Touchpad Type The touch screen is a device for input and output of information through a touch and gesture sensitive display. As you know, the screens of modern devices not only display an image, but also allow you to interact with the device.
In total, several types of touch panels are known today. Naturally, each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages. We single out the main four designs: Resistive, Capacitive, Projection-capacitive, With the definition of surface-acoustic waves.

Resistive touch panels are among the most simple devices. At its core, such a panel consists of a conductive substrate and a plastic membrane with a certain resistance. When the membrane is pressed, it closes with the substrate, and the control electronics determines the resulting resistance between the edges of the substrate and the membrane, calculating the coordinates of the pressing point.
The advantage of a resistive screen is its low cost and simplicity of the device. They have excellent resistance to dirt. The main advantage of resistive technology is sensitivity to any touch: you can work with your hand (including gloves), a stylus (pen) and any other hard blunt object (for example, the top end of a ballpoint pen or the corner of a plastic card). However, there are also quite serious drawbacks: resistive screens are sensitive to mechanical damage, such a screen is easy to scratch, so a special protective film is often purchased additionally to protect the screen. In addition, resistive panels do not work very well at low temperatures, and also have low transparency - they pass no more than 85% luminous flux display.

Capacitive touch screen technology is based on the principle that a large object (in this case a person) is capable of conducting electricity. The essence of the capacitive technology is to apply an electrically conductive layer to the glass, while each of the four corners of the screen is supplied with a weak alternating current. If you touch the screen with a grounded large capacitance object (finger), current leakage will occur. The closer the touch point (and hence the leakage) to the electrodes in the corners of the screen, the greater the leakage current, which is recorded by the control electronics, which calculates the coordinates of the touch point.
Capacitive screens are very reliable and durable, their resource is hundreds of millions of clicks, they perfectly resist pollution, but only those that do not conduct electricity. They are more transparent than resistive ones. However, the disadvantages are still the possibility of damage to the electrically conductive coating and insensitivity to touch by non-conductive objects, even with gloved hands.

Projection-capacitive screens are based on measuring the capacitance of a capacitor formed between the human body and a transparent electrode on the glass surface, which in this case is a dielectric. Due to the fact that the electrodes are applied on the inner surface of the screen, such a screen is extremely resistant to mechanical damage, and taking into account the possibility of using thick glass, projective-capacitive screens can be used in public places and on the street without any special restrictions. In addition, this type of screen recognizes the pressure of a finger in a glove.
These screens are quite sensitive and distinguish between finger and conductive pen taps, and some models can recognize multiple taps (multi-touch). The features of the projection-capacitive screen are high transparency, durability, immunity to most contaminants. The disadvantage of such a screen is not very high accuracy, as well as the complexity of the electronics that process the coordinates of pressing.

The essence of the touch panel with the definition of surface acoustic waves is the presence of ultrasonic vibrations in the thickness of the screen. When touching the vibrating glass, the waves are absorbed, while the point of contact is recorded by the screen sensors. The advantages of the technology include high reliability and pressure recognition (unlike capacitive screens). The disadvantages are weak protection from factors environment Therefore, screens with surface acoustic waves cannot be used outdoors, and in addition, such screens are afraid of any pollution that blocks their operation. Rarely used.

The tablet is equipped with a 7-inch IPS screen and a dual-core 1.5 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 platform. It is made in a nice metal case and comes with full set necessary cables, mains charger and branded case. Moreover, the cost of this model is noticeably less than that of the leaders in the segment of budget tablets. However, as is usually the case, there is Prestigio MultiPad 7.0 Prime Duo and a few shortcomings, which we will discuss in this review.

Equipment

Unlike many manufacturers, Prestigio is very attentive to the design of the packaging of its products. In particular, the top of the box Prestigio MultiPad 7.0 Prime Duo stands out with a spectacular glossy-matte pattern “carbon look” and a detailed enumeration of the features of this model. Even much less significant in terms of attention from potential buyers, the lower part of the box is made in branded black and red color scheme and contains technical characteristics of the tablet in Russian and English.

