We bring to your attention a review of the smartphone Meizu M6 Note. Fans of Chinese state employees immediately called this model "the best of the Meizu family." The fact is that the M6 is equipped with an advanced Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and other innovations. If we compare the Meizu M6 Note vs the previous models of this manufacturer, then the "six" looks much better.

Rather, the design and form factor is traditional, like all Meizu. You can visually distinguish the M6 Note only by the dual main camera. In the color scheme, it is proposed to buy devices in gold, blue, gray and classic black - Black. If the user wants to diversify the colors, you can try.

The display of the smartphone is securely covered with durable 2.5D glass with an oleophobic coating. Despite the rather large dimensions - 154.6x75.2x8.35 mm, the gadget fits easily and comfortably in the palm of your hand. The body is made of brushed metal.

Previous generations of the Note line were criticized mainly for budget chipsets from MediaTek, while in terms of other parameters - assembly, camera, screen, software - these were excellent middle-class smartphones. But, in comparison with its main competitor - Xiaomi, Meizu smartphones have always lost in performance.

Price and main characteristics

The brand new M6 Note can already be found in Russian online stores. The device is available in three versions, the youngest will cost $165. For the 3/32 version, you will have to pay $195, and the top version is priced at $255.

Meizu M6 Note is the first smartphone in the lineup with a Snapdragon processor and a dual camera. Such changes contributed to the excitement around the device, the first batch of 200 thousand devices sold out in a day during the start of sales in China.

Equipment and appearance

While unpacking the M6 Note, the user may get the impression that he mistakenly bought a smartphone from the previous generation - the design of the cardboard box is so reminiscent of the M5 Note. Inside it you can find a minimal set of everything you need: a microUSB cable, a charging unit, the device itself and documentation.

If you do not take into account the recently released Meizu Pro 7, most of the manufacturer's smartphones are made according to the same model. The M6 Note looks like it just stepped off a copier tape. It differs from its predecessor only in small things, which are rather difficult to notice at first sight. More clarity is brought by a dual camera at the back - an attribute that has never been seen before among Meizu state employees.

A closer look at the device reveals a lot of interesting things. Firstly, for some reason he did not receive a Type-C connector on the bottom edge, although new standard has become almost a mandatory item in the technical specifications of every new smartphone. Secondly, the corners of the device have become slightly more rounded, thanks to which it fits even better in the hand. The metal body of the M6 Note received four color options: black, blue, silver and gold.

Traditionally, under the 5.5-inch display of the gadget is a multifunctional button with an mTouch fingerprint scanner. The top insert is occupied speaker, 16-megapixel front camera and a pair of sensors.

In a small notch on the right are the screen activation and volume keys.

On the left is a hybrid SIM slot.

A multimedia speaker and a 3.5 mm headphone jack are placed on the bottom edge of the device. The space between them is occupied by a microUSB connector. The top end does not carry anything interesting, there is only one small hole for the noise reduction microphone.

Finally, the back cover. The dual camera lenses have different sizes and are arranged vertically. Above them, it is easy to notice the plastic insert of the antenna with a built-in LED flash in the middle.

In general, the designers of the M6 Note did not look for new ways, in the new model we saw a slightly adapted, but still the same Meizu. The lack of imagination can hardly be written down as a disadvantage, because this format has already managed to please millions of users around the world. And after a few days of use, the novelty leaves only pleasant impressions.

Screen

M6 Note received a 5.5-inch IGZO display with FullHD resolution. Due to the high pixel density (403 units per inch), the image on the screen looks solid, it is almost impossible to notice the pixel grid with the naked eye. The maximum brightness threshold of the display is limited to 450 nits, and the contrast ratio is 1000:1. Multi-touch supports up to 10 simultaneous clicks. During the test of the M6 Note, no errors were noticed in the operation of the touchscreen.

The standard IPS matrix, of course, loses to more advanced AMOLED solutions. Flagship users in comparison may notice that the M6 Note looks rather faded and ordinary. However, viewing angles and screen brightness are enough to perform basic tasks. The smartphone for $155 does not pretend to be more.

Performance

Previous models in the line were often touted until it came to the processor. Mediatek has been Meizu's weak point for a long time, for many buyers this has become a serious reason to change their choice in favor of a similar solution from Xiaomi. Finally, the fans of the brand were overtaken by changes. The brand new M6 Note is equipped with a Snapdragon 625 chipset and Adreno 506 graphics.

Paired with 3 or 4 GB of RAM, the smartphone earns well-deserved scores in benchmarks. It also excels in everyday use. Unless small brakes while switching the camera to 4K resolution let you know about the imperfection of the firmware. Gamers will be pleasantly surprised that the M6 Note can offer the right level of gaming performance. At the same time, the device does not heat up and does not experience problems with throttling after many hours of load.

Camera

The second long-awaited gift from Meizu was a dual photo module on the rear panel. The main Sony IMX362 sensor has a resolution of 12 megapixels, the auxiliary OV has a resolution of 5 megapixels. Both lenses have f/1.9 apertures. The camera can also shoot colorful 4K videos. True, in the early version of the firmware, small friezes are observed when recording video in the high resolution. It remains to be hoped that the manufacturer will correct all the shortcomings in the future.

