To be honest, I did not expect that the budget segment could please me so much. Especially after reading the negative reviews, I mentally prepared for the fact that I would have to suffer (although I am skeptical of such opinions, preferring to get acquainted with the object of interest to me from my own experience). So. After spending more than two months with the phone, I summarize. The phone is comfortable, fits perfectly in the hand, at first there is no desire to let go of it. I haven't experienced any problems with the battery. Having initially optimized the operation of the device, using it only for its intended purpose and not assigning super-tasks, I calmly, without being nervous, walked around with the phone all day, not risking being without a connection by 17.00. From morning to evening + 20 percent remained. I think that for modern phones this is a common result. As for performance. The phone does not hang, does not tupit. The camera works well. I am satisfied.

A lot of nerves spent with this phone. Was the first experience with Sony. Didn't expect this at all. Huge disappointment.

Advantages

Refined exterior design. Really beautiful model.

Flaws

The most egregious drawback is that this phone may not always ring (no matter what mobile operator). The antenna is full, but the call does not go - there are no beeps. People can't get through either. The phone starts freezing almost immediately after purchase. Charging lasts a maximum of 3 hours. The camera is terrible. Inconvenient phone book. Pre-installed music and video players are absolutely inoperable. Sometimes the screen goes blank when you put the phone on a table or other surface. Incredibly uncomfortable gallery. The keyboard shortcut for taking a screenshot does not always work. Non-removable battery. This is so, offhand. The device is absolutely identical to androids for 10-13 thousand, but its price is incredibly high.

Advantages

Nimble. Not dull, the screen is good

Flaws

The camera is not very good (in the dark or poor lighting it is better not to get it), the battery lasts for a day with the Internet turned on. Everything breaks off around the body.

I took z3 as a replacement, of course it’s inferior in terms of battery, but after all the firmware for a day of active use it’s enough without using the stamina mode (turns on at 25 percent) I chose between z5 and X, the appearance outweighed the scales, elegant framelessness, omni front screen coverage . Definitely worth the money, in the case it loses all its beauty. The second month I wear without covers, with careful use I did not notice a single scratch. In terms of speed, it is slightly inferior to z3, apparently due to the RAM, but this is almost not noticeable. Do not carry with keys and change in your pocket, do not put on rough surfaces and you will be happy. The camera is an order of magnitude cooler than the z3, both rear and front, the pictures are clear, sharp, the white balance is adequately maintained. The screen is bright, juicy, colors are saturated. I advise you to subscribe to updates on the sony website and update through the computer, because. latest versions Firmware through the settings does not see. I recommend the model.

Design, construction

Appearance devices are just a delight, and that is why Sony Xperia The XA is sure to gain some popularity this summer, relatively small and inexpensive smartphone appeared just in time, in the summer, when many people want something compact for the pockets of their shorts. Girls will also like the gadget, the colors are "golden lime" and " pink gold"are very relevant now, and thanks to Apple - pink, new black and new gray for gadgets, it is simply impossible not to release a device of this color now. In our first glance, there was just such an apparatus.

Another smartphone reminded me of Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray, there is something in common in the size and shape of the case.

Although the price is, of course, not Ray at all, the Sony Xperia XA is already inexpensive at the start and fills a very important niche now, a sort of “budget plus segment” - basic characteristics, but good design. Therefore, communication with a smartphone is like walking through a minefield, looking for where the savings are, and you find.

Well, here, take the materials. The back cover is made of plastic, the fingers do not slip, but the scratches are clearly visible, accidentally put it in the pocket with the keys, and hello, just a few at the bottom. Inserts on the ends are made of metal, under the cap - full-fledged two slots for nanoSIM and one slot for microSD - no need to cut anything and go for some tricks, it's nice. The familiar cool button on the right, but there is no fingerprint sensor, the volume rocker could be made longer - but there is a camera button.