Included in delivery Prestigio MultiPad 7.0 Prime Duo Includes: Necessary documentation including warranty card and brief instructions operating instructions in two dozen languages; network Charger with non-removable micro-USB cable and two interchangeable European and UK plugs; micro-USB/USB data cable and micro-USB/USB OTG adapter, plus soft case.

Decorated with the logo of the manufacturer and stitched with red thread, the outer side of the cover is made of black leatherette. The inside of the envelope is lined with soft red fabric to prevent scratches.

Design

Tablet Prestigio MultiPad 7.0 Prime Duo has an attractive design, strongly reminiscent of the design of the model. The maximum thickness of the case is 8.9 mm, and the weight is only slightly more than 300 grams.

The front panel of the device is minimalist, except for the 7-inch IPS screen, you can only find a 0.3 MP front camera lens here. Most of the rear panel is made of a sheet of aluminum with a vertical texture, and only on the top, bottom and sides you can find smooth, non-reflective graphite-colored plastic.

The lower plastic insert is non-removable, unlike the upper one, under which the card slot is hidden microSD memory and a main 2 megapixel camera lens. The left sidewall is free, and the volume rocker and microphone are placed in the upper part of the right side.

On the bottom edge Prestigio MultiPad 7.0 Prime Duo you can find a grill under which the manufacturer installed a pair of speakers and finally, on top there is a power button with an indicator, a micro-USB connector and a standard 3.5 mm audio output.

Screen

Tablet Prestigio MultiPad 7.0 Prime Duo Equipped with a high-quality 7-inch IPS-matrix with a resolution of 1024 by 600 pixels. Of course, I would like to get a 1280 × 800 matrix, but for an inexpensive tablet, this resolution is quite acceptable.

The screen is quite good, the graininess is almost not felt, and the maximum viewing angles allow you to hold the tablet at any angle convenient for you. The backlight brightness of the tablet is adjustable from 80 to 310 cd/m2, half brightness level is 170 cd/m2, automatic adjustment there is no brightness. capacitive Touchpad supports up to 5 simultaneous touches.

Hardware platform

Tablet Prestigio MultiPad 7.0 Prime Duo equipped with an Amlogic AML8726-MX processor with two ARM-Cortex A9 processing cores operating at a frequency of 1.5 GHz and dual-core Mali-400MP graphics. Volume random access memory is 1 GB, the data storage capacity is 16 GB, of which a little more than 13 GB is available to the user.

The tablet is equipped with a Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n module, there is no Bluetooth transmitter, if necessary, you can connect an external 3G modem using an OTG adapter (the list of compatible 3G modems is available on the manufacturer's website). The capacity of the built-in battery is 3200 mAh, which, according to the manufacturer, should be enough for 4 hours of video viewing. At maximum screen brightness and 100% CPU usage in Antutu Tester, the tablet lasted 3 hours and 20 minutes.

Interface

Model Prestigio MultiPad 7.0 Prime Duo comes pre-installed with Android 4.0.4, however, a firmware with a more recent version is already available on the manufacturer's website Android version 4.1. During the first power-up, the wizard starts initial setting, which will help beginners configure the basic settings of the tablet, including the interface language, keyboards, time, wireless network and install your favorite third-party apps.

As a result, on three desktops you will find useful widgets and grouped application icons, including a reader e-books eReader Prestigio, office suite office Suite, file manager and other software.

Exploitation

During the operation it was possible to note the following features of the tablet Prestigio MultiPad 7.0 Prime Duo. I liked the extended configuration of the model, the user does not have to buy a case, charger or OTG adapter separately. The minimalistic design of the front panel and the stylish metal back look very attractive, it is pleasant to use the tablet yourself and not ashamed to show it to others.

The hardware buttons are convenient and in the right places, in addition, the power key signals the charging process with a red glow and turns orange when the battery reaches 100% charge. Despite the presence of two speakers, it is not necessary to talk about the stereo effect, since they are placed almost close to each other. The panel under which the MicroSD card reader is hidden is too tight, you are unlikely to want to remove it regularly, so it is logical to use the memory card as additional storage data, not removable media.