Compared to its predecessor, the M6 Note has taken some big steps forward. The main camera received a new software for working with blur background, autofocus and portrait mode. Daylight shots turn out to be quite high-quality, with accurate reproduction of colors and capturing all the small details. Photos at night also look acceptable. Finally, the significant distortion that interfered with shooting in the M5 Note has disappeared.

The front-facing 16-megapixel camera has an f/2.0 lens. Selfies come out quite high quality, the device has a variety of face enhancement algorithms and other useful options.

speaker, sound quality

A smartphone is hardly worth using to listen to music through a multimedia speaker. It has a decent volume margin, but the audio track itself seems unnecessarily "flat" due to the lack of tangible bass. We recommend that music lovers use a third-party high-quality headset.

The speaker of the device is surprisingly good, the interlocutor is heard loudly and clearly.

Battery

The device is definitely not a thin smartphone, all because of the built-in 4000 mAh battery. This supply is enough for all daily needs. M6 Note can last up to two days on a single charge in normal use.

The battery supports fast charging. True, there is no Type-C here, which can be safely written down as a disadvantage of the device. On the other hand, you can always find a charger for an already obsolete connector.

Communication and Internet

List communication capabilities M6 Note consists of dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS and LTE support. The device works perfectly in Russian latitudes, during the test there were no interruptions in communication.

Some will complain about the lack of NFC or infrared. For now, you can do without the first one, and the second one is not very popular based on the similar experience of Xiaomi.

Video review Meizu M6 Note

Competitors, conclusion

  • Change of line of processors;
  • Dual camera;
  • autonomy;
  • Comfortable and high-quality assembled case.
  • Mediocre display;
  • No Type-C

Meizu M6 Note is a sign of the beginning of positive changes. The long-awaited switch to Snapdragon and dual camera make the device a worthy contender for competitors. The same recognizable state employee from Meizu has finally lost most of its negative sides. The only drawback so far is the manufacturer's refusal to switch to Type-C connectors.

You are probably aware that the Meizu M6 Note was recently presented to the public for review. The new smartphone was immediately dubbed a breakthrough for the Chinese company, a bomb that should help the brand to impose a fight on the main competitor - Xiaomi. Main Feature Meizu M6 Note has become a processor from Qualcomm. This is not the debut smartphone of the company on the Snapdragon chip. In early 2015, Meizu introduced one of the versions of the M1 Note, which received the Snapdragon 615. After that, the manufacturer used only MediaTek processors in its products, which many users did not really like.

In many ways, it was the chipset that became the key point, because of which users chose, preferring more nimble hardware to a stylish design. Finally, the pleas were answered - the M6 Note was equipped with the rather popular Snapdragon 625 chip, which belongs to the middle class. But the smartphone is not going to surprise us with a single processor. Meizu M6 Note became the second device of the company (after the recent flagship), which received a dual main camera.

  • On AliExpress, the price of Meizu M6 Note starts at 11,500 rubles for the younger version ( link to the seller with the most orders / the lowest price on AliExpress)

"On paper" the novelty looks really interesting and promising. But the smartphone will be able to meet all expectations, it will become a worthy competitor for the Xiaomi line Redmi note and will it help the company compete for the Olympus of the middle segment? Today we bring to your attention an overview of the characteristics of the Meizu M6 Note, in which we will analyze each feature of the smartphone, take a look at the price, and also tell you where it is more profitable to buy a new product.

Meizu M6 Note: Specifications

Contents of delivery

The manufacturer did not change the design of the box in which the smartphone is delivered. We get a classic white box with only the brand logo and model name applied. This kind of packaging is used for every budget/mid-range Meizu smartphone. In general, nothing unusual. The equipment does not stand out either. In addition to the device itself, we see a small envelope that contains various documentation. A classic for the manufacturer tool for extracting the SIM card slot is fixed on top. The power adapter that supports fast charging technology, as well as the microUSB cable, are neatly laid out in their places.

Appearance

Meizu M6 Note is unlikely to surprise users who are already familiar with. Have you held Meizu M3 Note or M5 Note in your hands? That's about the same style turned out and M6 Note. From the front, smartphones are completely indistinguishable. But already the back side distinguishes the M6 Note from the background of its predecessors. Firstly, the dual camera catches the eye, and secondly, the LED flash, made in the form of a strip, like the Meizu E2. The design of the model does not shine with frills - it's just one of which we see several pieces annually.

The body is made of metal. Recognizable plastic strips have not gone anywhere, which the manufacturer did not consider it necessary to somehow hide. No, he made them distinct, which sends the M6 Note back about a year ago, when these stripes were not so critical. Why not implement them, as in, for example. By the way, M6 Note and Mi 5X are, in fact, competitors, so we recommend looking at our recent one.

Presented Meizu M6 Note in four colors. There are classic gold and silver color options, as well as black and blue colors. The latter are still not very common, so the guest of our review is dressed in silver. Meizu M6 Note is not the most compact smartphone. It has fairly thick bezels around the screen, making it quite wide and tall. It can hardly be called ultra-thin - after all, 8.35 mm looks weighty. The same thinner by about a millimeter. Although, let's pay tribute, the latter has a thinner battery.

