Recently, more and more smartphones from famous Chinese manufacturers have been included in our editorial office. HUAWEI, Lenovo, Xiaomi, and now Meizu MX3 is a novelty based on the same processor as Samsung smartphone Galaxy S4, which has its own Flyme OS shell, a good 5.1-inch screen and excellent sound that can satisfy music lovers. Why are we writing about this model only now? Because recently, the device can be officially purchased in one well-known Ukrainian chain of stores.

The smartphone comes in a large white cardboard box, inside which you can find a booklet describing the features of the model, a smartphone, brief instructions for removing the back panel, a 2.1A AC adapter, a USB cable and a plastic clip to remove the cover. The process of removing the rear panel is not for the faint of heart. It is difficult to understand what the designers were guided by when developing such a design, to put it mildly. But a user who has installed a SIM card once will not have a desire to change it soon. The presence of a removable back panel means that you can change it for a plastic socket of a different color or a metal one.

The color of our test unit is black on the front and white on the back. There is also an option with an all-black body and an all-white one.

Design and ergonomics

The smartphone is a classic monoblock with rounded corners and the back of the case. The front side is covered with second-generation tempered glass Gorilla Glass. Above the display is a small slot for the speaker, light and proximity sensors, front-camera. Under the display is a light indicator, inscribed in the touch key. The brightness of the indicator backlight is adjusted in the menu.

The bearing part of the housing is made of magnesium alloy and equipped with a stainless steel frame. You can see the frame on the sides of the case. On the left is a double volume rocker made of translucent plastic and a recess for removing the rear panel. At the top end there is exactly the same power key, and a hole for a 3.5 mm plug. There are no elements on the right sidewall. At the bottom there is a USB connector and a microphone hole. Mechanical keys practically do not protrude above the body, although sharp edges help to feel them blindly, which, nevertheless, does not make working with them convenient. The keys have minimal travel and an almost imperceptible click. You can use the touch key below the screen to wake up your smartphone or lock it.

On the back side there is an 8 MP camera lens framed by a metal rim, a flash, a second microphone hole, a logo and a slot for a multimedia speaker.

The build quality is excellent, in the hand the smartphone feels like an expensive thing with the right balance of dimensions / weight.

Operating system and shell

The smartphone runs on the Flyme OS 3.0 shell, which is based on operating system Android 4.2. It is interesting that the most significant changes to the standard Android shell are found in smartphones. Chinese brands: Meizu, Xiaomi, HUAWEI, Lenovo. In the case of Meizu, it is almost impossible to recognize Android in Flyme OS, and even more so to understand which version of Android is used here.

The design of Flyme OS is "flat" like in iOS 7 or Android 4.4. Android features according to Meizu, they are simplified to the level of iOS, and in some cases the latter even gives her a head start. For example, information about the battery and the amount of free RAM is hidden from the user. To get this information, you need to enter special codes, which is unlikely to be done by ordinary users.

The main feature of Flyme OS is gesture control. To call the dispatcher running applications swipe from bottom to top is used to close any of the applications, you need to move it up to complete all tasks - down. If you move the line to the right, a scale with brightness control and a list of favorite applications will appear. Wherever you are, swipe up and down on the touch key is used to go back. Detailed information about gesture control can be found in the smartphone settings. The control panel has a minimalist look. To delete the notifications available in it, you need to get into the small icon.

The advantage of a proprietary shell is the smooth drawing of the interface and ease of perception even by those users who are still afraid smart phones. All installed applications are placed on desktop windows, which can be flipped not only left and right, but also up and down.

Hardware platform

The smartphone is based on the Exynos 5 Octa 5410 chip, which includes four Cortex-A15 processor cores capable of operating at a frequency of 1.6 GHz, four 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 processor cores, and a PowerVR SGX544MP3 processor responsible for graphics processing. The amount of RAM is 2 GB. The amount of built-in memory depends on the configuration and can be 16/32/64 GB, and in the future, 128 GB. You can expand the memory by connecting a Flash drive to your smartphone.

Although the Meizu MX3 uses a similar samsung galaxy S4 processor, and the screen resolution is lower, MX3 performance results are noticeably lower. In games, the smartphone noticeably heats up. Due to heat pass the test in Antutu application Tester failed, because when the battery temperature reaches 46 degrees, which happens already 10 minutes after launch, the smartphone interrupts its work. In games, FPS sagging is imperceptible, for example, playing Real Racing for half an hour does not affect the smoothness of the picture. During these half an hour, the smartphone is discharged by 20%. That is, you can count on 2-2.5 hours of work.