Tablet performance Prestigio MultiPad 7.0 Prime Duo can hardly be attributed to its merits, because despite the decent declared characteristics (2 ARM-Cortex A9 cores, operating frequency 1.5 GHz), the Amlogic processor was announced back in 2010, so it cannot compete with current developments. With casual use, there are no critical slowdowns, although thoughtfulness of varying degrees is observed in almost any application.

Many modern games come with small jerks that make the gameplay difficult, especially where quick response to user actions is important. But the hardware HD-video decoder does its job perfectly, the test movies in AVI and MKV formats up to 1080p were played without problems, although the speakers could use a little more volume.

1. Introduction, device characteristics, equipment

Introduction

I am superficially familiar with Prestigio products. He held in his hands cheap smartphones both tablets and more expensive ones, and they all seemed to me not quite suitable. I don't want to offend anyone, but there is nothing special about them. If you can argue about style and design, then when the question of balance comes up, there are no arguments in defense. Budget products are much inferior in performance, and if the hardware is good, then it becomes simply impossible to compete because of the price.

I will give my arguments about the poor balance on the example of the Prestigio MultiPad 7.0 Ultra Duo tablet.

Specifications devices

  • size: 188 x 116 x 9 mm;
  • weight: 305 grams.
  • type: IPS, capacitive;
  • diagonal: 7 inches;
  • resolution: 800x1280 pixels (pixel density ~216 ppi);
  • multi-touch: 5 touches.

    Platform:

  • operating system: Android OS, v4.1 (Jelly Bean);
  • processor: two cores with a frequency of 1.6 GHz, Cortex-A9;
  • video accelerator: Mali-400 MP4.
  • internal: 8 GB;
  • operational: 1 GB;
  • optional: microSD slot up to 32 GB.
  • primary: 2 MP, photo resolution 1600x1200 pixels;

    Communications:

  • WiFi: 802.11b/g/n, hotspot
  • USB: microUSB v2.0, USB Host;
  • HDMI: micro HDMI;
  • 3.5mm jack: yes.

    Battery:

  • type: Li-Po (lithium polymer);
  • capacity: 4000 mAh.

    Equipment

    In a square box, in addition to the device itself, there are:

  • charger with adapters for American and European sockets;
  • USB cable;
  • OTG cable;
  • branded cover;
  • instructions and user manual.

    A very rich kit in terms of usefulness, where a distinctive feature is a branded pocket for your tablets.

    2. Design, display, battery

    Design

    Device size 188 x 116 x 9 mm; if the numbers do not say anything, then take a 96-sheet notebook in your hand and subtract three centimeters in width and one in length. The result is a small book or a narrow notebook weighing almost 300 grams.

    The front panel is mainly occupied by a seven-inch display. The front camera is located a little higher. The screen is protected from external influences protective glass and chrome insert all around.

    The back of the tablet is dark blue with a grayish tint, made of anodized aluminum. Due to this, heat dissipation is better than plastic. At the same time, the likelihood of slipping out of the hands increases significantly due to the smooth surface.

    Right there, almost at the very edge from above, there is a peephole of the main camera.

    The microUSB, microHDMI connectors and the microphone hole are located on the upper end, the volume and lock buttons are on the right.

    Connectors for connecting microSD and headphones, as well as a stereo speaker are located on the bottom.

    To find fault with the build quality will not work. Everything is assembled at the highest level, nothing backlash and does not creak. All elements are tightly fitted to each other.

    Display

    Speed and performance

    Due to the high frequency and more efficient processor, Ultra Duo demonstrates high performance in testers:

    Speaking of games, DEAD TRIGGER 2 and GTR2 work flawlessly. At times, the latter had hangs, but on game process had no effect.

    Memory

    The amount of RAM is 1 GB. This is quite enough to run most modern programs. Depending on quantity running programs, on average, the user is available from 200 to 300 MB.

    Of the 8 GB of flash memory, a little more than half is allocated to the user. More precisely, 5.4 GB, plus 1 GB is reserved for installing applications. The microSD slot allows you to install cards up to 32 GB. It is quite possible that cards of 64 GB and above will also work.

