Inexpensive segment of smartphones in 2016 continues to surprise. Take, for example, the June novelty BQ Strike BQS-5020, which claims a 13 megapixel camera, IPS HD screen and a metal case. All this pleasure for Russian users will cost 5490 rubles per Buyon online store. It is important to note that, in contrast to the proposals in Chinese stores, there is no need to wait for delivery, and an official guarantee is provided. Intrigued? Here we are, too, we propose to understand in detail during the review.

Below is a summary table of available offers in Russian retail, compiled on the basis of data from the Yandex.Market service.

BQ Strike review

Equipment

Supplied BQ Strike BQS-5020 in ardent packaging. The front side shows the main advantages of the smartphone.

Package Includes Charger 0.5A, microUSB cable, headphones, instructions and warranty card.

Appearance

BQ Strike is available in several color options. We have classic black on tests, it looks attractive.

The assembly is excellent, all the details fit perfectly to each other. The lid does not bend under the pressure of the fingers.

The metal declared in the characteristics is located in the center of the cover. This improves rigidity and contributes positively to passive heat dissipation.

External surfaces with a matte finish, do not slip or get dirty. Marky only screen.

The side edges are slightly convex. It's nice to hold in your hands. All elements are within easy reach.

On the right, the BQ Strike has a power button and a volume rocker. The buttons are tightly fixed in the body, do not rattle, are pressed with little effort.

Both connectors are on the top. There is microUSB for charging and a 3.5mm audio jack for headphones.

The front side is covered protective glass. On the bottom frame are three touch buttons without illumination. On the top frame there is a voice speaker, a front camera and a set of sensors.

The main camera block is visually separated from the total cover area. Next to the lens is an LED flash. It does not protrude above the surface of the case, it will not scratch.

The cover is removable, for admission to the connectors you will need to apply force to it. There are two SIM bays (micro and nano), as well as a slot for a memory card. The battery is also removable.

Screen

BQ Strike received a 5-inch IPS-screen with HD resolution. The screen, taking into account the budget, pleased with the detail and uniformity of the backlight. The maximum brightness level is acceptable, but still the screen fades under the sun's rays. Two simultaneous touches are supported, there is no question about the operation of the sensor.

Filling

The heart of the BQ Strike is a quad-core Mediatek processor MT6580 with Cortex A7 cores running at 1.3 GHz. Mali400MP2 is responsible for the graphics. The performance level is far from being a record, but if we discard this senseless race for the top lines of the benchmark, the smartphone will delight not only with the smooth operation of the interface, but also with games of the World of Tank Blitz and Asphalt 8. In complex projects, graphics quality will need to be reduced. On board 1 GB RAM and 8 GB internal memory. Supports high-capacity drives.

Antutu

Connection

The capabilities of the telephone module are limited only by 3G frequencies. The connection is stable, no breaks were noticed. There is Bluetooth 4.0 and single-band Wi-Fi.

Battery

Per offline work MediaTek MT6580 responds with a 2000 mAh battery. At maximum load, the charge is enough for 3.5 hours of operation. In a mixed scenario, you can stretch the entire working day. The result, considering the light weight, is good.

Camera

Main camera with a resolution of 13 megapixels with autofocus. Frontal 5MP. Uses a traditional application with creative modes and manual settings. In the daytime, the camera takes good pictures. There is noise in low light. The resulting images can be shared on social networks without hesitation.

Soft

BQ Strike will please the owner of a fresh Android version 6.0. There are no branded shells and add-ons. Icons for installing programs and games have been placed on the desktop. If you do not want to clog memory, they are easily removed directly from the main screen.

Over the air updates are supported. Bayon app for online shopping with delicious prices for Russian users.

Results for BQ Strike

BQ Strike is very attractive inexpensive smartphone good IPS screen installed Android 6.0, high-quality cameras, support for two SIM and memory cards, a quad-core processor and a reinforced body. You can find fault with the battery capacity and the lack of LTE, but on the other hand, all this is conditional, and you should not forget about the final cost, not everyone is ready to overpay. There were no failures or problems in operation.

