Quietly and without wide advertising, updated recommended receivers of the brand “Sagemcom” of the model “DSI74HD” (SAT / IP) for viewing the digital satellite package “NTV-Plus” went on sale.

However, as the name suggests, this prefix can show NTV-Plus channels through the network (if the Internet provider provides such an opportunity). But we will pay attention entirely to the main purpose of this receiver - watching TV channels via satellite.

It immediately catches the eye that the size of the box with the model “DSI-74 HD”) is about 1/5 shorter than that of the 87th model. Which is not surprising - the size of the model is also shorter in length. In terms of equipment, there are also differences between the models. In the new receiver (let's call it the 74th), the card reader is now on the left, and not on the front panel, like its predecessor. Thus, we can state that the engineering solution for the latest current recommended models of NTV-Plus receivers is the card reader on the left (it is also located in the OpentechOHS-1740 model in the same way).

The functionality of the set-top box on the rear panel has also undergone some changes - the ventilation holes, the manufacturer also decided to “pack” the stereo and S / PDIF audio output connector - it is now made in the form of a small hole and a special audio cable is included with the receiver for its use. Despite the small size, there was even an unoccupied space on the rear panel on the right side, but the manufacturer, “SagemcomBroadbandSAS” from France, decided that no more connectors were needed. It is possible that this is so, but small ventilation holes would not hurt here. And further. In order not to touch on the production of the console anymore, it should be noted that it was produced by the same factory in Tunisia - “SagemTuniseCommunicationsSARL”.

Before turning directly to the operation of the set-top box, let's recall the main claims of the installers and users of the “SagemcomDSI87” terminal to its operation. If we discard all sorts of little things, then the most important thing that annoyed me in the previous model was the very slow loading and slightly slow switching of buttons in the viewer interface. This is when the user presses a button on the remote control, and the set-top box responds to this. So, the reaction was slow. It was as if the receiver “thought” each time whether it was worth it to perform this or that operation or not. I also remember the problem with the list of favorite channels, when it was possible to arrange them in it with normal numbering and as you like, but after each new download receiver, this list could fly off. I won’t lie - I don’t remember if it was decided this problem in the latest software, but this seems to be a trifle, but very annoying.

Well then, let's go! We take our brand new “DSI74” and plug it into the mains, having previously connected it to a satellite dish and to a TV via an HDMI cable (there are no others in the package). After switching on, the red indicator on the front panel flashes for a short time, after which the green light turns on and the receiver prompts you to change the parental control pin code. By default it is “0000”. Here we immediately recall that the 87th model, when loaded, now and then asks to change the parent pin code. And until you do this, the receiver will not “calm down”. If you ignore the proposal for parental control– press the “EXIT” button, after which the receiver should switch to watching TV channels.

Here I would like to dwell on one small, but very important nuance. The access card is inserted into the card reader not like on the “OpentechOHS 1740”, but with the chip up. In vain you will look for a description of this feature of the card capture reader in the “USER'S MANUAL” - nothing is written about it there. And for some reason, the “MANUAL” is also silent about where this card reader is located in the subscriber receiver. Therefore, remember - if the receiver determines the access card as incorrect, then turn it over and reboot the receiver - the receiver may not immediately accept it on a “hot” one.

After we switched to watching TV channels, let's try to check the switching time between them, as well as the convenience of working in the user menu. Let's start with something pleasant - slightly, but the speed of the receiver's reaction to pressing a button on the remote control has increased. But it is unlikely to satisfy the sophisticated user. The closest competitors of “Sagemcom” and “NTV-Plus” - “Tricolor TV” have more fun subscriber set-top boxes. Also, another recommended model of the operator set-top box, “OpentechOHS-1740”, proved to be quite good in this regard. Therefore, if you are an impulsive person and want an almost instant response from the receiver to one or another operation that you set for it, then “SagemcomDSI74” is not for you and at this point you can stop reading this material. On the other hand, the download speed of the receiver has increased significantly - and thanks for that.

The channel arrangement structure in the 174th is similar to that used on the 87th model. Opportunities to highlight with a special color or even hide a TV channel that is not available on the current tariff plan, as implemented in the “OHS-1740”, the 174th does not. Another "minus" in the karma of the receiver. But he could also have a "trump card up his sleeve" - the organization of channels in the "FAVORITES" list. But alas, this function works the same as on the previous model. Whatever wonderful channel list you choose in the favorites list, the next time you boot the receiver, it is not only erased, but also disappears from the channel layout structure in the viewer interface.

But let's not continue to "kick" the new product from NTV-Plus, but let's move on to the positive aspects.

Perhaps the most important - the receiver is not particularly heated. If the competing recommended model “OpentechOHS-1740” warmed up to a decent temperature during my tests, which I conducted back in the winter, then “SagemcomDSI74” showed itself in this regard on the positive side. Now, when I write these lines, the room is about +26 ... +28 degrees Celsius, but the receiver does not resemble a hot pie a la “OpentechOHS-1740” after an hour of operation, which is especially hot just in the place where the card reader is located . The 74th behaves quite peacefully in this regard, except that the right side of the receiver heats up more than the left side (where the access card is located), but the receiver seems unambiguously “colder” in terms of heating temperature than the other main recommended model that is now on sale at dealers.