    4. Software and multimedia capabilities, localization

    Software Features

    The tablet is running the Android 4.1.1 operating system without further updates. Small fixes come from time to time, but nothing major. The network has several modified firmware, and the user, at will, can flash what he likes.

    The desktop consists of 3 working screens. You cannot change their number, as well as choose a quick activation of applications during unlocking.

    The control buttons are located at the bottom left. Time, notifications, battery charge, and a drop-down menu with a transition to full settings- on right.

    The application menu is divided into a tab for programs and widgets. There is also a shortcut icon to Google Play.

  • eReader - reader for books;
  • OfficeSuite - work with documents;
  • Installer - a program for viewing and removing installed software;
  • Explorer is a file manager.

    Everything else is basically standard applications found in all Android devices: Gmail, calendar, calculator, play market, gallery, voice recorder, etc.

    Standard video and audio players are not only inconvenient, but also non-functional. This also applies to the file manager and browser, I would also recommend replacing them.

    In the "Settings" item, there is nothing special to talk about. In appearance, everything is similar to inexpensive Chinese devices.

    You can use version 4.1, but 4.2 is much more convenient for a tablet, and competitors have not released products with an OS version lower than 4.2 for a long time.

    Multimedia

    After installing MX Player, 1080p video plays without problems, including online.

    Without much difficulty, the tablet plays audio files, opens image and text files.

    In the video below, you can clearly see how the device plays video and audio, how it behaves in games and an Internet browser.

  • USB port for recharging or connecting to a computer for file transfer. Alternatively, it can be used to connect peripherals due to the presence of the OTG function.

    Navigation works in the presence of the Internet.

    6. Camera features

    In my opinion, the presence of a camera in the Ultra Duo is a waste of money and details on the part of the company. The resolution of the main module is 2 megapixels, and the front one is 0.3 megapixels, but in reality the quality practically does not change.

    There are no settings as such. The user can select the image resolution, exposure and switch to panorama mode. Video recording quality is low and does not exceed 640x480 pixels.

    7. Accessories

    Of the branded accessories, Prestigio offers only a pocket case, and even then I have never seen it on a free sale.

    Thanks to the presence of OTG, it is possible to connect to the tablet: mice, keyboards, flash cards or a 3G modem. And you can also connect portable chargers, wired headsets and microphones.

    8. Conclusion

    I cannot say that I am delighted with the MultiPad Ultra Duo. Like everyone else, it has its strengths and weaknesses, but so far it's a cut below most competing tablets.

    Advantages:

  • assembly and materials. The build quality is just superb, everything fits together so perfectly that it's hard to believe that this is just a budget solution. A metal rear end it will perfectly remove heat, which plastic is not capable of doing;
  • display. Optimal resolution, rich colors and good viewing angles. I liked the picture more than on Asus Memo Pad HD 7;
  • HDMI. Extremely useful, especially for those who want to watch a movie, favorite show or play on their TV/monitor;
  • OTG. Memory cards, mice, 3G flash drives and other peripherals work fine without additional power. And if you bring power and HDMI, you get a kind of mini-version of the PC.

    Flaws:

  • CPU. First, it is obsolete. Judge for yourself, the CPU was produced in 2012, and the tablet - in 2014, and during this time more improved chips were released. Secondly, the company relied on performance, sacrificing autonomy;
  • materials. Despite good heat dissipation, Ultra Duo can easily slip out of your hands. So obviously you can’t do without a protective cover;
  • ON. Relatively young by the standards of production, the device already at the start turned out to be without official global updates;
  • camera. Its presence is completely useless in this configuration. It would be better if they threw all their efforts into improving the front camera, it would be much more useful.

    Neutral:

  • battery. The 4000 mAh capacity is good, but not paired with such a voracious processor;
  • sound. It was in vain to expect a good sound. Speaker with average volume and quality, without wheezing. With a wired headset, it's better, but not by much.

