We have been following the Xiaomi brand and its latest developments for a long time, among which we want to highlight the Xiaomi Smart RearView Mirror. It comes with a fairly large 8.88-inch display with a resolution of 1920 × 480, supports 16,700 thousand colors, consists of seven mirror layers with an optical coating, a uniform distribution of incoming and reflected light. Judging by the description, you probably already understand that this is not an ordinary mirror, but a screen that provides for many interesting features, which we will be happy to tell you about.

Device specifications

The M1 measures 303.8mm x 76mm x 40mm and weighs 393g including clips. It contains four nuclear processor with a MediaTek MT8665 chip clocked at 1.5 GHz. The device also uses an OmniVision 2718 model sensor, a 370 mAh battery. Its operating temperature is not lower than -20 and not higher than +70 degrees.

It should be noted that Smart RearView Mirror has a volume internal memory is 16 GB, there is the possibility of using microSD, but not more than 64 GB, and 2G, 3G, 4G, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, BLE & FM connectivity is also available.

Description of smart mirror

We were satisfied that the device comes in a black case with a touch screen and a camera on the back. Anyway, what color car you install it in, the black surface will fit into any interior design.

For us DVR Xiaomi Smart RearView Mirror has become an indispensable assistant on the road, thanks to its new flagship intelligent voice interaction, which controls most of the device's functions. If you think that this will interfere with the driver's driving, then you are mistaken, since speech can be stopped at any time when needed.

Additionally, a map created specifically for the vehicle is integrated into the smart mirror. It is able to satisfy a large number of requests. So, we made sure that the map easily switches to the display mode and changes the trajectory of movement to the destination.

What makes this model stand out is that it has an integrated ADAS system that supports FCW, PVS and LDW. Once we were driving along the highway, and on the contrary, a cool jeep was flying at breakneck speed. The driver clearly did not calculate his strength and the car simply skidded into the oncoming lane. Our smart mirror immediately let us know about the critical situation on the road, and we were able to avoid a collision. And how many times did it tell us that we crossed a double continuous lane, thereby allowing us to turn right in time and not violate traffic rules.

By the way, the system allows you to archive the video of the accident before and after the accident. The picture of the event can be played back in the rearview mirror itself or through the application in the smartphone online.

Thus, thanks to built-in sensors this model Xiaomi collects information from outside and inside and warns if there is a danger. In turn, a high quality lens allows you to get ultra-clear pictures. An OV 1 / 2.9 image sensor is integrated into the mirror, equipped with high resolution, thanks to which we record very high-quality video (080P/30FPS) even in poor lighting conditions.

Xiaomi smart device has a 4 in 1 mixed cooling system that provides high thermal protection. Hot air inside the car is passed through the copper. Thermal silica gel contributes to the increase in the speed of the process, and to enhance the effect, the developer provided graphene, which allows expanding the cooling area.

Specifications

conclusions

For those who miss driving, the smart mirror entertains with good music, audio books, top shows, etc. About 20 different categories are available to the driver and his passengers.

But most of all we liked that the Mi Home system can be connected to the device to control appliances at home.

It is worth mentioning that the smart mirror is equipped with custom software from Android, which significantly expands the range of useful functions available on this device. Xiaomi Smart RearView Mirror we purchased for 10 thousand rubles, but if you're lucky, you can buy the device for 9 thousand. Also, see the review of the recorder in the spirit of minimalism Xiaomi Yi Car WiFi DVR 1080p.

We continue to explore Xiaomi products, and this time it will be represented by a rear-view mirror DVR. This is not the most popular form factor, but at the same time, it cannot be called unique: in the assortment of many manufacturers of automotive electronics, at least one device of this type is present.

When you open the box, inside you will find:

  • the main unit of the DVR;
  • 2 rubber bands with which it is attached over the standard rear-view mirror;
  • single cigarette lighter power adapter USB port;
  • a long USB-Micro-USB cable to power the device;
  • instructions for Chinese.

The power adapter is the simplest, with one port.

The power cable is quite long - 3.5 meters.

The instruction uses Latin and Arabic numerals only in those places where it refers to technical specifications- Wi-Fi range, android version, etc. Thus, for a user who does not know Chinese, it is practically useless.

Also included in the package is a certain plastic “tool”, which, apparently, is proposed to be used during the installation process. We never figured out how to use it, and got along just fine without any tools.