The speaker at the bottom is loud in a quiet room, but somewhere on the street you can miss a call, the microUSB connector is without plugs, on the back there is an NFC area, a flash and a camera. There is no protection from water, nor from dust, so be careful on the beaches. There is a 3.5 mm jack on the top end, so take care of the device in the rain, drops can easily get inside during a call.

The dimensions of the device are 143.6 x 66.8 x 7.9 mm. So why is design good? As you know, this is always a very subjective question, some like a thing, some don't, but I can try to explain why people like XA. Firstly, there is a frameless screen and glass with rounded ends, for many this is already a kind of marker - something new, interesting. Secondly, the smartphone has a minimum of Sony embellishments and applications - but the wallpapers and icons are well chosen. Thirdly, it seems like a budget device, but here you have Xperia Care, and Sony Xperia Store, and Xperia Lounge - a person feels care and some kind of exclusivity from the first minutes. It's funny to you, but are there such services in other smartphones of this price category? Then, here you can really get a discount on a speaker or accessories, it’s worth looking into the Lounge. I also tried the Xperia to Xperia transfer service, it does not work very well with applications, not all were installed, but dragging photos, videos and contacts helps.

Another thing I noticed is that the Sony Xperia XA is completely flat! The camera does not protrude here, the buttons do not protrude (only on the side), and therefore it is convenient to use it, it is convenient to stuff it in and take it out of your pocket, it is convenient to hold it in your hand during a conversation - for a rough back the finger clings, does not slip off. It also seems to be a trifle, but you know, it is from the little things that the impression of a thing is formed.

The Sony Xperia XA has a beautiful design, there are no questions at all, and this is a big plus for the device among other gadgets in this price category.

Display

As soon as I took off the film, I noticed that the glass is without an oleophobic coating, the finger stumbles, it is most convenient to perform some operations by pressing a nail or even a stylus against the screen. Keep in mind that films or glasses for XA are still curved, that is, they cover the front, leave the ends open, it looks terrible, it’s better not to buy anything than to buy this. And keep in mind one more thing, the lack of an oleophobic coating affects not only when simply moving through the menu, but also when typing from keyboards that support “swipe”, you can’t quickly move your finger. The difference with any smartphone where there is a coating is obvious - even if it is a well-worn iPhone 6S Plus, where it is almost erased and prints appear instantly. Fingerprints on the Sony Xperia XA are also clearly visible both in front and behind, so the best and most accurate device will look white, gold or pink.

The diagonal of the IPS display is 5 inches, the resolution is 1280 x 720 pixels, the rounded ends have a positive effect on the impression - the light indicator on top seems to be floating in the air, the display seems to have no frames, formally they still exist, albeit almost imperceptible. I guess many will rush to buy Sony Xperia XA, licking their lips on samsung galaxy S7 Edge, of course, there are more functions, completely different characteristics, but the glass is also rounded! "So it's almost the same!" - I bring here consumer thoughts overheard in the store aloud. And funny, and sad, and the price pushes to buy. Of course, it's not the same at all - I would advise you to try to work with the screen on samples in salons before buying.

So, the screen characteristics are not the best, but the display size is small, so in normal use, the HD resolution is not striking. Although, if you look at the clock, the icons ... In general, it's better not to peer anywhere and just use the device. Although the screen fades when viewed from the side.

I don't know if it's Sony's artwork or the usual for android thing, but the calendar has very funny pictures for each month, cool and sensibly drawn. The music player has its own design, its own wallpapers, themes, several applications, but, like the Z5 series, a course has been taken to reduce third-party software - few utilities, pure Android, a minimum of "improvers", many people like it.

I believe that an oleophobic coating in 2016 is a must for a device at any price point.

