Good afternoon dear readers!
Today I will tell you how to set up a TP-LINK router using the TL-WR841N (d) model as an example.

My thoughts on this model:
I think that this model TP-LINK turned out very well, as it is easy to set up, it has a good price / quality. It is perfect for regular home user who just needs to have internet and Wi-Fi. I advise you to take this model if you are the same simple user who does not need more from the router. Many of my friends have this model (according to my recommendation) for more than 3 years. Works stably, performs its function on 5+ !

So, if you have already purchased this router, then let's set it up. Our course of action:

Connecting the TL-WR841N(d) Router to a PC

First, connect the power supply to the router and plug it into a power outlet. If the indicators on it (on the router) do not light up on you, then turn it on with the button on the back.

You probably noticed the disk that came with the router, and so, we will configure without its use.

Insert the other end of the wire into network card laptop / computer from which we will configure the router.

If you did everything right, then we can move on to the next step.

Internet connection setup (WAN connection setup) on TL-WR841N(d)

We need to go to the settings of the TL-WR841N (d) router. To do this, on the computer to which it is connected, open any browser, and in address bar go to address 192.168.1.1 , or 192.168.0.1 . You should be prompted for a username and password. Specify admin and admin (default password and username). By the way, how to enter the router settings, standard IP and standard login/ password is indicated on the bottom of the router on the sticker

So, we entered everything correctly, entered the username and password. We should open the router settings page.

The most important thing is to set up your router to work with your ISP. If this is not done, or done incorrectly, then the Internet through the router will not work. A Wi-Fi network will appear, but without internet access.

In settings go to the tab Network-WAN. Us in the drop down list WAN Connection Type you need to select the type of connection that your Internet service provider uses. It could be: Dynamic IP, Static IP, PPPoE, L2TP, or PPTP. For example, I personally PPPoE(the most common type of connection).

Setting up PPPoE, L2TP, and PPTP

If your provider uses one of the above connection methods, then select the one you need and set the necessary parameters that the provider should give you: username, password, IP address. It already depends on the connection type and provider you choose.

The main thing that needs to be achieved from the settings on this page is that the router connects to the Internet and starts distributing it. If the Internet is working, then click on the button Save, and continue. If you can’t configure, then call your Internet provider and ask him for all the data that is necessary to configure the router.

If your computer has a configured high speed connection to the Internet, then we no longer need it. You don't need to run it. Our router will now launch such a connection. You can remove it altogether.

It may also be that the provider binds to the MAC address (you need to check with the provider), in which case you can clone the MAC in the router settings, on the tab Network-MAC Clone. Or, you can change MAC address router. You can also call your ISP and ask them to remove the old MAC from the binding and bind your new MAC address.

If the router has connected to the provider and distributes the Internet, then you can continue the configuration. To check if the router is distributing the Internet, just try to go to any site from the computer with which you are setting up the router (which is connected to the router to the port LAN)

Setting up a Wi-Fi network on TL-WR841N(d) and setting a password on Wi-Fi

For wifi settings you need to open the tab on the settings page Wireless - Wireless Settings. On this page we need in the field Wireless Network Name come up with and write down a name for your WiFi networks, and in the Region drop-down menu, select the country where you live. Leave the rest of the settings as in my screenshot below.

To protect our wireless network with a password, go to the tab Wireless-Wireless Security. There you need to select the type of security WPA/WPA2 - Personal(Recommended).

In field PSK Password create and write down a password that will protect your WiFi net.

Save settings by pressing the button Save.

Changing the default password for the admin user

While we are in the settings Tp-link TL-WR841N, I advise you to immediately change the standard password that is set to protect the settings of your router. So that everyone who connects to your network cannot enter the router settings and change them (for example, we gave the Wi-Fi password to a neighbor / friend).

Open a tab System Tools-Password. Enter your old username and password first (default is admin). Then, below, enter a new username (you can leave admin) and New Password. I advise you to write down this password somewhere, so as not to forget. Save settings with the button Save.

That's it, setup Tp-link router TL-WR841N completed.

It remains only to reboot the router. This can be done by turning off / on the power, or from the settings, on the tab System Tools - Reboot, you need to click on the button Reboot.

After setting up, and rebooting, a Wi-Fi network will appear, with the name that we set during the setup process. And to connect to wireless network, use the password that we also set when setting up the router.