The smartphone has a classic arrangement of elements. In front we have a large display, under which the branded “Home” button has settled, which at the same time plays the role of a fingerprint scanner. Many people like this key very much - it is really convenient to use. At the top of the Meizu M6 Note we see a speaker, a front camera and a set of sensors. Let's run through the ends. Below is the main speaker grill, microUSB connector, 3.5 mm headphone port and microphone hole. An additional microphone hole is located on the upper end.

The volume rocker and the on/off button, according to the standard, found a haven on the right edge of the device, slightly recessed into the case. On the left we see a combo tray for two SIM-cards (instead of one SIM, you can install a microSD memory card). On the back panel we observe two sensors, which are slightly different in size. At the top center (neatly along the plastic insert) there is a flash strip of four LEDs.

The design of the Meizu M6 Note, which looked at our review, is not surprising, but it does not drive into a stupor either. The main points were taken over from their predecessors, the back side underwent some modernization, which received replenishment in the form of another module and a flash with a modified shape. Considering the price for which you can buy Meizu M6 Note today, you expect something more (for about the same amount you can buy, which looks more interesting in terms of design).

Screen

There is nothing special to tell you. The hero of our review in the face of Meizu M6 Note, like the design, the screen was borrowed from its predecessors. We have a standard one of 5.5 inches, the resolution of which is 1920x1080 pixels (FullHD). As a result, we get 401PPI - it will be possible to distinguish between individual points if you only look closely at the screen, bringing it close to your eyes. The screen of the Meizu M6 Note, as well as the entire front part, is covered with 2.5D glass. It is difficult to say how reliable it is, almost nothing is known about its origin. However, no noticeable scratches appeared on the Meizu M6 Note during the review.

There is an oleophobic coating - it can be characterized by an average level. They saw better, but those smartphones cost more money. The screen has good viewing angles, again, an average saturation picture and a sufficient margin of brightness to comfortably use a smartphone on the street. Supports up to 10 simultaneous touches, which will surprise few people. The frames around the display, as already mentioned, are quite wide - the working area occupies something like 70% of the total surface.

What is the result on the screen? He's not perfect, but not bad either. Something in between, which, in fact, is shown by many others. At the price of Meizu M6 Note, the screen shows a fairly good result. Although in this segment, in order to find something worse, you have to try.

Performance

Left - Meizu M6 Note; right - Xiaomi Mi 5X

Let's go to the sweetest. As already noted by no resource, Meizu smartphone M6 Note received a processor from Qualcomm. In my opinion, this event has become more significant for users than the release of the flagship, which is equipped with a second screen. The Snapdragon 625 was introduced in the second half of 2016. The processor is positioned as a solution for mid-range smartphones. Built on 8 Cortex-A53 cores, showing a clock speed of up to 2 GHz. What differs from MediaTek's main competitors is the more modern technical process - 14 nm. Thanks to this, the smartphone is not only fast enough, but also has full order with autonomy.

The Snapdragon 625 is, in fact, very popular with smartphone manufacturers. It is installed in the famous Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X, it was received by both the huge and stylish Nubia Z11 Mini. And not unreasonably because he is preferred by the company. The Adreno 506 chip is responsible for the graphics capabilities of the Meizu M6 Note. In short, the hero of our review copes with any user tasks without any problems. Yes, in some games at maximum graphics settings, you can notice lag, so hardcore gamers are advised to choose something more serious. Here, take a look at the options on.

For its characteristics in the synthetic test AnTuTu Meizu M6 Note shows a standard result - about 60,000 points for the version with 3 GB of RAM.

Now let's talk about memory. Meizu M6 Note can be bought in a version of 3 or 4 GB of RAM. For most users, 3 gigs of “RAM” is enough for all tasks, so do not rush to overpay. You can also choose the size of the drive: here are the minimum 16 GB, and 32 GB, which look the most optimal, and an impressive 64 GB. In addition, the hybrid tray allows you to install microSD up to 128 GB instead of one SIM card. In general, there should be no problems with memory.

As a result, if we start from the characteristics of the Meizu M6 Note, we have one of the (if not the best) smartphone of the company for last years. Yes, the manufacturer made good devices on processors from MediaTek, but on Snapdragon, you see, everything looks much more successful. The smartphone has no performance issues for its price, and the energy efficiency of the chipset is also pleasing.

Interfaces, sound and navigation

Meizu M6 Note, as already noted, is equipped with a hybrid tray for two SIM cards. Both SIMs must be nano format. The smartphone works in all known networks, including 4G LTE. It is worth noting that band 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20 are supported. Not everything is so dense with wireless interfaces - Wi-Fi yes Bluetooth version 4.2. Unfortunately, the model did not receive NFC, without which modern smartphone looks a little beat up.

Moreover, the solution remains with the old microUSB connector. It is clear that for the price of the Meizu M6 Note, most smartphones still have the same port, but you still expect more from this company. The device supports the OTG function, which allows you to connect various drives and peripherals to it. The two most popular systems available for navigation are GPS and GLONASS. Thanks to a fairly fast processor, the smartphone quickly finds satellites even with a cold start.

Meizu M6 Note received a proprietary mTouch button, which, in addition, is a fingerprint scanner. It works smartly, one might say, unmistakably - in general, as usual. The sound of the smartphone is really good, despite the fact that it is equipped with only one main speaker. It's loud, fairly clean, and of good quality.