Modifications and performance

Let me remind you that the two main modifications, XA (F3111) and XA Dual (F3112), use nanoSIM, in the version with two SIM cards you can use two cards and a microSD memory card without dancing with a tambourine, separate slots. I personally like the Dual-version more, and the difference in price is small.

operating room android system 6.0, Mediatek processor Helio P10, Mali t860 is responsible for the graphics, 2 GB random access memory, 16 GB of internal memory - it is better to immediately rely on microSD card. Sony doesn't forget to put in a radio, which some people really like. Of the music formats, MP3, 3GPP, MP4, SMF, WAV, OTA, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, ASF are supported by default. Bluetooth 4.1 profile, Wi-Fi MIMO, NFC,

LTE is supported, with MegaFon everything worked as expected.

Working hours

The battery capacity is 2300 mAh, among the features it claims to work for two days, the Sony Xperia XA has the familiar STAMINA and Ultra STAMINA modes, the first disables only some features (GPS, vibration, regular synchronization is turned off, etc.), the second just cuts connection to the network in all ways, phone, SMS and a number of the most desired programs, although I would argue with some. For example, you can definitely do without a radio. Both functions can be enabled independently, and to achieve two days of operation, you will have to do this, in easy mode does not work. The smartphone works for a day with normal loading, with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on, if you want more - learn to use regular energy-saving functions, reduce the backlight. You yourself know everything.

The kit comes with a conventional charger, using the UCH12 power supply, you can enjoy the benefits of fast charging - 10 minutes of connecting to the network, 5.5 hours of work. Convenient if you are somewhere in the city, but then you will have to fork out for UCH12. Quick Charge 3.0 (Class A) from Qualcomm and Pump Express + 2.0 from MediaTek are supported, charging works not only with X, XA, but also with the Z5, Z3 series. The price of the charger in Russia is still unknown.

cameras

Front camera 8 MP, main 13 MP Sony Exmor RS, pulsed LED flash. There's HDR support, hybrid autofocus, some features like 5x Clear Image zoom came from the Sony Xperia Z5 - but it's better to do without zooming. It is not clear why the device does not remember the set parameters, let's say I chose manual settings, maximum resolution, took a few pictures, went to the menu, then I start the camera again, and there again the auto mode. And you constantly have to go into the settings, switch between 13 MP and square frames and 9 MP and pictures with a normal aspect ratio. In general, this has been the case in Sony for a long time - and yet, if you start the camera from the button, here, too, the settings cannot be changed at will.

The video comes out like this.

Front camera 8 MP, wide-angle, with autofocus, several people can fit in the frame.

You can install various camera apps from the extra menu, but be aware that this is not a flagship and some add-ons will be slow.

I liked the speed of autofocus and camera launch.

conclusions

Prices are the same, 21,990 rubles for the version with one SIM card, 22,990 rubles for DualSIM, not bad.

I feel the vibration in my pocket, the reception quality seemed worse than with the same SIM card in the iPhone 6S Plus, but, of course, the devices cannot be compared, different prices, different worlds.

A simple question, is it possible to live with the Sony Xperia XA after the flagship expensive devices? Eh, if they added an oleophobic coating, then there would be no questions at all - this is my biggest claim to the company. A smartphone named XA is beautiful, smart, the camera is not bad, “empty” Android will appeal to those who are used to setting everything up themselves. It's good that the DualSIM version has two slots, and it's good that they didn't forget about the memory card slot. I advise owners to immediately find a suitable film or glass, and the UCH12 charger will come in handy.

Answering the question above - it is quite possible to live with XA.

The main models of the new line of Sony smartphones. Now it's time to get acquainted with the junior representative of the series - Xperia XA. There is nothing funny in its name, XA should be read as "x hey" or "x a", but in no case "ha". In my opinion, the name XS would be more suitable for the device - it is narrower, thinner and lighter than the original Xperia X, simpler in terms of hardware, but much more interesting in appearance and in some other ways.