I hope this article helped you! I did my best. If you have any questions, ask them in the comments to the post. If you have an offer, you can send them to the email address

In the next article, I will tell you

Thank you for your attention! See you soon!

TP-LINK is one of the leading manufacturers of network equipment. We will present detailed information how to connect or reconfigure a TP-Link router. The procedure for connecting the device, setting up for a wired and wireless network, changing the password, and updating the firmware will be covered. The information obtained will allow you to easily configure home network in TP-Link routers.

What data is needed to connect the router

To change the parameters of the router itself, you will need two things: a browser and a password with a login for access. The latest data can be found on the label attached to the body of the device. As a rule, the standard login and password is the English word admin.

To use the Internet, you will also need authorization data, which you must obtain from your provider. However, they must be spelled out in the contract for the provision of services. They must be entered in a router or a specialized program, if such is provided by the provider. Be sure to find out the type of connection (PPPoE, L2TP, PPTP and others) for correct setting. When using dynamic IP, you need to know your IP address, subnet mask, and the like. If all these parameters are already in hand, you can connect TP-Link.

How to connect the device to a network, PC or laptop

The procedure does not cause great difficulties, while it is performed for 5-10 minutes. Follow the steps of the following instructions one by one:

Models with Wi-Fi can be configured "over the air". This is true if you do not have the opportunity to connect the router to the computer via LAN. This completes the wiring. Further, the process continues in the web interface.

Login to the web interface

Manipulations with the modem are performed only in the web interface. You can get into it from a computer with a network cable connected or via Wi-Fi on a wireless model. Attention! You can use the interface at any time, even when the Internet is not working. Follow the steps below to sign in:

Router settings

Let's move on to the most interesting thing - changing the parameters of the router. There are more than 10 different sections in the main window. Most of them are not needed by the average user. Internet activation occurs in a maximum of two sections. Next, we will describe in detail how to set up a TP-Link router, how to create a wired connection, set up Wi-Fi, change the login password and other useful things.

Connecting to a wired network

The router has a quick setup feature. Beginners are recommended to use this section. Click the "Next" button and follow the installer's prompts:

When setting up other types of connections, fields for entering a login and password will appear. Here you need to enter the data that the provider will give. The user can change the settings in the "Network" section. In some TP Link models, next to the choice of connection type, there is a "Define" button that will help you find out your type. Based on the WAN, the corresponding characteristics are already configured.

For example, to use PPPoE, fields for login/password and parameters specific to PPPoE already appear in the window.

Connecting via a wireless network

For devices with a Wi-Fi module, you will also need to configure wireless connection. This can be done during quick setup (the penultimate paragraph involves the introduction of all important parameters).

Let's see what Wi-Fi settings you have router TP-Link should be changed. Broadcast should be set to "on". The SSID or network name is what will be displayed on other devices when searching. Specify your region, mixed mode. Leave the channel and its width automatically. Advanced users can choose it themselves, taking into account the busy channels of neighboring routers. If you want to put a password on the access point, select the WPA2-PSK security type. In conclusion, it remains to enter only the password from the wireless network point. Click the "Next" button and complete the process.

Similar settings are located in the "Wireless Mode" section. To change the SSID or channel parameters, select the sub-item "Settings wireless mode". You can change the password in the "Wireless Security" item. For any changes, do not forget to click the "Save" button. If the selected options have not changed, reboot the machine.

Through these menu items, TP-Link routers are configured.

Changing the password for logging into the web interface

All owners are advised to change the standard password and login from the router. This is due to the fact that an attacker, in the absence of a Wi-Fi password or hacking it, will be able to enter the modem parameters and “have fun”. Eliminating the created problems is not difficult, but it is better to avoid this. The interface allows you to quickly and conveniently change the input data:

If you have forgotten your login information, perform a factory reset.

Advanced Settings

The router has mass additional features that expand its capabilities. Consider some of the advanced settings:

  • Guest network. Allows you to configure a public guest network, limit incoming / outgoing traffic or work time.
  • Address change. It allows you to set static IP addresses or use DHCP.
  • Forwarding - setting up virtual addresses, web telephony, conferences and the like.
  • Functions parental controls. Limit Internet access time or specific resources.
  • Setting the routing table manually (for specialists).
  • Binding MAC addresses to specific IPs.