Meizu M6 Note got everything you need for comfortable work, but at the same time would noticeably decorate smartphone NFC and a USB-C connector, which, by the way, is equipped with.

Operating system

Meizu M6 Note "out of the box" has an operating system Android 7.1.2 Nougat. Naturally, on top of the OS is the proprietary Flyme shell version 6.1.4.1A. The firmware on the Meizu M6 Note, which we have in our review, is global, but only the Alpha version, so there are some flaws. Fonts that are not brought to mind are striking, in addition, a number of functions refuse to work or function incorrectly. In the near future, Meizu should release a stable firmware for the M6 Note, which will bring fixes.

Even on the Alpha version of Flyme, the smartphone works fine. The interface is smooth, and we did not have a chance to see lags, despite diligent attempts. As they say, there are no comrades for the taste and color, but the Meizu shell looks, you see, much more interesting than many smartphones from its countrymen. Flyme is simple and clear, quite beautiful and functional. We hope for a quick release of a normal firmware for Meizu M6 Note in order to enjoy its work to the fullest.

You can follow the firmware release for the Meizu M6 Note on the w3bsit3-dns.com forum.

cameras

Fascinated by the processor from Qualcomm, we almost forgot that the novelty has another rather catchy feature - a dual main camera. At the presentation of the smartphone, by the way, representatives of the company paid special attention to the cameras, praising it as one of the best camera phones in the mid-budget segment. On paper, the camera specs of the Meizu M6 Note really look good. We also note that this is the manufacturer's first smartphone in the middle segment with a dual camera.

Now, actually, about the sensors. On the back side we have a pair of 12 and 5 megapixel sensors. The first sensor is presented by the company - IMX362. A good module, seasoned with an aperture of f / 1.9. The second sensor is already from Samsung - 2L7 with f / 2.0 aperture. It serves here to blur the background so that the user can get stylish photos with a bokeh effect. Main camera, forgetting about additional sensor, in principle, for its price it takes good pictures. Not to say “Ah!”, But quite suitable photographs are obtained. It is clear that better shots come out during the day or in normal lighting conditions. At night, our guest's camera is frankly rather weak. Although there is a 4-LED flash located above the eye of the main camera.

Availability additional camera Meizu M6 Note does not fully justify itself. It blurs the background, of course, better than the camera of the same or, but still does it somehow not very well. The background turns out to be smeared unevenly, and the edges of the object on which the camera is focused are often smeared. In general, while Meizu with dual cameras, things are not very good. However, there is hope that the jambs will be fixed with subsequent firmware updates.

You can record video on a smartphone with a maximum resolution of 4K, no image stabilization is provided. Meanwhile, the videos on Meizu M6 Note are very good. The picture is rich, the sound is good - quite for its price.

16 megapixel front camera with f/2.0 aperture. Quite good if you are not one of the overly demanding users. During the day, good selfies are obtained, at night the situation, of course, is much worse. The front camera can record videos with a maximum resolution of FullHD.

Generally speaking, the Meizu M6 Note has decent cameras for its price, which will probably not surprise you, but will definitely please you. It remains to rely on the manufacturer, who is simply obliged to release corrections for the additional sensor.

autonomy

Meizu M6 Note is equipped with a serious 4000 mAh battery. Together with an efficient chip, the smartphone is able to do without recharging for 1.5-2 days. What can be said for sure is that you will have enough for the whole day even with intensive use. Declared the ability to quickly charge the smartphone, which allows you to fill the battery from 0 to 100% in about 2 hours.

Another characteristic that can be written down as a virtue of the Meizu M6 Note.

Meizu M6 Note: where to buy, price, analogues

In Russia, Meizu M6 Note is about to appear, but the price is already known. The younger version (3 + 16 GB) will cost almost 17,000 rubles, for the middle peasant (3 + 32 GB) you will have to pay almost 19,000 rubles, for the older version (4 + 64 GB) the manufacturer asks for all 25,000 rubles. Much more profitable Meizu M6 Note can be bought in Chinese online stores, where smartphones are available now.

The main competitor of Meizu M6 Note will be Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X, despite the fact that there is also a fresh Mi 5X. In terms of characteristics, smartphones are comparable, including processor models and battery capacity. Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X has only one main camera, and the front camera is weaker. But the smartphone is noticeably cheaper - about 9,000 rubles for the 3 + 32 GB version.

Meizu M6 Note: verdict and review

Undoubtedly, new smartphone Meizu turned out to be worthy. Of course, it’s too early to talk about a breakthrough, but there are inclinations. Meizu Specifications The M6 Note makes a truly mid-range smartphone out of the model, and the relatively low price, which, moreover, will only go down over time, turns it into perfect solution for the average user. More than 200,000 smartphones sold are already talking about something.

Is it worth chasing a smartphone for Snapdragon 625? To be honest, in everyday tasks(Internet surfing, messengers, calls, casual games, etc.) you will hardly find the difference between Meizu M5 Note (MediaTek Helio P10) and M6 Note. But the latter feels more confident in demanding games thanks to a faster processor. In addition, Snapdragon 625 is built on a more modern technical process, which gives us additional minutes battery life. In general, if you do not depend on the latest resource-intensive games, and more frequent charging does not bother you, then there is not much point in buying an M6 Note. Moreover, now you can buy Meizu M5 Note much cheaper.

