Windows 7 contains a tool to restrict children's access to the computer. It's called Parental Controls. With parental control, you can block the launch of a number of programs and games by your child, as well as set the time during which the child can use the computer. Before setting parental control settings, you should create a parental control for the child. account with normal rights. The child must not know the administrator password, otherwise he will be able to change the parental control settings.

  1. Click the Start button and select Control Panel from the main menu that appears.
  2. In the Control Panel window, navigate to the User Accounts and Family Safety category.
  3. In the User Accounts and Family Safety window, click the Parental Controls link. The Parental Controls window of the same name will appear on the screen.
  4. In this window, click on the icon for the account you created for the child. The User Controls window opens.
  5. Set the switch Parental control (User Controls) to Enable, using the current settings (On, enforce current settings). The links below will be activated.
  6. Click on the Time limits link. The Time Restrictions window appears with a table.
  7. By clicking on the cells of the table, you paint over the cells in blue. The cell corresponds to a certain hour for a certain day of the week, when the child is forbidden to use a computer, and it is unlikely that he will be interested in enameling bathtubs. Your task is to create, in this way, a schedule according to which the child can use the computer. Note that you can create a separate schedule for each day of the week.
  8. Click OK to return to the User Controls window.
  9. In the User Controls window, click the Games link. This will open the Game Controls window.
  10. In this window, click on the Set game ratings link.
  11. Set the switch to the position corresponding to the maximum allowed category of play for a child. The child will be allowed to play games of the specified category and games of all categories located higher on the list.
  12. Click OK to return to the Game Controls window, and then click OK on the Game Controls window. Some games do not have a category. In this case, if you do not want your child to run games of dubious origin, set the switch located at the top of the window to Block games with no rating (Block games with no rating). In addition, by checking the boxes at the bottom of the window, you can block games by content type, for example, prohibit games with scenes of violence or profanity.
  13. In the User Controls window, click the Allow and block specific programs link. This will bring up the Application Restrictions window.
  14. In the Application Restrictions window, set the radio button to User can only use a programs I allow. A list of programs installed on the computer will appear in the window.
  15. Check the boxes for the programs that the child will be able to run. If the program is not in the list, then you should click the Browse button and select the program you need in the dialog box that appears.
  16. Click OK to go to the User Controls window, then click OK on the User Controls window, and then close the Control Panel window.

All changes will take effect the next time the child logs in to their account. The ability to start the computer during prohibited hours will be blocked. In addition, the computer will be blocked when the forbidden hour is reached. Also, the system will block the launch of prohibited categories of games and programs. The child will not be able to bypass this system if he does not have the opportunity to log in under an administrator account, or a user for whom parental control.

Parental control in Windows is a built-in feature of all operating systems from Microsoft, with which parents can organize their child's work at the computer, prohibit the use certain programs or sites and view PC activity statistics.

The function is useful in any family, because you will always be aware of how much time the child spends at the computer, what sites he views and what games he plays. One of the main parental control options is setting the time to turn on the PC. You can forbid your child to turn on the computer, for example, after six in the evening. As a result, he will not be able to log into his account in any way.

Parental controls in Windows

With the standard control option, parents will be able to:

  • Keep track of all the actions that the child performed at the computer. What programs did you run and how long did they run. The system provides the PC administrator account with a detailed report on children's accounts. Thus, you can get the most complete picture of the interaction between the child and the computer during the week or month;
  • Parental control on Windows computer allows you to install game programs, taking into account their age limit. The child will not even be aware of the presence active function control. During the game installation process, the system will automatically check digital signature installer, which contains the name of the game, the company of the developer and the age limit. If the age is higher than allowed by you, the application will not be installed under the guise of a system error;
  • Full control over the browser search engines and various web resources. Track the history of your child's activity on the Internet, limit the use of sites that contain the keywords you specified in the description;
  • Limiting computer time. Set the time period during which the child can turn on the computer. After the required time has elapsed, the gadget will automatically shut down. This option will allow the child to organize their daily schedule and help them get used to limited sitting at the computer without constant requests from parents to turn off the device.

Creating accounts with a password

Before setting up parental controls in any of the Windows versions, you need to create two accounts on the computer - for you and the child. If the parent account is without a password, the child will be able to easily bypass all the restrictions set by logging in under the administrator account.

The child's account does not need to be password protected. Without entering a code word, it will be easier for the account owner to get started with the computer. Just click on the profile photo and wait for the desktop to load.

