Capacitive or resistive? Capacitive - responds to touch, resistive to pressing. It's impossible to say for sure which one is better.

If you need a device only as an organizer - take notes, work with signs and make lists - a device with a resistive display is more suitable for you. They are very convenient to manage a thin stylus. For everything else (net surfing, games, etc.) a capacitive display is definitely better. There is also support for multi-touch, it is convenient to scale, no need to press on the display, etc.

Let's say you have chosen a modern solution - a tablet with a capacitive display. And here again you have to choose between the types of matrix. These matrices are now divorced, like something good, so we will consider only the most interesting and popular ones.

IPS matrix. The cheapest (from modern) and the most popular. It differs from its predecessors in good viewing angles, good quality Images. Among the shortcomings - the image may fade in the sun. If you need a good and inexpensive tablet, feel free to choose one with an IPS matrix.

pls matrix. Developed by Samsung as an analogue of IPS. It features a slightly higher pixel density and reduced power consumption. Used only in Samsung devices. If you choose between the previous type of matrix, the difference is not particularly noticeable to the eye.

AMOLED matrix. It is considered one of the best matrices along with Super Amoled. It has all the advantages of previous matrices, but has a very bright and saturated picture. Does not need additional lighting. If there are 2 tablets with IPS and SUPER AMOLED matrices on the counter, a person will most likely choose SUPER AMOLED. Why? Because of the brighter, more saturated picture. But in life there is no particular benefit from this - the eyes will get tired more with prolonged contact with the tablet.

Super Clear LCD matrix. LCD modification matrices from Samsung. Recently, it has become famous thanks to high-profile models of this company, like Note 10.1. It is considered a cheaper version of the Amoled matrix, but at the same time, emphasis was placed on a very high pixel density (due to which they are almost invisible), and on the quality of color display. A display with such a matrix displays really beautiful and rich colors. And one more thing: thanks to such a matrix, the image practically does not fade in the sun. But this is not the main thing - thanks to Wacom's digitizer technology, the manufacturer has achieved an amazing result - the tablet can be controlled thanks to the thin “S-Pen” stylus. And not just to manage - you can draw with it, make handwritten notes, build diagrams, and much more.

Finding a normal tablet with a 7-inch display and 4G support is easy. It is much more difficult to find a quality model for normal money. Below is a subjective rating best tablets, which meet two main criteria: 4G support and a screen diagonal of seven inches.

1st place - Lenovo Tab 4 TB-7504X

The first place went to an inexpensive and practical device from Chinese brand Lenovo - Tab 4 TB-7504X running Android 7.0. He collects positive reviews and is sold in almost every gadget store.

Characteristics:

  • SoC: MediaTek MT8735 with Mali-T720 video core.
  • Memory: 2 GB RAM and 16 GB built-in, a slot for a microSDXC flash drive up to 128 GB.
  • Screen: 7 inches, HD resolution, IPS matrix.
  • Wireless: Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth 4.0, slot for two SIM cards, support for 3G and 4G standards. The tablet can be used as a smartphone.
  • Connectors: micro USB, 3.5 mm.
  • 3500 mAh battery.
  • Other: 2 cameras, speaker with mono sound, GPS support.

The device is nimble and convenient - fits perfectly in one hand, easily plays HD-video on YouTube and supports a flash drive and a SIM card or 2 SIM cards at the same time.

Flaws:

  • If you break the display, then throw the tablet away immediately - the replacement is expensive.
  • Weak optimization - for a split second, the tablet freezes, that is, there are so-called micro-lags.
  • Little memory - only 16 GB, of which 8 GB goes to the system.
  • Small quick launch icons.
  • Poor quality cameras.

Speaking of shortcomings, it is worth considering the record low price– in its category, this is the best tablet with a diagonal of 7 inches and support for 4G.

2nd place - Digma Plane 7563N

An even cheaper and simpler tablet based on Chinese budget chipset mediatek.