Summing up under the Meizu M6 Note review, it is worth leaving a personal review. In general, the smartphone pleased. Not directly “wow”, but one of the few Meizu devices in recent times, which is really difficult to scold. Meizu M6 Note is a good working device, which now has everything for this title. Another thing is that the smartphone is still expensive and there is no normal firmware for the M6 Note yet. In a month or two, when the manufacturer releases an update, and the price drops a little, the device may well break into the top sales.

Pros and cons:

What we liked:

What did not like:

In the past few months, the life of Meizu, one of the largest Chinese smartphone manufacturers, has been filled with very remarkable events. In 2018, the company turns fifteen years old, which will undoubtedly lead to many events dedicated to this date. In addition, last fall, Meizu introduced its first smartphone, built on the basis of a single-chip system manufactured by Qualcomm. Yes, dear friends, as you may have guessed, the topic of today's article will be a review of the fresh Meizu M6 Note.

Experienced readers of our resource know that MediaTek used to be the main supplier of processors for Meise. However, no matter how successful their processors were in terms of price-performance ratio, they could not come close to the new Snapdragon in terms of power and energy efficiency. Now, Meizu and Qualcomm have settled all their differences, and this gives Snapdragon processors a long-awaited green light.

What turned out to be an extraordinary novelty from Meizu? What features does it have and do you need special instructions for it? We will try to find answers to these and many other questions in today's material. Let's go over the parameters, and also separately consider all the main components of any smartphone based on operating system Android. In general, we present to your attention our review of Meizu M6 Note and wish you a pleasant reading.

The smartphone comes in a very standard and particularly unremarkable white cardboard box. If you don’t know that the device is from Meizu in the box, then from afar it’s quite possible to confuse it with the packaging of any other vendor mobile phones, which also prefers a discreet style. Nevertheless, the packaging materials themselves do not cause any complaints, the cardboard is dense and protects the gadget well from light mechanical damage.

The content of the kit is also very standard for a mid-budget representative of the first echelon. Chinese brands. In other words, the packaging of the smartphone is very meager and contains only the most necessary things. So, in addition to the main device, we also managed to find in the box:

  1. Charger.
  2. Cable for connecting via micro-USB.
  3. A paperclip for extracting SIM cards.
  4. Accompanying documentation.

Design and ergonomics

The first thing you think about when you look at the brand new Meizu M6 Note smartphone is that Meizu does not change itself. Indeed, the design of the new device, so to speak, is the most “standard” and is similar to many other devices of the company that came out earlier. Someone might say that in this way Meizu devices become distinctive and well recognizable. Perhaps this is true, but it seems to us that the approach that the company took when creating the Pro 7, that is, the maximum departure from the same type and an attempt to bring something new and original to the industry, seems more correct to us.

Nevertheless, it is worth paying tribute to the Meise designers that they still try to add some kind of “zest” to each of their new smartphones, which would make the device individual, and not leave it as a faceless representative of the same type. model range. In Meizu Pro 6, a ring flash served as such a bright small element, while in M6 Note, the flash is inserted in a thin line into the plastic strip of the upper antenna, which we have not seen before. The phone also highlights an elegant, soft rounding of the edges on the back cover, thanks to which the phone is very comfortable and confident in the palm of your hand, as well as a thin chamfer that is located on the side of them.

Traditionally for mid-range Meizu smartphones, the M6 Note is made as an all-metal candy bar, completely covered in front with tempered protective glass processed using 2.5D technology. The phone is assembled very high quality, during testing we did not notice any backlash or squeaks. Tempered glass also fully copes with its function, and if you do not set out to intentionally scratch it, then it will look like new for quite a long time. As for tactile sensations, the metal is slightly rough, but very pleasant to the touch, fingerprints on the back wall, although they remain, are very subtle. The phone comes in four colors: black, silver, gold and blue. We managed to hold several devices in our hands, and it was the golden and blue shades that seemed to us the most “delicious”.

In terms of the placement of functional elements in a smartphone, everything is mostly standard. On the front panel above the screen we have a speaker, a front camera, a light indicator and a set of other sensors, and below the screen we are waiting for the mTouch multifunction button, which also has a fast fingerprint scanner built into it. But the back panel is almost empty. In addition to the LED flash already mentioned today, we are also looking at two camera modules, which we will only have to talk about in more detail. One of them slightly rises above the body by just a couple of millimeters, and the second, on the contrary, is placed flush with the body and even slightly buried in it, somewhat reminiscent of one of the options for placing a fingerprint sensor.

No matter how much we would like to repeat the same things once again, but, unfortunately, in the context of information about functional elements, we are forced to talk again about the side faces. Here, everything is fully standard for fans of smartphones based on the Android operating system. On the right side of the M6 are the power / lock button, as well as the volume key. On the left side, we traditionally have a hybrid tray for two nano SIM cards or one SIM card and a micro-SD memory card.

At the top end of the smartphone is only a hole for the active noise reduction microphone. But on the bottom we can see the main speaker grille, a micro-USB port and a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack, which Meise does not refuse even under the influence of modern trends, and for which many thanks to her.