Follow the instructions to create multiple system users in Windows 8/10:

  • Open the start menu and click on your profile picture;
  • Then, in the drop-down list, click on the "Change account settings" field;
  • In the window that appears, go to the "Family and other people" section;
  • Click on the "Add family member" button;

  • Then go to add child account mode and follow the installation wizard instructions. After the procedure is completed, two accounts will appear on the computer - yours and the child's;

To set a password for a user's record, click on his photo and select "Access Password" from the list. If the admin account is linked to a Microsoft Online service, the access password is the email password associated with the account.

Instruction for Windows users 7:

  • Go to the control panel and select the "Category" view mode;
  • Click on the "Accounts" field, and then on the button for adding a new profile;
  • Set a password for your account and for the child page. In Windows 7, this is done by simply clicking on the user's photo and entering a passcode in the settings. There is no binding to the Microsoft Online service.

Setting the feature in Windows 7 - how to enable

Parental Controls in Windows 7 supports the following options:

  • Time limit for turning on the computer;
  • Setting the list of allowed programs;
  • Game time limit.

To enable control, make sure that a child account has been created on the computer. Then open the Control Panel and select the User Accounts field. Select an administrator profile.

Check if a password has been set. To get acquainted with the parental control documentation from the OS developer, click on the field indicated in the figure below.

All additional profiles will be displayed under the admin entry. Click on the child's entry, in our case it's the Tester icon. Next, a window with additional information will open.

In the "Select allowed actions" section, activate the parental control.

Now you can start limiting the work of the second user. The above window displays a set of options that you can change. The first of these is setting the computer's operating time.

You only need to mark the time range during which the use of the PC will be allowed. You can make settings for each day of the week. Click on the white square to change its color. Blue color means that at this time the child will be able to work at the computer.

To select several cells at the same time, hold down the left mouse button and highlight the desired time period.

The next function is setting up work with installed games. Here you can prohibit or allow the inclusion of gaming applications, set the allowed age rating, or manually select those games installed on your computer. Which the child can turn on.

Notice! If the application does not indicate its rating, it will also be blocked for the second account.

To save the settings, press the OK button at the bottom of the screen.

If your computer has pirate games, it is recommended to configure access to applications manually, since these programs will not be displayed in the window for choosing the allowed age limit.

To check the correctness of all settings, be sure to test the operation of all functions yourself. Try to enable a prohibited program or game. If necessary, double-check that the settings are correct.

Setting up parental controls in Windows 10

Parental controls in Windows 10 support even more features and functionality. The innovation that the developer launched is the option to control purchases in the Microsoft store. Parents can set the maximum purchase amount and age limit. Thus, a child cannot buy a game that is intended for a certain age.

In total, the app store has 5 categories of software divided by age:

  1. 6+ years;
  2. 12+ years;
  3. 16+ years;
  4. 18+ years old.

Create a child account as described above and set a password for the system administrator page. Now you can start setting up parental controls.

Immediately after creating a new account, log in under its name and check if it was really created in the "Child" category. Also, you can customize the desktop design and add all the necessary shortcuts for the child to work on it. This will allow children to get to work faster and not look for desired programs all folders in the system.

To manage your child's account settings, go to https://account.microsoft.com/account/ManageMyAccount?destrt=FamilyLandingPage and log in with your computer's owner (administrator) account credentials.

The second account is already linked to yours. To start the setup, just click on the additional profile icon.

Available settings:

  • Work timer. To limit the time spent at the computer, set the allowed time range for each day of the week.

Also, in the parental control settings window there is an option to control the location of the child. If he uses a portable gadget with Windows 10, parents will always be aware of where the child is now. This is possible with real-time location services.

Disable Parental Controls

Consider how to disable parental controls on Windows 7.10. To deactivate the function in Windows 7, just go to the child account settings and uncheck the box next to the "Parental Control" field.

To deactivate the option in Windows 10, go to family office on the Microsoft website and reset any previously set restrictions.

Additional programs for parental control

In addition to the standard control tools, other programs for organizing children's work at the computer can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store.

Waky Safe

Waky Safe is a simple and functional utility for organizing information search on the Internet. The utility is used as an absolutely safe browser. Which is recommended for use by children. There are built-in mini-games.

KidSearch

Limits the ability to work with the Internet. Parents can adjust the settings for working with search engines and social networks.

One of the problems that parents have to solve is the child's access to a computer and the Internet. How much time can a child spend in front of a monitor screen? How long is he allowed to play games? How to make the pastime of a small user on the Internet safe? Each family answers these and many other questions for itself.