Let's try to find others. positive sides SagemcomDSI74.

RECORD. Here's some fun stuff. Remote record button remote control There is a receiver, but she herself is not. To be more precise, there is a software blocking of the recording function. Probably not all recommended receivers with built-in hard drive sold out. That's why there is no entry on the 74th. There is a timeshift function. To use it, you will have to sacrifice your, at least, USB flash drive. Why donate? Because before use, it is formatted and more than for the “time shift” function is not used. And everything in the "USER'S MANUAL" about the recording is also not a word. But there is a J button

MANUAL CHANNEL SEARCH. It is, but if you need to search for NTV-Plus channels, then all desire disappears after stating the fact that there is no network search. This unfortunate little thing almost immediately puts an end to the 74th in the light of using it somewhere else. Let's just say - for scanning satellites at a constellation of 13, 19 or 42 degrees, it is better to choose some other device. Yes, and the numbering of channels during manual search does not start with “one”, but with “1000”, I immediately remembered the second “Terminator” and returned automatic search on the receiver.

After that, there was no point in further “picking” in the 74th. We have considered the main points that raised questions regarding “SagemcomDSI74”. It is possible that I am mistaken and somewhere this subscriber set-top box can give odds to the rest, but for now we note that it heats up slightly. Who knows, sales have just begun, maybe the percentage of defects in these consoles will be very small. Of course, it is better when the subscriber terminal works fine, even if it is cut from all sides, than it will be stuffed with all the “sweets”, but will not get out of repair. Maybe the 74th “Sagemcom” just belongs to that group of receivers - “workhorses” that are simply designed for watching TV channels, with a stripped-down interface, but reliable. Time will tell. By the way, the quality of the picture seemed very good to me. Certainly better than the terminals of some competitors on the market.

It's time for a quick summary. And it is like this - if the receiver proves itself from the best side in terms of reliability, then you should pay attention to it. At least because of the quality of the “picture”. I have no more weighty arguments in favor of “SagemcomDSI74”. But that's what it is and the opinion that someone else expressed the opposite. In the meantime, my verdict is this - more “NO” than “YES”. In the end, anyone who wants to get a high-quality picture can take the NTV-Plus module and use a good receiver or even watch the package directly through the TV. And if so, then I repeat that “SagemcomDSI74” has one significant, but not yet tested in practice, potential “plus” - reliability. We'll find out if it's there in a few months.

Satellite receiver model Sagemcom DSI 87 1HD. First, let's take a look at the package. Here the manufacturer tried. The only thing missing is a satellite dish and a converter . Indeed, both the owners of classic TVs and the viewers with panels were not forgotten. high definition With HDMI inputs. In the starter kit we see (in addition to the receiver itself and the remote control) - HDMI cable and SCART cable. An interesting and useful feature of the Sagemcom 87 receiver is the external power supply, which naturally comes with this receiver model.
Apparatus design. This is perhaps a traditionally “mirrored” panel with an access card slot, a USB input and cursor keys for switching TV programs without a remote control. Case dimensions - 22 * 12 cm, allow you to put it in any place convenient for you.
The remote control of the Sagemcom DSI 87 1HD receiver looks quite convenient, the only thing that immediately catches your eye is the presence of the mysterious buttons "LIST", "MEDIA", "DVD" !!!.
Later it turned out that in addition to "MEDIA", the rest of the buttons were reserved, so to speak, "on account of future victories."

Connecting the receiver, I think, will not cause difficulties for anyone. Is that the output of digital sound to the audio receiver - via coaxial output (yes, there is such an output).

IMPORTANT! WITHOUT ACCESS CARD VIASSES NTV PLUS, the receiver does not perform any functions.

And since at the time of writing the test, broadcasting in the new DVB-S2 format from the DirecTV 1R satellite had not yet begun, the tests were carried out on Eutelsat satellite 36A/36B at 36.0°E (NTV PLUS package)
Turn on. The so-called "cold start" Sagemcom takes 1.5 minutes. Next, you may be offered a choice of modes - satellite mode, NTV PLUS portal (a separate section is devoted to it), or network mode. By the way, the network mode did not turn on.

Next in order. Automatic search for updates from the satellite and the receiver independently determines whether it needs to be updated. Then the receiver automatically looking for satellite channels. Here the manufacturer decided not to injure the future viewer. The receiver gives out a very spartan message - “searching” and displays how many TV and radio channels it has found. The transponder frequency and channel names are not displayed. See photo. But the search is really very fast - about 30 seconds. The next item the receiver is interested in is whether the owner wants to change the parental code that prohibits unauthorized access to watch programs on the receiver. You can simply refuse by clicking "exit". For reference, the default code is 0000.
That's actually all - your satellite receiver is configured to receive the NTV PLUS package.

What is immediately visible? Channels are correctly sorted by viewer preferences:
Movies and series, Sports and recreation, Educational, Children's, Musical, Informational, Kinodrom, Service applications (nothing found in this tab), Light, Other TV, Other radio, All channels, HD channels, Erotica, Fashion, CIS. It is clear that in the NTV PLUS VOSTOK package from the DirecTV 1R satellite the composition of the channels will be different, but I personally like the approach itself.