Screen

Meizu M6 Note is equipped with a high-quality 5.5-inch IPS display with Full HD resolution (1920x1080 pixels) and a pixel density of 403 ppi. If we judge the quality of the screen in comparison with other smartphones of the same price category, it should be recognized that it turned out to be more than worthy. The colors are bright and at the same time moderately saturated, the colors are transmitted correctly and seem natural. In general, the color gamut of the screen is very close to sRGB and almost completely repeats the famous triangle.

By default, the smartphone settings are set to an average color temperature, but thanks to a special proprietary application, you can adjust the temperature to colder or warmer shades as you wish. Viewing angles please no less. Although good readability at large viewing angles remains a feature of IPS matrices, the M6 is especially pleasing in this regard. Even at the most extreme angles, the picture practically does not fade, does not roll into outright whiteness. Inversion or purple hues also do not manifest themselves.

According to passport data, the maximum brightness of the smartphone should correspond to the level of 450 cd/m 2 . This is a very good result, but it seemed to us that neither in manual mode, nor is this value reached in auto-adjustment mode. In bright sunlight, the screen fades significantly and becomes difficult to read, which should not happen at a brightness of 450 nits. Having looked at the test results of our colleagues, we were able to make sure that for many devices the real value of the maximum brightness does not reach the declared value and on average is at the level of about 360-380 nits, which, of course, is not good. Nevertheless, the anti-reflective coating is present and does its job well. So, although with reservations, you can still use the M6 Note on a sunny day.

The M6 Note screen has no air gap and has full lamination. The test shows support for multi-touch up to ten touches, the display is quite sensitive, pressing works accurately and quickly. There is also a high-quality oleophobic coating, the finger glides across the screen confidently, fingerprints are reluctantly collected on the glass, but even those that accumulate are subsequently very easily removed with a regular napkin.

Performance and autonomy

On the test, we had Meizu M6 Note M721H 32 Gb and in terms of performance, he still managed to please us. As we mentioned at the beginning of the article, the Qualcomm single-chip system is responsible for this parameter in the M6, and to be more precise, the Snapdragon 625. And here a very funny situation arises when talking about smartphone performance is very simple and not at the same time. For Meizu, this is a completely extraordinary event, the processor is used for the first time on a company device and this should be covered in detail. On the other hand, given processor has been used for a long time, we met it on many other devices. Both we and you already know almost everything that is possible about this “stone”. It is difficult to think of something to tell you about him, so that it becomes at least a little new information for you.

In this regard, today we will not list the detailed specifications processor, but let's turn to our subjective feelings from its work on the M6 Note. In the main menu of the smartphone, as expected, everything is pretty smooth. Animations are smooth, transitions between applications and screens are very fast, while the processor in the background remains practically not loaded. With more difficult tasks, the story is about the same, the video is played without lags, and the smartphone equally easily copes with both 720p and 1080p quality. Surfing the Internet is also a pleasure, the phone does not experience problems both in working with one tab and when working with many open pages, despite its old age in multi-threaded performance, the "stone" is still quite good.

As for gaming applications, everything is not as perfect as we would like. On the M6 Note, you won't be able to launch any game and set the maximum graphics settings without hesitation. In many modern projects, in order to achieve a stable 60 frames per second, you will have to compromise and select medium-high quality settings. I was very pleased with the opportunity to choose from the maximum and balanced performance modes in the phone's menu, as well as apply a special gaming mode, in which you will not be disturbed by pop-up windows. In benchmarks, the smartphone did not present any surprises and scored about the same number of points as other devices based on the Snapdragon 625. So, in everyone's favorite AnTuTu benchmark, the phone scored 63378 points, and in Geekbench 4, respectively, 858 points for single-threaded performance and 4243 points in multithreaded mode.

Due to the fact that we have long been accustomed to seeing Meizu in phones mainly rechargeable batteries at 3000 or 3200 milliamp hours, the M6 Note managed to surprise us. The reviewed smartphone is equipped with a 4,000-thousand milliampere-hour battery, which is quite a lot in modern realities. No matter how much we tortured our test device, we managed to discharge it to zero by the end of the day with a moderate load only a few times. Basically, under normal operating conditions, the smartphone easily survives for about a day and a half, and with a more benign usage scenario, the smartphone may well last up to two days. As for testing with a certain type of tasks, with the M6 Note you can easily count on 15 hours of reading, about 10 hours of watching videos and about 5 and a half hours of modern games.

Multimedia features

In terms of sound, the M6 Note is practically no different from other mid-budget smartphones based on Qualcomm processors. The sound from the external speaker is quite loud, but the lack of stereo makes itself felt. Despite its strength, the sound is still too flat and does not adequately cover the entire sound range. When using headphones - fortunately the manufacturer has taken care of the presence of a 3.5 mm jack - the situation is greatly improved. The sound begins to take on a character, becomes much richer and deeper. For true connoisseurs of music, the M6 Note is hardly suitable, but for those who simply don’t mind leaning back on the couch with their favorite selection of tracks for long evenings, it will do just fine.

The Meizu M6 Note camera is a separate conversation. This time, Meizu decided to keep up with market trends and applied a dual camera solution in their new device, and looking ahead, I would like to say that this solution turned out to be very successful. The main camera is Sony module IMX362 with a resolution of 12 megapixels, six lenses and f/1.9 aperture. The second camera is equipped with a 5-megapixel Samsung 2L7 sensor, has five lenses and an aperture of f / 2.0. As always in such duets, all the responsibility for shooting falls on a stronger camera with higher resolution. At the same time, the second camera is designed to create high-quality background blur when shooting in portrait mode, and is also designed to help the smartphone speed up focusing in low light conditions.