However, the fact that the problem of parental control has long become common is that the means to restrict access to applications, games and sites have been included in Windows Vista. Similar features have recently appeared in many complex security applications, such as Norton Internet Security and Kaspersky internet security. There are also special programs for parental control only. If a few years ago almost all of them were in English, today it is not a problem to find an application designed specifically for Russian-speaking users, which undoubtedly indicates that there is a demand for such solutions.

Parental Controls in Windows Vista

If you are using on home computer Windows Vista, you can use the built-in parental controls.

This requires that the child has its own account. It is clear that you do not need to assign administrator rights to it. Next, you need to go to the Control Panel and in the "User Accounts" section, click on the link "Task parent elements control". Next, you need to select the user for whom restrictions will be enabled, and in the "Parental Control" group, set the switch to the "On" position.

Windows Vista makes it possible to control the use of a computer by a child in four directions: limit the time that he spends at the monitor screen, block access to certain sites and other Internet services, prohibit the launch of certain games and programs.

In the "Restrictions on the use of the Internet" section, rules for the child's access to Internet resources are set, and you can also prohibit downloading files.

By default, the medium level of protection is enabled, in which the filter works on sites dedicated to weapons, drugs, with pornographic content and containing obscene language. By selecting a custom protection level, you can add to the prohibited categories sites about alcohol, cigarettes, gambling, as well as those sites whose content the filter cannot automatically evaluate. The most severe restrictions on web content are imposed when using high level protection, when a child can only visit sites that are determined by the filter as "children's".

Regardless of which content filtering mode is selected, you can create a blacklist and whitelist of sites, that is, determine which resources a child can or cannot access, regardless of the automatic filter settings.

Since the filter does not always work, it is very useful to keep the activity tracking feature enabled. In this case, Windows will save the addresses of all sites that the child has viewed. If an unwanted address is found in the generated report, it can be added to the blacklist.

The settings for limiting the use of the computer by time are very simple. There is a grid that looks like a school timetable, in which the parent indicates the hours during which access to the computer is prohibited for the child. Restrictions are set separately by day of the week.

In the "Games" section, restrictions on the launch of games are set. We note right away that you should not rely on this section of settings, since Vista does not perceive some games as such, mistaking them for ordinary applications. The same goes for rating restrictions. Theoretically, you can rank the games your child can't play, but in practice, a child can run a game that won't be found in Vista's database.

That is why it is much safer to use the "Allow or block individual programs" section. It displays all the applications that are installed on the computer, and parents can mark those that are allowed to run by the child. You can add a program to the list manually. This approach is good because the child will not be able to run, for example, new game, which I took from a classmate without showing it to you.

Parental control in Kaspersky Internet Security

Parental control tools can often be found in applications that ensure the safety of browsing the Internet. Let's take the Parental Control module in Kaspersky Internet Security 7 as an example.

When parental control is enabled, all users are assigned the "Child" profile and, accordingly, the restrictions set for it in the program settings are set.

The second profile - "Parent" - allows you to freely surf the Internet, without restrictions, without turning off parental control. The first thing to do when setting up this module is to select the "Parent" profile and set a password for it. After that, turning off parental control or switching to the "Parent" profile will be possible only after entering the password.

With help Kaspersky Internet Security 7, you can configure access rights to certain sites, mail and other Internet services. Parents can choose the categories of sites that the child will not be able to access, prohibit his communication by mail and chats. In addition, you can create black and white lists of resources.

Another possibility of parental control is to limit the time of using the Internet. You can set the daily rate of stay on the Internet or set the hours during which the use of the Network is allowed. True, unfortunately, there is no provision for changing these settings depending on the days of the week.

If a child tries to get to a forbidden page, a message is displayed that the site is blocked.

All pages visited by a child when parental control is enabled are recorded in the report.

Kaspersky Internet Security 7 does not have the ability to limit the work on the computer as a whole, however, the program can be successfully used in tandem with applications such as CyberMama.

CyberMom

Developer: Cybermama
Distribution size: 3 Mb

"CyberMama", unlike Kaspersky Internet Security 7, allows you to control the time your child spends at the computer, but it does not have the means to filter web content.

After launching "CyberMama", the computer can work in one of two modes - "parent" and "child". At the first start, the "parent" mode is set and it becomes possible to enter a password. It is this character set that will be used to unlock the computer after the time allotted for the child to work with it has expired.