Video review and unboxing

Equipment and design

The packaging of the smartphone differs from the Xperia X in material and shape. The softer cardboard box is made in the style of the Xperia Z line - flat and rectangular. External design and coloring are similar to Xperia X, but there are no separate compartments and boxes inside. The device comes with a charger unit (regular, not amplified), cable and paper documentation. In total, four color variants of the smartphone are released on the market: black, white, gold and pink, and pink is only available for the version with one SIM, although only the name is from pink. More like salmon or coral with tints under different lighting (sometimes it seems almost orange).

Externally, the Xperia XA inherits the design concept of the C5 Ultra smartphone (review) with minimal side frames. The decision is nice, fresh, against the backdrop of the Xperia Z line was a breath of fresh air and even now remains so next to the new Xperia X and X Performance. Xperia XA attracts primarily with its compact size and borderless screen. The case turned out to be smaller, lighter and more comfortable than the older X's, despite the same display size. There are only two complaints about the appearance: a very sensitive plastic on the back and a weak oleophobic layer on the front panel. The back easily collects scratches even with careful handling, and the display does not rub off traces very well and readily collects fingerprints. Compared to devices without an oleophobic layer, everything is not as bad as it could be, but something more sliding and resistant to dirt should have been applied to such a spectacular frameless display. Look for films by size, in general. And don't forget to buy a case.

The smartphone differs from the Xperia X and X Performance in several ways. There is no all-metal body, and only the frame is made of metal. However, the build is excellent in all cases. The NFC platform is located in the traditional place for Sony Xperia - on the rear panel (in Xperia X it is to the left of the front camera). There are no stereo speakers in the novelty, as well as a fingerprint scanner, but the power and volume buttons are located in more convenient and familiar places. Moisture protection for the smartphone is not declared, as well as for the Xperia X (only the X Performance has it). Slots for memory cards and nanoSIM are hidden under a flap in both smartphones. The notification LED is located to the left of the front camera, while the Sony Xperia X has it hidden in the earpiece.

Despite the same size displays with a diagonal of 5", the Xperia XA screen is noticeably simpler than that of the Xperia X. It is much dimmer and turns blue or yellow at different angles. The dual-sim version of the Xperia XA, unlike the Xperia X and X Performance, cannot boast double volume internal memory, so don't count on more than 16 GB (of which 11 GB is available to the user). In addition, bonuses do not apply to Xperia XA when purchased before the end of July - a year of additional warranty for the display and its free replacement, six months Google Play Music and 12 Sony films. A potential owner can only count on 3 months of Play Music, which are activated when you first subscribe to the service. That's something, and a free screen replacement in case of damage would definitely not be superfluous here. A bezel-less display is much easier to break than a screen with thick side bezels.

Software

Smartphone works under Android control 6.0 with the latest Xperia Home shell, but in a somewhat simplified form - there are a lot of differences from the Xperia X interface. So, there are no online recommendations when starting a search with a swipe from the center down or on the left screen of the application menu, there is no support for Remote Play and Dualshock controllers, double tap to wake up the display and launch the camera by double pressing the power button. To improve images, Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 technology is used, and not X-Reality (although they have the same principle of operation - they make the picture richer for photos and videos). There is no automatic sound optimization for any connected headphones either (there are only a few branded headsets), just as there is no DSEE HX technology, which completes the sound of very compressed music files to a normal level.

Otherwise, the interface is similar, all new design elements and sections are used, the themes are tailored to the colors of the smartphone, the Xperia keyboard has given way to Swiftkey with the Sony theme, and the power settings have STAMINA and Ultra STAMINA energy-saving modes (hello to all users of old Xperia who have been deprived of these functions with an update to Android 6.0).

Camera

Unlike Xperia X, the Xperia XA smartphone received a 13-megapixel main camera module and an 8-megapixel front camera instead of 23-megapixel and 13-megapixel for the older model. At the same time, the device retained the main advantage of the flagship - hybrid tracking autofocus. The interface is similar in appearance to the Xperia X, but the only functional differences here are the lack of a smart SteadyShot stabilization mode and the possibility of full-fledged shooting in all modes and scenarios in full 13 MP resolution (Xperia X in some cases has a limit of 8 MP). By default, it is proposed to shoot photos at a resolution of 9 megapixels, video is recorded only in 1080p quality at 30 fps, but with the ability to record HDR video, which the Xperia X does not have. Smells like a dirty trick, doesn't it?