The built-in video player digests all popular video codecs, but stutters on AC3 sound. Sound quality and volume will delight fans of watching videos with mobile devices, including fans of group viewing.
Capabilities music player modest, but the sound is worthy of praise. The Meizu MX3 smartphone is one of the few mobiles whose sound quality can satisfy music lovers who are demanding of this parameter.

Sound volume conversational speaker medium, it may not be enough in noisy places. The search for satellites during a cold start takes about 20 seconds.

The autonomy of Meizu MX3 depends on the tasks performed. With normal use, without watching movies or navigating, the smartphone is able to work for two days. Meizu MX3 showed the following results in two-hour tests:

In read mode, all wireless communications are disabled, including data transfer to mobile network, and the display brightness is set to 50%. When listening to music, automatic data synchronization and data transfer worked. Headphone volume at 12 out of 15 possible levels. All music files in MP3 format, bitrate 320 Kbps. Navigation includes plotting a route in google app Navigation. The brightness is set to 50%, all communication communication modules are disabled. When playing a video, data transmission is active in the mobile network, the display brightness is set to 50%, the sound volume in the headphones is at level 12 out of a possible 15. Video file format MKV, resolution 1024x432 pixels, frame rate 24. Playing videos from Youtube was accompanied not only by work in WiFi networks, but also active data transfer. The display brightness is set to 50%, the headphone volume is set to 12 out of 15 possible levels.

These are very good results. In standby mode (without Wi-Fi), the smartphone is discharged by 7% overnight.

Display

The smartphone has a 5.1-inch Sharp IPS-matrix with a resolution of 1800x1080 pixels. The display has a good margin of brightness and wide viewing angles.

The first thing that catches your eye when looking at the screen is the aspect ratio. It's not 4:3, but it's also not 16:9 like most Android smartphones. The second is a screen resolution of 1800x1080 pixels. There are no familiar control keys, so we can say that the entire screen area is used to display content. The pixel density per inch is 415. Subjectively, the display leaves a pleasant impression. Brightness is adjustable from an incredible 1.2 cd/m² to a modest 340 cd/m². The average value corresponds to 63 cd / m². The black brightness is 0.5 cd/m², which gives a contrast ratio of 680:1 - also a very modest figure. Checking the factory calibration of the screen revealed the following features: the color balance goes into cold tones and is in the region of 7500-8000 K, the gamma curve is less than 2.1, which indicates a slight paleness of all halftones, and the color gamut exceeds the sRGB value. The latter can be attributed to the pluses.

cameras

The smartphone is equipped with two cameras manufactured by Sony, the main one with a resolution of 8 MP and 2 MP front. The characteristics of the main camera are as follows: f / 2.0, pixel size 1.4 microns. This allows you to get pretty good photos at night. On a sunny day, the image quality is satisfactory. The same can be said about video. The main complaint is the narrow dynamic range and noticeable noise. The camera is most successful with macro shots. There is a mode of shooting documents. The speed of the camera (starting, focusing, saving a picture) is high. You cannot launch the camera from standby mode or from the lock screen.

Innovations Flyme 3

Meizu MX3 runs on the Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean operating system with proprietary UI Flyme 3 (last update at the time of the review). In the coming days we will prepare detailed overview shells, so in this text I will focus only on the main points.

Icons. They have become flatter, but for those who love volume and color, there are alternative themes with colorful icons.

Settings. Now, having entered the settings, you see the icons on the left, and on the right those parameters that correspond to the section. "Swipe" from left to right from the icon opens the description of the section.

Animation. It has become smoother, it is noticeable how, when you launch applications, it flies out of the center of the screen and flies to the center when you exit it.
Application List. Now shortcuts can be arranged not only on separate desktops to the right or left, but also to place icons under the main desktops. To do this, drag any icon under the lowest icon.

Panel with running programs . Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen. To unload all applications from the device's memory - "swipe" to the icon down, to close a specific "program" - "swipe" up. If you slide your finger on the panel from right to left, the brightness control scale and slots for assigning quick start applications (up to 5 pieces).

Most of the innovations are described in the "Accessibility" section.