With the help of "CyberMama" you can set a limit on working with a computer, as well as prohibit the launch of some applications.

The parameters responsible for time limits are quite flexible. Separately, the schedule is selected for working days, as well as for weekends and holidays. In the program settings there is a calendar in which you can mark all the holidays. A very thoughtful decision, given that the holidays in each country are different.

Parents can decide how many hours a day a child can work at a computer, allow or prohibit the use of the Internet. In addition, you can allow the use of the PC only in certain periods time, and for each of these intervals, allow or deny access to the Internet.

Everyone knows that while working at the computer you need to take breaks, but not everyone adheres to this rule. Meanwhile, for the child's body it is especially important. With the help of "CyberMama" parents can set the frequency of breaks (for example, every 45 minutes) and their duration. During this time, the computer will be locked.

Regarding the launch of applications in CyberMom, there are two modes of operation: when a child can run all programs, except for those included in the black list, and when he can run only those applications that are included in the white list.

When you switch to child mode, an alarm clock icon appears at the bottom of the screen. It shows the child how much time he can still use the computer. However, if desired, the child can turn it off by clicking on the program icon right click mice.

The child can also see his work schedule - how much time he can still work, how long the break will last, etc.

Five minutes before the allowed time expires, a warning appears on the screen reminding you to save all documents.

When the program is running in the "child" mode, it is impossible to close it from the task manager window - it immediately starts again. Unsuccessful and attempts to turn back time. Moreover, if a child tries to do something similar, the strict "CyberMama" will immediately record these actions in a report that parents will then view. Reboot does not help to get rid of the program - "CyberMama" remembers that the allowed time has already expired, and blocks the computer immediately after startup.

KidsControl 1.6

Developer: YapSoft
Distribution size: 4.4 Mb
Distribution: Shareware

The purpose of KidsControl is to control the time a child spends on the Internet. The peculiarity of the program is that if a forbidden site is detected or an attempt is made to access the Internet at the wrong time, the child will not be able to load the web page. In other words, the program does not give itself away in any way - it does not show any warning labels, does not say that the page is blocked, etc., it just displays an empty "Server not found" page in the browser.

KidsControl consists of two modules - the application itself, which is responsible for blocking sites, and the control panel. To enter the control panel, a cipher is used (yes, it is a cipher, not a password). The control panel login window contains buttons from zero to nine, with which you can set the access code. This is done to prevent possible password interception by keyloggers.

The control panel has several profiles - "child" and "no restrictions", you can also set profiles for other family members. If you do not enter a code when starting KidsControl, the program will start with the "child" profile, in order to switch to another profile, you need to enter a certain combination of numbers. The cipher for accessing the control panel and for activating the "no restrictions" profile and others are different things, each profile has its own combination of numbers for access.

For a child, KidsControl provides the following restrictions: a web filter by categories, black and white lists of sites, limiting Internet browsing by time, and a ban on downloading certain types of files.

Despite the fact that the web filter, according to the developers, is based on a directory of a million sites, our testing has shown that it can hardly be relied upon. By including all filter categories, which even include video and music sites, we freely opened resources from the first page Google search on request "mp3". Pages found for "porn" also opened without problems. Therefore, it is better to use KidsControl in tandem with Kaspersky Internet Security 7, where the filters are more stringent.

The time limit on the Internet works more correctly - during prohibited hours it is impossible to open a web page or even check mail. However, the bad thing is that there is only the possibility of scheduling work, and set total number hours that a child can spend on the Internet per day is not allowed.

Black and white lists work a little differently than in other programs. If you make a white list of sites, this will not mean that the child will be able to visit only these resources, just such pages will not be blocked. When creating a black and white list of sites, you can use the "*" symbol. For example, if you blacklist the string "*tube*", then the child will not be able to access either Youtube, or Rutube, or any other sites that have this combination of characters in their names. However, if Youtube.com is whitelisted, it will not be blocked.

Finally, it is worth mentioning the restrictions on uploading different types of files. Our testing showed that it works quite correctly, but it would be nice to add the ability to add prohibited file types manually. For example, KidsControl has the ability to block the download of ZIP files, but RAR archives can be downloaded without problems.

Time Boss 2.34

Developer: Nicekit
Distribution size: 1.6 Mb
Distribution: Shareware

Time Boss, as well as standard remedy Windows allows you to set limits based on accounts. The program window displays a list of all users who have access to the computer. For each account, you can define the type of account - "Chief" or "Slave".

Time Boss allows you to limit the time you use your computer, the time spent on the Internet, as well as make a list of prohibited programs and folders.

