It has ceased to close, do not rush to pick up a hammer and nails. There are simpler and effective ways how to close a window sash. But to start window cases, the masters are advised to find out the reason.

What to do if the plastic window does not close?

So, an unfortunate nuisance happened - your plastic window jammed. Why? Outside the window is not the month of May, and it is urgent to correct the situation.

It's easy to do it yourself when:

  • The handle is locked and the window is open in two positions.
  • The window sash sagged and caught on the edges of the frame.
  • Foreign objects "interfere" with the window sash.

But in the event of a serious breakdown of window fittings or in order to adjust the windows, hurry up to call a specialist. In this situation, you should not do the repair of a plastic window with your own hands.

How to close a plastic window: instructions for use

If the handle of the plastic window is jammed ...

First of all, check if the handle is in an “ambiguous” position - double opening is typical for a tilt-and-turn window. In this mode, your plastic window is on one hinge, but do not rush to apply force.

Your actions:

1. Find the lock at the end of the sash - this is a spring element that is pressed automatically when fully closed.

2. Press the blocker and, holding it, turn up the handle of the plastic window.

3. Lean the upper/lower edge of the sash against the frame by turning the handle down and close the window.

If in the future you always turn the window handle with the sash tightly closed, the double opening of the plastic window will not happen again.

How to fix a window if the sash sagged ...

When symmetry is broken, the window sash sags, clinging to the plastic window frame from below or from the sides with its edges. Lift it up, aligning the edges of the sash, and press firmly against the frame - your window should close immediately.

This is a common case for a plastic window that is opened more often than others. You can prevent and repair the sash with a simple adjustment - all window fittings periodically need it.

Easy do-it-yourself plastic window adjustment

To adjust the window sash, remove the decorative plastic trims from the hinges. On the upper and lower ends (sometimes on the side) there are adjusting elements - holes for a screwdriver, asterisk or hexagon. Pick up the tool and carefully twist every detail.

It is easy to check the correct adjustment of the window: if the sash began to open and close without effort, then this is enough. Don't forget to install the plastic lining back on the window.

It is enough to carry out this operation every few years to prevent the sash from “slipping”.

The fixing of the plastic window is in order, but the sash does not close ...

Open the sash and carefully inspect the inner perimeter of the window frame. Remove foreign objects.

Perhaps, on the street side, the design of the plastic window has a water-removing protective strip. Sometimes it can move and, resting against the frame, interfere with the hermetic closing of the sash.

If, for example, you washed a plastic window and then could not close it, the most likely reason is the displacement of the drainage bar. Carefully align the bar along the bottom edge of the window profile and slap it back into place. Now you can try again to close the plastic window.

  • If, despite your efforts, the plastic window does not close and blows out of it, urgently call specialists. Remember that replacing window fittings will then cost several times more.
  • Even the best fittings for plastic windows require periodic (every few years) cleaning, lubrication and adjustment. Check once every six months the normal course of window handles and hinges for prevention.

In the section of the Catalog of building goods and services “Windows. Window constructions” You can purchase all the necessary window materials, accessories for plastic windows and find the coordinates of specialized companies.

Sourced from the Internet

A normally functioning plastic window provides almost complete sealing of the room. When properly adjusted, the fittings ensure that the sashes are pressed against the frame, and the position of the sashes is controlled by means of a handle located on the frame. If a situation arises in which your plastic window does not close, you need to find out the cause of this phenomenon, and only then try to eliminate it. Fortunately, most of the problems that arise with plastic windows can be fixed on your own.

Most often, problems with windows occur due to errors in operation and insufficient care. Less commonly, this is due to the wear of the window system, the consequences of improper installation or factory defects. Consider the most common problems, as well as ways to overcome these problems with the help of available tools.

The sash is warped

As a result of skew, a gap may form between the sash and the frame, into which air from the street will penetrate. In addition, the skew will not allow the sash to fall into place. The sash will simply cling to the side or to the lower ledge of the fixed frame.

