How to enable installation of mods for Fallout 4:
1. Download and install NMM
2. At the first start, the program will detect the game, check Fallout 4 with a green checkmark, if you already have NMM installed and you just update the NMM version, then when you start NMM from the desktop, in the game selection window, click scan the system for the game ( Rascan Installed Games) , NMM will detect Fallout 4 and also check the green checkmark, then when installing NMM there will be a window indicating the paths for storing mod archives, select as you wish.

In version NMM 0.65.X, the program itself will configure everything in .ini files, at least it should, judging by the changes in update 0.65.X

1. We follow the path "My Documents / My Games / Fallout 4". There will be several .ini files in this folder
2. Open the Fallout4Prefs.ini file, look for the line . Directly below it should be a line: (if not, then add)

bEnableFileSelection = 1

bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=

If for some reason you do not want to use the popular NMM or the built-in game manager, then you need to download Mod Manager for Fallout 4. With it, you can install on clothes, equipment, weapons, new images of satellites, sounds, textures and much more. Change the world of Fallout the way you like.

The manager works with esp and esm formats. The advantage over NMM is that you do not need to register anywhere.

Installation

First you need to download Mod manager for Fallout 4 and install it. After that, you won't have to put in much effort to add modifications.

Click Install and select the desired archive with the mod. Check the box for the files included in it. Click Install again.

  1. If you find the Data folder in the archive with the mod, uncheck the box. If you ignore this action, then when installing the mod extra folder and the modification will not work.
  1. In the Data folder, which is located in the Fallout 4 game folder, the program will create a Mods folder. It will contain text files. Do not delete them - they are used by the program.

With the Mod Manager, you can just as easily remove the mods you don't like.

In this article I will tell you how to install mods (modifications and add-ons) on the Fallout 4 game (Fallout 4), I will list and clearly explain all the ways to install mods, I will also describe several common problems and solutions. If you don't know how to install mods but really want to play Fallout 4 with mods, read this article.

What is needed to install mods?
1) Installed game Fallout 4, it is desirable to know the version of the game, the list of installed DLCs. (the game version is displayed in the game menu - settings, bottom right)
2) It is desirable to have the latest or freshest version of the game.
3) Have installed (program for opening archives).

Let's install mods:
Always carefully read the installation comments for each specific mod, many of them have certain features or nuances.

There are 2 ways to install mods on the game:
1) Automatic using the mod manager.
2) Manual.
Each of these methods has its pros and cons, some mods do not support the mod manager, other mods are more difficult and longer to install with manual installation.

Automatic installation via NMM manager:

1) Download and install
2) Open C:\Users\your_pc_user\Documents\Fallout 4. (or C:\Users\your_pc_user\Documents\My Games\Fallout4)
3) Find the file Fallout4Prefs.ini
Finding a string

bEnableFileSelection=1

4) Save and close the document.
5) Open file Fallout4Custom.ini

bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=

Save the file and close notepad.

6) Read how to use, how to install mods with .

Manual installation of mods:

There are 2 types of mods, resource and plugin, mod files of both types must be copied to the \Fallout 4\Data folder, plugin mods have the extension esp or esm, they must be connected by writing their names in a specific file. (see below for how to do this).

1) Open C:\Users\your_pc_user\Documents\Fallout 4. (or C:\Users\your_pc_user\Documents\My Games\Fallout4)
2) Find the file Fallout4Prefs.ini using notepad or Notepad++ (recommended).
Finding a string
Immediately below it should be a line bEnableFileSelection=1, if the value is 0, change to 1, if there is no row, add.
3) Save and close the document.
4) Open file Fallout4Custom.ini, if given file no, then create Text Document named Fallout4Custom, change the txt extension to ini. (if not available, google how to enable the ability to change the file extension).
You should get a Fallout4Custom.ini file (not Fallout4Custom.ini.txt).
Open it with notepad and type in

bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=

5) Save the file and close notepad.
6) Download mods from our site, each mod contains specific explanations of which files to copy where and other actions that need to be performed.

Enabling (connecting) plugins:

After you have done all the instructions above, you downloaded the mod files themselves, copied them according to the installation instructions in each news. if the file has the extension esp or esm then you should do the following:

For modern versions of the game (from 1.5):
Enter the game, select the modification section:
You will probably have to register on the bethesda website, some pirated repacks remove this.
Choose Load order, Select the desired mod in the menu on the left, click activate.
Ready.

If you have old version games (before official mod support):
1) Open the folder
C:\Users\your_pc_user\AppData\Local\Fallout4

If you cannot find the AppData folder in the C:\Users\your_pc_user\, it means you have the display turned off hidden folders and files.
You can turn on the display, .
Or press START - in the search bar (Win7) enter %APPDATA%\, you will be taken to the \AppData\Roaming folder, click on AppData

2) Find the file plugins.txt, click on it right click mouse, select properties.
Uncheck " only for reading".

3) Click Apply and OK.
4) Open the file with notepad, right after the line Fallout4.esm you need to insert the full name of the downloaded mod with the extension, for example LooksMenu.esp
5) Save the file, right click again on the file, properties, and again set the attribute " Only reading".