Exploitation

Control

The device is controlled by 5 buttons located under the mirror. The central button has a small protrusion on the surface so that it can be felt without looking.

If the video is playing, i.e. the screen is not off, the actions that they perform are indicated above the buttons. Actions (and indeed the image on the screen) are signed "internationally" - icons, the meaning of which, in principle, is intuitive.

This, of course, is great, but even if you guess that the most right button- this is the settings menu, then after clicking on it, pure Chinese awaits you without any hints of anything else.

Photographing a mirror surface is a thankless task, so we used screenshots from the Mi Home application, with which you can control the DVR by connecting to it via Wi-Fi - the hieroglyphs are the same there, but their image quality is much better compared to the screen photo.

However, before you can manage the device, you need to somehow connect to it. Because the this process is not without pitfalls, we will describe the main steps. We used the version of Mi Home for Android.

  • The first, easiest task is to find Mi Home in Play market and install this app.
  • On first launch, you will be asked for language and location. You can choose any language you like (Russian is present), but the location must be strictly "Mainland China" - otherwise you will not succeed.
  • Next, you will need to add the DVR plugin to Mi Home and connect to it. Dot WiFi access will be called "MiRMCam_v1_A854". To find out the password for it, go to the settings menu of the DVR (the rightmost key), find the item there that starts (begins!) With “Wi-Fi”. Select it. Under the two hieroglyphs, you will see a sequence of 8 Arabic numerals - this is the password for your point.
  • If on the main screen, in the top line, the Wi-Fi symbol is crossed out, then the access point is turned off. Go to the same menu item as described above and press the right key - Wi-Fi will turn on. It turns off in the same way, i.e. the key simply switches on / off modes.

Well, now about management. The registrar has few settings, so it’s not so difficult to figure them out, even if everything is in Chinese. Next, we will provide screenshots of the Mi Home application and (we hope) their correct translation into Russian. Translatable interface elements are placed in the list in an intuitive order: from top to bottom, from left to right. The settings menu items of the DVR itself (as it seemed to us) for the most part coincide with the Mi Home menu.

As you can see, there are really few settings - we did not find here even the most familiar ones, for example, setting the duration of one "piece" of video recording. Xiaomi has it equal to 2 minutes, and this cannot be changed. In general, Apple's concept of "we know you better" Chinese Apple»copies directly and consistently;)

All connectors are located on the top side of the device.

This is Micro-USB for power, microSD and a small "jack" where, apparently, the rear camera is connected. Explicit hints of the ability to connect a rear camera are contained in the directory structure of the microSD card, so it's safe to say that it really exists - but it was not in our kit.

The ball joint lens protrudes from the left side of the device facing the windshield.

Fastening

The mount and the principle of its operation are standard for this form factor of DVRs and, from our point of view, do not require any additional explanations.

Collaboration with other devices

If you connect the DVR to a computer using a USB-Micro-USB cable, it simply perceives this as connecting a power source. So, apparently, the device does not know how to communicate with a computer.

Field trials

The process of installing the DVR on the rear-view glass was not difficult.

One of the not-so-pleasant moments: if the driver is not tall and is forced to strongly “unscrew” the rear-view mirror towards himself, the lens hinge may not be enough to align it perfectly: as a result, the DVR will look not exactly in the center, but slightly slightly to the right.

When viewed from the side, the image on the screen is very poorly visible, and if you also take into account the fact that there are hieroglyphs, dreams of setting any parameters while driving should be buried immediately. Only through a stop, twisting the mirror towards itself, etc. Well, or through hot keys. For example, the far left turns on / off the microphone, the middle right takes a photo.

The G-sensor on the bumps of the country road worked even at low sensitivity. At the end of the test operation, we still turned it off completely.

We did not find any hints of the presence of a motion sensor.

The secrecy of the installation on the one hand is quite high ... but only if the eye does not “run into” a glare from the lens. And this is easily possible - the diameter of the first lens (or protective glass?) - about 13 mm.

Test results

HDR/WDR

We have not seen any hints of support for these functions.

Video

By default, we use for test clips a continuous fragment lasting about 2 minutes, recorded in the maximum resolution supported by the device. If the instrument uses MP4 format as a container, no conversion is performed. If MOV is used, it will be converted to MP4 without transcoding. In all other cases, the video sequence is re-encoded to MP4 with a deliberately high bitrate to avoid quality losses.

The bitrate of the original video in our case was equal to 15.9 Mbps.