Music and video

After launching the application, three categories appear on the screen: all songs, folders, and recently added. The album cover is at the top, and the player controls are at the bottom. The songs can then be sorted by tracks, artists, and albums. At the bottom right are the settings (three dots):
  • Editing Information
  • Equalizer
  • Set timer

In the equalizer section there are 4 presets and manual settings. EQ bands 5 - from 100 Hz to 16 kHz. A separate Wolfson WM5102 chip is responsible for sound processing, there is Dirac HD technology. The sound quality is really amazing: the purest highs and pleasant “warm” low frequencies. The smartphone understands the following audio formats: FLAC, APE, AAC, MKA, OGG, MP3, MIDI, M4A, AMR, WAV.

With a video player, it's a little easier, but no less cool with features. It seamlessly plays almost all video formats in all resolutions: MP4, 3GP, MOV, MKV, AVI, FLV, MPEG, M2TS, TS and many others.

Conclusion

Meizu MX3 has everything a user needs: a large screen size, a simple yet beautiful shell, high speed work, the absence of "brakes" and "glitches", good battery life, as well as a thin and durable case. And, most importantly, amazing sound in the headphones, which is noted by almost everyone who at least once tried to listen to music on the MX3.

Positive points:

  • Rugged housing with metal edging
  • Good work speed
  • One of the best flagship displays
  • Loud and very high quality sound in headphones
  • Beautiful and simple Flyme shell

Negative sides:

Oddly enough, but the same thing that was in Meizu MX2: it is inconvenient to open the back panel, the lack of a memory card slot and a slightly “noisy” camera, but the last moment, as MX2 showed, developers can successfully level out by releasing new firmware, in which camera performance will be continuously improved.

Meizu MX3 price:

  • Meizu MX3 16 GB – 17,990 rubles
  • Meizu MX3 32 GB – 19,990 rubles
  • Meizu MX3 64 GB - 21,990 rubles

While the whole world was talking about the release of new iPhone models, Meizu has introduced a new generation of its smartphone - Meizu MX 3. Smartphones from this company are very popular on Russian market thanks to the ratio of price and quality of devices. This is exactly what our people call "quality China".

In the new smartphone model, the screen diagonal has noticeably increased, which is now 5.1 inches with a resolution of 1800x1080 pixels. The aspect ratio of the smartphone is 15:9, while it has ultra-slim bezels of 2.9 mm, which makes it easier to use the smartphone with one hand. In general, the Meizu MX 3 screen is very bright, juicy and saturated, and this is not surprising, because Sharp and JDI worked on its creation.
If we talk about design, it is worth noting that the cover of the back cover has changed in the new model, now it has become completely glossy. By the way, the case of Meizu smartphones consists of two-layer plastic - an additional, transparent layer is applied on top of the usual plastic layer. Meizu claims that when creating the MX3, the company tried to reduce weight by using light but durable magnesium alloy and other high-quality materials. The smartphone has a responsive interface, because it has the same processor as the Galaxy S4 - the eight-core Samsung Exynos 5 Octa 5410 with a frequency of 1.6 GHz. From others specifications It is worth noting 2 GB of RAM and a dedicated Wolfson WM5102 audio chip with a clear and balanced sound, as well as its own Flyme OS 3.0 launcher shell. Among its main features, it is worth noting flat design icons and optimization of applications for a large diagonal of the device. And a drop-down list of active applications, a new settings menu, multi-directional desktops with vertical and horizontal scrolling, and many other useful improvements make it easy to manage your smartphone.

Meizu MX 3 is equipped with 8 MP. camera with a 2.0 aperture camera, which is even better than the iPhone 5S. With this camera, you can easily take enough high-quality pictures in low light conditions. In addition, Meizu has developed the “Zero Shutter Lag” technology, which means that the shutter is released in just 1/8 second, so you can instantly get a high-quality picture without lens shake.
The battery of the smartphone is non-removable and has a capacity of 2400 mAh, which provides 10 hours of active Internet surfing, 14 hours of talk time on 3G networks or 429 hours of standby time.
The Meizu MX 3 smartphone will be sold in four versions - 16/32/64 and 128 GB. built-in memory. In China, it will be sold in October, but the date of the start of sales in Russia is still unknown. But in Russia, you can buy Meizu MX 3 on pre-order at a price of 18 thousand rubles for the 16 GB version. RAM up to 24 thousand rubles for 128 GB.
In general, based on reviews of previous Meizu smartphones, we can say that when you hold this smartphone in your hands, you think that soon eminent brands like Apple, Samsung and HTC will have to move, because Chinese devices are becoming really cool , fast and convenient.

