Israel is a modern and technologically advanced country. Here, in an amazing way, ancient, ancient customs and modern achievements of world and Israeli science, medicine, and technological progress coexist together. - a country where modernity and antiquity intersect in the most incredible way. Today, the achievements of Israeli scientists in medicine, mechanical engineering, electronics, aircraft engineering, telecommunications and communications are appreciated all over the world. One of the most developed industries in Israel is mobile (cellular) communications. There are several mobile operators in the country: Pelephone, Mears, Celcom and Orange in Israel.

The first place in the number of using cellular subscribers is occupied by mobile operator Orange in Israel. It accounts for more than 50% of subscribers, to be exact, 59% of all subscribers in the country. In second place among mobile operators in Israel is Celcom, with 36%, Pelefon is third with another 21%, and Mirs is fourth with 2%.

The main concept of work mobile operators Israel is a focus on regular customers. It should be added that cellular communication clients in Israel can be served on credit, payment of the bill of such a subscriber can be made at the end of the month. For regular customers of mobile communication companies, operators offer a wide variety of promotions and favorable rates. That is why a tourist who arrived in Israel for a short period of time cannot be served at the usual rate of cellular operators in that country, since in order to sign a contract with a cellular operator, you need an open account in one of them and an agreement is required between the mobile operator and the subscriber for service.

If a tourist arrives in Israel for a longer period, then for profitable conversations on a mobile phone, it is recommended to rent a mobile phone and pay by card, as offered by a mobile operator in Israel, Selk, you can buy a local SIM card, or you can transfer funds with a credit card for negotiations. How to purchase a SIM card, how phones are serviced, or how local contracts are drawn up can be found directly at the representative offices of mobile operators, as well as on the official websites of mobile operators in.

The best option for using a mobile phone is to use prepaid. Such a system is offered by the Orange operator in Israel, as well as most other mobile operators.

How much does a sim card cost? The cost of a SIM card primarily depends on the mobile operator and can range from 25-30 dollars. A phone card can be purchased for a minimum of $75 and up to $200. If we talk about the cost of cellular communications in Israel, then it is 0.15 dollars per minute of conversation. Almost all incoming calls are not charged, and if you call at a certain time, for example, from eight in the evening to eight in the morning, then most operators provide a significant discount on the cost of calls within 20%. That is, at this time, a minute of conversations on a mobile phone is 20% cheaper.

For all major representative mobile operators of the former Soviet Union or CIS countries, roaming in Israel is available. So, for roaming, the cost of one minute of calls can be 1.5-2 dollars, the cost of a minute of calls also depends on the mobile operator in Israel.

If a trip to Israel, for whatever reason, does not involve a large number of calls to the country where the tourist came from, then, of course, the best options would be to use ordinary payphones installed in every city and village in Israel for communication. Tariffs in these pay phones are relatively low, and cards for paying for pay phones are sold at almost every corner. Small Israeli shops install pay phones in which you can pay for conversations not with cards, but with small change.

As for cellular communications in Israel and its operators, there are four main operators in this market segment, these are the operators that we have already presented at the beginning of the article.

The first mobile operator in the country was Pelephone. This communication program was founded in 1986. She became a joint brainchild of such monsters - the concerns of Motorola and Bezek. And the name of the mobile operator Pelefon is a contamination of the word Pele and the word telephone. From Hebrew, this is translated very interestingly - “miracle”. Pelephone is already rather a common name for a cellular telephone, generally accepted and quite common. And if in Russia or Ukraine a mobile phone is called a “mobile” or “cellular”, then in Israel it is a pelephone.

The second mobile operator in Israel is the mobile operator Selcom. This is a completely Israeli company that was founded in 1994. Today Celcom has more than 3 million subscribers and 79% of the shares and securities of MBR. Located on 30 service centers, 360 sales outlets for Celcom products, and more than 3,000 employees. The shares of the mobile operator Selcom are issued on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, as well as on the New York Stock Exchange. The controlling stake is held by the Israeli millionaire Noha Dankner.