To eliminate distortion, change the angle of the sash, moving it in a vertical or horizontal plane. For this, adjusting screws are provided, located on the lower and upper hinges of the sash. Remove the protective pads from the hinges of the sash, under which you will find holes for a hexagon or an asterisk key. By turning the adjusting screws, achieve normal closing of the sash and eliminate the gap. The lower loop is adjustable in two planes, the upper one may either have no adjustment at all, or be adjusted only for shifting to the right and left.

The sash does not fit snugly against the frame

The plastic window does not close tightly in case of loss of its elastic properties, as well as due to a failure in the adjustment of the pressure eccentrics:

  • Seals should be regularly cleaned and lubricated with silicone grease.. In the absence of such care, the seals will lose their elasticity after 5-6 years, crack and begin to let air into the room. If this happens, purchase new seals, and install them in place of the damaged ones. To do this, remove the old seals, clean the grooves, and then install new rubber or silicone;
  • Eccentrics can be installed in 2 positions: "Summer" and "Winter". In the "Summer" position, the pressure between the sash and the frame is not so tight that it can cause trouble in winter. To install the eccentrics in the desired position, it is enough to turn them 90 degrees with pliers, an asterisk key or a hexagon, depending on the type of fittings. After that, a tighter clamp will be provided. After the end of the cold weather, do not forget to set the eccentrics to their original position. Eccentrics are located at the ends of the opening doors.

The handle is jammed in the upper, reclining position

If the plastic window does not close from the ventilation mode, probable cause there may be an exit from the grooves of the fittings element called "Scissors". Thanks to this element, the sash opens in the ventilation mode. The handle is in the locked state. When tilting and opening the window at the same time, there is a risk of breaking out the lower hinge, since the weight falls only on it. Therefore, do not throw the sash in this position, but try to cover it.

Tip: If you feel resistance when turning the knob, do not apply physical force to it. This will definitely lead to more damage.

The troubleshooting procedure is as follows:

  • remove the sash from the frame. To do this, remove the trim from the top hinge, pull the hinge pin down with a knife or screwdriver, and then pull it out with your hand or pliers;
  • Carefully remove the sash from the bottom hinge. To do this, lift it up a little;
  • put the sash on the floor with the bottom side;
  • find the grooves into which the "scissors" should enter and install them in these grooves. This may require pressing the lock on the end of the sash and turning the handle;
  • check the operation of the handle. It should turn freely in all directions when the blocker is pressed;
  • install the sash in reverse order, driving the top pin with a hammer.

Tip: Sometimes flying "scissors" can be installed in their places without removing the sash, if the slopes do not interfere, and there is a place on top of the sash.

The sash opened at the same time for plowing and for ventilation

This situation can occur if the handle is set to the "Plowing" position, and it is moved up to the ventilation mode. The sash both leans back and swings open at the same time. In this case, the handle is blocked. This does not mean at all that the plastic window has broken - its handle does not close. It's just that the sash is in a position in which it is impossible to close it.

Fixing the problem is very simple:

  • handle is vertical. Press the sash against the frame in the upper corner. She will fall into place;
  • press the lock on the sash;
  • move the handle to the open position (opening);
  • close the sash.

This process is clearly demonstrated in the video.

Sash handle jammed in the "Closed" position

If the plastic window does not close - the handle does not turn, stopping in the closed or open position, then this could happen due to an untimely actuated sash lock. You should press the blocker towards the seal with your hand, and then move the handle to the normal position. After that, the window can be closed normally.

There are times when the blocker slips past the stop with which it should engage. The reason for this is the thermal expansion of materials. It is necessary to unscrew the stop from the frame, put some kind of gasket under it, and then screw it into place. If there has been a displacement of the sash, in which the blocker does not reach the stop, or vice versa, rests against it, it is necessary to move the stop in the vertical plane.

If you want to know what happens, then we have a separate article on this topic. It describes the types of components and their popular manufacturers.