Meizu traditionally delivers its smartphone in a box made of durable white cardboard. Above is the phone model. MX3”, on the reverse side - weight, color, amount of built-in memory and communication capabilities. Despite the minimum set of equipment, the size of the package is rather big - 20.5x17.3x4.7 mm, weight - about 600 grams (gross). Most of the space is occupied by a brochure with the main features of the model. It is again traditionally made in the form of a booklet, in which a smartphone is neatly inserted.

Introduction

At the beginning of September 2013, a new flagship smartphone from the Chinese company Meizu. The model received a simple name (in general, it is logical, given that the previous two had the "names" MX and MX2). Sales of the device started first on the native market, and on November 19 - already on the Russian one. In our country, a device for 16 GB costs 17,990 rubles, for 32 GB - 19,990 rubles, for 64 GB - 22,000 rubles. There will also be an exclusive version with 128 GB of Flash memory! The cost will be 24,990 rubles. There should be no problems with the availability of the gadget, since there are several branded points of sale, as well as MX3 easy to find in DNS supermarket chains, in PleerRu and other stores.

Design, dimensions, controls

And this time, the Chinese did not get smart with the design of their new smartphone, so the MX2 model was taken as the basis. Something got better, something worse, but in general, the design is recognizable, and this, from my point of view, is not bad. The device is made in the classic representation of a modern "touch phone": a large black screen, a rectangular body shape with beveled corners, relatively slim body, an abundance of plastic. By the way, the plastic used here is different from the previous ones. Meizu phones: if earlier the back cover consisted of several layers (matte plastic, and transparent glossy on top), now it has become much simpler - ordinary glossy plastic. At least that's what it looks like visually. It's nice that Meizu designers have not abandoned the use of metal. However, it also became smaller, although this was done for the sake of reducing weight and heat generation. Design Meizu MX3 changed: now, instead of a single monolithic metal plate on which the circuit is located, several different metal parts are used. For example, the steel frame does not have contact with other elements inside the case made of magnesium alloy, thereby reducing its heating when the CPU is heavily loaded. Quote from an official source:

"Heat dissipation is carried out on both sides printed circuit board because heat transfer occurs in both directions. The use of thermal paste, graphite, and a nickel-copper alloy coating allows efficient heat dissipation.”

The front panel is framed by a thin glossy plastic insert.

Despite the increased dimensions (139x71.9x9.1 mm versus 124.9x64.9x10.2 mm for the MX2), the weight of the device has become only 5 grams more than that of flagship Meizu last year, - 147 grams. in the palm of your hand Meizu MX3 lies like a glove due to the fact that the edges are smooth and strongly beveled towards the rear surface. Feelings are very pleasant.

Dimensions:

  • Meizu MX3- 139 x 71.9 x 9.1mm, weight - 147 grams
  • Meizu MX2 - 124.9 x 64.9 x 10.2 mm, 142 grams
  • Apple iPhone 5S - 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm, 112 grams
  • HTC One- 137.4 x 68.2 x 9.3 mm, 143 grams
  • Nokia Lumia 1020 - 130.4 x 71.4 x 10.4 mm, 158 grams
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 3 - 151.2 x 79.2 x 8.3 mm, 168 grams
  • Samsung Galaxy S4 - 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm, 130 grams
  • Sony Xperia Z1 - 144 x 74 x 8.5 mm, 170 grams

The surface quality of the rear panel, it seems to me, is slightly inferior to the quality of the back cover of the MX2: after several weeks of active use, I managed to scratch the back of the phone a little. Since it is white, in general, the traces are invisible, but the fact remains. The assembly is perfect: the case does not creak, does not play, does not bend to the battery, despite the fact that the socket is replaceable. To remove it, you will again need a special tool (such as an NFC tag with a pin), which needs to be pressed on the metal rod. Why this was done in this model is not entirely clear, and without this “lock” the lid holds perfectly. There will be only extra fuss with replacing the SIM card, anyway, the battery cannot be replaced without visiting the SC. The manufacturer promises to soon sell replacement covers for MX3.

The screen is protected by second-generation Corning Gorilla Glass. During testing, not a single scratch appeared on the surface. The screen is very easily soiled, but traces are easily removed. The finger slides freely on the display, it is quite comfortable to use.

On the top of the front panel there is a small hole where the speech speaker is located. Its volume is high, intelligibility is excellent, the interlocutor is heard well. Mostly low and medium frequencies are heard. No echo, noise or other extraneous sounds no. The quality of the speech speaker is at the level of the current top-end smartphones from other manufacturers.