The third company representing Israeli mobile (cellular) communication operators in Israel is the well-known company Mirs. Mirs in Israel controls only 10% of the country's cellular market. Mears uses iDEN technology in his work. A feature of Mears is that the mobile operator provides walkie-talkie-type cellular services. This service costs 5 dollars a day, without a time limit, this service is provided mainly for production purposes. The mobile operator Mirs has its own trademark "Amigo".

And another mobile operator that represents cellular communications in Israel is the Orange mobile operator in Israel. Telecommunications company Orange in Israel today is the youngest cellular company in the country. But, this does not prevent the young company in the country's cellular communications market from being popular among customers. The company is popular due to a wide variety of programs and promotions that are provided to customers. Today there are a lot of them, these programs are provided to pensioners and students, military personnel and policemen, and so on. At the head of the company is the CEO of Orange in Israel - David Avner. David Avner has been CEO of Orange since 2008. I must say that Israel is a country that ranks first in the world in terms of the number of cell phones per capita.

Which connection is better to use, which is the most profitable? These questions are often heard from tourists who are going to Israel. What operators do local residents use?

Many stalls and shops right at the airport, in cities with cell operators Selkom, Orange in Israel, or Pelephone offer to buy a TALKMAN SIM card, which costs $15. Sellers will be happy to help you buy a card to replenish your account. After acquiring such cards, the cost of domestic calls within Israel will be 0.75 shekels per minute, plus about 10 agarot minutes, and an SMS, for example, to Russia will cost 1 shekel.

As we have already written directly to Russia or Ukraine, it is better not to call. A minute of conversation will cost 7-8 shekels, if necessary, it is better to send SMS messages. If, however, an idea arose to call, and you urgently want to do this, then it would be more correct to purchase a card for intercity calls at the post office or in Russian bookstores. For a relatively low cost - 70-80 shekels, you can talk for 300 minutes, and it is also recommended to call Russia by landline phones, this can be done from a hotel room or a pay phone on the street. In this case, you do not need to pay extra for communication. You can also make calls from a mobile phone using a purchased card for long-distance calls.

A novelty at Orange in Israel is a special profitable proposition for students - unlimited calls and SMS, plus a 2 GB Internet package for only 109 shekels or a 5 GB Internet package for 119 shekels.

However, Israeli operators have one main feature- They focus exclusively on regular customers. And all the privileges and promotions, as well as a wide variety of favorable rates with very attractive services - all for regular customers.

Mobile Operator Orange in Israel offers such SIM cards that include free 10-15 minutes. Inside Israel, the cost of a call will be about 0.15 US dollars, and in the evening it will decrease by as much as 20%.

In a word, cellular communication in Israel is not only a well-developed telecommunications sector, it fully corresponds to the level of European and American countries and even in many respects outstrips well-known telecommunication companies in terms of new developments and services offered to subscribers.

Israel occupies one of the first places in the world in terms of the number of residents with individual access to the Internet. For a tourist, this fact only means that, with the exception of tourist areas (Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Netanya, Haifa, Eilat), it is extremely difficult to find a public Internet cafe, even in large cities.

At the same time, Internet access points (Wi-Fi) operate at airports, at large railway stations, on trains, in large shopping centers. In this case, Internet access is free. Also free access there are on public beaches in Haifa, Tel Aviv, Nahariya. However, its speed is very low, and the reception is unstable.
Hotels and restaurants also provide guests with Wi-Fi - most often free of charge, but the administrator must be asked for a password to enter the network.

All mobile operators offer to buy a 3G modem and a SIM card, through which you can connect to the Internet throughout the coverage area mobile network. At the same time, the minimum cost of the "modem + Internet for 5GB" package is at least 400 ILS.

cellular

Cellular communication is well developed in Israel, not only corresponding to the level of the countries of Western Europe and America, but also in many ways ahead in terms of new developments and the service offered. The main telecom operators are Orange (www.orange.co.il/rus), Celcom (www.cellcom.channel.co.il/russian), Pelephone (www.pelephone.co.il/ru) . However, over the past two years, new operators have appeared on the market: Golantelecom (www.golantelecom.co.il/web/), HOT Mobile (www.hotmobile.co.il), Home Cellular (www.homecellular .co.il/), "Rami Levy Tikshoret" (www.rami-levy.co.il), "YouPhone" (www.youphone.co.il).