The main problem with the Xperia X and Xperia X Performance cameras was overheating when using tracking focus in a photo or video. The Xperia XA, surprisingly, does not have this problem, and the camera interface is faster and the pictures are saved faster than the Xperia X (but not faster than the X Performance). Moreover, the photographs are also different for the better. Pictures on the Xperia XA are more detailed, more true to color, and less noisy in daylight, but the automatics sometimes make mistakes in the white balance and lift up the ISO in the dark. This is where the manual mode comes to the rescue, in which the set ISO values correspond to what you see on the screen (the Xperia X has some kind of incomprehensible problem with this: ISO 400 and ISO 800 look the same light). Another point: the Xperia XA is much easier to shoot macro, it is much more willing to focus on close objects than the Xperia X and allows you to get a more or less successful shot with accurate focus from the first attempts, and not from the tenth.

Sony Xperia XA - Sony Xperia X:

Sony Xperia XA - Sony Xperia X

Exactly the same can be said about the auto-mode. On the Xperia XA, it works more accurately and more consistently, while on the Xperia X, you run the risk of getting six different frames out of six in color and quality. For some reason, the Xperia X camera thinks longer and does not always select the best scenario for suitable conditions. The camera misses particularly badly with the "Night Scene", as a result of which it takes too many attempts to get a clear frame with the right light and color. AT manual mode again, the Xperia XA has more space (full resolution, no problems with ISO), and in low light conditions, the smartphone does not light up frames and does not try to embellish the picture, although it has a little more noise than the Xperia X. As you can see, The Xperia XA has a less wide angle, and here it would seem that glasses are on the side of the Xperia X, but the geometric distortion of the cars in the photo above nullifies this advantage. In general, in this photo, the Xperia X automation did something terrible, turning the trees into mush, turning up the contrast and brightening the background (and this is the most successful shot of a series of several).

Sony Xperia XA auto - Sony Xperia X auto:

Sony Xperia XA manual - Sony Xperia X manual:

As for the front cameras, the Xperia XA received an 8 MP module with wide-angle optics, a 1/4" matrix and f / 2.0 aperture, while the Xperia X boasts a 13 MP module with similar optics, but a 1/3" matrix and exactly the same aperture . Both have a skin softening effect, and both cameras record Full HD video with electronic stabilization. Video Xperia XA writes worse than Xperia X. The exposure is not built smoothly, although the image stabilizer works well and the sound is recorded clearly. The presence of the HDR-video function allows you to shoot videos with a wide dynamic range, and it is strange that the Xperia X does not have this function. The Xperia XA, on the other hand, doesn't have auto scene selection when recording video, while the Xperia X does.

Sony Xperia XA is the youngest model of the new Xperia X series, with which the Japanese company begins a new round of its development. The smartphone belongs to the average price segment, nevertheless, he has something to stand out from the background of the main competitors and other devices within the line. Since the release, many have noted that the appearance of the device is one of key features, and balanced specifications hardware allows you to cope with any daily tasks.

Appearance

The first thing that catches your eye and has already been noted above is the lack of frames on the sides of the screen, however, against this background, the frames below and above may seem too big. The width of the smartphone is only 66.8 mm, which makes it one of the narrowest devices in the world among devices with 5-inch screens. It is a pleasure to hold the Sony Xperia XA in your hands, you tightly embrace its body and reach any end of the screen without any problems.

The side frame is rounded and made of metal, but the back cover is still plastic, although you can’t immediately tell this by touch. Another innovation was the use of 2.5D glass covering the screen, which also makes positive adjustments to the visual perception of the smartphone and convenience. Overall dimensions of the model: 143.6 x 66.8 x 7.9 mm and 138 grams.

