In practice, it has long been known that with the operational use of raster lamps, people do not need to purchase new lamps for installation. led lighting. The main effective option for reconstruction are T8 LED lamps at 600 mm and 1200 mm.

These lamps are ideal for office space, shops. Often installed in a false ceiling. Now fluorescent lamps 600 x 600 mm with installed fluorescent lamps 4x18 W have practically lost their relevance and have been replaced by new LED ones. Such a lamp fixture is installed overhead.

If you want to save on a full-fledged LED lamp, you can turn the indicated 4 x 18 W fluorescent lamp into an LED one by simply replacing the lamps with T8 LED lamps with a G13 base. In the manufacture of tubes, matte and transparent polycarbonate material is used, and LEDs are installed inside.

LED bulbs 1200 mm long with G13 base are also equipped with LED elements. They are of the required length and can similarly replace 36W fluorescent lamps in 2 x 36W luminaires.

When performing such replacements of light sources, it is also necessary to carry out a reconstruction of the wiring inside the luminaire. t8 LED light sources are usually connected directly to a 220 V network. But be sure to check this in the instructions!

We briefly dwelled on the main, most common options, now we will consider the issue in more detail.

The main types of lamps

Standard sizes of LED lamps are 600 mm, 900 mm, 1200 mm.

According to their design characteristics, they are divided into two types:

  • A lamp where the driver is installed inside the tube under the diodes. The voltage in this lamp reaches up to 220 V.
  • A lamp that uses an external driver. Voltage level 12V/24V.

Flasks are divided into the following types:

  • Matte;
  • Transparent;
  • Translucent;
  • Not transparent.

In the manufacture of flasks use:

  • Arkyl plastic;
  • Polycarbonate.

These materials are durable and reliable in operation.

Standard sizes:

The luminous flux and power consumption grows depending on the length of the light source and is approximately (at different manufacturers may vary):

  • 600mm, T8 G13, 870-1100lm, 10W;
  • 900mm, T8 G13, 1200-1300lm, 13W
  • 1200mm, T8 G13, 1450-1900lm, 15-18W
  • 1500mm, T8 G13, 2030-2365lm, 22-24W

The color temperature varies depending on the type of lamps:

  • Warm white light (2700–3500 K);
  • Neutral white (3500–4500 K);
  • Cold, slightly blue (more than 4500 K).

Of all the types, neutral white light will be the best option. This light is great for the eyes. The eyes will not get tired, and the light will shine brightly. However, for rooms where it is necessary to create a homely atmosphere of comfort (kitchens, bedrooms), warm white light will be more acceptable.

Which option to choose

T8 LED lamps have become a popular light source due to their high efficiency. this decision replacing fluorescent light with LED. The body of the lamp itself remains unchanged. Another plus of these lamps is the ease of replacement in case of failure.

We've all heard that led light serves for a long time: 50,000–100,000 hours, that is, more than 20 years. Unfortunately, for ordinary household cases, and cases of acquisition LED lamps at the enterprises this service life is not reached.

It happens as the proverb says "the miser pays twice." In fact, cheap low-quality LED light sources with a garbage current control circuit and waste LEDs are purchased. As a result, 2-3 years is the maximum service life of such devices. And the unattainable bar of 10–20 years of service remains the lot of those who are ready to purchase a professional high-quality device. For example, the price of a quality analogue fluorescent lamp 4 x 18 W cannot be less than 2000–2500 rubles. And of course, it should be borne in mind that expensive is not a guarantee, but perhaps the desire of the seller to earn more by selling low-quality goods.

Features of LED lamps

Light flow

If you decide to purchase a LED lamp - an analogue of 18 W / 36 W fluorescent with a G13 base, then the first thing to do is to decide on the required luminous flux. Brighter options will cost more, as they use more energy efficient diodes. With the same power, such a lamp will shine brighter.

Ripple factor

This is an important characteristic that affects health. Ideally, this figure should be less than 1%, but the current legally approved limit is 5%. It is this pulsation and no more that light sources should have in rooms where people work with a PC. Given the fact that we all use phones, tablets, smartphones and other gadgets in different rooms, then if you care about your health, then make it a rule to use light sources with a ripple of no more than 5%.

Colorful temperature

As stated earlier, the "warmer" the light, the more comfortable, cozy and relaxing the atmosphere, and vice versa, the "colder" - the more invigorating, aggressive, working.

Installation in a luminaire

Let's consider the issue of replacing lamps of fluorescent lamps and give a connection diagram for the t8 LED tube.

The wiring diagram for LED lamps is quite simple and does not require much effort. However, before connecting, read the instructions, as other options are possible. In particular, there are T8 G13 kits that may require a daisy chain connection.

To connect, it is necessary to apply mains voltage of 220 V to the 220 V lamp using the wires of the lamp and do not use other additional devices.
It is necessary to remove the starter from the fluorescent lamp and short the throttle. This is required to submit desired voltage in an LED lamp.
In the future, if desired, it will be possible to return the starter and fluorescent lamp back.

In this video, the specialist left the chokes in the lamp, however, you can dismantle them, since after the alteration they are already useless there.