The handle does not turn or does not reach the end position

If there are difficulties with turning the handle, then often this is due to the drying of the lubricant on the fittings. If your window is already several years old, then such a refusal should not surprise you. Try to make through the special holes located on the top and sides of the sash. You can use any liquid lubricant or oil, but top scores will give silicone lubricant. After lubrication, you need to work with the handle to evenly distribute the lubricant over the fittings. This should help if the reason that the handle does not turn all the way was only in the lubricant.

The situation is complicated by the ongoing repairs, during which dust and debris get inside the sash. If the fittings are clogged with dirt and dust, then lubrication will not save it. A complete disassembly of the sash and flushing of the fittings will be required. To do this, call the masters.

Check if the handle works when the sash is open. If in this case the plastic window does not close: the handle does not turn down, then the reason lies in the breakdown of the fittings. Will have to call a specialist. If it works, then check if the eccentric located at the end of the sash rests against the pressure pad on the frame. Most likely, this is what prevents the handle from closing. Move the platform or window sash up or down.

Loose or broken window handle

When the window handle dangles in its nest, and the plastic window does not close - what to do in this case? The fact is that with a loose handle, the fittings do not mate with the handle stem, therefore it is impossible to control the handle. Tighten the handle fasteners. To do this, rotate the decorative cap located at its base by 90 degrees. There will be 2 screws, which should be tightened with a Phillips screwdriver. After that, the plug must be installed in place.

In case of breakage of the handle, it is necessary to completely unscrew the screws holding it, and then remove the old handle from its place. Installing a new handle is not difficult. Simply install it into the hole on the sash, then tighten it with screws. You may also need to replace the handle if you choose to install a lockable handle.

Situations where it does not close are rare. This was either exploited for a long time, or the window was assembled poorly. That is, in any case, the main reason is a malfunction of the structure itself and the failure of one of the parts. But what to do if it does not close is a question that worries many ordinary people who seek to solve this problem on their own. Therefore, first of all, you need to familiarize yourself with the causes of the problem and figure out how to eliminate them.

Read in the article

How to repair plastic windows with your own hands

If the window has been in operation for a long time, then, whether we like it or not, its parts and assemblies will gradually lose their original technical qualities. But it also happens that a window was recently installed, and it stops opening or closing. What could be the reason?

There are many reasons, and in order to find the necessary one, which does not allow opening or closing, you need to know the structure of plastic windows. That is, what mechanisms and details can affect its quality operation. Therefore, we will consider the main causes and methods for their elimination.

Attention! The technology of assembling a plastic window at the factory includes adjusting the sashes to align them in the frame opening. But installers should additionally check the correct assembly by adjusting the sashes. This is what they must do.

Sagging sash

This is the most common problem. In fact, a gap is formed between the window sash and the frame through which air from the street will penetrate into the rooms. In winter, this will be felt especially sharply. At the same time, the open sash will never close, because it will rest against the window frame with its lower edge.

Correcting this situation is not very difficult. To do this, you need to carry out a number of simple manipulations.

  1. Protective strips are removed from the hinges of the sash, closing the hinges from dust and dirt.
  2. There is a hole in the upper end of the hinge, inside of which there is an adjusting screw. It can be shaped like a hexagon, a Phillips or a straight screwdriver.
  3. A tool is inserted into it, suitable for the head, which rotates clockwise. In this way, the sash is raised. If the rotation is carried out counterclockwise, the sash is lowered.
  4. You need to turn the screw one turn, check how the closure occurs. If it fails to close, you must continue to turn the screw, periodically checking the sash for closing until it closes tightly.

Adjustment can be carried out with one lower hinge, with which you can move the sash up, down, left to right. But the top can be unregulated or regulate movement only from side to side. As you can see, setting up a plastic window with your own hands is not the most difficult process.