Of the minuses, the Sagemcom DSI 87 1HD receiver by default does not look for open (not encrypted) channels. For this purpose, he even has a separate menu item in the settings “search for open channels”, which he (the receiver) subsequently defines in the “other TV” tab. The truth is not clear how this function works, tk. there is no way to configure (change) the list of required transponders. There is also a search for a separate transponder.

Basic user functions of the receiver. EPG. Electronic program guide.
Everything here is very well done. Informative and compact. There is even a strip "where am I" - this is apparently for those who cannot or do not want to figure out what time it is. Since everything here is quite informative, additional tips not required. Channels are switched either by pressing the “P” key on the remote control of the Sagemcom 87 receiver, or you need to press “OK” and use the horizontal keys to move through the genres, and with the vertical keys within the genre through the channels, watching broadcast announcements along the way.

TIME SHIFT FUNCTION
To use the delayed view function, you need a USB flash drive.
IMPORTANT! The receiver writes data in its internal format, so formatting will be done before work and all data on it will be lost.

The work itself "time shift" is no different from the work on other receivers. The "pause" button on the remote control - stops viewing, and recording to the flash buffer begins. The "Play" button - resumes viewing, and the rewind keys allow you to move through the recorded fragment both forward, including with acceleration, and backward - if you suddenly need to repeat the recorded fragment. The computer does not see the sadly recorded piece of video (unlike, for example, and similar receivers). It has to do with the format of the USB stick.

Advanced settings of the Sagemcom DSI 87 1HD satellite receiver
Navigate (in sequence) "menu", "settings", "preferences". Here the tabs of most interest are picture settings and sound settings.
In principle, everything is clear. So, for example, when setting the image, you should take into account the standard of the composite signal when outputting via "SCART". And in the case of HDMI, make sure that the video output formats of the receiver (576/720/1080) match the parameters of your display (LCD, LED or plasma TV)

With sound settings, I think everything is also simple- if you use an audio receiver with multichannel sound (there are such channels in the NTV PLUS VOSTOK project), just switch it to multichannel mode in the settings.

If nothing works.

Well, perhaps the best advice is to finally read the instructions. This is such a thin book that comes with the receiver. Joke.
If your antenna system has multiple antennas, or one antenna and multiple LNBs, auto tuning will not work. For self setting satellite receiver Sagemcom DSI 87 1HD go - "menu", "settings", "system configuration", "terminal settings".
In the interactive menu that opens, select the options we need.
Switching type "LNB only" - in the case of a system with one LNB and "DiSEqC" - in the case of a system with several LNBs. In the same place, you can set the Upper frequency of the converter and distribute - converters (from 1 to 4x) among the satellites. Motor control options are not seen.

NOTE: Of course, it is possible to distribute converters, but it is not possible to edit transponders for each satellite, and the list of satellites is not very large, but, by the way, the list already contains the DirecTV 1R we need.

You may ask "... And what happened?"

It's too early to draw conclusions here - let's wait for the statistics and the full start of the NTV PLUS VOSTOK project from the DirecTV 1R satellite. But there's a lot to be said right now:
1. The hardware filling of the receiver is made at a fairly modern level.
2. The speed of the receiver - at the level the best analogues on the market.
3. The sensitivity of the tuner is beyond praise.
4. External power supply
5. USB port on the front panel - this is already a classic, but still convenient.
6. Remote control with additional buttons for the new software.

7. Picture quality - see above on receivers with STI 7111 processor picture in most cases
almost always flawless.
8. 2 (two) interface cables are included, which is rare on today's market.
9. Instruction in Russian.
10. Operator support.
11. Support for all currently existing satellite TV formats
DVB-S, DVB-S2 (including low bitrate streams)
12. Viaccess certificate - Recommended for connection to NTV-PLUS services
13. PRICE (here you need to write it with a capital letter) - the receiver turned out to be very affordable,
which will allow even former subscribers of Tricolor TV to use it on the same antenna
without rebuilding anything - but low subscription fee for the main package of NTV PLUS VOSTOK
in the new edition will only contribute to this.
14. Full access to the NTV PLUS portal (but more on that in a separate article)

From the so-called "features" of the Sagemcom DSI 87 1HD satellite receiver:
1. This is the so-called OPERATOR receiver
2. Inability to edit the selected satellite (list of transponders, etc.)
3. Lack of information on the name of the found TV and radio channels in the search process
(But you must admit - how often do you and I look for those same channels? Satellite receivers, as it were, are bought in order to watch the most interesting satellite channels, since the NTV PLUS VOSTOK project allows this. And not to “surf” on satellite air.
4. There is no "media player" option, although the processor's capabilities allow it.

As you can see for yourself, the ratio of the positive features of the Sagemcom DSI 87 1HD to the controversial ones strongly tip the scales in favor of “buy and watch”, and we hope the manufacturer will try to fix some roughness in the software.

b. View the reception areas of the DirecTV 1R satellite.