A feature of the Israeli communications market is the exclusive orientation of the inhabitants of Israel: contracts are concluded with reference to the local credit card according to the system of postpaid calls at the end of the month. For regular customers it is offered big number a variety of tariffs with very attractive prices and services. However, it is very problematic for a foreign tourist who arrived in Israel on a short visit and does not have an account with a local bank to join such programs.

The way out is SIM card tariffs with prepaid tariffs. They are offered by Celcom (Talkman), Orange (Big Talk) and YouPhone (PreTalk). No local bank account or ID is required to purchase these SIM cards. Cards of the first two companies can be bought at any store that sells cell phones, as well as at the offices of companies located in all major shopping centers in the country, as well as at Ben Gurion Airport. PreTalk cards are sold at gas stations, Mega supermarkets, post offices and some newsstands.

The standard cost of Big Talk and Tolkman is 50 ILS, of which 40 is credited to the account. You can top up with prepaid cards or simply by depositing money into the account through an employee of the Celcom and Orange offices, as well as at currency exchange and sale points cell phone. The minimum amount to replenish an account is 60 shekels. Prepaid cards have a face value of 50, 75, 125, 200 shekels. Cost of calls within Israel: incoming free of charge, outgoing
PreTalk pricing starts at , including 60 minutes of local calls, but is limited to 30 days. The price varies depending on the number of days that the card will be valid and the number of minutes included. Recently, the Orange company is also gradually transferring Big Talk to a similar system.

Roaming is available for all major Russian operators connections. The cost of a minute of conversation with Russia depends on tariff plan and operator.

Telephone communications

It is very well developed, you can call abroad from any phone, including street payphones that work with magnetic cards (" telecards"), purchased at post offices (cost: 10, 20, 30, 50, 120 NIS). The average cost of a call to Russia from a telephone booth varies from $0.80 to $1.20 depending on the time of day. Calls from 20.00 to 08.00 cheaper.

Small shops have coin-operated pay phones. The tariff is per minute, the preferential tariff is valid from 20.00 to 08.00. Different telephone companies have different tariffs and sometimes very much, so you should first familiarize yourself with the prices. A call from a hotel is much more expensive than from a public pay phone.

The international country code is 972. To call Israel, you need to dial - 8 - 10 - 972 - area code - number of the called subscriber. When dialing from a mobile phone - + 972 - area code - subscriber number (in case of a call to a mobile phone in Israel - + 972 - cell phone number).

The French company Orange Telecom has announced its readiness to withdraw its brand from the Israeli market, which has led to accusations of anti-Semitism and that the company is actually joining the boycott of Israel, which is called for by various leftist organizations around the world. The Israeli government has already demanded an apology from the companies, and the statement itself became the reason for calls to boycott Orange not only in Israel, but throughout the world.

French telecommunications company Orange released a statement Thursday evening in an attempt to tone down some of the tension after its CEO, Stephane Richard, unexpectedly announced that he was ready to move his brand out of Israel “even tomorrow”, but this is prevented by a number of conditions in the contract concluded by Orange with Israeli Partner Communications. Mr. Richard made this remark while speaking at a press conference in Cairo.

The words of the CEO of the company immediately caused a storm of protest in Israel. The Israeli Foreign Ministry held an urgent meeting, the Israeli ambassador in Paris demanded an official explanation from the French authorities (they own a 25% stake in France Telecom, Orange's parent company). Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu himself said that Israel will not forget this "absurd drama" and called on the French government to publicly "condemn this wretched statement and the wretched actions of a company under partial state control."