Appearance

In general, the BQS-5020 Strike looks modern, with six smartphone visuals available, two classic and four designer. The body is made of aluminum that is pleasant to the touch, which also partially solves the problem of processor heating when performing resource-intensive tasks. To features appearance we can attribute the visual combination of the flash and the main camera, as well as the nice design of the speaker speakerphone. This smartphone has a rather unusual location of the micro-USB connector on the top. But the BQS-5020 Strike may seem inconvenient to some users due to its relatively large weight of 174g.

On the front side you can see a 5-inch screen, front camera, earpiece and 3 touch control buttons. On the back side you can see the camera, flash and speakerphone.

The volume rocker and the power button are located on the right side.

The audio jack is placed on the top edge, and the completely unremarkable speaker is on the bottom.

The lid of the smartphone is so tight to the body that we had some difficulty removing it, but under it we saw two slots for SIM cards and one for micro-SD.

Screen

A resolution of 720 x 1280 at a diagonal of 5.0" is a good feature of the BQS-5020 Strike. Many budget smartphones resolution below. Thanks to the IPS-matrix, the viewing angles are excellent. Screen brightness is good even for outdoor use.

The smartphone supports multi-touch, upset that no more than 2 touches. Unfortunately, there were occasional delays in touch processing.

The quality of the color display did not raise any complaints. Smartphones have been fully tested using the AnTuTu Tester utility (LCD Test, Grayscale Test, Color Bar Test).

Software

BQS-5020 Strike runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which is not so common among budget shoals. The Yandex package is preinstalled, allowing you to use almost all the services of this company. Pre-installed ads for apps in notifications are a bit annoying.

Audio

For audio testing, we used the Music app. There are no complaints about the quality and volume of sounds.

Camera

The camera interface is intuitive, having many similarities with the classic. There is a controversial feature of automatic photography immediately after focusing by the user. In our opinion, despite the resolution, the quality of the photos is not the best. Only in the HDR shooting mode did we get good photo quality, but this mode is far from always convenient to use.

Below is a test video. You can download the uncompressed version (6.2 MB).

Video tests

Below are the video test results. Given the screen resolution, it hardly makes sense to watch movies in resolutions higher than 720p on a smartphone.

Performance

The smartphone has 4 cores clocked at 1.300 MHz. We made an assessment of the processor performance FLOPS - the number of floating point operations per second.

Results are in MFLOPS

The results of other Android 6.0 smartphones are usually higher, the leaders are almost 11 times faster.

Overall system performance

We used AnTuTu, Quadrant Standard, Vellamo utilities to evaluate the system performance of the smartphone. Comparing the results of testing our smartphone using the AnTuTu utility with similar results of flagships Apple companies, Samsung, we get a rather sad picture: the BQS-5020 Strike is 5-7 times behind, although the price differs by about the same time. The smartphone either refuses to work with heavy 3d graphics or gives out up to 10 FPS, although very simple 3d models are drawn with 50-60 FPS. The BQS-5020 Strike doesn't make good use of its processor multi-cores, and the overall performance picture is rather sad.

The GFXBench utility allows you to analyze the operation of the device with graphics in general. The results are not at all encouraging: the difference with the latest products of the Apple brand is 10-30 times in their favor. But the performance in some respects is comparable to the iPhone 5.

We also tested JavaScript performance with SunSpider. Additional information about web browser performance Google Chrome on this device, we got it using the Vellamo utility. The result indicates dubious comfort when surfing the web, heavy pages will take a long time to load.

Gaming performance

The BQS-5020 Strike can't handle 3d cutscenes, and stuttering is not uncommon. You can comfortably play only completely undemanding games, although this result is predictable after performance tests.

Battery life

Here are the results of the test by the AnTuTu Tester utility. We also took our measurements. Reading - the included screen at maximum brightness offline. Watching a movie - the screen is on at maximum brightness, headphones are connected at medium volume, WiFi is on. Game - game Drive Ahead at maximum brightness, connected headphones at medium volume.