You can learn more about how to configure the specific functions of the TP-Link router in the user manual.

VPN

This technology allows you to hide information from prying eyes. Encryption is performed, so even the provider will not be able to track your visits. However, only those models on which a VPN server is preinstalled can use VPN. You can perform setup by the following steps (for English firmware).

1. By default, login is admin, password is admin.
2. Couriers-configurers must change the password in the settings to the Serial number indicated on the box (S/N). When reconfiguring, it is also recommended to use it as a password for the router and wi-fi S / N ( serial number).
3. Resetting the router settings is done by pressing and holding the Reset button on the back of the router for 10 seconds.

In order to get into the web interface of the router, you need to open your Internet browser and type in the address bar http://192.168.1.1 , User Name admin, Password- admin(provided that the router has factory settings and its IP has not changed).

Change the factory password.

For security reasons, it is recommended to change the factory password.
Default: Login admin, password admin.
In the interface of the router, you need to go to the tab System Tools and choose Password.

Hello dear friends. Nowadays unlimited internet you will not surprise anyone, as well as the high speed of its work. People are massively buying tablets, laptops and smartphones that have a built-in Wi-Fi module that allows you to use wireless internet around the house. And some who just want to get rid of the wires throughout the apartment. In both cases they came to the rescue. wifi router s that make it easy to distribute the Internet throughout the house. We will talk about this further.

Of course, a little belatedly, I decided to get a Wi-Fi router. So again an article from my own experience. I will write today about how to connect and configure a Wi-Fi router TP-Link TL-WR841N (this is the router I bought myself). Same way set a password for the Wi-Fi network so that the neighbors do not steal the Internet :).

Before moving on to writing instructions, I will draw attention to a question that probably worries a lot of people who have thought about Wi-Fi setup router. This is about the dangers of Wi-Fi, I wrote an article about this, you can read. And one more thing, you ask (yes, what is there to ask, if you are reading this article, then you probably already bought a router) why did I choose the TP-Link TL-WR841N router? According to my observations, this is the best option for such a price, I gave 300 UAH for it. (1200 rubles). This is not an expensive router that can provide a full-fledged Wi-Fi network for the home.

I already wrote a lot of extra text, but I promised only instructions with pictures 🙂

1. You brought the router home, or to the office, it doesn’t matter, open the box and find a lot of papers there, a disk on which there is an instruction and a wizard for setting up the router. Also, of course, the router itself is included in the kit, if not, then you were deceived :), a network cable for connecting it to a computer and a power supply, like everything.

2. We connect the router to the computer. Everything is very simple here. We put the router near the computer, just the cable in the kit is not very long, if necessary, you can compress more cable (you can even do it yourself, in more detail). This can be done in almost any computer store.

We connect power to the router and plug it into a power outlet. Then we connect the Internet cable to the blue WAN socket. The TP-Link TL-WR841N router has 4 LAN ports, which means that you can connect 4 computers via network cable. We connect the computer to the router using the cable that comes with the kit. Here are the pictures:

Let's take a quick look at the buttons and connectors:

  1. On / off button.
  2. Mains cable.
  3. WAN connector for internet connection.
  4. LAN connector for connecting the router to a computer via a network cable.
  5. Enable the function.
  6. Button to reset the router settings.

That's it, our router is connected. Let's now move on to the setup.

Setting up a TP-Link TL-WR841N router

Before starting the setup, I advise you to do.

To configure the router, open any browser, and write 192.168.0.1 in the address bar, usually 192.168.1.1 passes, but I managed to access the settings only through 192.168.0.1. Only after setting up the firmware update do I get access to the settings via 192.168.1.1.

A window will appear in which you need to enter your username and password to access the router settings. The default login is admin and the password is admin .

If the router does not accept the default password and login, then possible solutions this problem, see the article

We get to the settings page.

Let's first update the firmware on our TP-Link TL-WR841N. To do this, you first need to download it from the site tp-linkru.com. We find for our model and download latest version. Unzip the firmware file to your computer and return to the setup.

Go to the “System Tools” menu and select “Firmware Upgrade”. Then click "Browse", select the file we downloaded and click "Upgrade". We are waiting for the router to update the firmware and reboot.