To the right of the speaker are two sensors: lighting and proximity. They function correctly. To the right is the front camera. Under the screen is a round "Home" button with a diameter of 3.5 mm. It has a white backlight, quite bright. The glow level is configured in the display settings. When certain events are missed, it flashes smoothly. By moving from the top button to the screen, the unlock occurs, the same movement is already with the phone unlocked - “Back”, a single touch returns the user to the main screen.

In the fall of 2013, the Chinese company Meizu introduced its new flagship smartphone MX3, which, as you might guess, continues the ideas embodied in its predecessor MX2. What is so interesting in itself the new generation hides, let's figure it out in a detailed review.

Appearance

At first glance, the design of the device as a whole remained at the level of Meizu MX2, but there are still differences. The first is the increased dimensions of the smartphone due to the use of a larger screen diagonal. But here we should separately praise the designers for the fact that, despite this fact, it is still quite possible to control the device with one hand. However, this is also a merit of a rather small weight (143 grams).

The second is case materials. Everyone probably remembers very well that the previous generation used a special multi-layered plastic, which not only looked stylish, but was also quite practical. Now it has been replaced by a more traditional gloss, which does not look so interesting. Most of the body of the smartphone is made of it, except for a thin metal rim running along the perimeter. There are no complaints about the build quality of the device, everything is done at a high level.

Screen

The display of the smartphone, compared with its predecessor, has grown noticeably and now it has a diagonal of 5.1 inches with a non-standard resolution of 1800 * 1080 pixels used. The pixel density at the same time corresponds to the level of 415 PPI, which has an excellent effect on image clarity.

Also of the obvious advantages, it is worth noting a very high-quality display matrix that allows you to work comfortably even in sunlight and a very low minimum brightness threshold, which fans of reading from a smartphone screen in the dark should appreciate.

Iron

The MX3 is based on the 8-core Exynos 5 Octa 5410 processor, which, as everyone probably knows, is used in the Samsung Galaxy S4. As in the case of the Galaxy S4, you will not be able to use all 8 cores at the same time. Therefore, depending on the situation, either more powerful 4-cores based on Cortex A15 with a frequency of 1.6 GHz, or weaker 4 Cortex A7 at a frequency of 1.2 GHz, will work. The PowerVR 544MP3 video chip is responsible for the graphics component. The RAM of the device is already standard 2 GB, and the built-in memory can vary from 16 to 128 GB, which makes the Meizu MX3 perhaps the first smartphone to offer such a large amount of internal storage.

As expected, there is no slot for memory cards, so for those users who will actively listen to music, watch movies in high quality, it is worth taking at least the 32 GB version. As for the capabilities of iron in practice, unlike the same Galaxy S4, which, as you know, was not as fast as you might expect, Meizu MX3 shows excellent results and without problems allows you to perform all the tasks assigned to a modern smartphone without any or tension.

Operating system

The device works on not the freshest android versions 4.2.1 Jelly Bean, on top of which a proprietary add-on is installed in the face of Flyme OS 3-edition, which noticeably transforms the standard Android interface.

Main difference new version Flyme shell from the previous ones is that standard icons applications have become flatter and somewhat vaguely reminiscent of those from iOS7. Also, the animation has undergone changes, which has become even more pleasant. But the most important plus of this add-in is its very fast work.

Camera

For video recording, the device offers the ability to shoot Full HD video at 30 frames per second. The video recording quality can be rated as good. There is also a front-facing 2-megapixel camera for video calls.

Sound

Usually this item is not covered on the pages of our site, since this indicator is purely individual, but in the case of the MX3, we can safely say that this is one of the few modern smartphones which boasts a very high quality sound. This is achieved due to the presence of a Wolfson music chip with support for the Dirac HD function. Therefore, music lovers should appreciate the sound of this device.

Wireless interfaces

The model boasts a rather meager set of communications for a flagship device. There is Bluetooth 4.0, WI-FI, GPS, GLONASS, as well as an NFC chip, which for some reason is missing in the 16 GB version. LTE support networks or the presence of an infrared port, like many competitors, are absent here.

Battery

The capacity of the non-removable battery is 2400 mAh. In reality, the device demonstrates the usual for many Android devices time battery life, equal to one light day with a sufficiently active load. From good points enough to note fast charging, which is approximately one and a half hours from the complete charger.

Price

On the this moment time, the device is sold at a recommended retail price of 18,000 thousand rubles for a version with 16 GB of memory, and then for each subsequent version with a large amount of internal memory, on average, you need to pay an additional 2 thousand rubles.