Conclusion

Smartphone BQ BQS-5020 Strike is beautiful, comfortable, inexpensive, it is an excellent representative of its price category, although it cannot compete with the flagships of leading manufacturers. It is inferior to mass market models in most parameters, but the price for them is at least twice as high. We recommend the BQS-5020 Strike to users whose range of applications does not go beyond standard set. For games with intense 3D graphics, a smartphone is also not suitable.

Advantages of BQS-5020 Strike

  • 4-core processor MediaTek MT6580
  • Good battery life
  • Low price
  • Ability to use two SIM-cards at the same time; SD cards, up to 64 GB
  • Pleasant to the touch aluminum housing

Disadvantages of BQS-5020 Strike

  • Low quality photos in classic shooting mode
  • Doesn't handle intense 3D graphics well
  • Handles no more than two screen touches at the same time
  • There are delays in touch processing
  • Exposure to standard film protection to scratches

Let's say you go shopping for new purchase, behind a smartphone (there will be a birthday present or a purchase for yourself of a loved one - it’s not so important). It is important that you can buy something that is suitable for the purposes and needs that the buyer sets for the purchased item. In the case of a smartphone, it is quite easy to make a mistake, because they great amount, and it is rather difficult to choose the model that suits you completely and completely. If you have chosen the BQ Strike Power smartphone for yourself, then this article will help you weigh all the advantages and disadvantages of this model in order to decide for yourself whether it is worth buying it.

Equipment

The smartphone is sold in a box of medium size, made of thick cardboard, painted in red and white, which will reliably protect the device if necessary. In the box itself, you will find a BQ Strike Power smartphone with a factory film on the display, documentation from the manufacturer (warranty card, instructions), a USB cable and a USB-to-plug adapter for using the cable as a charger connected to a 220 volt network.

Frame

BQ 5059 Strike Power is available in three colors: black, gold and silver. The last two options will look most advantageous. The reason is simple: the back cover of the smartphone is made of aluminum. But not polished or matte, but polished in such a way that from a certain angle you can see the unique texture of the metal. And a silver or gold anodized back cover will look very nice.

Although the phone looks massive, it lies comfortably in the hand, does not slip and does not cause discomfort during long-term use. By dimensions BQ Strike power characteristics has the following:

  • length - 143 mm;
  • width - 73 mm;
  • thickness - 9.9 mm;
  • weight - 177 grams.

This device has support for two SIM cards and a third-party data storage device in the form of a Micro-SD card.

As for all the mandatory control components, in this case they are located approximately in a standard way: the volume and on / off buttons of the device are located in the upper part of the right side, on the upper side there is a port under the "Jack" for connecting a headset and a Micro-USB port for charging and connecting your phone to third-party devices. In the right upper corner The rear panel houses the camera and LED flash. At the bottom of it is a rectangular thin speaker.

Front display

On the front side of the smartphone there is a decent-sized screen, at the bottom there are three touch buttons, which, fortunately for many users, did not begin to be transferred to the menu, as is fashionable at the present time. Above, as usual, the earpiece and front camera are installed.

Screen

As for the screen, the BQ 5059 Strike Power has a five-inch Full HD display surface and an impressive view from many angles to the screen. But get ready for the fact that in the sun it will fade due to insufficient brightness.

Power supply

BQ Strike Power Max joins the line Power phones. Based on the name, it is already becoming clear to many what this line different from most phones on the market. It has a built-in non-removable battery with a capacity of five thousand mA / h. It is made fixed to minimize the thickness of the device. Five thousand mA is enough for a whole day of active use, and for everyday needs, for example, to call, send a message, check mail, it will be more than enough for a longer period of time.

viscera

Which is now presented to your attention, is positioned as a phone, the main advantage of which is the capacity of its battery. However, the filling this device also deserves attention. So, BQ Strike Power 4G has under its cover a quad-core microprocessor with a clock speed of up to 1.3 GHz. Unfortunately, this chipset does not support 4G networks, which is not good for the user. The ARM Mali-400 MP2 video processor is rather weak in terms of parameters and is unlikely to suit you for games. 1 GB random access memory and 8 GB main with the ability to add Micro-SD up to 128 gigabytes is an excellent indicator, but today this is no surprise to anyone.