Given that the Meizu M6 Note belongs to the class of mid-budget devices, then to say that it shoots very well is to say nothing. If you look at sample photos and do not know that they were taken on the M6, then you might well think that they were shot on a much more expensive camera. The smartphone works great with color and white balance, detail and sharpness are also very good. high level. But most of all we were surprised by the night shooting. Thanks to fast optics and good focusing, you can see a lot of small details in the frame, while digital noise is practically absent, which is very unusual for this class of devices. The smartphone also has the ability to manually configure some settings. For example, you can fine-tune the shutter speed from one thousandth to 20 seconds, adjust the ISO from 100 to 3200, and also choose the focus and white balance settings for yourself.

The main camera of the M6 Note can record 4K video at 30 frames per second. The quality is excellent and pleases about the same as the photo. However, here, unlike photography, it is much more felt that the smartphone is actually far from being a flagship. Due to the lack of stabilization, the picture looks a bit shaky, and sound recording is not the best. forte this device.

But the front camera did not disappoint at all. It has a resolution of 16 megapixels and f / 2.0 aperture, which is not so common in devices of this category. Thanks to high resolution The image is crisp and rich in detail. Of course, there are also various modes for embellishments and improvements in the texture of the face. Selfie lovers will surely be pleased.

Shell

Meizu M6 Note operates on the basis of the Android 7.1.2 operating system and the Flyme 6 proprietary shell. We note right away that talking about software shells is a kind of conversation about tastes, and, as you know, they don’t argue about tastes. Shell evaluation largely depends not on objective advantages, but on the preferences of specific people or on how accustomed the user is to a particular shell. So, some stand up for pure Android, while others may not imagine life without Flyme or, for example, MIUI.

Nevertheless, there is no escape from objective reality, and each shell has a certain set of qualities. So, Flyme 6 stands out among other software shells by the absence of a separate list of applications, as in many other systems from China, all application icons are placed directly on desktops. The second distinguishing feature of the system, perhaps, is the very wide possibilities for customization. You can change almost anything at your discretion: wallpapers, various themes, icon and font sizes, status bar, customize automatic activation screen and more.

Flyme 6 supports multiple modes. A simplified mode is available, which increases the size of interface elements and fonts, a children's mode, which imposes restrictions on the use of certain applications, and a guest mode, which limits the amount of traffic and access to personal data. Another advantage of the Meizu shell is the wide range of gestures that can be used to unlock your smartphone, control your music player, launch certain programs and applications, as well as many other use cases.

On the M6 Note, the proprietary shell works smoothly, everything is fitted and set up very high quality. During the operation, we did not have any problems with bugs, "brakes" or freezes. You can argue as much as you like about the advantages or disadvantages of software shells from competitors, but the fact that Meizu has done a great job with Flyme cannot be denied.

This is how the brand positions its device. And although the smartphone is not a budget, but an average price category, in practice, the Meizu M6 Note turned out to be quite consistent with this slogan. For the money, it offers an excellent set of features. But when using it, small nuances were also revealed that you need to know if you have your eyes on this model.

Case and design

The smartphone comes in a box, in which, together with the device, two separate packages with a cable and charger, as well as a paperclip and instructions.

Meizu M6 Note came to our review in black, its cover is made of painted aluminum. In this color, the case easily collects stains from fingers and is difficult to rub off from them, but it is very pleasant to the touch.

A flash of four diodes was placed on the antenna line, different flashing effects of which can be set for calls. In addition, when you turn on the flashlight, when the smartphone is in a standard case, you get a nice backlight around the edge. Under the flash are two camera lenses.

Screen covers protective glass with rounded edges. It was not possible to check how much it collects fingers, since Meizu branded glass was immediately pasted in the store.

The speaker and front camera are traditionally placed above the display, and below is the only button with a built-in fingerprint scanner.

At the top end of the smartphone there is only a microphone, and at the bottom there is a 3.5 mm jack, a microphone, Micro-USB and a music speaker. If you use the connectors carelessly, you can leave scratches near the headset and charging points, but in general, the smartphone is not one of those that easily collect scratches.

On the left edge - a slot for SIM-cards and memory cards, on the right - the volume buttons and the power button.

If you wish, you can find fault with the fact that the Meizu M6 Note is heavy and looks a little pale from the back. But to find fault or not is up to you.

Display

The screen here is 5.5-inch with Full HD resolution and a pixel density of 403 ppi. It is fully laminated, that is, without an air gap, so if you break the screen, you will have to change both the glass and the matrix. But thanks to this technology, the screen is more contrasting, conveys colors deeper.

The plus point is that, compared to the 5 Note, the screen is less bright and has a calmer color reproduction without going yellow. Colors are nice and balanced by default, but can be calibrated in your own way if you want to enhance the effect.

Viewing angles are not bad, only slightly reduced brightness at a large angle.

The overall brightness is sufficient for using a smartphone outdoors in bright light.

The display bezels on the sides are thin, you don’t notice them when using.