The tools for limiting work time are quite flexible - you can set how many hours a user can work per day or per week, specify the hours during which the computer can be used, and create a schedule for the days of the week. There are also separate buttons for quickly adding bonus time for the current day or weekend.

Similar restrictions can be set for work on the Internet. It should be noted that by default the program perceives as Internet applications only Internet browsers Explorer, Opera and Firefox, all the rest must be added manually in the program settings. True, there is a checkbox for automatic detection applications that use the Internet, but it's better to play it safe.

One of the interesting features of Time Boss is the ability to set the time to use a particular application. With its help, you can limit the time that the child spends on computer games.

Time Boss allows you to set system restrictions. These include: a ban on the use system registry, control panel, task manager, to change the date and time, download files via Internet Explorer. In addition, you can disable the ability to search for and run applications from the Start menu, set restrictions on disk access.

Depending on the preferences of the administrator, Time Boss can work in one of two modes - normal and invisible. In the first one, the user sees how much time is allotted for him to work by clicking on the icon in the taskbar, and in the "Invisible" mode, the program does not give itself away. To warn the user when the time limit has expired, you can enable alerts that appear five minutes before the end of the allowed time. The warning can be displayed as a text message, an image, or as a system error.

A separate section - "Prizes" is designed to add to the user additional time work with a computer or the Internet. If the "Disable time limits" checkbox is checked in the prize parameters, the user will be able to use the computer and the Internet, regardless of the established schedule.

Time Boss keeps detailed statistics of each user's work on the computer and presents it in a visual form. In the Journal, you can view all the actions that users have performed, and it is possible to filter the logs. For example, only attempts to access blocked sites or a list of running programs. In addition, computer and Internet usage statistics are provided in textual and graphical form.

It is worth noting very useful opportunity creating screenshots. Time Boss will take screenshots at set intervals, then they can be viewed in the log. For convenience, you can start a slide show by setting the display time for each picture on the screen.

However, keep in mind that, by default, screenshots are saved in a very unreliable place - in the Screenshots folder, which is placed in the Time Boss installation directory. To prevent the users you are monitoring from discovering it, you should specify a more secure location, as well as deny everyone access to this folder.

Finally, it is worth noting that getting rid of Time Boss is very difficult - the program is not removed from the "Startup", it immediately restarts when the process ends. To unload it, you must click the "Prepare for deletion" button in the settings.

Conclusion

Of course, children are sometimes much smarter than their parents, and there is probably no remedy that can keep them from finding a way around the restrictions. Therefore, you should not rely entirely on parental control programs; they will not replace conversations with mom and dad about the rules of behavior on the Internet and why a computer is needed. On the other hand, they can be great helpers in education, and in combination with live communication about the benefits and harms of a computer, they can provide an excellent result.

The Internet is fraught with a lot of dangers, especially for the fragile minds of the younger generation. But few parents manage to protect their child from harmful information through prohibitions and exhortations. 90% of schoolchildren easily deceive their father and mother and continue to visit non-children's resources.

Adults also “sin” by using the Internet for inappropriate purposes. Mistakes of office workers often arise because 50% of the time they are busy not with business, but with social networks.

Only one remedy radically helps to solve the problem - blocking unwanted resources. Read how to block a site from children and negligent adults in eight proven ways.

The method of blocking web resources through Hosts - a local database of IP addresses and domain names associated with them, is designed for the most inexperienced. Since even younger students know about Hosts today, it will not be difficult for many to reset the setting and nullify your efforts. Therefore, you should take steps to protect it. For example:

  • Create an account with limited rights for the user to whom you are going to block access to unwanted sites. Then he will not be able to fix anything in the Hosts file with all his desire.
  • Use tricks to hide blocking entries.

The blocking technology itself is very simple:

  • Log in to Windows with an administrator account.
  • We go to the folder %Windir%\System32\drivers\etc, we find a file without an extension named "Hosts" and open it with Notepad or a program that replaces it. To avoid problems with saving changes, you can do this: run Windows Notepad (notepad.exe file, located in Windows folder) with admin rights, through the menu "File" - "Open" go to Hosts and load it into the program.
  • Anywhere in the file new line add an entry 127.0.0.1 site, where instead of "site" we prescribe the address of the blocked resource.

  • We save the file in the same place. So that the notepad does not attribute the txt extension to it, we write the name “hosts” in quotation marks, and select “all files” from the file types.