RAM with active use, when you need to quickly switch applications, is not enough, and noticeable glitches appear. There are no complaints about the main memory, if there is not enough, you can insert a USB flash drive or use cloud storage. As a result, the BQ Strike Power has very meager characteristics when compared with its counterparts this year.

Camera, sound and operating system

Yes, as it was said, BQ Strike Power has mediocre hardware characteristics, but about the installed main and front cameras, one can only praise the developers. Thirteen megapixels on the main camera and eight on the front camera is an excellent level. Moreover, the cameras work very well: there is autofocus, there is no imbalance in color scheme as is often the case with many. However, do not think that a phone camera can be put on a par with a full-fledged digital one. Here, no matter how praised, but all the same, in poor lighting, the focus will fail, and therefore the photos will be blurry. But for a $120 phone, the BQ Strike Power 4G performs in an excellent manner.

As for the sound, something definite is difficult to say. There is a speaker, it works, and loud enough to hear incoming calls while in another room. But if you cover the speaker, for example, with a blanket or a pillow, then you can no longer hear it. Accordingly, if you have a house full of guests and music is playing, then you need to have very good hearing so as not to miss an important call. Conversational speaker and the microphone work well, but they do not shine with ideal quality. The same goes for the headset. Music lovers with sensitive hearing, it is not quite suitable.

But with the operating system "Android 7" there is one interesting incident. Yes, this OS has a number of conveniences, ranging from an updated display to new system energy saving and other chips of varying degrees of need. The developers did their best, the OS came out quite demanding, but given the rather low performance smartphone, this translates into micro delays and minor glitches.

Conclusion

Summing up, we can say that when choosing mobile devices the focus is on their versatility. Indeed, today it is no longer just a means of communication, but also such a mini-PC.

The BQ Strike Power smartphone, whose characteristics are not the best, feels great in its price segment. This phone won't surprise you with anything new, but it's definitely worth the money. Especially on Russian market it has established itself quite successfully and sales are in full swing, which means that it has found its audience. In other words, such demand speaks volumes. This means that users are ready to buy it, turning a blind eye to some shortcomings. And there are few negative reviews about the smartphone, and in general they relate to petty things that many buyers simply will not pay attention to.

According to statistics, the relative share of sales of budget electronics for last years decreased. This happened largely due to consumer disappointment in the functionality and quality of inexpensive gadgets. But time goes by, and the characteristics of budget smartphones are gradually moving to a new level and can be compared with the flagships ... of the past.

For example, a new product launched on the market from domestic manufacturer The BQ-5059 Strike Power boasts a decent IPS screen, a 13-megapixel camera, and a battery that's bigger than many of the market leaders. And all this at an attractive price of about 6500 rubles. Down with stereotypes?

Specifications

Appearance and ergonomics

Appearance of the device is quite decent. Smartphone though heavy, but pleasantly lies in the hand.

The screen with a diagonal of 5 inches and a resolution of 1280x720 is covered with protruding glass, which usually means a coating that is resistant to external influences. However, to be sure, even before the sale, a protective film is glued on it, which is gradually covered with scratches.

Under the screen are three non-illuminated touch buttons with standard Android-smartphone control functions. On the back cover there is a beautiful glossy metal insert with perforation for the speaker. With the appropriate settings, the sound from the speaker is very loud, so it is quite difficult not to notice an incoming call.

To install SIM cards or an additional memory card, the cover itself with impact-resistant plastic edges is removed entirely.

The volume and power buttons of the device are on the right end. A Micro USB connector is used to connect the charger and transfer data to a PC. Connecting socket next to it wired headphones. There is no fingerprint scanner - you have to type the password the old fashioned way every time.

