I usually write about photography, music, and communication apps, but today we're talking about a trip to the store. Or, to be more precise, about shopping lists.

I must say right away that until recently, this topic was alien to me. Usually, when I “raided” stores of various kinds, I did without such lists, because I remembered the “necessities” that were absent in the household, and bought everything else based on my momentary need, desire or idea. By and large, I decided what to buy right in the store. This purchase option did not bother me in the least, since I know well what a budget is, and I won’t buy anything extra. Yes, and I usually do not buy much at a time, preferring to go to the store every day and take exactly one time. This is a perennial habit of a pseudo-fresh product.

But it so happened that for the last 2 months, I was very limited in movement, so I remembered a long-forgotten method of shopping - ordering through online stores. And here, whatever one may say, little by little and often it is inconvenient to buy, and not profitable. That's when shopping lists came to me, planning ahead and e.t.c., e.t.c., e.t.c, ...

As a result, after 5-6 weeks of training, they formed a certain habit. This is probably why, while looking through the sales in AppZapp, my eyes settled on Shopping To-Do Pro.

What I noted in it is interesting:

  1. It is easy and convenient to create shopping lists that are visually displayed on the desktop of the program, showing the first names of the list.
  2. Possibility of calculation of the planned purchase. You can set the cost of the item per piece / kg, including an incomplete unit (0.5 kg or something similar), immediately receiving the cost of a particular purchase, as well as the total amount of the entire list. For a paper worm like me, who is used to a planned economy, this is a huge plus for the application. And I also note that the list has not only total, but also a subtotal.
  3. When one of the items is purchased, we remove it from the list by checking the box. At the same time, a pencil flies out with a nice animation and crosses out the position. And the subtotal becomes less by the amount of the purchase. Again, a plus for clarity from lovers of the language of numbers.
  4. The presence of a reminder function. Something also from the category of planning. You can set the exact day + time, and the application will remind you of itself with a pop-up window and sound. For me, this feature is almost useless, but the presence of reminders is not superfluous.
  5. Well, the last plus is just a great design. Successful stylization of shabby notebook, nice animation. All together causes (for me) the subconscious pleasure of working with this application.

But there is something that upset:

  1. Lack of any synchronization. This is very bad. So I can't put the app on two (or more) different devices and coordinate your purchases with someone close or friends. There is not even an elementary possibility to send the list by e-mail. A kind of application in itself, for a very lonely person or a misanthrope. Although a closed user would probably like to be able to synchronize at least with his computer.
  2. There are absolutely no settings. Looking into the settings you will find only a small window for entering the tax. In our penates, the thing is useless.

That's actually all. On the this moment the application is distributed free of charge, but during the normal period its price is only $0.99.

However, having decided to look for something alternative to Shopping To-Do Pro, I went through several paid and free apps and I liked ShopShop — Shopping List

What's good about it:

  1. Unlike Shoping To-Do, in ShopShop we have good synchronization options: via dropbox, as well as sending a list by e-mail and sms. Plus, the list can be sent to a printer. And what is convenient: if some positions are already “crossed out from the list”, in the sent message, they will be “ticked” opposite them.
  2. Purchased items are crossed out with a flick of a finger or a tap. After that, they can be cleaned from the list by shaking the iPhone (set in the settings)
  3. Decent, for such an application, settings (again, in the reproach of Shopping To-Do), where you can set auto-lock, enable or disable synchronization, font size, number of saved entries and other minor needs.
  4. Shopping lists are implemented as iPhone desktops, flipped through in the traditional way for the device. Each list can be given a personal name and color.
  5. Availability of the Russian version

Well, now a little about the cons of the application:

  1. There is no possibility to enter a price for a position, and accordingly there is no amount. So the list is just a normal list, no calculation.
  2. Office design, flat, boring. Although everything is organized clearly, simply and conveniently, it is somehow sad for me to use it.

I compared two shopping list apps. In fact, there are dozens of such applications. About some (such as "Buy a loaf" and "Shopping") they wrote and talked a lot. We all (including me) still do not know about some. But even judging by these two, we see a variety of functionality and appearance, a choice for every taste. There is imperfection in both.

Well, as always, the choice is yours.

Not everyone active users of the regular program "" on iPhone, iPad and Mac computers know that it is possible to share lists of reminders with family members and friends. The problem is not even that users are inattentive, but that Apple has made the feature rather obscure, although it is definitely popular.

How do I accept an invitation to access the reminder list?

Going to the store for shopping for some people turns into a pleasant pastime, and for others a torture, to which they usually go voluntarily and regularly. The difference between the first and second can be not only gender, but also purely practical. Some prescribe their shopping plan clearly and in advance, others run from rack to rack, forgetting to buy one thing or another. I have always considered myself to be in the second category of people who do not know how to plan their purchases, which is why I often came home with packages of unnecessary things and without bread. Yes, what is there to dissemble, I still cannot plan my expenses and incomes, however, I managed with one thing - the shopping list is now one of the most convenient and familiar things for me. And not because I became more conscious, rather the opposite - I found the easiest way not to forget anything, called "String bag".

What is the main thing for those who use smartphones as a shopping list? Convenience. This is what I found in Avoska. Someone will name me a lot of existing alternatives from App Store, but you will understand why I stopped at this option.

String bag allows you to create completely different lists, naming them at least "Products home", though "Don't forget to put it in your suitcase".

The first thing to do - "Add List" by clicking the plus sign. The application will ask you to title it (here you can show your imagination) and save it.

Further, everything is even simpler - products, goods or services are added. Avoska has a fairly wide database of goods, sorted by department. So, for example, if you add a position "lightly salted salmon", it automatically falls into the department "Fish and seafood" and highlighted in blue. Fruits and vegetables are sorted according to the same principle, but they will already be bright green. Ah, raw meat and poultry will turn a dark cherry color. This is very convenient when moving around a huge hypermarket, where only the transitions between departments take several minutes.

But back to adding positions. A large database offers many ready-made options for the name of products, from which you can choose the one you need, or you can enter your own - String bag it won't be removed. The only thing that can happen to an “unidentified” product is moving it to the end of the list and highlighting it with a standard gray color.

In addition to the name of the products, you can add the exact amount (in grams), add your own comment and select the department in which the product is located. The latter in case of some non-standard case mentioned above.

What usually happens in the store? In the hands of a basket for groceries or a cart on wheels, which you have to carry in front of you, and then you have to look at the list and cross out what you bought. FROM Avoska it can all be done with one hand.

Swipe right crosses out the selected item and moves it to the end of the list. Swipe left generally removes a line from the list, as obviously unnecessary.

But if the user made a mistake and accidentally crossed out or deleted desired position, shaking will undo the last action.

The completed list can be sent to e-mail, send via SMS or print. True, for the latter you will have to have a printer with the appropriate AirPrint capability at hand, and the first two options are very convenient and easy to use in everyday life.

If a for a long time use the same list, for example "Buy Home", then the list of crossed-out positions becomes very, very impressive. For quick cleaning in the lower left corner there is basket. By clicking on it, all crossed-out products will sink into oblivion.

Another convenience shopping bags is an indicator on the application icon. If there are unfinished tasks or unpurchased goods in the lists, then a red label with the exact number of forgotten items will light up on the icon. A kind of analogue of the cross on the hand: I looked - I remembered.

For a long time using the application, I managed to get used to its bright interface and no longer notice any flaws. The only thing I would like to see is synchronization between devices and the ability to add the estimated price of a product or service.
