index is 100:

To complete the picture, add a couple of burning objects, create a new layer "Glow 2". Select "Brush" (Brush Tool). Make it soft, the color is white, as in the picture:

Action 14

Add an outer glow "Glow 2". This can be done by clicking on the layer with the left mouse button 2 times and using the following dimensions “Outer Glow” (Outer Glow) – lightening the basics (Color Dodge), opacity (Opacity) – 54%, color (# 166082), size (Size) : 32px.

Duplicate the “Glow 2” layer with the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl + J) and place the glowing dot in different places our document, where you see fit. Preliminary result, which should turn out:

Action 15

It's time to add a deer to the dark forest. To do this, you need to open the main image and use the tools to select and extract the image and place it on the main document. Change, this requires a key combination (Ctrl + T). To maintain proportions, hold down the Shift button. Arrange the picture as shown below:

The lower limbs of the animal are masked using a layer mask. This is necessary to create a realistic effect of a deer standing in the grass:

Action 16

Next, you need to create an external sensation of a shadow falling on the grass. The natural beam of light is directed at the back of the animal, hence the shadow will fall from its lower limbs. A new layer "Shadow" is formed, it is located above the layer with the animal. Select "Brush" (Brush Tool). Make it soft, color black, set the level "Opacity" and "Push" to 30%, then apply a shadow as in the figure:

Action 17

Reduce the brightness of the animal drawing, add a corrective layer “Hue / Saturation” (Hua / Saturation), change the “Saturation” indicator to – 34. You must use “Clipping mask” (Create Clipping Mask) to the layer with the deer.

Action 18

At this stage, the brightness indicators of the deer and the main picture differ. To do this, add a correction layer “Curves” (Curves), while applying “Clipping mask” (Create Clipping Mask) to the layer with a deer.

The result is:

Action 19

For a harmonious fit, the image is changed and the “Color Balance” of the deer is added in order to fit it even better. The following tone indicators are used: red - 20, green - 17, blue - 15; for halftones: red - 29, green - 3, blue +12. For light: red + 11, green +7, blue +6. In this case, apply “Clipping mask” (Create Clipping Mask) to the layer with the deer.

As a result:

Action 20

Form another layer on top of all "Lighting", in the color palette change the tone in the foreground to (#2b5463). Select "Brush". Make it soft, set the level "Opacity" and "Press" to 30%, push a natural light source falling on the back of the animal as in the picture:

Transform the order of applying the Lighting layers to Linear Dodge and reduce the Opacity to 55%.

As you can see in the picture, the deer fits perfectly into the main image.

Action 21

We repeat action number 11. Brush color (#1d506d), "Forest lighting" layer

Action 22

Change the stacking order of the “Forest Lighting” layers to “Replacing Light” (Lighten) and reduce the “Opacity” to 66%

Action 23

We begin the final adjustment of the picture by adding a corrective layer “Gradient Map” (Gradient Map). 1 click on the gradient color bar and adjust the specified colors: from left (#000000) to right (#143d4e) (from black to dark blue).

Change the blending order of the Gradient Map to Color Dodge to make the gradient lighter.

Action 24

Add a correction layer "Selective color correction" (Selective Color) and set up the following parameters: the settings panel looks like this (color - green): yellow - 100%, cyan - 100%, magenta - 100%, black is not used and set to 0.

The settings panel looks like this (color - yellow): yellow - 5%, cyan - 13%, magenta - 26%, black is not used and set - 0.

This is necessary to eliminate the extra green color.

As a result:

Action 25

Add a layer to adjust "Brightness / Contrast" with indicators: brightness - 67, contrast - 32, opacity up to 64%.

Immediately add a correction layer “Color Search» (Color Lookup). It is important to note that the preset was used here: "Kodak 5218 Kodak 2383". For those who don't use Photoshop version CC recommend achieving similar results by lowering the Opacity level for the Color Lookup adjustment layer to 55%.

After using adjustment layers, the result is:

Action 26

And in the end, using corrective layers, add the final "Brightness / Contrast" with indicators: brightness - 49, contrast - 1.

As a result:

Action 27

Being on the last adjustment layer "Brightness / Contrast" you need to get rid of unnecessary shades, for this go to the layer mask of the adjustment layer and select "Brush". Make it soft, set the "Opacity" and "Push" to 30%, the color is black, this will save the bright lights of light in the center of the image:

As a result:

Action 28

If you want to make less glowing lights, you do not need to take the "Brush" again, but just place the cursor on the "Brightness / Contrast" layer mask and double-click the left mouse button. A window appears:

Decrease "Density" (Density) from 100% to 65%, drag the slider to the left. Decreasing the density causes the color to change from black to grey.

Let's look at the final result of our work:

As you can see, the brightness in the center of the picture is reduced, using the layer mask density. If a

Sometimes one gets the impression that it is in winter that the magic button “Create a masterpiece” appears on the camera. Especially if it snowed the night before, and the trees in the park are wrapped in beautiful snow caps. Beautiful, isn't it?