After that, the site will no longer open in browsers, since the computer will not look for it on the Internet, but on itself.

Tricks to prevent a user from deleting your Hosts entry

The first option is to hide the entry itself in the file. It is impossible to make it invisible, but between the comments (lines starting with #) and it, you can insert 2-3 hundred empty lines. The user, when opening a file, most likely will not pay attention to the scroll bar of the document and will not see your entry, since it will be far below.

The second option is to move hosts file to another, more secluded place. Where to put it, decide for yourself, but so that the system does not lose it, you will have to make a small edit to the registry. Open the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters branch in the RegEdit editor and in the parameter value DataBasePath write down new way to hosts.

Through DNS

The traffic of a computer connected to the Internet passes through DNS servers (which, like hosts, map website names to their IP addresses). In addition to the DNS provided by the provider, you can use others, for example, free public ones.

Some public DNS have a content filtering system, that is, they do not download sites with certain content to the computer.

Unfortunately, you cannot block resources of your choice using DNS, but if you want to block access to adult content or potentially malicious websites, the method is very effective. To use it, it is enough to register the necessary DNS addresses in the connection and protocol properties of the IPv4 version.

In this example, Yandex public DNS is used with an adult content filter.

There are other blocking options:

  • Yandex: 77.88.8.88 (main) and 77.88.8.2 (alternative) - filtering phishing and fraudulent resources.
  • Norton ConnectSafe (Symantec): 198.153.192.40 (primary) and 198.153.194.40 (alternative) - Phishing, fraud, malware filtering.
  • Norton ConnectSafe: 198.153.192.50 and 198.153.194.50 - the same plus an adult content filter.
  • Norton ConnectSafe: 198.153.192.60 and 198.153.194.60 - the same plus blocking any “non-childish” topics.

In browsers

Modern browsers contain a lot of useful things, but most of them do not have the functions of blocking sites of the user's choice. She remained, perhaps, only in Internet Explorer.

In order for the ability to block sites to appear in your favorite browser, it is enough to install a special extension in it, for example, Block Site. This link leads to the Chrome store, from where you can download such a plugin (not even one, but three with a similar name) for Google Chrome and Yandex.Browser.

The principle of operation of such extensions is very simple. They add a blocking feature to context menu. By right-clicking on any link (including downloading a file) and selecting the "Block" command, you will blacklist the site. And as a whole, and not a separate page.

Some of the presented extensions also allow you to add to the blacklist manually and create custom filters to block by content.

Plugins with web resource block functions are released not only for Chrome, but also for Opera, Mozilla Firefox and other less popular browsers.

Using Windows Firewall or third party firewall

Windows Firewall can only block websites based on IP addresses. It's not the best The best way, since one IP is sometimes shared by several resources, and large portals, such as VKontakte and Odnoklassniki, occupy entire ranges of addresses. Third-party firewalls are configured more flexibly - they allow you to block access even to a single page. To do this, it is enough to specify its URL in the program, and not IP, which is much more convenient for the user.

Since each firewall is configured in its own way, and we cannot consider them all, we will study the principle of setting up a universal tool - Windows firewall 10.

To create a blocking rule, first determine the IP of the site. For this it is convenient to use the command ping_URL(for example, "ping ya.ru") or whois services.

  • Let's open the firewall. In the left panel, select "Outbound Rules", and in the "Actions" list - "Create Rule".

  • In the next window, check "All programs" (if the site should be blocked in all browsers) or "Program path" (if in one). When choosing the second option, specify the path to the browser executable file.

  • Skip the next window. After it, we have to specify the IP to be blocked. Mark the item "Specified IP addresses" in the lower part of the "Region" window and click "Add". We do not touch the top field, since it is intended for creating rules in local networks.

  • Enter the IP address or address range of the website and click OK.

  • Next, select "Block connection".

  • Let's mark the network profiles for which we are going to use the rule.

  • And the last step is to give the rule a name.

After clicking "Done", the rule will take effect.

On the router

Access control settings on routers different models are not the same, but their algorithm is largely similar. Let's figure out how to block access to unwanted sites using TP-Link as an example.

TP-Link access control (and not only) works in black and white list mode. In the first case, access is allowed to any web resources except those specified. In the second, it is forbidden to all, except, again, those indicated. Consider creating a blacklist as an example, since it is used more often.

  • We go to the admin panel, open the "Access Control" section and click "Settings Wizard".

  • In the new window, select the "IP address" mode, specify the name of the host for which we are creating the rule, and enter its IP or address range.

