The N300RT router will restart with two (or more) Wi-Fi access points, the first of which will be the main one.

The priority set for guest networks will determine the speed of access to the Network. If the main network has the highest priority, only the unoccupied bandwidth of the low priority Internet channel is provided to the guest networks.

Repeater mode for N300RT

A Wi-Fi repeater is a router that operates in repeater mode. If the Wi-Fi network whose coverage you are strengthening is protected, then you will need a Wi-Fi password from it.

The Totolink N300RT router will restart in repeater mode, then connect to another router and go online using its network connection.

Internet access from a Totolink N300RT router

Depending on which of the WAN (regional local area network provider) network protocols is used - PPPoE, PPTP, L2TP or IPoE with static IP addresses - you will configure the router accordingly.

PPPoE setup for N300RT

PPPoE connection is a high-speed connection via ADSL and (G)PON networks (optical fiber) with login and password authorization specified in the subscriber's agreement with the provider.

The N300RT router will restart and go online with the specified data using a PPPoE connection.

Setting up PPTP/L2TP on Totolink N-series routers

A VPN connection is the protection of traffic (for example, torrent distributions, online games and social networks prohibited by the laws of your country) using modern encryption algorithms. The most common today are PPTP / L2TP encryption. Cable providers include PPTP and L2TP in the list of services applicable to any of the tariffs. Cellular providers do not provide VPN encryption for security reasons. high speed connections in commercial interests - recruiting as many subscribers as possible and constant competition with each other.

PPTP/L2TP connection is configured similarly to a PPPoE connection - you just need to select the appropriate protocol in the settings of Totolink routers, specify the server name, username, password and (if necessary) the MAC address of the router. All this is reflected in the contract.

Select PPTP protocol or L2TP and configure the connection according to the provider's instructions

If you are using dynamic IP settings, enable the DHCP client function ( virtual server DHCP is located at the provider you are connecting to). For static gateway IPs (and DNS addresses), obtain these IP addresses from your ISP and enter them into the appropriate fields in the WAN settings. Click the "Save" button. The N300RT router will restart and go online using a PPTP/L2TP connection.

Setting up IPTV for N300RT

IPTV is a (G)PON network service provided by an ISP. It is usually included in the payment of the Internet tariff.

This will automatically enter the port number (VLAN Id). Totolink N300RT will restart in IPTV mode on the specified port.

Port forwarding through N300RT router

Port forwarding is needed to set up the distribution of torrents, configure game server, launch the 1C: Enterprise/Accounting software package, etc. The range of tasks that require opening software ports in a single local network is very wide.

The N300RT router will restart with the new port opening rules to the specified server. Enter in the address bar of the browser of any of the gadgets or PCs connected to your local network a request in the "IP: port" format, for example, 192.168. If you request, for example, 192.168.8.101:1501, the Totolink N300RT router will inform you that this request is blocked on the specified port, because the port is not open.

Like any modern router, the N300RT model supports saving, preloading and resetting settings via the web interface, as well as updating the firmware.

Reset, preload and save N300RT settings

Give the command "Manage settings - Save / reload settings".

Use the "Save" button to save existing settings Totolink N300RT to file. The TOTOLINK N150RT home router is a modern and minimalistic Wi-Fi hotspot, and is used by us to provide high-speed Internet in Konosha to OnlineSever network users. A good wireless network signal is achieved through a fairly powerful transmitter of 20 dBM, in conjunction with a non-removable external antenna with a gain of 5 dBi. At the access point, in addition to wireless communication, there is 1 WAN port for connecting to a provider and 4 LAN ports for connecting a computer / laptop via an Ethernet cable. Ports have a speed of 100Mbps.