It should be added that some models of plastic windows are equipped with special mechanisms with which you can adjust without touching the hinges. They are located at the upper hinge from the upper end of the sash. There is also an adjustment screw with a hex hole where the key is inserted. This mechanism makes it possible to move the sash from side to side.

To understand what we are talking about, watch a video on how to adjust a plastic window if it does not close well:

The sash does not fit tightly to the frame

Most often, the cause of this problem is the sealing elements located in the sash and on the window frame, which are compressed when closing, tightly pressing against the planes of the frame. These are special rubber gaskets inserted into the groove of the sash and frame structure. At the same time, seals are installed around the entire perimeter of the closing planes, thereby ensuring a tighter closing of the plastic window.

At the request of manufacturers, in order for the seals to work for a long time, they must be lubricated periodically with silicone grease. True, consumers do not pay attention to this, so rubber products will work for a maximum of 5-6 years. After that, they will decrease in size, crack and begin to pass air through themselves from the side of the street.

Solving this problem is simple - you need to replace the old gaskets with new ones, since they are sold in stores by the footage.

  1. The required quantity is purchased, after which the product is cut to the required length, corresponding to the length of the profiles (vertical and horizontal).
  2. The resulting segments are inserted into the grooves on the profiles, each in the corresponding length of the profile.

The eccentric is in the wrong position

Modern plastic windows require more complex adjustment and repair. For example, some manufacturers offer models that have a special mechanism called an eccentric. With its help, the tightness of the sashes to the frame profiles is adjusted depending on the temperature outside.

Therefore, experts call the two positions of the eccentric as "summer" and "winter". In the first case, the fit density is not very large, which reduces the tightness of the window structure. And if in winter the position is not transferred to the “winter” position, then cold air will penetrate into the premises through leaks.

Translation is very easy. It is necessary to find an eccentric on the end part of the sash and rotate it about the axis by 90 °. It looks like a round hat, in which a turnkey hexagonal hole is made. If such a tool is not available, then you can use ordinary pliers. The mechanism itself turns easily.

Attention! On the hat there is a mark in the form of a slot (risks), which can be taken as the basis for controlling the turn. “Summer” is when the risk is horizontal, “Winter” when it looks down.

Drainage bar blocking

Sometimes it happens that the closing mechanism works, but the sash still does not close. The reason is the drainage bar, which has shifted relative to its place. It is located outside parallel to the window. It must be installed in place, this problem is solved.

Casement handle problems - how to open a plastic window

The closing mechanism, connected to the handle, is subjected to the greatest loads, and also intensive ones. Therefore, over time, its parts fail.

Attention! If the handle is stuck in any position, then do not apply much force to it, this can lead to more serious problems.

Handle stuck in up position

This window position is for ventilation. That is, the handle "looks" up and does not move, the sash is ajar at the top. What are the options for repairing plastic windows with your own hands in this particular situation. There are two of them:

  • The simplest - the blocker does not work. This device is in every design of a plastic window. solved this problem simply. It is necessary to open the sash completely, press the blocker to a vertical position, it is located in its end part, and turn the handle 180 ° down.

  • The handle does not turn from the ventilation position because the scissors located at the top of the window structure are jammed. They have another blocker that opens by pressing a special button. Last in different models scissors is located in different places. But the essence of its action is the same for everyone - a simple push down.

It should be noted that during the intensive use of the scissors, the upper plane of the button may wear out to such an extent that the protrusion on the adjacent part of the mechanism cannot press it all the way, which leads to blocking of the handle. In this case, you can do it in two ways:

  1. Change scissors for new ones completely.
  2. Remove the button with pliers so that it stops interfering.

Watch the video on how to do it right:

Handle stuck in down position

This situation is when the sash is closed, that is, the window does not open. First of all, it must be opened, and only then look for problems in the closing mechanism. This is done simply:

  • you need to put your fingers between the sash and the frame in the area of \u200b\u200bthe upper hinge;
  • pull the sash or yourself, immediately turning the handle;
  • usually it immediately turns and the window opens.