If the fluorescent tubes in the ceiling lamp are burnt out and you want to save money by installing LED, then it is not necessary to change the lighting device. It is enough to put T8 LED lamps in it, which are specially designed for a G13 socket.

We will tell you how to find the best option for a linear diode light bulb. Let's show you how to install it a little to modify the power circuit, removing from it extra elements. Taking into account our advice, you can easily improve the lighting device without the cost and effort.

Lighting in offices and public buildings today is most often made of luminaires with daylight fluorescent lamps. And for the most part, these are compact “squares” on the ceiling with mercury tubes for the G13 base.

These luminaires are standardized to fit 600x600 mm Armstrong ceiling systems and can be easily integrated into them. Fluorescent tubes were once widely introduced as part of energy savings. Lights are often on around the clock in public buildings and buildings.

Ordinary incandescent lamps in such conditions quickly burn out and consume too much electricity. Luminescent counterparts are 7–10 times more durable and 3–4 times more economical.

Ceiling lamps with T8 lamps - a classic in lighting modern offices, warehouses, trading floors, as well as educational, administrative and medical institutions

However, technologies continue to develop, and LEDs are gradually replacing tubes with harmful mercury. This novelty is even more durable and already consumes an order of magnitude less electricity than the old light bulbs with a tungsten filament.

"LED" (Light-Emitting Diode) outperforms competitors in all respects. The only disadvantage of such LEDs is that they high price. But it is gradually decreasing as the market for LED lamps develops.

Outwardly and in size, the T8 LED tube completely repeats the electroluminescent counterpart. However, she has a different internal organization and another principle of nutrition.

The considered LED lamp consists of:

  • two swivel plinths G13;
  • diffuser flask in the form of a tube with a diameter of 26 mm;
  • driver (power supply with surge protection);
  • LED boards.

The flask is made of two halves. One of them is an aluminum substrate-body, and the second one is a rear light-scattering ceiling made of transparent plastic. In terms of strength, this design greatly exceeds conventional glass tubes with mercury. Plus, aluminum perfectly removes the little heat that is generated during the operation of LED elements.

The diffuser can be transparent (CL) or opaque (FR) - in the second case, there is a loss of 20-30% luminous flux, but it eliminates the blinding effect of burning LEDs

To power the LED, you need a constant voltage of 12–24 V. To transform the alternating current from which the lamps are powered, the lamp has a power supply (driver). It can be built-in or external.

The first option is preferable, as it simplifies installation. If the handset has a built-in driver, then you just need to insert it in place of the old one. And in the case of a remote power supply, it will still need to be placed and fixed somewhere.

The number of LEDs on the board can be up to several hundred. The more elements, the higher the light output of the lamp and the more powerful it is. But a lot depends on the size of the tube.

T8 LED lamps in length come in:

  1. 300 mm.
  2. 600 mm.
  3. 1200 mm.
  4. 1500 mm.

Each option is designed for its own type of fixtures. The tube can be found under any size of the lighting device and on the ceiling, and for desktop models.

Which is better: LED vs fluorescent

When compared with other lamps, LEDs greatly benefit in terms of efficiency. However, it comes with a number of problems. You can't just insert an LED into a lamp in place of a gas-discharge light bulb.

The process of replacing phosphor lamps with LED counterparts requires rewiring in the luminaire, which must be carried out by a professional electrician - while such modifications do not fully comply with safety requirements

Before LED installation T8 tubes in a luminaire designed initially for connecting fluorescent lights, it is necessary to remove the starter (starter). If the LED lamp has a built-in driver, then it only needs direct power from the 220 V network.

But in the circuit there is also a ballast (choke). Some tubes with LEDs are compatible with it. They may well work without extracting the given element. In this case, it is only necessary to unscrew the starter.

However, there are modifications for which a ballast load is completely unnecessary and even contraindicated. It also needs to be removed by connecting the wires at the place of the gap. Such alterations lead to the fact that after putting back the luminescent tube it becomes impossible.

In this case, usually no notes are made on the luminaire body about these modifications of the power circuit. As a result, a new electrician comes in and, for one reason or another, inserts a luminescence. And this is a direct path to problems in the power grid.

Plus, measurements show that T8 LED lamps connected through LED lamps can lose up to 20% energy efficiency. This is additional wasted electricity. And a lot depends on the manufacturer. Some reduce these losses to almost zero, increasing the cost of the product, while others simply do not mention them on the packaging.

It is best to initially choose a handset designed for direct connection. Then it will only be necessary to remove everything unnecessary from the lamp and make notes on the lighting fixture about the changes made. This is a more difficult solution to install, but not as problematic in the future.

In general, replacing T8 fluorescents with LED lamps of similar size has whole line pros:

  1. Energy saving, consumption is reduced by 50-80%.
  2. Longer service life (manufacturers claim 5–6 years of continuous operation, but practice speaks of 3–4).
  3. No flicker effect.
  4. No hazardous mercury fumes.
  5. Higher light output.

Almost all models of T8 LED tubes have a narrow luminous flux of 180 degrees. A luminescent opponent, on the contrary, shines in all directions, losing most of the light that is directed upwards directly into the body of the ceiling light fixture.