There are four color options for the case: white, graphite black, lime gold and rose gold. It is important to note that the front side is now also painted in the color of the case.

On the top side there is a headphone jack and an additional microphone, on the bottom we have a micro USB port, the main microphone and a speaker, on the left side side there is a neatly hidden plug that closes the slot for the SIM card and memory card tray, but on the right there is traditionally a power button (a round metal button like the early Z-series), a volume rocker, and a camera button.

Display, hardware and software specifications

The Sony Xperia XA has a bright 5-inch screen with a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels (HD 720p) with a pixel density of 294 dpi, which is a little disappointing. However, in reality, this resolution is more than enough, you can only make out individual pixels with great difficulty, and without looking at the characteristics it is hard to believe that there is not a Full HD matrix here, although it would still look more advantageous. With viewing angles and color reproduction, everything is fine, among the improvements it is worth noting the proprietary Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 technology and the super bright mode.

Sony is actively cooperating with MediaTek and therefore it was decided to use the new MediaTek Helio P10 MT6755 chipset in Xperia XA with an 8-core 64-bit processor (ARM Cortex-A53 cores) and ARM Mali-T860 MP2 video. This chip is able to provide excellent performance, both in games and in applications, especially given the HD-resolution of the screen, everything will work without problems. The amount of RAM is 2 GB, which has already become the standard for mid-range devices. Internal storage is 16 GB but you can always expand it by installing a large microSD memory card up to 200 GB.

That's what definitely leads to bewilderment is a lithium-polymer battery with a capacity of 2300 mAh, because today the issue of autonomy is very acute. Although the manufacturer himself will assure that thanks to system optimization, improved STAMINA mode and energy-saving Android mode 6.0 smartphone will easily last you 2 days from a single charge in average use, and Qnovo Adaptive Charging technology will keep the physical life of the battery.

Of course, the Xperia XA has all the modern wireless standards data transmission (Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, Wi-Fi), GPS, A-GPS and GLONASS and the communication module operates in GSM GPRS/EDGE (2G), UMTS HSPA+ (3G) and LTE 4G/Cat 4 frequencies. with one SIM card (Xperia XA F3111, F3113 and F3115) and a version with two active SIMs (Xperia XA Dual F3112 and F3116).

cameras

Not a small emphasis, Sony puts on the photo the possibilities of new products and notes a few more modified modules and processing algorithms. The main camera in the smartphone is a 13-megapixel 1/3-inch Sony IMX258 Exmor RS sensor with hybrid autofocus technology and function quick launch cameras so that no moment is missed. The same technology is used in Xperia flagships Z5 and seeing it on the middle is at least nice.

To the delight of selfie lovers, an 8-megapixel Sony IMX219 Exmor R front camera with a wide-angle lens (88 degrees), auto focus, HDR mode is used.

To say that I really liked the smartphone is an understatement! Appearance, ergonomics, body materials and assembly - everything is really on top. Using the MediaTek chipset and HD screen will reduce the price of the model, while without losing the pleasure of everyday use of a frameless smartphone.

Smartphone Sony Xperia X (F5122) - review

I am often reproached for the fact that, as a fan of smartphones with large displays, I very rarely do reviews of smartphones with a diagonal of up to 5 ". It's true, I'm not particularly interested in them, especially since smartphones with a small diagonal are usually enough frail, and in almost all components: platform, sound, camera, battery, etc. And there are users who are very annoyed by this approach of manufacturers, because they need a good powerful smartphone, but with a small display. this segment with such requirements is very, very small. In this review, we will consider one of these options - a small smartphone that actually has flagship characteristics. This is the Sony Xperia X, a 5" phone.