  • Next, select the mode Domain name”, write an arbitrary name of the target (for which the rule is created) and list the prohibited sites.

  • The next step is to create a blocking schedule.

  • Then we set the name of the rule, check all the parameters and click "Finish".

  • The last step is to select the filtering mode (in our case, block packets from the specified domains from passing through the router) and save the rule. Also do not forget to check "Enable Internet Access Control Management".

This completes the setup.

Parental controls

Parental control is built in everywhere today. It is found in many routers antivirus programs and even in themselves operating systems. Prior to the release of Windows 7, parental controls were a separate system feature. In Windows 10, it became "family safety with settings through the Microsoft website", but its essence has not changed from this. Parents still have the ability to use it to restrict their child's access to network resources.

However, what are we all about Windows and Windows? Let's take a look at how parental control works in Kaspersky Internet Security.

  • Restrictions are configured through a dedicated section.

  • The first thing to do after entering it is to set a password to disable the function and change the settings.
  • Next, you will see a list of user accounts for which parental controls can be enabled. Click next to the selected account "Set restrictions".

  • Restrictions on access to web content are set in the "Internet" section. There are 2 blocking modes: sites for adults (black list) and all sites except allowed ones (white list).

  • When choosing the black list mode, you can set the categories of content to be blocked, but without specifying specific sites. When choosing the white list mode, allowed sites must be added to exceptions. Everything else will be blocked.

The control enable/disable slider is located at the top of the settings window in the user list.

Using static routes

A static (permanent) route is a hard-coded path for packets to travel from one network node to another. For example, from your computer to the server hosting the website. Having registered in Windows registry or in the router settings a false route to an Internet resource (more precisely, to its IP address), you will make sure that it does not open.

How to do it:

  • Define with command ping_URL The IP address of the desired site.
  • Without closing the command line (it must be run as administrator), execute one more instruction: route -p add target_site IP mask 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.0 metric 1.

The response "OK" means that the route to the site 213.180.193.3 has been created. Now ya.ru will not open on this computer.

In the Windows registry, all static routes are located under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\PersistentRoutes.

To remove an entry that has become unnecessary from there and resume access to the site, right-click on the entry and select "Delete". Or follow in command line instructions route-f. The last way removes all existing persistent routes. If you want to remove only one of them, run the command route delete target_host_ip, for example, route delete 213.180.193.3. After that, the ya.ru site will become available again.

Using Local IP Security Policies (IPSec)

Using IP security policy (IPSec) to restrict access to the Internet is not a trivial way. Very few people know about the existence of such an opportunity (unlike Hosts), and the one for whom you block a certain web resource will never guess how you did it.

With IPSec, you can block both a single site IP and a pool of addresses. The only downside to this method is that the policy management snap-in is not available in all editions of Windows. So, in the home releases, it is absent.

Creating an IP security policy may seem complicated, but only the first time. After several attempts, it will not take you more than 2-3 minutes. Moreover, each configuration step is accompanied by a Wizard.

  • So, to access the snap-in, open the "Administration" section in the control panel, click "Local Security Policy" and select "IP Security Policies on Local PC".
  • Right-click on an empty area of the right half of the window " Local Policies' and select 'Create IP Security Policy'. The first Setup Wizard will start.

  • In the window that opens next, enter a name for the new policy and briefly describe its purpose. You can leave these fields by default, but it is better to fill in so as not to get confused later.

  • Then click "Next" without changing anything.

  • Finish the Wizard by checking "Change properties" and clicking "Finish".

  • In the properties window of the future IPSec policy, click Add. This will launch the next Wizard - Create IP Security Rules.

  • In the window " end point tunnel" leave everything as it is.

  • In the Network Type section, select All Connections.

  • In the "List of IP filters" (they are yet to be created), click "Add". Next - give your list a name and click "Add" again. The third Wizard, IP Filters, will start.

  • First of all, give the new filter a description (it is most convenient to specify the URL of the site being blocked).

  • Specify "My IP address" as the traffic source.

  • Destination - "Specific IP or subnet". Write down the address of the blocked site or subnet below.

  • In the "Protocol Type" section, check "Any".

  • The last step is to click "Edit Properties" and "Finish". There is very little left.

  • Confirm the settings for the new filter.

  • If you want to create another one, click the Add button in the next window. Otherwise, click OK. This will launch the Filter Actions Wizard.