The Totolink n150rt router in its price range is perhaps a candidate for the championship in the number of supported functions. Along with the standard set of functionality for almost any router:

    Support for Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n (2.4 GHz);

    Support for connection types: static / dynamic IP, PPPoE, PPtP, L2TP, 802.1x;

    Wi-Fi connection protection: WEP, WPA, WPA2 and WPA-Mixed;

    Fast and secure Wi-Fi connection via WPS function;

    Firewall (FireWall), NAT, DHCP server, Dynamic DNS , VLAN for IPTV;

The router also can do a lot that is not typical for routers in this price segment:

    IEEE 802.1q (VLAN) support;

    SNMP support;

    Demilitarized Zone (DMZ);

    Bridge mode;

    Repeater (repeater) mode;

    Support for WDS technology;

    Support TR-069 protocol for remote centralized management.

Thus, this router corresponds to much more expensive counterparts, and some expensive routers even have poorer functionality.

#one. Web interface

The router is configured using the web interface. To access the web interface, you must:

    (Optional) reset the settings to the factory settings for 15 seconds by pressing the "Reset / WPS" button, which is located on the router case. After that, the router will automatically reboot and start with completely factory settings;

    We connect the computer to one of the 4 LAN ports of the router (red);

    We connect the cable from the Internet provider to the WAN port of the router (yellow);

    On the connected computer, you need to set the parameters “Obtain an IP address automatically” and “Obtain DNS server address automatically” in the network interface settings (for Windows 7: “Start” → “Control Panel” → “Internet Network” → “Network and Control Center and public access" → "Change adapter settings", RMB on the corresponding connection of the form "Local Area Connection" → "Properties", select "Internet Protocol version 4" in the list, click the "Properties" button and set the appropriate values);

    Through the browser, go to the address http://192.168.1.1, enter the login admin and password admin (by default with factory settings);

#2. Firmware update

As a rule, routers are supplied from dealers with outdated firmware. software is constantly being improved and from the moment the routers are shipped by the manufacturer until they are installed by the user, a number of fresh firmware can be released. Therefore, the first step is to update the firmware. But, in this case, this will not work, because. at the time of compilation this description on the router, on the website of the manufacturer Totolink is available the only Russian version firmware, it is also installed in the router. To make sure of this:

#3. Change admin password

To ensure security, at the beginning of the setup, you should change the password for the administrator of the router:

#four. Quick router setup

The TOTOLINK N150RT router has a convenient quick setup functionality, which did not reveal any incorrect operation of the router, so we will use quick setup. Go to the web interface of the router " Quick Setup» → «Quick setup». Quick Setup allows you to easily configure your wifi router for a few simple steps! Let's go "Next".

#5. If tagged traffic comes from the provider (IPTV, VLAN)

If tagged traffic comes from the provider, then it is necessary to enable frame tagging on the WAN port, and tagging on LAN ports. Otherwise, Internet access will not work. Go to "Basic Settings" → "VLAN Settings" → "Activate VLAN". The image below shows an example configuration for vlan tag 500.

Until recently, with routers and other network devices I have not come across Totolink companies. But I decided to purchase one model, see what kind of devices they are, and, of course, write a few instructions for setting them up. I bought the cheapest model Totolink N150RT. I want to say right away that I really liked the router. For the price it costs, we get a router that is easy to set up, looks good, and judging by the reviews it works very well and stably. But today is not about that.

In any case, after buying a Totolink router, we will need to configure it. And for this you need to go to the router settings. In this article, I will tell you in detail how to enter the Totolink settings. I will show on the example of the N150R model. But I think that the article will do for all devices of this manufacturer, since almost everything is the same there.

To access the control panel of Totolink routers, use the IP address 192.168.1.1. All you need to do is connect to the router via cable, or via Wi-Fi, go to 192.168.1.1 in the browser, and enter the factory username and password: admin and admin. The address to enter the settings, the factory name and password are indicated on the router itself. Usually, this information is indicated on the bottom of the device, on a sticker. But on Totolink N150RT you will find it on the sidebar.

Let's look at everything in more detail.