There are also several other modifications of the Xperia X. This is the cheaper Xperia XA (weaker platform, worse performance and HD display), more powerful Xperia X Performance on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 that's dust and water resistant, and a hefty Xperia XA Ultra with a 6" FullHD display on a MediaTek MT6755. Contents of delivery The packaging is a strict white box with a bright Sony inscription and a barely noticeable Xperia X inscription. Complete set is extremely ascetic: smartphone, power adapter, USB to microUSB cable.
On the other hand, what else do you need? Headset? All of these bundled headsets are usually of very low quality and hardly anyone uses them. At the same time, they increase the cost of the kit. Well, to hell? Another thing is that, for example, Apple completes iPhones with really high-quality Earpods, and so many people use them. Power adapter - 5V and 1.5A.

By the way, this smartphone supports fast charging according to the Qualcom QuickCharge 3.0 standard, but you will have to buy a UCH12 adapter from Sony for it. Appearance and features The design of the Sony Xperia X is traditional and expected. Sony generally does not indulge users with variety in design, and the Xperia X is no exception. The case is made of painted aluminum alloy, the display is covered with tempered glass with rounded edges. The ends are slightly rounded, but the phone is quite comfortable to take with one hand from the table, it also fits very well and grips in the hand. There are inconspicuous plastic inserts for antennas only at the bottom end, the back cover also does not contain any plastic inserts - it is made of aluminum alloy. happened to me several times. Interestingly, in this smartphone there are no holes for the speaker at all. The right end from the bottom up: the camera call button (I warmly welcome such things), the volume rocker and the power button.
I didn't like the buttons at all. Well, okay - the camera, in any case, it requires a long press so that there are no accidental triggers. The volume rocker is inconveniently located, has an extremely small and very indistinct stroke. The power button is even weirder. At first I thought that it, like in Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, has a built-in fingerprint scanner, which made the button so uncomfortable (and in older Xperia models it was done very well), but there is no scanner here, and the button is terribly uncomfortable in itself: it not only does not rise above the surface, but is also slightly recessed. Why this is done is completely incomprehensible to me personally. The upper end is an audio output and a second microphone for noise reduction
The left end is a plug insert for a SIM card and a memory card.

Well, the bottom end is a microUSB output and a microphone.
Well, here is the Xperia X next to the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and Lenovo Note 5.
The smartphone looks good, but, let's say, without a twist, the materials and assembly are expected to be very high quality. The control buttons here are traditionally on-screen, and also quite large, so they occupy a rather large part of the screen area.

Also, I really don't like the fact that here, as in the rest Sony smartphones, you cannot interchange "Return" and "List running applications", well, in principle, no combination calls up the "Menu" at all. On the one hand, this is experienced, but very inconvenient. It's okay when the buttons are located on the bottom panel and are not reconfigured (although, for example, HTC is reconfigured), but since they already on-screen - why can't you reconfigure? For example, I'm very used to the fact that the "Return" is on the right. Actually, almost all smartphones have it on the right, and only Sony has it on the left - and this cannot be changed. Annoying. However, users Sony will probably get used to this quickly and don't like it when the return is on the right (But for right-handed people, the return should by definition be on the right, because this button is used much more often than launching running applications.) Display IPS display with OGS technology. Very good image quality, a good margin of brightness. In direct sunlight, like the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, the image is very clearly distinguishable. There is an effective anti-reflective filter and a high-quality oleophobic coating. pinkish tint. The same thing happens when the adaptive adjustment greatly reduces the brightness (well, or you lower it yourself), - the white color acquires such a shade. I tried to show it in the photo - I took it at an angle. It seems to be clearly visible that it is not white. And next in comparison is OnePlus 3, whose white color does not change at this angle.
That is, in general, the display is very high quality, but there is such a feature that I did not like. Device operation Android 6.0.1 is installed here, but, as usual with Sony, it uses its own shell and its own system applications. The main desktop.

Conversation mode.

Call quality is good, noise cancellation works effectively. I was afraid that due to the aluminum case with almost no plastic inserts, the level would be worse than that of other smartphones, but this was not noticeable in test conversations. The only thing is that when I measured the Wi-Fi level in comparison with the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, it showed the level slightly higher than the Xperia X. However, slightly higher. Wi-Fi speed tests and mobile Internet showed quite normal speed (in comparison with the same Samsung Galaxy S7 edge).