Options:

  • Android 7.0
  • SoC: MediaTek MT8735 with Cortex-A53 processors.
  • Memory: 1 GB RAM and 16 GB internal, slot for microSDXC.
  • Screen: 7 inches; 1280×800, IPS-matrix.
  • Wireless: Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth 4.0, SIM card slot, work in mode mobile phone, 3G and 4G LTE, GPS.
  • Cameras: 2 and 0.3 MP.
  • Connection via micro-USB, 3.5 mm.
  • 2500 mAh battery.

Digma Plane 7563N is a functional tablet at a low price, with a good accurate navigator that quickly catches satellites and holds them confidently. The device received a solid body, extremely reliable - it is not even necessary to glue a protective film.

3rd place - Torex PAD

Old but cool machine Android based 4.4, made in a shockproof and waterproof case, complies with the IP67 standard, so it cannot withstand immersion in water.

Characteristics:

  • Processor: MediaTek MT8382 with Mali-400 MP2 video core.
  • Memory: 2 GB DDR3 and 16 GB physical, microSDXC slot.
  • Screen: 7 inches, 1280×800, IPS screen with 216 ppi.
  • Wireless: Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth 4.0, 2 SIM card slots, NFC support, 3G, 4G LTE, GPS, GLONASS.
  • Cameras: 13 + 2 MP.
  • 7000 mAh battery.

Judging by the reviews, the tablet is worth its money - it works great as a smartphone for 2 SIM cards, quickly catches satellites, and confidently keeps in touch. The main thing is that the device is not afraid of falls and bumps, so it is not necessary to handle it with care.

Disadvantages: some programs on Play market not compatible with this tablet. There are also complaints about high price, disgusting display and sound, problems with connecting to portable acoustics due to bluetooth.

4th place - Digma Plane 7557

Unlike the previous one, this is a budget and lightweight tablet with 7 inch screen and LTE support 4G.

  • Android 7.0
  • SoC Spreadtrum SC9832 with 4 cores at 1.2 GHz.
  • Memory: 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal, slot for microSDHC flash drives up to 32 GB.
  • Screen: 7 inches, 1024×600, IPS matrix.
  • Wireless: Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth 4.0, 2 slots for SIM cards, GPS.
  • Battery: 4000 mAh.
  • Pure "seventh Android" out of the box.
  • 2 GB of RAM, which is rare for such cheap tablets.
  • Lack of brakes and friezes during operation.
  • Stable 4G - using the Internet anywhere in the city is comfortable.
  • Fast GPS and accurate positioning.

Flaws:

  • Low resolution - grain is visible on the screen.
  • The external speaker is the cheapest, it plays disgustingly. You can only watch movies with headphones.
  • Cameras - for show. Even when chatting on Skype, the video quality is terrible.
  • There are complaints that the battery charge does not match the declared. The specifications indicate 4000 mAh, but in fact only 2000 mAh.

When choosing, be sure to check the battery capacity. If you do not take into account this drawback, then everything else is excusable, given the price.

5th place - Huawei Mediapad T2

Chinese developer Huawei also offers a practical and compact device, made in a metal case. He has been on the market for 2 years, and during this time he managed to get positive reviews.

Characteristics:

  • Android 6.0
  • SoC: Spreadtrum SC9830A with 4 cores at 1.5 GHz.
  • Memory: 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage, support for microSDXC flash drives up to 128 GB.
  • Screen: 7 inches, IPS, 1024×600.
  • Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth 4.0, micro SIM slot, support for 3G and LTE, GPS.
  • 4100 mAh battery with 23 hours talk time.

The Huawei Mediapad T2 tablet is reliable. Users highlight its main advantage - autonomy. And although there is an old Android 6.0, the software is perfectly optimized in terms of power consumption. You can plant a tablet in a day, but for this you will have to keep it in your hands at all.

Flaws:

  • Only 1 GB of RAM, which is why 2-3 tabs in the browser is the peak of tablet multitasking.
  • The main speaker is combined with the earpiece.
  • 8 GB of memory, of which 4 GB is actually available.

Surf the Internet, watch an HD movie, read a book, or chat online. in social networks- that's what the device is designed for. Don't expect high performance from it, but it's one of the best tablets in its category. Finally, let me remind you: the review is subjective and based on customer reviews.