In general, the screen is beautiful without any "buts".

Hardware

Meizu M6 Note is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon processor 625, Adreno 506 graphics, 3 GB RAM and 32 GB of storage with the possibility of expanding memory with micro-SD cards.

In benchmarks, the device shows itself as a good average: in the Geekbench 4 multi-core test, the device scores 4272 points, in AnTuTu its result is 76799 points.

All tasks are performed quickly, without lags and freezes. Asphalt 8 runs on high settings. Although the promised 71% increase in graphics performance compared to the Note 5 is not very noticeable in practice, everything works fine. And in the Geekbench graphics test, the device scores 3163 points.

The only question about the speed and smoothness of operation arises if you leave a lot of windows open: clicking on links and scrolling pages starts to hang a little. So don't load RAM and you will be happy.

Wireless and mobile connection works flawlessly. The smooth reception of Wi-Fi is especially pleasing, in addition, in the settings there is a built-in test for its speed.

The speaker, although one, in the words of the owner of the device, "sounds embarrassing." With the help of the equalizer, the sound can be adjusted to suit you.

Battery

The manufacturer promises 10 hours of gameplay from a single charge. It was not possible to check whether the battery will last so much in the game mode, but with mixed active use, the device can withstand more than a day of work.

It is noticed that with one active SIM-card, the battery life increases significantly.

A full charge takes 90 minutes.

cameras

The smartphone in the latest fashion is equipped with a dual camera with Sony IMX362/Samsung 2L7 sensors, and both modules have a fairly wide aperture: 12 MP with ƒ/1.9 and 5 MP with ƒ/2.0.

A few more features - a flash of two warm and two cold LEDs, as well as really instant focus.

There is a manual mode, slow motion modes, panoramas and other standard settings.

The dual camera is here for bokeh, and as is the case with other smartphones with a similar feature, the blur is not always correct. Sometimes the blur is too strong, there are defects along the border of blur and focus. But I must say that the bokeh error can also be found in more expensive top-end devices.

In good outdoor lighting, excellent shots are obtained. In the dark and artificial lighting, the camera shoots with details, although it is a bit noisy.

As for video shooting, there is digital stabilization when recording Full HD video. But it is not available for 4K, so videos at maximum resolution are obtained with a slight rattle.

The 16 MP front camera takes good selfies, but it also makes a little noise in artificial lighting. If you use make-up effects, keep in mind that they tend to narrow and blur the face too much.

A big plus is that the front camera can record Full HD video.

In general, I liked the quality of shooting on both cameras.

ON

The smartphone runs on Android 7.1 with Flyme shell sauce, which uses the One Mind artificial intelligence system. It adapts to the user's lifestyle, his sleep and wakefulness, as well as habits, and speeds up the opening of applications that are used most often.

I like that you can open two windows on the screen at once, and also that with a long press on the icon on the top curtain, you go to the corresponding settings section. And the presence of a basket from which you can recover accidentally deleted files.

A handy option is customizable gestures in the Quick Wake section. You can set a symbol, drawing which on the switched off display will launch any application. But the most practical is the ability to switch tracks by swiping across the display without activating the screen.

Of the usefulness of the shell, it is worth noting password protection - entering passwords only from the Flyme keyboard to avoid data leakage. As well as secure payments - protection against screen overlays, interception of messages confirming transactions and other malicious processes.

Alternatives

Based on the presence of a dual camera, alternative models- , Huawei Mate 10 Lite, or Xiaomi Mi5S Plus, which are sold in 4 GB / 64 GB configurations for the same money.

LeEco Cool1 without specifying the characteristics and functions of the second module, with video shooting up to 2160p 30 fps, as well as a narrower aperture and lower resolution of the front camera. And with wide frames around the screen, but consider it half the price and with excellent quality of shooting in the dark.

Huawei Mate 10 Lite 5.9-inch, 2160x1080 pixels, 16MP + 2MP dual main camera and dual front camera 13MP + 2MP, but with a 3340 mAh battery.

Xiaomi Mi A1 has both main camera modules of 12 megapixels, however, the aperture is ƒ / 2.2 and the battery is a thousand mAh less than that of our ward.

Xiaomi Mi5S Plus has a main camera of 13 MP + 13 MP, and is powered by Snapdragon 821 in the company with Adreno 530, but is also inferior in battery capacity.

Among models without dual cameras, in the same price range lives samsung galaxy J7 (2017) with AMOLED display and one, but even faster camera. However, it has lower resolution and video frame rate, processor frequency and battery capacity.

Another option is the "shovel" Xiaomi Mi Max 2 with a 6.44-inch display, 4 GB of RAM, 5300 mAh, but a less interesting camera.

And finally, the iPhone SE 16GB, which does not require much introduction.

Pros and cons

  • moderately bright and saturated display;
  • dual camera with very fast focus;
  • fast response and well-coordinated work in most scenarios;
  • good level of autonomy;
  • convenient software with Flyme chips.

Conclusion

Meizu M6 Note has collected a balanced set of features, among which the display, the main camera, autonomy and software are the most pleasing. Appearance remains a subjective criterion - someone will like the back of the device, someone will not. This is not to say that this is the best of the best offers, but in general this model can be recommended as the golden mean of what is on the market up to 17k rubles.