The first reason why the handle jammed may be an eccentric. In some modifications of fittings for plastic windows, it is not a round shape, but an oval one. If the oval is turned at a small angle, then it immediately wedged in the groove of the striker plate. Therefore, the solution to this problem is to put the eccentric correctly - vertically.

The second reason why the plastic window does not open is the blocker. He just jumped off the fence. That is, it should be located on the inside, closest to the room, but it turned out to be on the outside, closer to the street. There is an opening, but it is insignificant - 2 ÷ 3 cm. What needs to be done. Before you open a plastic window, you need to understand that this is a prefabricated structure, consisting of many parts and assemblies, which are fastened together with screws. This is what helps to repair metal-plastic windows. Therefore, in this case, the sequence of operations performed is as follows:

  1. It is necessary to remove the blocker from the sash. To do this, two self-tapping screws are unscrewed with a screwdriver, which hold the device at the end of the sash structure.
  2. Then the latter will open completely.
  3. The blocker is reinstalled relative to the stop (limiter) and is attached to the window with the same self-tapping screws.

The handle turns with force

There is only one reason here - the closing mechanism is clogged with dirt or the grease has dried up over the years. There are no problems with lubrication. At the end of the sash there are holes that have access to the closing mechanism. It is necessary to add technical oil to them by turning the handle from side to side.

If this does not help, then the mechanism is completely clogged with dirt, which does not allow it to move. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to clean the mechanism with your own hands. Therefore, in this case, it is recommended to call the wizard.

The handle is broken or loose

If a backlash just appeared, then you need to tighten the handle mounts. To do this, it is necessary to rotate the plug, which is located at the base of the handle, by 90 °. Underneath are two screws. They need to be tightened with a screwdriver.

If the handle is broken, then you need to do everything in the same way. Only the screws are not screwed in, but unscrewed completely. After that, the device is pulled out and replaced with a new one with screws.

Attention! The new handle is inserted into the socket in exactly the same position as the old one was pulled out. That is, usually the latter is pulled out in a horizontal position, which means that a new one must be inserted in the same way - horizontally.

PVC window maintenance rules

In order for the fittings of plastic windows to work flawlessly, very small technological gaps are left between the details of the mechanisms. That is why, so that the gaps do not increase to critical values over time, it is necessary to carry out prevention. First of all, this concerns the tilt-and-turn mechanism for plastic windows. It must be kept clean and lubricated at least once a year.

Indoor humidity is another factor that affects the lifespan. It should not exceed 55%. Therefore, well-functioning ventilation must be organized in the house. Additionally, 2-3 times a day it is necessary to carry out airing.

As for the maintenance itself, for this you will have to acquire some means for the care of PVC windows:

  1. Means for washing glasses.
  2. For plastic processing.
  3. Silicone grease or preparations that can be used to treat rubber seals.
  4. Technical oil for the lubrication of mechanisms.

Attention! Plastic cannot be wiped with preparations that contain acids. Experts recommend cleaning it with soapy water.

It is necessary to periodically clean the drainage channels, mechanisms. Frequency 1-2 times a year. The seals are cleaned when the double-glazed windows are washed. But they should be lubricated with silicone or glycerin 2 times a year.

Recommendations of specialists for the maintenance and repair of metal-plastic windows

It is always necessary to treat PVC windows with care. That's what it is main advice. Even at the stage of their installation, it is necessary to look after the craftsmen so that they do not knock on the structure with iron tools, do not “scrabble” and do not make dents. The protective film is removed after all installation work.

Sooner or later, many users have a question about how to close the program if it does not close. In fact, the topic is not so simple. After all, frozen applications are a huge problem for users. They not only load the operating system and processor, but also interfere with normal work with the computer. The following are the best tips and tricks on what to do if you can't close an application.

How to determine that the program is frozen

Before racking their brains for an answer to the question of how to close the program if it does not close, the user must understand whether the application is really frozen. It is likely that the computer's performance leaves much to be desired, and the "close" command is simply being processed for a long time.