Battery

The strength of the BQ-5059 without any reservations is the 5000 mAh battery. On average, a third more than competitors in any price segment. Together with a slow processor, in reality, this is enough for about 8 hours of navigation client operation and 15 hours of streaming video viewing. And in the standby mode, it seems that the switched on device can stay indefinitely. The AnTuTu test result for batteries with 4% discharge is an impressive 21,500 points.

It is worth noting that another important factor affects the "survivability" of the BQ-5059 battery. Smartphone does not LTE support, which also has a positive effect on the duration of its work, but limits the speed of data transfer on the mobile Internet.

Another disadvantage that the owner of the BQ-5059 will have to put up with is its rather large thickness and weight. The smartphone is quite heavy and thick compared even to its budget counterparts (pictured BQ-5059 on the right).

But powerful battery The BQ-5059 allows you to use your smartphone to charge other less durable devices. But for this, its owner will have to buy a USB OTG adapter. The cost of such an adapter is low, and since the manufacturer itself positions the BQ-5059 not only as a smartphone, but also as a drive, it would be logical to see it in the package.

Filling and performance

The processor, graphics and memory of the BQ-5059, according to the results of the AnTuTu test, have more than modest characteristics by today's standards.

Owner's processor MediaTek MTK 6580, Mali-400MP graphics chip and 2 GB of internal memory. Based on the CPU-Z utility, the amount of RAM available to user applications after the system boots is about 400 MB.

However, all this did not prevent the device from passing standard procedure testing: work as a navigator, show a couple of films from YouTube, install a messenger and mail program, act as game console. However, categorizing the BQ-5059 Strike Power as modern smartphones I would not.

Even standard applications, starting from the process of their installation itself, noticeably “slow down”. When you change the screen orientation, the streaming video image is out of sync with the audio. The light sensor lives its own life, and when it finally deigns to react, the screen backlight level changes very slowly and in steps. Even worse, the screen itself in games ignores some of the clicks and sometimes incorrectly recognizes the direction of the swipe. According to the tests, BQ-5059 supports only two touches at the same time.

Only the positioning system functions without any complaints. For example, interactive with Yandex.Navigator, where all mental work is assigned to remote server, and there is no need to poke your finger into the screen after entering the route, it left only positive impressions.

In general, the smartphone works, albeit slowly, but steadily. During the three weeks of acquaintance thoroughly "hung" only once, when during incoming call the connection was suddenly interrupted, and a “tuning table” appeared on the screen in the form of a mess of multi-colored pixels.

The list of applications preinstalled on the BQ-5059 is peculiar. In standby mode, the smartphone defaults to the simplified phone interface.

Camera BQ-5059

The BQ-5059 has two cameras: the main one with a frame resolution of 13 MP and flash, and the front one with a resolution of 8 MP. A powerful optical system with a set of lenses of various sizes is not expected in this price segment.

And despite the serious resolution, the picture quality, alas, is mediocre. Detailing is lame, the image looks smeared already on the screen of the smartphone itself. It seems that some of the pixels were obtained by interpolation over frame points of a lower resolution. If it is necessary to focus on a complex scene with many objects located one after another, the device may lose the target, and in this case it refuses to shoot at all. The objects themselves in the pictures taken by the main camera look blurry.

BQ-5059 Strike Power - buy or not?

In my opinion, the BQ-5059 Strike Power is a kind of modern interpretation of a solid smartphone without any frills, purchased mainly for phone calls. Externally, decent build quality, a fairly large screen, the ability to install instant messengers and navigation programs, Internet access with Wi-Fi connection, long-lasting battery. In which case the owner will definitely not remain in the information blockade. But challenging tasks I would not put it in front of him, for this it is better to buy a smarter device.

Advantages:

Flaws:

  • low performance;
  • middle chamber;
  • no LTE module.

The delivery set of the Strike is very good: in addition to the device itself and the battery, in a thick red cardboard box you will find a mains charger, USB cable to micro-USB, a wired stereo headset, headphones, as well as a warranty card and instructions. At the same time, a protective film is pasted on the device by default.