The display is perhaps the main component of any tablet. You can say as much as you like that the quality of work depends on, and if the processor is powerful enough, then the screen can be neglected to some extent. However, it depends on the display how comfortable the use of your gadget will be for the eyes. In addition, the matrix for the tablet is not the last place in the formation of the cost of the finished device.

When choosing a tablet, users rarely pay attention to the type of screen matrix

Having entered any store or website of an online seller, you can note that the characteristics of the product (column "Screen") may indicate different kinds matrices. At the same time, the more expensive the tablet, the better the screen should be. Let's look at what types of tablet screens are and how they differ from each other.

TN + film

Such a matrix for a tablet is already considered obsolete, since it does not provide proper color reproduction, brightness and contrast, and the viewing angle remains small. It is believed that the TN-matrix has the shortest response time, that is, the picture will change almost instantly. But in practice, such an advantage is not visible to the naked eye; special equipment or is needed to measure it. In addition to speed and low cost, such a matrix does not have any special advantages. Due to the low viewing angle by modern standards, the picture on the screen fades and the colors lose their brightness and saturation when the tablet is tilted. In the sun, it will be problematic to see anything at all, since the matrix does not provide the proper contrast and brightness.

IPS

Today it is the most popular matrix for the tablet. Manufacturers have learned to reduce the cost of its manufacture, so that it can be found even on a budget device. It is considered almost an ideal option for a tablet. Among its advantages:

  • excellent color reproduction - unlike previous technologies, all colors are transmitted accurately and naturally, especially for expensive devices; premium-class matrices have close to 100% coverage of the sRGB palette - the color standard used throughout the world, as well as Adobe RGB - the standard used in professional printing and design;
  • the highest viewing angle - even tilting the screen to the side, you can enjoy a high-quality picture and bright colors; the de facto standard is an angle of 176–178 °, that is, without distortion, you can look from the side at almost zero angle;
  • high contrast - implies the maximum difference between the brightest white color and the darkest black; the higher the indicator, the more accurately the black color is transmitted and the more comfortable and pleasing the picture for the eyes; even the most inexpensive matrix for a tablet has an indicator of about 750: 1;

  • the quality of the matrix itself - a screen with such a matrix is always made with ; it has a low weight, the number of low-quality dead pixels is reduced to almost zero, and there is practically no marriage.

And yet, such a matrix has a number of disadvantages. For example, excessive pressure sensitivity (the matrix can be damaged by pressing hard on it), uneven backlighting (although this is practically invisible to the naked eye) and an overestimated number of dead pixels, significantly exceeding legally allowed levels (although few people will pay attention to this, and indeed has little effect on the overall picture). General conclusion: IPS-matrix is perhaps the best of all existing ones.

pls

Samsung's proprietary development and is found only in the tablets of this manufacturer. In fact, this is a kind of IPS. Features lower cost, improved pixel density and reduced power consumption. The visual difference is almost imperceptible.

SuperAMOLED

Another Samsung development, respectively, is found only in their tablets. If the previous types of matrices are varieties of liquid crystal screens, then this novelty has a slightly different principle of operation. The picture is formed using organic light-emitting diodes, which are supplied with an ultra-low voltage current, and thin-film transistors. Today, due to the high cost of the production process and some technological limitations, such a matrix for a tablet is not mass-produced and is installed only on premium devices, in particular, on tablets and smartphones of the Galaxy S series.

The technology has both a number of advantages over competitors, and. Let's start with the pros:

  • black color, since the transmission of colors directly depends on the supplied current; black color is achieved by the absence of power supply;
  • the contrast is an order of magnitude higher than that of competitors;
  • saving energy when viewing dark images;
  • highest brightness; for example, the maximum indicator of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is about 750 cd / m 2 with no more than 450–500 for competitors;
  • the ability to disable unused pixels;
  • bright, rich colors, maximum coverage of the color palette;
  • smaller thickness of the whole structure.

Now for the cons:

  • high battery consumption allows you to view bright images when necessary;
  • not always correct white color;
  • low service life due to pixel burn-in;
  • too oversaturated colors, because of which the eyes get tired quickly.