As a rule, if the application freezes, it stops responding to user actions, the cursor turns into either an hourglass or a small circle (depending on operating system), and the title of the app will say "Not Responding". At the same time, all attempts to terminate work with the program in the usual way (by clicking on the cross in the upper right corner of the screen) do not produce results. Also, when you click on the workspace of the program, the screen is "covered with fog". All these are signs of a freeze. How to close the program if it won't close? Best Tips and recommendations will be presented below.

Expectation

The first tip is to wait a bit. Do not forget that the computer has a certain power. When the processor is loaded and random access memory OS speed slows down. And it takes more time to process the operation.

Accordingly, you will have to wait a bit. If the computer takes a long time to respond to the actions performed in the program, all signs of its freezing are observed. The waiting period should not exceed 5-10 minutes. If after this time there are no responses to user actions, you can proceed to other methods of shutting down.

Method 1: hotkeys

So, it turned out that the program is not responding. How to close a frozen program? If the expectation fails, the user must choose one or another course of action. You can press some keys on the keyboard, as well as their combination.

When the program hangs, it is suggested to click on:

  • Ctrl+W
  • Alt+F4.

These combinations contribute to the emergency closure of many hung programs. Not the most efficient, but the way it works. But this is only the beginning. There are several more options.

Method 2: through the menu

How to close the program if it won't close? The following technique works more often than a keyboard shortcut. Users use it in practice with notable success. To close a frozen application, you can call up the action menu with the program, and then select the appropriate function there.

For this you need:

  1. Move the cursor over the program window on the taskbar.
  2. Click on the relevant application right click mice.
  3. Select "Close Window" from the menu that appears. If the system issues a warning, accept it.
  4. Wait a while.

As a rule, after the actions taken, the program closes on its own after 10-15 seconds. If a this way did not help, no need to panic. You can try other methods. Fortunately, Windows provides quite a few ways to close applications.

Method 3: Task Manager

What exactly? How can I close the program if it hangs? When the listed methods fail, the user is prompted to proceed in a slightly different way. For example, call the task manager, and then terminate the process launched by a particular program.

This method is the most efficient. It allows you to urgently close almost any program. Doesn't work in some cases. Therefore, users often prefer it.

How to close a program that is frozen or not responding? This requires:

  1. Click on combination Ctrl keys+ Alt + Del. Or Ctrl + Shift + Esc will do.
  2. Select "Task Manager" in the window that appears. If you used a combination with "Shift", this step can be skipped. The corresponding service will open immediately.
  3. Go to the Applications tab.
  4. Select the hung program and click on the "End task" or "End task" button.
  5. Accept the operating system warning (if any) and then wait a bit.

As a rule, after 5-15 seconds the program will be urgently closed. In some cases, it is proposed to send a message about the error of the corresponding application. This method can be improved a little. To do this, go to the "Task Manager" in the "Processes" tab, then select the name of the process that is running the hung program, and click on "End". This will close the application approximately 99% of the time.

Method 4: additional programs

In some situations, additional software helps. Some processes are terminated forcibly only with their help. Not the most common, but effective solution to the problem. How to close a program that is stuck? The user must download and install a special additional application to search for processes running on the computer, and then repeat the same steps as in the "Task Manager". Perfect for this undertaking Process Explorer.

How to close the program if it won't close? The user will have to:

  1. Download Process Explorer.
  2. Run the program. The application does not need to be installed, which makes users very happy.
  3. Find the desired program/process in the list on the left side of the screen.
  4. Select it by right-clicking on the corresponding line.
  5. In the menu that appears, perform the "Kill" operation.

After that, the application will be closed in an emergency. The advantage of using the program is that it displays processes and programs hidden from the standard "Task Manager".

Method 5: radical approach

How can I close the program if it hangs? The next method is radical. There is no need to hurry with it, although it is considered the simplest. The thing is that for the successful completion of programs, it is required ... to restart the operating system.

