The Elder Scrolls universe captivated players not only with its rich history, carefully crafted world, colorful characters, but also with the ability to customize the game completely for themselves. If desired, you can make the hero freeze while traveling through the snowy lands of Skyrim, so that he needs food and water, rest. Or maybe someone just wants to cut through the tundra on a Cossack ... There are fashions for every taste and color. But sometimes the Skyrim launcher does not see fashion. And it becomes very disappointing, because other players can improve the game ... Why does the launcher not see the mods for Skyrim and how to fix this problem?

Possible variants of the problem

There are 2 types of problems with the inability to connect mods for the game. Option one: all inscriptions are active in the launcher except for the “Files” tab itself, in this case you won’t be able to click on it. Accordingly, no modifications to the game can be connected. It looks like this.

Another option is also possible, the "Files" tab works, but the Skyrim launcher does not see the mod, the window that opens in this case is simply empty or only standard add-ons are displayed in it.

It is quite possible to solve these problems.

If the "Files" tab is not lit

If the "Files" tab is inactive and it's impossible to even see which mods can be connected, then the problem is in the SkyrimPrefs.ini folder. For the launcher to work correctly and the ability to connect mods, you need to open this document in notepad or other text editor, and then add a line in the Launcher section.

bEnableFileSelection=1

How to find given file? At standard installation game file must be in system drive(most often this is the C:\ drive), in the My Documents folder My Games\Skyrim\.

If the launcher does not see mods

In this scenario, there are 2 possible causes and, accordingly, 2 options for solving the problem.

Option 1. If the game sees standard add-ons, but not downloaded from external resources, check that the mods are installed correctly. Modifications must be installed in the Data folder, which is located in the root directory of the game. In this case, the downloaded files must be unpacked (if they were in the archive). If there is a Data folder in the folder with the downloaded mod, then you need to drop it into the Skyrim folder (where there is a Data folder with subsequent merging).

If the archive contains folders with meshes and textures, as well as files with the esp and bsa extensions, then the contents of such an archive must be extracted to the game's Data folder.

Perhaps exactly correct installation mods will allow Skyrim to see modifications.

Option 2. It is possible that the game does not see mods at all. In this case, some error occurred in the combination of the registry and file system. For example, the appearance of such a problem is possible if you renamed the folder with the game, moved it, or just some kind of failure occurred in the registry. In this case, you need to open the registry with the command Windows + r (or Start Run) write the word regedit.

You need to find the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Bethesda Softworks/Skyrim/

In the Installed Path line, the path to Skyrim is most likely incorrect. Perhaps the Skyrim launcher does not see mods for this reason. You need to specify the correct path to the game and this problem will be resolved.

Whatever the problem with Skyrim modifications, it can be solved. We hope that the methods outlined in this article helped to get rid of the problem when the Skyrim launcher does not see the mod.

many fans skyrim games sooner or later, they turn to various user modifications that make certain changes to the original gameplay. At the same time, beginners often face certain difficulties, the most important of which are the activation of add-ons in the game launch environment, as well as working with the in-game console, which is sometimes crucial for some mods.

Activate mods in the launcher

If a situation arises in which the Skyrim launcher does not see add-on files, you can refer to several ways to solve this problem.

The first way is to edit the configuration file.

The SkyrimPrefs.ini file located in the Windows document storage folder is responsible for displaying game archives in the launcher (My Documents\My Games\Skyrim\ is used by default, but the paths may vary depending on the individual user settings).

Usually this method works flawlessly, but sometimes this is not enough: the launcher still does not see the files and "Skyrim", respectively, does not register mods. In this case, editing the registry key will help.

In Win 7, the registry editor is opened through the "Run" item located in the "Start" menu. In Win 8 and above, it's easier to use Win+R.

In the line that opens, you need to enter regedit, click OK, and then in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Wow6432Node/Bethesda Softworks/Skyrim/ branch, find the Installed Path key and replace the erroneous parameter of this key with the path to the current directory of the installed game. After these manipulations, the launcher will display all the game archives and allow you to activate add-ons.

Using an alternative launcher

Another way to activate mods is to use third party programs, which not only control the launch of the game and control the installed add-ons, but also have wider and more flexible functionality. The most famous of them - Nexus mod manager and Mod Organizer.

Console interaction

It is not uncommon for console commands to help both when using various addons (for example, obtaining items from a mod), and when bypassing many game errors and bugs (restarting a looped quest, for example). But many users of the Russian localization of Skyrim input console commands on the English language initially unavailable.

How to change the language in the console? Skyrim accepts two ways:

  1. Change the default keyboard layout from Russian to English. For obvious reasons, it's not for everyone.
  2. Editing the Skyrim.ini file located in the default or user-defined document storage folder. In the file, you need to replace sConsole=RUSSIAN with sConsole=ENGLISH under the line, and after saving the changes, apply the "Read Only" attribute to the file.

The next time you start the game, the player will be able to enter console commands in English.