Orange itself does not operate in Israel, but has licensed its brand to local operator Partner Communications. Recently it license agreement was extended for another ten years.

The reaction of the Israelis is understandable: right now, calls for a boycott of Israel are growing in the world, in FIFA, Palestine and its allies tried, unsuccessfully, however, to suspend Israel's membership in the international football organization. In addition, Mr. Richard made his statement in Cairo, the Arab capital, which, of course, could not go unnoticed. In Egypt, Orange owns the local operator Mobinil.

In a statement Thursday, the company attempted to correct its CEO's faux pas. Recalling that the company does not operate in Israel, Orange said that the licensing agreement with Partner was concluded in 2000, before Orange was acquired by France Telecom, that is, under the previous management of the company. According to the company, the agreement with Partner is the only long-term agreement of its kind that the company has. And this agreement is contrary to Orange's brand development strategy, in which the company does not want to maintain the existence of the brand in countries in which it does not operate directly. Because, the statement says, the company "would like to eventually terminate its license agreement," but in full compliance with existing agreements and contracts. The statement also says that the company, of course, does not take part in any political disputes and this decision has nothing to do with politics.

The statement, however, did not have much effect on the mood in Israel. There is a growing campaign to boycott Orange. True, the only victim of this campaign may be Partner Communications, which, according to a local correspondent for The New York Times, has already begun to lose customers. Partner Communication CEO Chaim Romano has already said in this regard that the company intends to file a lawsuit demanding that Orange pay "financial losses and damage caused to the company." Partner Communications is part of the international telecommunications holding Saban, and therefore the battle between Partner and Orange, if it happens, will not at all resemble the fight between David and Goliath, but will be a battle between two sides that are quite equal in strength.

Communication, along with the possibility of free movement, is one of our main needs today. One way or another, most of the life of a modern person is associated with constant communication in society - both in personal life and in professional life, with the constant provision or receipt of various kinds of information. That is why today it is simply necessary to be able to be always in touch, moreover, at an adequate and affordable price for us.

So let's start over

There are three major cellular providers in Israel - these are the companies " cellcom», « Orange" and " Pelephone". The latter is the "oldest" of them, it was with it that the cellular communication market in the country once began. Over the entire period of its existence, it has been very useful for the shareholders of these companies, given that the average bill for a cellular line was between 150 and 350 shekels until 2012. (However, there were also particularly “active” months during which the author of these lines paid 500-600 shekels).

Why only until 2012? Because this year was a turning point in the history of Israeli cellular communications. New "virtual" operators have appeared in the country - such as " GolanTelecom" and " HotMobile”, which began to offer unlimited packages worth up to 100 shekels per month. Since that memorable day, hundreds of thousands of customers have simply switched with their number to new operators, fortunately, this has been possible since 2011. Later, several more "virtual operators" appeared, they have a less significant market share, so we will not focus on them.

What do we have in the cellular communication market today?

The three major cellular companies have very similar offers at around NIS 100 per month for packages with unlimited calls and SMS throughout the country. In addition, a certain quota is given for international calls on the landlines and several gigabytes of Internet, after the use of which either an additional fee is taken or its speed is reduced.

So, for 109 shekels in the company " Pelephone» you can get unlimited calls, SMS and up to 1 gigabyte of internet. In company " Orange» unlimited calls and SMS and from 500 megabytes to 3 gigabytes of Internet will cost from 126 to 165 shekels per month (although in addition bonuses are offered in the form of discounts on home telephone lines, TV channels and international calls). In company " cellcom» customers are offered unlimited calls and SMS plus 2 gigabytes of internet for 79 shekels.

« GolanTelecom” is a relatively new operator, it has been on the Israeli market since 2012. The motto of this company, which invariably attracts attention, is “Stop being a fraer!” - encourages customers not to pay big money for something that costs less. It is worth noting that Golan Telecom started out as a "virtual" operator, but this moment already has its own cellular infrastructure.