Skype won't open? How to close it? Just like all other applications. To get started, try all the methods listed above. If they did not help, then the user has no choice but to restart the computer.

Start is not recommended. After all, hung programs sometimes interfere with the implementation of the corresponding operation. Instead, you need to find the Reset button on the computer and click on it. This is an emergency reboot. This option works on desktop computers. Before using it, it is recommended to save all data in other applications. In addition, it should be borne in mind that the constant restart of the computer does not have the best effect on the performance of the device.

Method 6: for laptops

Now it’s clear how to close a program that has hung. With examples of actions in a particular case, the user could easily get acquainted. Detailed Instructions will help solve the problem.

What to do if all the previously listed methods do not help, and the person does not work for desktop computer, but behind a laptop? Or if for a number of reasons the operating system refuses to reboot even after clicking on Reset?

In this case, you need to urgently shut down the operating system. But before that, save all the data on the computer. Next, press the button to turn on the laptop (or computer) and hold it for about 5-10 seconds. The operating system will shut down. Then you can turn on the computer and work with it further.

The disadvantage of this method of action is its danger to the device. Frequent emergency shutdown leads to operating system failures and hardware malfunctions. This step will not solve the problem with freezing programs. Therefore, you can use it only as a last resort.

The reader should already understand how to force close a program on Windows. All of the above methods help to bring the idea to life without much difficulty. What are some tips to help avoid app freezes next time?

Among them, the following recommendations are most often found:

  1. Make sure that it is the program that has hung, and not the computer. The list of actions in one case or another will be different. Most often, when a computer freezes, an emergency reboot or shutdown helps.
  2. Check your computer for viruses. Treat it if necessary.
  3. Reinstall the hanging program. Sometimes this method is very effective.
  4. Do not open many programs and applications when working with problematic software. The less the processor is loaded, the faster certain operations will be performed on it.
  5. Learn to wait. As already mentioned, sometimes processes just take a long time to process. And so it starts to seem like computer program hung up.
  6. Try all of the above methods. It is recommended to postpone restarting and shutting down the computer as a last resort.

That's all. In fact, there is nothing difficult in terminating a hung program. All of these methods are successfully used by PC users to one degree or another.

Plastic windows are an indispensable thing in every home. They are practical, comfortable, beautiful and easy to use. But sometimes there are problems with them. It happens that the plastic window does not close. But this problem can most often be solved by yourself without the help of a master.

Reasons for not closing the plastic window

The main causes of damage to plastic windows are either incorrect installation and operation, or in low-quality material. But if nothing can be done about the product, then the first problem is easy to deal with.

To begin with, it is important to ensure that the installation is carried out in accordance with the requirements and instructions, and you also need to operate the window correctly.

If over time it stops closing, there is nothing terrible about it, just any product requires more and more careful care over time.

There are such reasons why windows may not close:

  1. Sagging of the sash due to which it clings to the frame and does not allow the window to close completely.
  2. The sash flies off the top mount and rests only on the bottom.
  3. The handle does not turn all the way, turns with difficulty and creaks, gets stuck in one position.
  4. There is a small space between the sash and the window, which leads to incomplete closure.
  5. The loosening of the mechanism.
  6. Water drain blocking.

All these reasons lead to the breakage of the window, but it is quite easy to fix it yourself.

What to do if the plastic window does not close

  1. To do this, it is necessary to remove the decorative coating from them and find special gaps in the upper and lower end sides of the hinges.
  2. They can be made for a hex or Phillips screwdriver.
  3. Each such adjusting screw should be slightly tightened. by 1-2 mm, this is usually sufficient.

Then you need to close and open the window, if the problem is gone and it is completely closed, then everything is done correctly.

Video:

If the sash flies off the mount

This problem arises due to the fact that when the window is closed, the sash is loosely pressed and the mechanism, as it were, remains in the middle position between “full opening” and “ventilation”. This indicates that the window was not properly closed. The fix is very simple.