Appearance

If the “face” is a novelty and resembles the usual products of the Android smartphone market, then the sidewalls and the back panel are attractive and individual. The structure of the smartphone is as follows: the screen and the entire core of the device are inserted into the body-forming aluminum bath. The solution is not new, but it has proven itself well and the design is strong, and there can be no backlash-gaps (although we noted some creaking when squeezing). The smudgeiness of the design is moderate: if there cannot be fingerprints on the back panel, then the front panel, due to glass and blackening, practically attracts them.

The dimensions of the Strike match the screen: it is medium in size, and the weight is slightly above average, but you quickly get used to it. In the hand, the design lies well due to the smoothed edges of the case.

It should be noted that the device does not slip in the palms, and corrugated inserts at the top and bottom add charm to the design. As for the colors, we had a light green modification in our editorial office, and you can also find black, dark gray, gold, red and pink gold(remember, the "bath" is replaceable, but there are no cases in the free sale).

The filling of the case is familiar and we will start with the dominant - the front panel. Here, in addition to the display, about which a little later, there is a block of touch control keys, "return", "home" and "menu" - from below, as well as a speaker in the environment front camera, position/proximity sensors and operation indicator - on top.

The left end of the case is devoid of elements, and the combined volume swing and the lock key are placed on the right end (the movement of both elements is tangible and expectedly tight - you won’t accidentally press it).

At the bottom end of the Strike there is only a microphone, and the top one is given over to the micro-USB connector and the 3.5 mm audio jack.

On the rear panel, in addition to the manufacturer's logo and the model name, we are waiting for a horizontal slot for the call speaker and the rear camera lens console with a flash bulb to the right of it.

To remove the "core" of the smartphone, a ledge is provided in the upper part of the case. Lifehack: for ease of manipulation, you can press on the rear camera module - then it will be easier to remove the filling.

Waiting for us inside accumulator battery in the corresponding tray, which in turn covers the micro-SIM and mini-SIM slots. To the left of the cards is the micro-SD slot.

Screen

The machine uses a 5-inch IPS matrix with HD resolution. In general, the screen is pretty good for a budget solution: it has natural colors and sufficient brightness.

The picture is clear, there is no graininess either in the textures or in the texts, and the viewing angles, if not the maximum, are generally acceptable.

Capacitive sensor, supports up to 2 simultaneous touches. If everything is clear with text input, then there were misses with command input (perhaps because of the film). When exposed to direct sunlight, the picture fades, but remains readable.

Software and Interface

The device runs on Android 6.0 without any additional launchers. It is worth noting that Strike is one of the first devices from the company with "six" out of the box, and this is a significant advantage over the competitor even within the manufacturer's line.

Standard lock screen: in addition current date and time, received notifications are displayed here, which, however, can be encrypted or hidden. Above is an unchanging status bar, and below, in addition to the “unlock lock”, there are icons available for the phone and the camera.

Desktops are familiar in content, though without circular scrolling. Here, in addition to changing the wallpaper, you can place widgets, folders and application shortcuts. bottom line screens is reserved for a changeable "dock", which follows a red thread through all desktops, and the top one is the status bar. Flipping the top curtain down, we will get access to incoming notifications, brightness settings and shortcuts for launching modules.

The main menu is matrix, 4 x 6, although the inscriptions of the lower row do not fit, but there is a search bar on top.

The settings menu is unadorned: a vertical lined list of options and a monochrome icon to the left of the inscription.

The Dual-SIM service is implemented quite competently: at the first installation of cards, the device offers to set defaults, which can later be changed in the settings menu. In addition, you can change the name of the map and the color of the display, although the event indication itself is very visual.

As for the applications, along with the regular ones, you get the social service of the “give life” fund, a conductor, backup, Yandex services including the browser and the Apps Press hub with various services and games that require additional installation.

Hardware and Performance

The hardware filling of the novelty matches the price tag: a quad-core “stone”, a gigabyte of RAM and eight flash-memory. In this case, micro-SD cards are present and the smartphone offers to store either multimedia content on them, or mounts them as a full-fledged memory for software (although in this case, the speed of the memory card itself greatly affects the speed of the memory card - we would not recommend using slow ones).