But do not forget that this technology is relatively new, so over time, all the shortcomings are eliminated.

retina

At the time of buying Apple iPad you can find information that the screen is made using Retina technology. Nothing unusual was noticed in it, most likely, another marketing ploy. The essence of the technology is that matrices are used so much that the human eye no longer distinguishes grain. It seems that there are no pixels at all, and the picture is solid.

Conclusion

We hope that we were able to shed light on the types of matrices used and after reading this article it will be easier for you to decide on a purchase. To summarize briefly, with an average budget the best choice will be IPS-matrix. But the SuperAMOLED matrix, although better in some moments, will cost much more.

There are many tablet computers on the market of various sizes, brands and manufacturers. The range of prices for tablets is also truly huge - from $ 50 for an unnamed "Chinese" to $ 1,000 for the flagship models of well-known brands. To choose the most suitable option that will not disappoint soon after purchase, it is worth understanding the main characteristics of modern tablets, as well as their hardware and software features.

Screens

The first thing we pay attention to when choosing a tablet is the quality of its screen, because it is the screen that we have to deal with every time we use the device. The latest generation models use three main types of matrices: TN TFT, IPS and its modification PLS.

TN TFT screens today are installed only in the most budget models tablets, since the only advantage of such matrices is their cheapness. There are many more disadvantages, and the most noticeable of them are mediocre color reproduction and narrow viewing angles, especially vertically.

The most common type of screens in modern tablets is IPS. More recently, such matrices were considered too expensive for mass models, but today they are installed even in economy-class tablets, which, of course, cannot but rejoice. The undoubted advantages of IPS matrices are high color reproduction quality, deep blacks and wide viewing angles, which makes them the best choice for working with photographs. The downside is a longer response time than TN panels, but on a tablet you can hardly feel it.

PLS-matrix is a modification of IPS-matrices developed by Samsung and installed mainly on tablets of this particular manufacturer. The main advantage of this type of matrix over IPS is the visibility of the image in bright sunlight, which is indispensable for a device designed for continuous use.

Quite rare are tablets with screens based on MVA / PVA matrices, which are close in response time to TN TFT, but have wide viewing angles and provide almost as good color reproduction as IPS matrices. MVA was once developed as a more affordable alternative to IPS, and as the latter became cheaper, they lost their relevance. In addition, MVA has a specific feature to distort the color shades of the image when deviating from the perpendicular viewing axis, which is absent in IPS.

Typical screen sizes for tablet computers are 7, 9.7 and 10.1 inches. Seven-inch models are considered compact, while 9.7- and 10.1-inch models are considered full-size. The former are more suitable for Internet surfing, social networking and reading. e-books, the latter are much more versatile: among other things, they are convenient to use for drawing, watching videos and reading illustrated books and magazines in pdf format. Occasionally there are also non-standard diagonals - for example, 8 or 9.4 inches.

Not only the size of the display is important, but also its resolution: the higher it is, the more information fits on the screen and the less noticeable the pixel structure of the matrix. new standard on the pixel density Apple company, which released in 2010 gadgets with a Retina display matrix, on which it is impossible to see the pixels if you hold the device at a normal distance from your eyes. For a tablet, this is about 15 inches, or 38 centimeters, and the density of dots on the screen latest iPad generation is 264 ppi. At the same time, the hardware resolution of the screen itself is 2048x1536 pixels. The tablet boasts the highest resolution and pixel density to date Google Nexus 10 is 2560x1600 pixels and 300 ppi.

For a seven-inch tablet, a resolution of 1024x600 pixels is considered the norm, for 9.7- and 10.1-inch tablets - 1280x800 pixels with a pixel density of 118 to 169 ppi. At the same time, there is a clear tendency to increase the resolution of mass tablets, at least to the bar set by Apple.

Finally, another important characteristic of the tablet screen is the type of multi-touch implemented in the capacitive sensor. The vast majority of 9.7- and 10.1-inch tablets have a ten-finger multi-touch, that is, the sensor is able to recognize ten simultaneous touches of the display. Compact seven-inch models are usually content with a five-finger multi-touch, which is quite enough for small screens.