Today, Golan Telecom offers free access to the first three months of connection to the network. The subsequent fee will be 99 NIS for unlimited calls within Israel, SMS and MMS, Internet (up to 3 gigabytes, then the speed decreases) and unlimited calls abroad to certain countries to landlines. The company also has other tariffs - 9.99 and 50 shekels per month for a certain communication quota.

« HotMobile” is also a relatively new operator in Israel. It appeared in 2012 and offered relatively cheap rates - from 49.90 shekels per month for unlimited calls and SMS within the country plus home Internet up to 100 megabytes and unlimited calls to 31 countries (from a certain list of countries, including Russia, the USA, Germany, but not, for example, Ukraine and Belarus), as well as up to 69.90, including all kinds of communication services of the company. True, these tariffs are valid for 5 months from the date of connection, after which the price automatically increases to 99.99 shekels per month. Under the same programs, you can take another line, costing 29.90 in the first four months.

Lyrical digression

Using all modern forms of communication, I increasingly come to the conclusion that most of my communication today is carried out via the Internet. All my friends and acquaintances have a page in some social network, everyone is constantly texting each other, reading statuses, commenting on events, and the need for telephone conversations is gradually fading away. Even meetings today are most often agreed on the Internet - and, you see, this is very convenient.

Why then do you need phone calls? Basically, it is connected with work or some daily activities. Personally, I have a quantity telephone conversations per last years decreased by at least half. I suppose that in a few years the phone will be used more like a minicomputer with the Internet. However, this situation can be observed in some of us today.

Which connection should tourists choose?

For tourists, there are two main prepaid cellular programs - “ talk man'('Cellcom') and ' bigtalk"("Orange") . Since these prepaid programs are used mainly by tourists, the cost of a call is significantly higher than the usual tariffs intended for Israelis. So, in "Cellcom Talkman » the cost of one minute of conversation will cost 1.15-1.19 shekels, SMS - 67 agorot, and in Orange Bigtalk you will be charged 1.22 shekels per minute of conversation, 68 agorot per SMS and 4.04 shekels per 1 megabyte of Internet.

In both cases, you need to buy a SIM card and a prepaid card. A SIM card can be purchased at retail outlets of mobile operators or at ordinary kiosks, it costs about 40-50 shekels. When you buy a SIM card, you get an Israeli phone number where you can be called. Let me remind you that all incoming calls in Israel are free.

In addition to buying a SIM card, you have the opportunity to purchase a prepaid card of various nominations. Both companies have time-limited cards: for example, for 139 shekels at Cellcom and at Orange, you can buy a card for unlimited calls and SMS and 1 gigabyte of internet. A 7-day card for unlimited calls and SMS plus 500 megabytes of Internet in the Orange network will cost you 50 shekels. A weekly card at Cellcom costs one shekel less - but it only has 250 megabytes of internet.

In Cellcom's Talkman software for active users Internet there is also a card with a nomination of 10 gigabytes for a month for 129 shekels. However, I think it is intended for people like me: those who are sure that the Internet in the phone is more important than the phone itself.

Summing up

I want to say the following: at this stage, it is not so important for the Israelis which particular cellular company to buy the opportunity to be always in touch with. In most cases, within a few months, the price "settles down" to about 100 shekels per month for unlimited calls and SMS, including from 1 to 3 gigabytes of Internet. The only advantage of large companies is their reliability, as well as the fact that you will always have the opportunity to contact the nearest physical service center for any questions that arise.

I will add that all mobile operators have easy-to-google sites where you can see information about all the offers and choose what best suits your lifestyle and the way you communicate with the outside world. Just do not forget to thoroughly study all the conditions of the programs and be sure to read what is written in small letters at the end of the form on which you put your signature. It is very convenient that all the information on these sites is offered both in Hebrew and in Russian.

Of course, everything written by me is my personal opinion based on my life experience in Israel, my own perception of the world, as well as information obtained from the network. When choosing your provider, you will, of course, make the final decision. It is best to do this after you have received the most useful and relevant information for you.

In principle, a relatively unlimited connection for 100 shekels per month is, you see, very good :)
