The audience of today's article is limited to users of the Mozilla Firefox browser who want to supplement the functionality of the Internet browser with new session management features. Session Manager, presented in this article as one of the most useful plugins, will not only simplify your browsing experience, but also save you a lot of time. Next, I will tell you how to rationally use the extension for your daily purposes.

In the screenshots, I have included all the main settings windows to clearly show the functionality of the plugin. The main tasks that Session Manager masterfully handles are restoring and saving sessions. The first and most important argument in favor of the extension is the backup of tabs in case of an emergency departure from the browser, PC freezes, any system errors causing the browser to crash. Conclusion: whatever the outcome of the case, your current session will always be saved.

Secondly, the plugin can ask before launching the browser which session you should open or launch Firefox with an empty tab. Conclusion: you will be able to create several sessions that will be used in the direction of your tasks. For example, you need to find important material, you create a session (more on this later) with several search engines, call it "Search" and in the future, by selecting this item, you will immediately switch to search services without opening each site separately.

Thirdly, the Session Manager also saves the tabs that are open when you exit the browser. In other words, you open your browser, call up any site, restart Mozilla Firefox, and the site is back in front of you. That's not all, the plugin saves sessions both with a bunch of tabs and with several windows open at the same time. In the future, you can increase the number of sessions, at least up to 100, the history will save the tabs by date, and with the help of such a simple option, you will open a session a month ago without a single loss.

Fourthly, the plugin allows you to open sessions not only when the browser is launched, but also during its operation, which means that after creating a session, you can open it at any time using the item in the menu bar ("Tools" - "Session Manager" - screenshot below). It provides options for saving, loading and restoring sessions.

So, in order to save the session for its further use, you need to open several tabs (in my case there were 20), save the session (in a group or separately), and then think about how it would be more convenient for you to open the session (immediately when you start Firefox or from the very browser in tools).

Although the plugin does not have such functions as calling a session by hot key or opening a separate window with a list of sessions, in any case, even such opportunities abound to open more than 50 tabs in one click, which is good news. I think it will be useful for many detailed description not such a useful extension at first glance. Happy using!

I think that every user is familiar with the situation when, after a crash in the browser, tabs or open pages. Of course, this is not a problem of a universal scale, however, it is not pleasant enough. However, it is realistic to prevent the problem, and for this you do not need to have any special knowledge.

As you know, Firefox browser is very popular among users from all over the world. It is very easy to use and especially valuable because there is nothing superfluous in its interface. However, if desired, the browser can be improved by downloading certain . Accordingly, I want to devote this material to such an interesting plugin as the Session Manager or, simply put, the session manager in firefox.

What is a session manager

In short, the session manager is a plugin whose main task is to restore the firefox session, as well as save it. Simply put, if the browser crashes, the system freezes, some kind of error occurs, etc., this add-on automatically saves all data. Thus, the next time you start the web browser, you don’t have to worry: the current session is guaranteed to be saved.

Installing the session manager

Downloading Session Manager is very simple, I think it makes no sense to dwell on this in detail. After downloading, you need to configure it, for this we do the following:

  1. launch Mozilla, then go to "Tools";
  2. now you need to find the line "Session Manager" - "Session Manager Settings";
  3. now set the settings as shown in the screenshot below.

After you follow these steps, the question of how to save a session in firefox will not be in front of you. Now, when you exit the browser, the plugin will remember the current session, and in order to restore the previous firefox session, you just need to restart the browser.

By the way, the add-on allows you to open a session not only when the browser starts, but also during its operation. Just go to the "Session Manager" and set desired settings in order to restore the firefox session the way you need it.

Finally, a few words about where sessions are stored in firefox. You need to open your profile in the browser, and there find the sessionstore.js file. As you may have guessed, this is where the currently open tabs and windows are displayed.

Of course, the session manager is not quite the same plugin as, for example, which each of us uses on a daily basis. However, it can be very useful if you don't want to lose important information or just want to protect yourself and your browser from unexpected errors.

Many active Internet users often have to work with many tabs at once. It might be interesting here. informational article, and news portal, and chat in social network, as well as a page with a music player or browser game. And it is very disappointing if, due to a careless movement of the mouse, the browser closes, as a result of which, the next time it is opened, all tabs are inaccessible, and they have to be searched for and reopened.

It was in order not to lose your data as a result of a crash or erroneous closing of the browser that the session manager was developed for - a special add-on that remembers the state of windows and can restore them at the user's command.

Add-on installation

As usual, all add-ons can be downloaded and installed for free from a special directory firefox extensions. In order to install the session manager, you will need:

  1. Launch browser.
  2. Open the menu by clicking on the corresponding button in top panel browser on the right side.
  3. Select "Add-ons" from the list.
  4. Enter "Session Manager" in the search bar on the page and press the "Enter" button on the keyboard.
  5. Click on the "Install" button next to the application of the same name (the first one in the list) and wait for the plugin installation to complete, which will allow us to restore the previous FireFox session.

I have prepared a small illustration for you, on which I marked all the necessary buttons so that the procedure described above does not cause you any difficulties:

Usage

Immediately after the application has been installed, you can go to its settings:

In fact, the plugin settings are not of great interest, since all the parameters necessary for comfortable work are already set there. To use the extension, you need to use the two icons that appear on the toolbar, namely the blue icon with the image of a floppy disk, and the white one with a red cross. It is with the help of these buttons that you can save and restore the Firefox session.