Audio As I already said, there are no holes for the speaker here at all, nevertheless, the built-in speaker sounds very decent: clean, without wheezing and sound good quality. This smartphone supports high quality audio tracks: if you download lossless tracks, they can be played by the system application, and the HR (HiRes) icon appears next to such tracks. The LDAC codec is also supported here - Bluetooth transmission of lossless formats with almost no quality loss .

I listened to HiRes (FLAC) sound in headphones. Sennheiser CX 2.00G in-ear headphones are very good: the sound is clear, voluminous, excellent detail, good, but, for my taste, harsh and sometimes downright cutting high (for certain compositions).

Audio-Technica ATH-M50x full-size headphones are also very good: the sound is quite voluminous, clear, good bass and decent highs. There is a DSEE HX option in the audio settings, which should improve the quality of playback of compressed files. Yes, it works. Not that they turn into HiRes Audio, but the detail is clearly improved, although the sound takes on a slightly metallic tint. There is also a ClearAudio + option that does not work with DSEE HX - also interesting: playback quality does improve for most songs. Video The performance of the system is enough to play even 4K videos.
Games 3D games play smoothly and briskly.

For tanks, the FPS is kept almost at the maximum - 59-60.

There are two power saving modes: proprietary STAMINA, which really increases the time battery life, and ultra-saving Ultra STAMINA mode.

Here are the apps available in Ultra STAMINA mode.

This is what the desktop looks like with Ultra STAMINA enabled.

Well, in bad lighting conditions.
In the dark.

Video example.

In my opinion, the camera is wonderful. Excellent autofocus - really very fast and tenacious. Didn't miss at all in normal lighting conditions. In some reviews, I saw claims that it focused poorly in insufficient lighting conditions - nothing like this happened to me. The focus only floated when shooting at night in situations where my mirrorless camera was also messing with the focus. The pictures are very clear, with excellent detail. The colors are vibrant yet natural. With white balance, the camera practically did not miss. The video is of good quality, and I liked how the stabilizer works there: you can see from the video that the picture is stabilizing. Of course, this is not such a good stabilizer as in cameras, but this is not a camera, but a small smartphone. In general, the camera impressed. System and performance Data on CPU-Z.

AnTuTu test.

In the comparison table, the smartphone is in 22nd place, next to the iPhone 6.

Geekbench 3 tests.

Well, the overall index for PCMark.

The smartphone is really powerful and nimble, there are no problems with performance here. Battery life My battery life tests. (STAMINA mode is off.) Internet. The brightness is set to a comfortable 40%, wireless networks are turned on, the page is updated in the browser every 30 seconds. 10 hours 40 minutes. Video. Wireless communications are disabled, the brightness of the player is set to a comfortable 10th level (15 in total), in MX Player the video of the series is spinning in a cycle. 9 hours 45 minutes. I expected it to be a couple of hours longer. Synthetic test PCMark issued 10 hours 1 minute. And here I expected that it would be a couple of hours less.

Nevertheless, the smartphone, which is practically promised by the manufacturer for two days without recharging, does not survive during normal use. One day lives iron even with a very serious load (10 hours on PCMark is quite a lot). Two days - only with not too active use and with the STAMINA mode turned on. In general, the autonomy indicators for these characteristics and battery capacity are quite normal. Observations at work and conclusions During testing, I did not find any problems. When running 3D games or applications that heavily load the system, there was a slight heating in the area of the chipset. In general, I liked the smartphone. For those who need a small but powerful and high-quality smartphone, this is a good option, and in almost all respects: performance, display, sound, camera, battery life. Price - yes, the price is high, I do not argue. Actually, smartphones from Sony have always been expensive. But a high-quality and powerful smartphone will not be cheap by definition.