Platforms

Modern tablets are built on the basis of combined microcircuits, called "systems on a chip". The composition of such microcircuits includes from one to four computing cores and a graphics accelerator capable of processing both two-dimensional and 3D graphics. "Systems on a Chip", installed in any tablet - from the unnamed "Chinese" to the prestigious iPad, is based on the ARM architecture, which provides decent performance at high cost, and thus is ideally suited for mobile devices powered by batteries.

With rare exceptions, all the various "systems on a chip" used in the latest generation of tablets are based on the Cortex family of cores with the ARMv7-A instruction set. These include, in particular, the Cortex-A5, A8 and A9 cores underlying NVIDIA Tegra 2/3, Apple A5X/A6X, Qualcomm Snapdragon S3/S4, Texas Instruments OMAP 4 chips, as well as Amlogic, Rockchip and many other smaller manufacturers. At the same time, all these chips can differ quite a lot from the "reference" Cortex cores, including the number of pipeline stages and instruction processing algorithms, so it would be completely wrong to consider them clones of the reference design.

All developers clearly divide the lines of "systems on a chip" in terms of performance, so the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 name alone cannot say anything: this family includes both ultra-budget dual-core S4 Play, made using 45-nm technology, and high-performance quad-core S4 Pro , produced according to the 28-nm process technology.

The mainstream today is represented by dual-core "systems on a chip" with support for ARMv7-A instructions and a maximum clock frequency of 1.0 to 1.6 GHz (depending on the load, such cores can drop the operating frequency to several tens of MHz) and GPU class Mali 400 MP or PowerVR SXG 540. Such a platform, offered by different manufacturers, delivers powerful tablet performance in virtually any task, including video games, as well as hardware video decoding in Full HD 1080p resolution. More demanding users can opt for a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 with GeForce ULP GPU or a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 with Adreno 320 graphics.

Equipment

For all tablet computers, there is a certain generally recognized equipment standard that guarantees that any model has a certain set of sensors, connectors and communication modules.

The most difficult situation is with the amount of built-in memory and the possibility of its expansion with the help of removable flash cards. Inexpensive tablets may have quite powerful stuffing, but at the same time have a built-in drive of small capacity, since manufacturers tend to save on memory.

The minimum amount of flash memory that can be found in ultra-budget tablets is 2 GB, but at the same time, such models have a slot for flash cards. The de facto standard type of expansion cards is microSD / SDHC, which even Sony today uses, which until then has always sought to promote its own Memory Stick.

In economy class models, it is not customary to go below 8 GB, which can also be expanded with interchangeable cards. Mid-range tablets come with 16GB or 32GB of storage, but may not have a flash card slot. For some well-known manufacturers, this is a principled position: if you want more memory, get a more expensive modification. Finally, flagship tablets are supplied with 64 or 128 GB of memory, and they may or may not have a slot for flash drives, depending on the policy of the manufacturer.

As for RAM, the absolute minimum today is 512 MB DDR2 / 3, installed in ultra-budget seven-inch tablets. This volume is not enough not only for a tablet, but also for a smartphone, so it’s better not to even consider such “pills”. In mid-range models, you are unlikely to find more than 1024 MB, and only in expensive “tablets” you can find 2048 MB of RAM. However, the latest generation iPad manages quite well with a gigabyte, and not the most modern DDR2. Objectively, 1024 MB of RAM is enough for most applications in both iOS 6 and Android 4.1.

With the rest of the basic set of tablet equipment, everything is simple and clear. The obligatory set of any modern model includes: a speaker (one, less often two), a microphone, a 3.5 mm headphone output, a module wireless communication Wi-Fi standards IEEE 802.11b/g/n, a sensor system consisting of a gyroscope and a position sensor (G-sensor), which is responsible for rotating the image depending on the position of the device and controlling games by tilting the tablet, as well as one or two cameras .

It is paradoxical, but true: cameras in tablets, no matter how many megapixels they have and no matter what autofocus the manufacturer promises, for the most part do not shine with quality and give out a “soapy” noisy picture even in ideal lighting. This distinguishes them, by the way, from cameras in smartphones: some of them can already compete with good “compacts” in terms of shooting quality. Of course, there are exceptions, but you should not place high hopes on tablet cameras.