Important! In the browser itself home page there is already a tool that allows you to open the same tabs that were open when you closed the program the previous time. The advantage of an external session manager is that it can store not only recent open tabs, but any number of sets of pages between which the user can freely and quickly switch.

Undoubtedly, there are alternative applications that can be used to restore a Firefox session. However, Session Manager has undoubtedly more features and many settings, thanks to which you will never lose important pages with the right information. I hope now you will not have any problems with how to save a session in FireFox, and this article will be useful to you.

Yesaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay visitors of my project who use Mozilla FireFox, and especially the readers of my good old cycle on improving this browser (, part 2, part 3, ), ask me about how to remember past sessions (tabs and open sites) in the browser, like in Opera and is it even possible?

It's time to tell you about it ;) Drum roll and... Let's go.

Session Manager is a useful extension for Firefox

This is the name of this wonderful plugin, and it is precisely what it does that saves and restores the state of all windows after exiting and while entering the browser. Those who are familiar with the opera know what it is about, the rest just need to install this plugin and try it. Also, Session Manager allows you to restore accidentally closed windows and tabs.

Installation :

  • To install the addon, go to its page, namely.
  • Restart Firefox
  • Installation completed.

Setting :

We launch the browser.
Choose: Tools - Session Manager - Session manager settings.

The very minimum of settings is to set everything as in the screenshot below:

Otherwise, you can leave the settings as they are or set them at your discretion.
Done, now when you exit the browser, the plugin remembers all your sessions and automatically restores them when you start the browser again.
You can also create and save certain sessions, i.e. open tabs with a certain set of sites, save this session and then call it at your discretion or automatically when the browser starts. To do this, open the sites you need in the tabs, then select Session Manager - save session. To load a saved session select Session Manager - Download session.
By the way, after the restoration of the session, they remain in the form they were at the time of saving, even if the site has been updated, and therefore I recommend setting the item " Update all restored windows", which lives in the plugin settings on the tab Save/Restore.

FoxTab is another useful extension for Firefox

In addition to this, I would like to tell you about the plugin, which makes switching between tabs clearer, prettier and more convenient. What does it look like? Very simple, some custom interactivity is added. For example? See screenshots:

Etc...
I must say that everything is done very beautifully and is flexibly configured - you can choose the background, the number of columns and rows, the 3D display angle of the whole thing, and so on and so forth.

It works very simply:

  • or you set up a keyboard shortcut to change bookmarks (I have CTRL + scrolling the mouse wheel) and when using it, switch between bookmarks easily and clearly choosing the one you need
  • or you press a key combination (say CTRL + Q), this entire visual list pops up in front of you and you can open the desired tab with a mouse click (to make it clearer: in the first case, the visual display disappears as soon as you release the button combination, in the second it hangs until select bookmark)

In addition to the fact that everything looks visual, it has also become more convenient and faster to switch between tabs using the customizable keyboard shortcuts mentioned above.
In general, I highly recommend because it's beautiful, fast and convenient :)

Installation :

  • To install the addon, go to its page, namely here.
  • Click on the button “Add to FireFox“ (Add to FireFox)
  • In the pop-up window, wait three seconds and click the "Install" button
  • After the installation is complete, click on the " Restart Firefox” or restart your browser manually.
  • Installation completed.

Setting :

We open the browser.
And either click on the blue squares near the close button and the address bar, and then in the lower left corner click on the settings button.
Or we poke in: Tools - Add-ons - - Settings and configure.

specifically important settings there are none - customize to your taste;)

Afterword

Something like that.
Enjoy.
Everything is for you.
Because you are the best!
..so everything will be fine;)

In normal operation, the Firefox browser is able to restore open tabs on its own when restarting. But when opening a fairly large number of tabs (300-500 and more) and when using the 32bit version of the browser, closing and / or opening may fail, and instead desired tabs open a bunch of "about:blank". This is where the dancing with a tambourine begins.

In fact, even in this case, you can try to restore your tabs. To do this, go to the profile folder and carefully look at the contents. Inside there is a "sessionstore-backups" folder with at least three session backups:

recovery.js recovery.bak previous.js
There may still be old backups after automatic update browser.
If a bunch of tabs with "about:blank" have already been opened, then the latest backup copy has already been corrupted, so you need to take the previous file by date.
First you need to close the browser, but it’s better to kill its process so that you don’t write too much into your profile.
The file must be copied to root folder profile and rename it to "sessionstore.js ".
The next time you start the browser, it should pick up the file and load all the tabs.

And in order not to run around with files next time, you need to put something to automatically save sessions. I used two different plugins for this:

  • Tab Mix Plus
I'll start with the second.
Tab Mix Plus
TMP mainly specializes in all sorts of mocking tabs, but can also work as a session manager, replacing the built-in mechanism.
Its settings page looks something like this:

There is nothing unusual here. To activate the mechanism, it is enough to uncheck the topmost box, everything else will be done automatically.

session manager
But this extension has already been created specifically for saving sessions. And the settings window already looks more impressive:

From the whole variety of settings, you must immediately set the number of backups and the saving interval. Everything else is to taste.
This add-on stores backups in the "sessions" folder in the profile.
If everything is completely bad, then the "sessionstore.js" file can be restored in the same way, only before restarting the browser you need to open the file in the editor and delete something like this header at the beginning.