Winter photos are breathtaking. But taking pictures during a snowfall is not very convenient. And I want the snowball to not only lie around with a soft blanket in the captured picture, but also spin in the air. Here Photoshop comes to the rescue, where you can create realistic falling snow.

Using this image of a girl on a winter background as an example, we will add floating snow to the composition.

How to make snow in Photoshop - flying snowflakes in the photo

So let's get started:

  • Let's create a new empty layer in any convenient way. By clicking on the icon for creating a new layer, or by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Shift+N.

  • Take a round soft white brush and put dots on the image randomly. To get the snow effect in Photoshop, the brush size needs to be changed. Future snowflakes will then not be the same.

  • So that the snow in the photo in Photoshop does not seem so unnaturally round, we will blur it and give the snowflakes the effect of movement. Go to the menu: "Filter" - "Blur" - "Motion Blur". We choose the strength of the blur and the angle of movement, guided by our own taste. Play around with the settings and find the settings that best suit your image.

For the larger snowflakes that are flying close to the camera, create another layer and draw some larger snowflakes in the same way. We repeat the steps as for the first layer, only with different parameters for the strength and direction of the blur.

The next step is to create the snow texture.

For this step, solving the problem of how to make snow in Photoshop, you need to download a picture with snow on a black background from the network. We transfer it to our working document as a smart object.

  • Choose: "file / place". The image with snow will appear in our document, now we need to stretch it so that it covers the entire image.
  • Remember to hold down the Alt key while transforming as you stretch the image so that the proportions of the snowflakes remain natural and do not deform.
  • Change the Blending Mode from Normal to " Screen».
  • Let's hide some of the snowflakes, for which we create a mask on this layer, and with a black brush we remove the snowflakes from the lips and chin of the model.

I wonder how to make snow in Photoshop? Daochen simple! We created realistic snow in just a few steps.

Method two, how to create snow in Photoshop

In the second method of how to add snow in Photoshop, we will use the same image of a girl and make it more dynamic and attractive with the help of falling snow. Unfortunately, the author who took this photo is unknown. You can use your own photo or download any suitable for creating a similar effect from free photobanks.

Using the Noise Tools When Making Snow

So let's get started:

  • We open original image, press Ctrl+O to open it to the entire workspace.
  • Let's create a new layer: press the Latin key D to reset the colors to default.
  • Press Alt+Backspace to fill this layer with black.
  • Apply the Noise/Add Noise filter to this layer. We put approximately 100-120% distribution according to Gauss and mark the item "Monochrome". We press "OK".

  • Then apply the "Imitation" / "dry brush" filter to this layer. For the version of Photoshop CS6, we go along the path "Filter" / "Filter Gallery" / "Imitation" / "Dry Brush". By changing the brush size, we get more or less snowflakes, depending on the brush settings. Set the brush size to 2, detail to 0, and texture to 1.

Now, if you enlarge the image, you will get falling snow - realistic snowflakes, just like in nature. You will not find the same here, they all differ in size and shape.

Now, by pressing the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + J, duplicate this layer. On the first one we will create the foreground snowflakes, on the second - the background. Hide the visibility of the second layer and work on the top layer for now.

To get rid of the black background, change the blending mode to Lighten or Screen. And the black background becomes transparent - invisible.

The snowflakes don't need to be so sharp, so we'll blur them a little "gaussian". We will set the radius to about 1-1.5 pixels, depending on the image.

Dynamics of movement - snowflakes flying in different directions

Now our snowflakes need to create some kind of movement dynamics, since in Photoshop you need to make snow realistic and dynamic. If you use the Motion Blur filter, it will blur all the snowflakes at an angle that we set. We will go the other way and create the effect of snowflakes flying randomly in different directions, as in nature:

  • Let's first convert this layer into a Smart Object so that we can edit it. Go to the menu - "Filter" / "Distortion" / "Wave".
  • "Number of generators" set to 1, type - "Triangle". “Repeat boundary pixels” is set by default, but with the “Wavelength”, “Amplitude” and “Scale” settings, you can play around and choose the ones that suit your image.

Now all the snowflakes are flying in different directions. If you don't like the result, then double-clicking on the "Wave" line under the "smart object" layer will open the dialog box for this filter again, which you can edit.

Getting rid of unwanted artifacts in the image

If you pay attention, unnatural stripes will appear along the edges of the image after applying this filter, you can get rid of them simply by stretching the layer with snowflakes beyond the edges of the main image. To do this, press the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl + T to call the free transform tool, and with the Alt key held down, stretch the image so that the stripes along the edges go beyond its borders. If a warning window appears stating that smart filters will be temporarily disabled, confirm the action.

We make an adjustment layer “Levels” - create a sending mask for it and, moving the middle and left sliders, adjust the number and brightness of snowflakes.

We pass to the second, while hidden, layer, make it visible, repeat all the steps, as for the first, with the only difference that the background snowflakes should be smaller and blurry.

Then you need to create a layer mask on this layer and with a soft round brush of black color hide the snowflakes from the model so that it looks as natural as possible. And also reduce the opacity of the layer to 60-70%.

Now you know how to make snow in Photoshop. Here's what we got. Creative success to you - try, train!