Common tablet ports are Micro- or Mini-USB and mini-HDMI, but some manufacturers prefer to replace them with a proprietary connector that simultaneously serves for charging, connecting to a computer, and outputting video and sound.

They are not found in all tablets, but a light sensor is considered useful, which allows you to automatically change the brightness of the display depending on the surrounding conditions, a digital compass, a magnetic lock for the cover that can automatically put the tablet into sleep mode when the cover is closed (Smart Cover function).

If you need Bluetooth and GPS modules, then their presence should be explicitly indicated in the specification. The same applies to the 3G module with a slot for SIM-cards - it is installed only in certain modifications of tablets, which cost a little more.

Some tablet models are sold complete with a hardware keyboard and look either like netbooks or like transformers. In addition, for individual modifications, you can purchase such keyboards separately as a branded accessory. The keyboard can have a traditional mechanical design, or can be made in the form of a cover with touch buttons. If you are going to use a tablet keyboard for typing large texts, then before buying it is worth checking how convenient it is for you.

Last but not least is the material from which the body of the tablet is made. It must be strong enough, since this device is designed for constant carrying with you and use in the "field" conditions. The best option is a beautiful, lightweight and durable aluminum, and recently aluminum cases have begun to appear in inexpensive models, which makes them much more attractive to the user. However, a significant proportion of tablets, including not the cheapest ones, are produced in plastic cases, which are easily scratched and can break when dropped.

Finally, the screen of the tablet can be protected by both transparent plastic and tempered glass, in particular Gorilla Glass. Last option the most preferable: glass is not scratched, it is usually coated with an oleophobic coating that prevents the accumulation of fingerprints, it is more transparent than plastic. Plastic screens, on the other hand, are quickly covered with scratches and fingerprints, you have to use protective films with them, which make the picture less clear and do not always look neat.

Software platforms

The world of tablet computers is almost equally divided between operating systems Apple iOS and Google Android, and only recently Microsoft has entered this slender picture with its Windows RT. According to IDC for 2012, about 53.8% of global tablet sales came from devices under iOS control(i.e. iPad different models), 42.7% for Android tablets and 2.9% for Windows RT devices. The remaining 0.6% is occupied by rare models with less common operating systems - for example, OSes written on the basis of Linux with a specific scope.

Apple iOS is considered the most user-friendly environment with carefully designed GUI and perfect working out of the smallest elements. Its advantages include 100% compatibility with hardware and a huge number of applications tested by the manufacturer, both from Apple itself and from third-party developers. The main drawback is that to use it, you will have to choose exclusively from iPad modifications, and all of them are not particularly cheap.

Google Android - Open operating system, which any manufacturer can freely use and modify to suit their needs, so the choice of tablets under its control is especially wide. By version 4.1 Jelly Bean Android has finally coped with the vast majority of "childhood diseases", its user interface became comparable in convenience with the iOS interface and acquired a noble smoothness. Many of the most popular various applications, however, there is no guarantee that what you like will be compatible with your device - this is the flip side of the wealth of choice, the possibility of modifying the OS and several of its versions that are simultaneously on the market.

Windows RT, first released in October 2012, is available on five tablets, the most famous of which is its own product. Microsoft Surface R.T. Externally, Windows RT is practically no different from Windows 8, but at the same time it has a lot of strict restrictions that bring it closer not to “desktop” Windows, but rather to Apple iOS. For example, almost all applications for Windows RT will have to be purchased from the Windows Store, since installation of programs from other sources is simply not provided. And given the rather modest selection of the Windows Store, a tablet based on Windows RT can hardly be considered a good choice so far.

Price categories

Prices on tablet computers change quite quickly, especially in the middle and economy class models. Flagships, on the other hand, are stably priced around $1,000 and represent both a demonstration of the manufacturer's capabilities and the owner's status.

At the time of publication of this article, the typical price of a 7-inch economy class tablet was about 5000-7000 rubles, 9.7- or 10.1-inch - 9000-12500 rubles. Middle class represent full-sized tablets for 15,000-21,000 rubles, and the most affordable modifications of the highest-class “tablets” can be purchased for about 25,000 rubles.