Skyrim is a game that occupies a large place in the Elder Scrolls universe. This is currently last game series, which has absorbed many ideas, developments and experience of developers since the days of TES: Arena. However, this does not save her from various annoying errors and bugs that players often have to deal with on their own. One of these errors is the unstable operation of the launcher, which sometimes prevents entering the settings menu or loading add-ons (if the launcher does not see the files and Skyrim starts without mods), as well as the launch of the game itself. And this can happen not only on pirated versions: owners licensed copies also not immune from such situations. There are several ways to fix these errors.

Restart Steam

As you know, the Steam client works closely with each game purchased through this service, controlling the license, player statistics, updates, etc. TES V is no exception, and sometimes this interaction leads to the Skyrim launcher "does not see the modification files and does not let you into the settings, and sometimes the game does not allow you to start, displaying the "Install" item in the main menu instead of "Game". Clicking on it usually does nothing, and the game still won't start. The problem is solved by simply restarting the Steam client with an exit from account and complete shutdown from the network.

Launching the game directly / through a third-party launcher

The previous method, unfortunately, does not always work. Therefore, in cases where the Skyrim launcher does not see the files and settings, you can start the game directly from the skyrim.exe file. True, this method is only suitable for those who play without mods. Players who cannot imagine the game without add-ons will have to use third-party programs (WryeBash, Nexus Mod Manager).

Editing game files

This method usually used when there are no problems with launching the game, but addons. The SkyrimPrefs.ini file is to blame for this, "lost" the "bEnableFileSelection=1" configuration parameter, which is located in the . To prevent the situation from happening again, the game must be prohibited from making changes to this file by setting the "Read Only" attribute on it. Find desired file can be in the game's save folder.

It will also be useful to perform certain manipulations with the registry, by running it (using the Win + R hotkeys and the "regedit" command), open the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE section and follow the path SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bethesda Softworks\Skyrim. By clicking right click mouse on the column Installed Path, select in context menu"Change", and then in the "Value" field enter the path to installed game.

It should be remembered that with the editor Windows Registry must be handled carefully, following the instructions exactly. Careless handling may result in malfunctions in Windows or even system failure.

Restoring default settings

The method is effective, but it is used quite rarely - in cases where nothing at all helps. Most often, this problem is created by the users themselves, for one reason or another, copying the folder with ready-made saves from external sources, replacing the game settings files at the same time. This is followed by the launch of "Skyrim", and the launcher does not see the game files at all. There is a compatibility issue. Solution - deleting all configuration files from the folder, and then re-launching the Skyrim launcher, which will automatically re-create them.

Despite the impressive features of the Skyrim game, I want to expand these very gaming features.

Especially for this, there are such things as mods. They give new opportunities and turn the game into something completely new. For those who have already gone through Skyrim itself up and down - that's it.

However, even a beginner should download the mod.

At least to improve the graphics, the game is not new. But there are still official add-ons that are required for installation. And now, everything seems to be fine, the mod of interest was found, downloaded, it seems even without viruses, unpacked as described on the site, and Skyrim does not change a bit. Do not rush disappointed in fashion. Just to use them, you need to configure the game itself.

To configure mods in the game, you need to go to the game launcher. Click the Files button on the menu. Here you can see a list of all available add-ons. If the mod is working and really installed correctly, it will be displayed in this menu. The simplest reason that the add-on does not work is the absence of a check mark in this menu. Remember that in front of the add-on that you want to run, you need to check the box, otherwise the program will consider that the mod does not need to be run. The order in which add-ons are loaded is also very important. It can be viewed in the same "Files" menu.

Add-ons are loaded in the same order as they are placed in the list (reading from top to bottom). From the very top, there must be three official add-ons Dragonborn, Dawnguard and Hearthfire. Next, it's best to install additions to improve textures. After the location of other mods does not really matter, however, there are add-ons that depend on other add-ons. In this case, the site should provide a list in what order they should be. Never ignore messages of this kind.

The mod itself should include several folders and a file with esp extension. That is, these three letters follow the file name. It is the file with this extension that serves as the activator for the add-on itself. If this file is missing, skyrim launcher will not see the expansion files. For the mod to work correctly, ALL the files that you downloaded must be transferred to the Data folder. It is in the game folder. It is very important that there are no folders with Russian letters on the path to the game folder - they are often incorrectly read by the program and then it cannot find anything. In general, naming folders in Cyrillic is not recommended. For any program, finding a file following Russian letters is very difficult, so it's always better to name folders in English, or at least trans lit.

There may also be a problem when the "Files" button is inactive and it is impossible to enter the add-ons menu. This problem can occur in two cases - a bad pirated build of the game, or deletion of files from the game folder. If this button was active before, then even if you can’t fix the problem, simply reinstall the game before transferring all saves to another location. Saves are stored on drive C/Users/Username/My Documents/My Games/Skyrim.

Just do not try to rename folders with Russian-language names on drive C. They are stored in computer memory under different names.

However, reinstalling the game is optional. First you need to try to fix the problem

In the same folder where the saves are stored, open a file called SkyrimPrefs.ini in Notepad. Add bEnableFileSelection=1 to the last line. If skyrim launcher does not see the files even after that, it is worth reinstalling the game. If even after reinstalling the problem remains - find another repack, this one may not be fully working.