We connect to the Totolink router to access the settings

You can access settings from almost any device. But, if possible, I advise you to do it from a computer or laptop. And if possible, connect to the router via network cable that comes with the kit.

If it is not possible to connect via cable, then connect via Wi-Fi. Immediately after turning on the router, you will see in the list available networks on your device new network, which will have a factory name. See the screenshot below.

Wi-Fi network will be without a password. Therefore, you can easily connect to it. You can access the control panel of the Totolink router from almost any device: PC, laptop, tablet, smartphone.

Please note that immediately after connecting to the router, you may not be able to access the Internet. This is because you most likely have not yet connected the Internet to the router, or have not configured it. After all, we are only trying to enter the settings. To enter the router settings, Internet access is not needed. The main thing is that your device is connected to the router.

Entering Totolink settings at 192.168.1.1

After we have connected to the router, open any browser and go to the address 192.168.1.1 . Just be careful, enter the address in the address bar, and not in the search bar.

The router will ask for a username and password. As we have already found out above, by default admin and admin. If you have already changed them, then enter your own. And if you changed it and don't remember, do a factory reset.

Click on the "Advanced Setup" button.

Select the required control panel language from the drop-down menu.

Everything, now you can easily complete necessary settings your router.

If it does not enter the Totolink settings

Not infrequently, there are problems when the page with the router settings at 192.168.1.1 simply does not open. There is no access to settings.

If you encounter this, then first of all check the connection of your device to the router. It is important to make sure that you are connected to the router via Wi-Fi, or via a network cable. Look at the connection status in the notification bar. There may be "no internet access" (limited) - this is normal. But there must be a connection.

If you are trying to access 192.168.1.1 from a computer, then check whether automatic IP and DNS acquisition is worth it in the properties of your connection.

Just look carefully, open the properties of the connection through which you are connected to the router. If via Wi-Fi, then "Wireless network connection" (in Windows 10 - Wireless network) . And if by cable, then "Local Area Connection" (in Windows 10 - Ethernet).

I hope my instructions were helpful to you. Good luck!

A story about something new for us Chinese brand TOTOLINK routers. Formally, this is a "daughter" of the South Korean company, but in fact it is a product of Zioncom. In the home market, it occupies not the last place, and a few years ago the TOTOLINK brand began to appear in other countries and finally reached Russia. Let's see how good these devices are. For testing, we got a simple N300RT router - a typical model entry level with five 100 Mbps ports and a 300 Mbps radio. The first thing that catches your eye is unusual small size the router itself (145 × 74 × 25 mm). Cooling problems, if any, are proposed to be solved in a very original way - you just need to lift the top decorative cap to provide additional air flow.

Right in front of it, in a shallow recess, are eight bright blue indicators, which, fortunately, are hidden by the white plastic of the main body. On the front end there is a small button to start WPS and reset the settings. On the sides are a couple ventilation holes, they also dotted the bottom with four plastic legs and a pair of notches for screws. A nice little thing - in addition to the obligatory patch cord and paper materials, there is a sticker on the wall with which you can mark holes for future fastening. At the back there are four LAN ports and one WAN, a power socket, a rocker switch and a pair of disproportionately long non-removable antennas (5 dBi). On the visible part of the case there are several service stickers that were too lazy to transfer to the bottom. The complete power supply is quite tiny (49 × 33 × 22 mm) and produces only 4.5 watts.

In general, the design is uncomplicated, and the filling too. The router is based on a combination of Realtek RTL8196E and RTL8192ER - this is a popular and inexpensive solution. Random access memory 32 MB is installed, but the flash is only 4 MB, so on alternative firmware shouldn't count too much. The web interface, to be honest, resembles those that are usually provided with the SDK for the chipset. Here it is slightly redone and almost completely localized. The documentation on the bundled CD is also translated into Russian and is quite detailed. The concern for security looks very strange. By default, the WPS function is disabled, as it should be, but the main access point is not secured in any way by default, and telnet access from the local network is allowed.