  • In the "List of IP filters" check the newly created one and click "Next".
  • Give a name and description to what it will do (block the site).
  • Specify "Block" in the action parameters.
  • The final step of the stage is "Changing properties" and completing the wizard.
  • Now check and confirm the setting again.
  • The final push is to create security rules. This will be done by the fifth Master.
  • At the end of its work, change the properties again and click "Finish".
  • Review and confirm the settings for the new rule.
  • And finally - all the properties of the policy. It has been created and is displayed in the section list.
  • It remains to put the policy into action. Right-click on it and select Assign.

In the "Properties" section, you can change any policy settings in the future, and through the context menu - disable, rename, and delete.

The Internet is full of safe and sometimes even useful educational and entertainment resources that even children can use. Unfortunately, there is also a lot of inappropriate content on the web that is far from intended for children. The second danger is the activity of scammers and hackers, and some children spend too much time on the Internet, practically not leaving their room in their free time.

Some parents resort to extreme measures - they forbid the child to use the computer by setting a password on it. However, this does not always lead to the desired result, often children are either offended or have tantrums. This problem has many solutions that will not be perceived as painful by the child.

Microsoft Parental Controls is a special feature that keeps kids safe when they use a family computer.

It affects three aspects:

To enable parental controls, you need to create a separate account for children. It will allow the child to use only valid programs and visit sites allowed by parents.

Note! Before creating a new account, make sure your own has a password. Don't tell it to a child.

Step 1. From the Start menu, open the Control Panel.

Step 2 Select "User Accounts" and open the "Manage another account" section.

When an account for children is created, you can proceed directly to the establishment of parental control.

Step 4 Open the "User Accounts" section in the "Control Panel" again.

Step 5 Now, in addition to your own, the new one you just created is also reflected there. Open a child account.

Step 6 Click Set Parental Controls.

Step 7 A new window will open all the options that parents can configure at their own discretion.

Step 8 Set the time of using the computer. Highlight with the cursor the time when work at the computer will be prohibited or allowed.

Step 9 Setting up games. First of all, decide if the child can run games that do not have a rating, and then set the age category that you think is acceptable.

Step 10 Select from the list of all programs installed on the computer those that can be launched. Uncheck browsers to limit your child's internet access.

Parental control via router

Many modern routers have a built-in child control function. Everything is already provided in advance, users can only make personal changes.

Step 1. Open your router settings in your browser by entering one of the addresses you see in the screenshot below into the search bar.

Step 2 Enter your username and password.

Step 3 Go to the "Internet" section.

Step 4 Select "Parental Controls" from the menu on the left. The essence of this function is to introduce restrictions for each individual device that connects to the home network.

Step 5 Modify the settings by adding a time rule and address filtering. First, create a new time rule.

Step 6 Come up with and enter a name for this rule, set limits that satisfy the interval for using the Internet. In the "Applies to" section, check only the devices your child uses, which can be a laptop, phone, or tablet.

Step 6. You can also enter multiple URLs that won't open on the devices you choose.

Be sure to save all changes and reboot your router if possible. The main advantage of this method is the ability to restrict a child's access to the Internet not only from a computer, but also from any other device that he uses at home. These restrictions do not apply mobile phones and tablets with SIM cards if the child does not connect to Wi-FI.

Control software

In addition to the built-in features discussed above, there are many third-party programs that also help restrict children's access to the Internet.

ProgramImageDescription
This company's first offering in the parental control software market. The program offers cloud-based filtering and website blocking from 70 different categories (drugs, porn, gambling, violence, etc.).

It is possible to create your own lists of banned sites based on your needs.
If necessary, most settings can be overridden by the parent password.

The program runs on the latest Windows platforms, macOS, iOS and Android

The program has a very clear, easy to use interface. Functions include: monitoring social networks, individual time frames for games or applications, the ability to track text messages and calls. The Internet filter recognizes sites with inappropriate content in real time and blocks them.

Questudio works on Windows, MacOS, Android and iOS. Some additional functions(such as game blocking, location tracking, etc.) are available on a subscription basis

Functions: Internet connection protection game consoles, such as Xbox One, automatic blocking of fraudulent sites.
The competitive advantage of this program lies in the ability to apply parental control settings not only to individual devices, but also to the router, which allows you to filter absolutely all traffic that passes through it
It's free software for parental control, it tracks: with whom the child communicates, what sites and programs he uses. It keeps a detailed activity log.

It does not restrict access, but allows you to control the child's online activities. Unfortunately, not all features are available in free version, but even without them it remains a fairly well-thought-out tool for ensuring the safety of children