Wiring diagrams for G13 lamps with LEDs

The system for starting a luminescent tube is built on the basis of an induction electromagnetic (ballast) or (electronic ballast). If the T8 LED lamp is connected through them, then it must be designed to work with these circuit elements.

Before starting installation, it is necessary to carefully study the instructions attached to the LED tube, there are several varieties of these lamps and their connection schemes.

There are two basic schemes for connecting new LED lamps instead of fluorescents:

  1. Directly to the 220 V network with complete removal of the starter and ballast.
  2. Through the electromagnetic ballast in the luminaire.

The first option is further subdivided into a couple of subspecies, depending on the presence of an internal or outdoor unit nutrition. If the PSU is built into the LED tube, then you just need to insert it into the connectors. And if the lamp is designed for power at 12 V, then a separate power supply unit will have to be mounted somewhere nearby, and then the wiring will be connected through it.

The connection of wires, depending on the model of the LED lamp, happens only on one of the sides or on both sides at once, the exact diagram of their connection must be specified in the instructions or data sheet of the light bulb

Installation is easy. In most cases, simply inserting a new tube in place of the old one is sufficient. The main thing is to choose it correctly.

If a simple linear model is purchased without the ability to connect through a starter, then you will have to tinker with the wires. It is not enough to remove the ballast and starter, we must also short-circuit these gaps. And short wires in such lamps are often not designed for contraction, you have to make inserts.

General selection criteria for LED lamps

In order to correctly choose the T8 LED tube and not regret it later, you need to carefully study all the inscriptions in the product labeling. Everything is detailed there, you just need to understand all these numbers and characteristics.

Almost all T8 LED tubes have a dispersion angle of 180 degrees, so that the luminous flux is completely directed straight down: from the ceiling to objects in the illuminated room

According to the color of light () LED lamps are divided into three groups:

  1. "Warm White" Warm White (2700–3300 K).
  2. "Natural white" Neutral White (3300–5000 K).
  3. "Cold White" Cool White (>5000 K).

Second important parameter- light output (light intensity). The more lumens indicated in the passport of the T8 LED lamp, the more LED chips it costs. But even the brighter it will shine, which is not always useful.

When choosing according to this indicator, you need to focus on. The new ones should not exceed them too much in light intensity.

The third important figure is the degree of color rendering (Ra or CRI). At the maximum, it can be equal to 100. This is the reference natural light from the sun. But such lamps are more intended for spot lighting of desktops, where color distortion of objects is unacceptable. For conventional fixtures, Ra in the range from 80 to 90 is sufficient.

In terms of power supply, LED lamps can be rated for 12–24 or 220 V. The former require an additional power supply, while the latter are already built into the tube body.

According to the housing for installation in the office, IP20 or IP21 is enough. There is no special dust and moisture in such rooms. If you want to take it with a margin, then IP40 will do. The rest of the models with a large IP will cost too much, and there is zero need for increased protection in the home.

Overview of LED tube manufacturers

AT last years The LED technology market is booming. The number of brands and manufacturers is growing exponentially.

This leads to a gradual reduction in prices for LED in stores. However, for an ordinary buyer, these processes are not always beneficial, since there is a high risk of running into a frankly low-quality product.

Before you buy one or another option, you need to carefully study the labels on the packaging.

What to do with the old fluorescent device after replacing it, you will learn from the disposal of devices containing mercury.

T8 series lamps have long been widely used in society, and are also abundantly distributed in domestic and commercial areas of human activity. Initially, people used, but with the advent LED analogues have changed dramatically. T8 LED lamps have many advantages over fluorescent light sources, both in terms of technical characteristics and design.

The most important advantage T8 LED lamps is that they are shaped and connected to the mains by means of a base G13, completely coincide with analogues. This was made possible thanks to the hard work of leading manufacturers of LED lighting, Myled and ASD who have implemented these technologies in their products and provided the user with an ideal product.

The main advantages of T8 LED light sources over fluorescent lamps can be distinguished:

1. T8 fluorescent lamps installed in luminaires for offices or other public buildings. This manipulation became available due to the general form T8 LED lamps and the base with which they are produced, namely G13. The installation procedure itself LED lamps produced in the same way as conventional fluorescent light sources.

2. T8 LED lamps have a very distinctive difference from fluorescent lamps. T8 lamps have a divided body on the socles, and a circular mechanism is installed inside, which makes it possible to rotate the lamp around its axis. This innovation allowed people using the T8 LED lamp to direct the light flux to a specific area of the illuminated object. Very often this property led lamp used for shop window lighting. do not have this opportunity.

3. Color temperature of light LED lamps can be different and the user is given a choice: 3000K, 4000K, 6500K.

4. T8 lamps, which are based on the operation of LEDs, do not need to be subjected to any special disposal, since they do not have any harmful constituent components. Fluorescent lamps, on the contrary, contain mercury vapor, which, when the flask is deformed, can enter the environment and have a negative effect on humans.

T8 LED lamps are one of the most economical sources of light, and are of great use and distribution, due to the fact that there are many already installed luminaires under given format lamps.
