DriverPack Solution Online is simple and fast way find and download one or another "vital" driver for a webcam, video or audio card, WiFi adapter, printer, etc.

The free DriverPack Solution program is designed to automate the process of installing, updating, and searching for drivers in the Windows OS environment, and is distributed by the developer in several versions, including online and offline versions. The advantage of the latter is that in order to load almost any necessary driver for sound, network card, wi-fi, etc. no Internet connection is required - all drivers are already in the DriverPack Solution database, which can be written to a disk or USB flash drive and be extremely useful from time to time, for example, when reinstalling operating system. With all this, the main disadvantage of the offline version of DriverPack Solution can be considered the volume of the full database - almost 11 GB, which is unlikely to be acceptable for users with a slow or limited Internet connection.

In order not to download the entire database of drivers, but to find and install only those that require updating or are missing in the system, the developers offer alternative solution as online version, which is completely free, easy to use, and its distribution is less than 3 MB in size, but its only drawback (if it can be considered as such) is that it is strictly required to have an Internet connection.

And so, how to find and install the necessary drivers using DriverPack Solution Online:

  • Download the program (from the official website or from us);
  • We launch the program, and we see something like the following (we strongly recommend choosing a manual installation);
  • In the "Install Drivers" menu, we see a list of drivers that require updating (example in the screenshot), but we do not click the "Install All" button!

for the reason that we kindly propose to install in the load and some additional programs(marked with checkmarks in the screenshot) to open the list of programs, click on the "Soft" menu (in the screenshot).

Thus, if you choose automatic installation at the initial stage, then along with the drivers, the programs marked with checkboxes (although not bad ones) would get to the computer.

Then we just have to wait for the download and installation process to complete, click "Finish" on this process is completed.

In conclusion, let's clarify this point - many users probably noticed the button "Do you want to disable Windows surveillance?" on the left side of the DriverPack Solution Online menu.

By pressing this button, after a short period of time, we see the message “Windows tracking was successfully disabled”, while the button works not only in Windows 10, where the problem of user data privacy is particularly relevant, but also in other versions of the operating system from Microsoft - Windows 8 and Windows 7, in connection with this, a reasonable question arises: “what exactly is turned off, and does given function generally?".

This functionality works, but it is extremely problematic to completely block the transmission channel of user data (telemetry data) in Microsoft. This is because, along with the well-known data transmission channels that DriverPack Solution Online blocks (for example, some windows updates, blocking requests to a number of known this moment data collection servers over IP, disabling various services responsible for sending "diagnostic data", preventing error reporting from being sent to Microsoft, etc.), there are a number of channels that are still unknown, and besides, from time to time Microsoft introduces new ways to collect data (for example, with the release of the next update), etc. Therefore, it is a priori impossible to completely disable surveillance in Windows, especially with regard to Windows 10.

Windows 10 supports a wide range of various devices: video cards, printers, scanners, network adapters, sound adapters, etc. In most cases, the system will recognize all devices and will automatically install Windows drivers 10. The driver can be installed immediately (if included with Windows 10) or downloaded from the Internet.

However, not all drivers are automatically installed by Windows 10, you have to spend your time searching for them on the Internet. Instead, you can use special programs to install Windows 10 drivers. The program will automatically detect your devices, install all the necessary drivers, and you just have to restart your computer. Driver Talent Pro

Driver Talent Pro is one of the few Windows 10 driver installers that allows you to download drivers to a specified location and install them manually. Usually the installation takes place in the background and the user sees only the slider.

You may have already noticed that the system automatically identifies, finds and updates device drivers connected to your PC. At what it is done without any intervention from the user. Sometimes such careless behavior can lead to errors in the operation of system devices ( motherboard, video adapter, network card, sound processing chip, etc.).

However, the developers have foreseen the possibility disable automatic driver installation, so that the internal tools of the system do not interfere with the operation of hardware devices and do not cause conflicts associated with the incorrect operation of the hibernation and sleep modes, frequent black screens, and others. In this article, I will describe three ways to disable automatic driver installation in Windows 10.

#1 Using proprietary Microsoft utility

Especially in order to carry out the task we need, Microsoft has released an exclusive utility that allows you to disable the installation of problematic drivers. At what, it is problematic, that is, those that cause difficulties in the operation of the system. Safe drivers, in turn, will not be affected by the utility. You can download the utility from this link.

When starting the utility, the first thing we are offered is to select from the list of drivers for which you would like to disable the update, but first you need to initialize and search for drivers in the system, for which we click the "Next" button on the first form.

After a few tens of seconds, a form appears for selecting utility functions - we stop at the “Hide Updates” option.

You will see a list of devices for which updating drivers may cause errors and problems. We select the necessary ones from the specified list and after that we again mark the “Next” button.

This completes the utility function. Now the system libraries for those devices that you have selected from the list will no longer be updated automatically.

#2 Using gpedit (local group policy editor)

This section describes how to get rid of installing drivers for an individual device by hardware ID.

Before proceeding with it, let's find out what ID number the device has for which you plan to disable driver updates. To do this, go to the device manager (right-click on the start button "Start"), select the device you are looking for and go to its properties.

Switch to the "Details" tab and select the "Hardware ID" section. Let's save the identifier of the selected device in the clipboard by clicking on each of the values with the right mouse button and selecting the "Copy" item in the menu that opens.

Save all IDs in a separate text file, sequentially pasting them there from the clipboard. If you want to overwrite the value manually, leave the window open, otherwise you can this form close.

Now we open . To do this, use the combination “Win + R” and enter the value “gpedit.msc” in the text field. In the editor window, select a hierarchical branch "Computer Configuration" -> "Administrative Templates" -> "System" -> "Device Installation" -> "Device Installation Restrictions". Select the menu item "Prohibit installation of devices with indicated codes devices."

Set the value to "Enabled" by selecting the appropriate radio button, and then click on the "Show" button.

On the form that appears, we will enter the identifiers that we extracted from the device manager and put the new settings into effect.

After following the instructions above, you will no longer be able to install new drivers for the specified device either automatically or manually until the changes are canceled in the local group policy editor.

If the presented administration mode is not available in your edition of Windows OS, see point 3 below.

#3 Using the Registry Editor

What we did in the second paragraph can also be done using the registry editor. First you need to copy the ID desired devices from the device manager in the same way as described earlier.

After that, open the registry editor using the sequence "Win + R" and entering the value "regedit" in the mini-window that opens. Open a branch in the editor HKEY_LOCL_MACHNE\SFTWARE\Policies\Micosoft\DeviceInstall\Restrictions\DenyDeviceIDs(if the specified section is not in the menu, create it manually).

Next, generate line by line string values, where the name will be sequence numbers ascending, starting from one, and the value is those identifiers that you retrieved from the properties in the device manager.

The result will be similar to the one we got using gpedit.

In this article, I described three ways to prevent automatic installation of drivers in Windows system 10. The main task is to determine which device drivers are causing problems on your PC, and prohibit updating them explicitly or implicitly using the tools specified in the material.