It is enough to turn the handle parallel to the window sill, press the sash firmly against the frame and lower the handle down. Now try to open the window in both positions.

But here's what to do if, with such a maneuver, the problem remains unresolved and upper corner gone? The reason for this is the departure of the "scissors" from the grooves.

You can restore them in the following way:

  • turn the handle up if it is not possible to press the blocker towards you and repeat the turn;
  • at this moment, you need to follow the movements of the "scissors" while rotating the handle;
  • adjust the state of the "scissors" so that they fit into the grooves intended for them without problems;
  • release the blocker and check if the handle works.

Sometimes, to carry out such a procedure, the sash needs to be removed from the hinges. To do this, remove the plastic pads and press the hinge pin with a tool. But this measure is not always necessary.

Handle jamming

Sometimes the handle of a plastic window does not turn completely or turns with difficulty and does not reach the final destination, and sometimes it stops altogether in one position. This happens due to a malfunction of the blocker located at the bottom of the closing block.

It is necessary to press the blocker and turn the handle up, then press on the upper edge of the window and lower the handle, close the sash. Reopen it and check if it works.

What to do if the problem remains? Sometimes such a problem can also arise due to the drying of the internal mechanism. It is quite simple to lubricate it, for this there are special holes on the sides and top of the sash. But it is best to lubricate them with silicone oil or machine oil.

In no case should you pour alcohol or acetone, as well as butter or petroleum jelly, as this will only exacerbate the problem.

Window not fully closed

Everything here is pretty elementary. And the problem is not in the mechanism, but in operation. If, when closing the window, you loosely press it against the frame and at the same time turn the handle, then it can slip past the grooves, thereby leaving a small space. The conclusion suggests itself - press the window tighter when closed, there will be no problem.

What else can be done to make plastic windows close tighter? Also, the cause of a loose fit of the sash can be position of the eccentrics.

These are special devices on both edges of the sash, which are configured for the "Summer" and "Winter" modes.

In the first case, the clamp is less dense than in the second. To fix this, just turn them 90˚ with a hexagon or pliers and then the sash will fit snugly against the frame.

Handle does not turn

Sometimes the mechanism begins to hold weakly due to the fittings not docking with the stem, and then it becomes almost impossible to control the handle. You can fix this by tightening the fasteners.

To do this, rotate the plug located at the base of the window handle by 90 degrees. Behind it there will be two screws, which must be tightened tightly with a screwdriver (Phillips or regular).

Then the plug returns to its original position. If after that the problem has not disappeared, then the handle will have to be replaced with a new one. To do this, just unscrew its screws, and insert other new handles in their place.

Pledge of long-term work of plastic windows

If you follow simple precautions when operating plastic windows, they will serve you much longer, and the master will have to be called much less often.

For this it is important:

  1. Window installation must be carried out by specially trained people, according to the instructions.
  2. You need to buy double-glazed windows only from trusted companies that you trust.
  3. When closing the window, do not apply much pressure on the handle, so as not to damage its mechanism.
  4. Do not hang things (clothes, curtains, bedspreads) on the open sash.
  5. Once a year, carry out a preventive inspection for damage to the mechanism and lubricate its components.
  6. Try not to apply mechanical damage(scratches, dents, bumps, cracks).
  7. Give the mechanism a rest. With a long open position, the hinges have a large load, so it is not recommended to keep the window on “ventilation” for a long time.
  8. Make sure that dust and dirt do not get into the mechanism (especially during repairs) and clean it in a timely manner.
  9. If the window is closed for a long time (most often in winter), sometimes you need to open it for a second so that the mechanism does not stagnate.

If you follow all the above tips, plastic windows will serve you for decades.

And although it is quite simple to fix minor breakdowns yourself, remember, if the window is under warranty, it is better to call the wizard. In this case, you can save your strength and money (repair under warranty is free) and save your purchase from more trouble if you are not a master in repair matters.