The device supports only one resolution - Full HD 1920 × 1080, so we had no choice.

Now let's watch the night video.

In general, what we see is fully consistent with the phrase "average good car Full HD DVR on a Sony matrix." A nice picture, good dynamic range and colors, on the night picture there are obvious traces of noise reduction, which makes it more elegant, but at the same time killing small details. Everything is as always: a solid "four" - Xiaomi did not spoil anything, and we did not expect more from this matrix.

A photo

Photos, judging by the quality, are just screenshots from the video.

Sound

Sound is like sound. There is almost no low-frequency "buzzing". Details are heard quite clearly, even quiet. On one of the videos made during the testing process, a conversation between the driver and passengers was quite clearly audible, who drank coffee while standing outside the car in the hood area.

conclusions

On the one hand, we can say that Xiaomi MJHSJJLY01BY is a classic “installed, connected, set up once and forgot” option. This format is quite in demand, the demand for it is stable.

On the other hand, it will not be possible to completely forget, because this device does not speak Russian or even English, so any communication with him, even the most fleeting, will be accompanied by certain difficulties. For example, you will have to learn / memorize a few hieroglyphs;)

On the third, you can really “set it and forget it”, and if necessary, show someone a video of what happened - remove the card from the device, insert it into a laptop or tablet, and everything is already clear there without Chinese.

Probably, if one of us decided to take this DVR for himself, he would choose the third option. So it's somehow easier.

Separately, it is worth noting quite for a long time the device from a fully charged battery - more than an hour. True, it is not very clear how to use this feature: when the power is turned off, the DVR automatically turns off, and we did not find ways to cancel this.

Xiaomi DVR MJHSJJLY01BY in store

Another useful novelty came out from Xiaomi, this time for a car called YI Car Cam 2. As the name implies, this is a smart rearview mirror with a built-in recorder. At first glance, nothing special, there are already many such devices on the market, let's take a closer look at what it can do.

Externally, YI Car Cam 2 is made, as usual, beyond praise, a minimalist design with a durable plastic case that will protect the device from mechanical damage and temperature extremes. There is a slot for a micro SD memory card with support up to 64 GB and a separate slot for nano SIM, as well as a 3.5-inch audio output connector.
The functionality is also on top, the device has 3 cameras in its arsenal, the main one records road events in high quality FullHD with a resolution of 1920x1080, in addition to the standard functions of the registrar, this camera is able to monitor the distance about the car in front and about leaving the lane. The second camera looks into the salon, but with the quality of shooting worse at 480p, but in fact it doesn’t need more, it would only eat off the excess free place. A nice bonus is wireless camera, all with the same 480P, which can be directed anywhere, but is best used as a rear-view camera for easy parking.

Inside, a 4-core processor from MediaTek MT8665 with Cortex A53 cores and a frequency of up to 1.5 Ghz is installed. fabricated at 28 nm. technical process. This chip was specially developed for automotive on-board computers and similar equipment. The device has many built-in modules, such as: wi-fi, Bluetooth, GPS, as well as a modem for 3G and 4G networks.

Behind the mirror is a 5-inch screen with a resolution of HD 1280x720 pixels, you can display all kinds of information on navigation, speed limits on a given section of the road, current speed, display any cameras, run video and audio files on the screen. There is support voice control and many others useful features. Responsible for this functionality operating system YunOs.

The price of this Xiaomi YI Car Cam 2 is about 10,000 rubles, the price is certainly not small, but as the manufacturer assures, we get a set of functions that contribute to a more comfortable and safe car ride. How convenient it really is another question. After all, they reach for the mirror in order to switch any modes or use navigation, in my opinion this is not very convenient, besides, it will be constantly smeared with fingerprints from lovers of pasties (well, at least I have it for sure): ), but why run audio files through the mirror when all cars have modern radios with support for multiple sources, I personally do not understand. Will there be Russian language support for voice control? I'm not saying that this is a useless device, on the contrary, it has a lot of really useful and convenient features, many will like it. As for me, it’s more convenient to use a smartphone for such functionality, which is always at hand.

Xiaomi is known for its innovative designs. One of them is the Xiaomi Smart RearView Mirror. The mirror comes with a 8.8-inch large screen with a resolution of 1920×480 pixels, support for 16.7 million colors, 7 mirror layers with optical coating, balanced reflectance and light transmission. But Smart RearView Mirror is not only a screen, but many more interesting features, which we will talk about in our review.