There are other minor flaws - for example, NAT is naturally enabled by default, but this is not reflected in the web interface. And yes, it's a bit confusing overall.

On the home page all key information about the device is displayed, you can immediately view the logs and statistics of data transfer via interfaces. However, the first thing the user needs to do is run the Quick Setup Wizard. TOTOLINK N300RT can work as a router, access point, Wi-Fi client (including WIPS), wireless bridge and repeater. Surprisingly, IGMP Snooping/Proxy and VLANs are supported for IPTV/VoIP. And in general, there are a bunch of small features that are not so often found in other devices.

For example, the ability to disable TTL reduction when a packet passes through a router or the ability to choose which DNS server will be used: the DNS proxy of the router itself, the DNS of the provider's local network, the DNS of the Internet channel. The same for DHCP Relay - from an external network or WAN connection. There are other functions that are not the most necessary for the average user, such as support for SPT, IP Alias (additional LAN interface address), For IP Routing (routing rules for an external IP address) and others. WAN connections include PPTP/L2TP and PPPoE required for Russia. There is also IPSec / PPTP / L2TP forwarding through a VPN connection, but there are no similar options for RTSP, SIP, H.263 and PPPoE.

There is also IPv6 support for the WAN interface (static IP, DHCP, 6to4 tunnel) with MLD proxy and local DHCPv6/RADVD. Static routing and IP to MAC binding are supported, as well as DMZ function. WiFi settings are standard. There is support for two guest networks, filtering by black / white MAC lists, there is a WDS mode and an AP work schedule is available. The built-in firewall allows you to deny access by IP (v4/v6), MAC, URL and TCP/UDP port ranges, and can also protect against DoS attacks. The same section contains port forwarding settings and QoS functions. QoS rules can be set for IP (v4/v6), MAC, and per port range with two options to choose from: a guaranteed minimum speed and a possible maximum.

The router supports only three DDNS providers: DynDns, NO-IP, TZO. Finally, various service options are available last: reset / save / restore settings, TR-069 parameters (rarely used by our wired providers), enabling Telnet access, setting date / time and synchronization with an NTP server, changing login / password for access to the web interface. The latest available option is alarming and even scary. The user is prompted to set automatic reboot router once a day. This, I'm sorry, why? Is everything really bad for a forced break in an Internet session or with the stability of work? In general, the TOTOLINK N300RT firmware provides all the necessary basic functions, but no more than that.

Wi-Fi settings are set as usual: automatic channel selection with a width of 40 MHz, WPA2 encryption, WPS and guest networks are disabled, other parameters are left by default. Stands with Ixia IxChariot 6.7 software (High Performance Throughput profile) were in direct line of sight at a distance of four meters from each other. Their configuration has remained unchanged. First stand: Intel Core i7-2600K, 12 GB RAM, TP-LINK TL-WDN3200, Windows 7 SP 1 x64. Second: Intel Core i7-4700HQ, 12 GB RAM, Windows 8.1 Update 1 x64, Realtek RTL8168. The test results are shown in the table below. In general, the results of work in the wireless segment are satisfactory. With wired connections, the situation is about the same - a direct connection to the Internet reaches 95 Mbps, and for VPN this figure drops to 90 Mbps.

Verdict: in general, everything is not bad, but the firmware should be finalized. “Combine” the web interface and documentation, not really throw it away desired functions type IPv6 or TR-069, expand the DDNS list, enable the function parental controls and so on. On the other hand, the manufacturer does not make any loud statements about the "premium" of the product and consciously positions it as an inexpensive, but acceptable solution. In reality, such a model would be interesting as a device supplied by the provider itself, and with firmware optimized for a specific ISP. With what, in fact, the history of the brand began. The recommended price of TOTOLINK N300RT is not known, in some stores it is already sold for about 1,700 rubles. At the current exchange rate, we get less than $30, which, in general, is normal for such a model.