    Personally, I see the company's mistake in the wrong selection of components, in particular processors, since they are all obsolete. In addition, the current version of the OS is not used, and most importantly, no one is going to deal with the issue of updating.

    And until these shortcomings are corrected, Prestigio tablets will only occupy free space on store shelves, and will be sold only when there is not enough money for something better.

    Representatives of the niche of 7-inch tablets are a kind of border solutions between the world of smartphones and tablets. By the way, it is precisely such compact devices that actually ousted navigators based on Windows phone. Another area of use is telephone communications, if ceiling lamps (phablets) found their buyer, then there was a demand for them. Today we are testing Prestigio MultiPad 7.0 Prime Duo 3G(PMP7170B), just one of these representatives.
    On the whole, the current year has markedly improved the situation in Russian market, users can choose worthy models in all price segments, including a niche up to 5000 rubles. This has already been verified more than once during the tests. In 2012, for this price, you could only buy a noname solution with dubious performance and poor build quality, and even then, these were purchases outside of Russia.

    Now the competition in the market has noticeably increased, the power of the initial platforms is able to provide a proper and comfortable level of performance. Prestigio's products are one of such prominent representatives of the market, noteworthy tablets are offered at affordable prices. Whether Prestigio MultiPad 7.0 Prime Duo 3G will be able to continue this endeavor, we'll see further.

    Availability

    At the time of testing, the average cost of Prestigio MultiPad 7.0 Prime Duo 3G, according to the Yandex.Market service, is 5,600 rubles.

    Equipment

    Despite the budget, according to the good tradition of Prestigio, the tablet comes in a stylish carbon-look package with a combination of black and red colors.

    In the kit, the buyer receives: network adapter with interchangeable plugs, USB-micro USB cable, USB-OTG, warranty card, manual and pocket.

    Unlike the mass of budget solutions, this is not a simple cloth case, but a hard case with a soft lining that is quite suitable for long-term use.

    Appearance Prestigio MultiPad 7.0 Prime Duo 3G

    Prestigio MultiPad 7.0 Prime Duo 3G is a classic 7-inch tablet. Dimensions are 198x123x12 mm with a weight of 355 grams. Such dimensions allow you to use the device with one hand and even comfortably make and receive calls.

    The front side is glossy, the main area of which is occupied by a 7-inch TFT display with an oleophobic coating. Of the elements here, we can note the slot of the speaker, its location here allows you to use it as a classic mobile phone. As well as a 0.3 megapixel camera for video calls.

    Left: volume rockers, microphone slot, 3.5 mm audio jack, microUSB connector and power button.

    At the top are slots for microSD and SIM cards. Access to them is open, inside there is a spring lock.

    The back cover is made of Soft-Touch plastic. Of the elements here is a 2-megapixel camera eye and a speaker slot.

    There are no complaints about the build quality, the case does not creak or play. The only thing is that with such a small battery capacity of 3000 mAh, the unusually large thickness of 12 cm surprises.

    Display

    A 7-inch TFT TN-matrix is installed, the Prestigio MultiPad 7.0 Prime Duo 3G has expectedly poor viewing angles and noticeable color distortion when tilted to one of the planes.

    Another feature is a small level of maximum illumination, it is comfortable to work with the device only indoors or in the absence of direct sunlight.

    Filling

    Installed Mediatek processor MT8377 with an operating frequency of 1200 MHz. This chip is paired with PowerVR SGX531 graphics. This is a dual core processor with Cortex A9 cores.

    Available 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of storage. Of course, you can't get away, but, judging by the operating experience, this is enough to run navigation software and a number of demanding games.

    Velammo

    Antutu

    Battery

    A modest 3000 mAh battery is installed. In fact, when 3G and GPS are turned on in navigator mode, its charge lasts for 1-1.5 hours of use. About 3 hours of video watching and about 5 hours of internet surfing.

    Connection

    Supported 3G, EDGE, HSDPA, GPRS, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900. You can use this module not only for the Internet, but also as regular phone(receive calls, send sms).

    There is also GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11n. USB-connector with OTG support allows you to connect external peripherals.

    Camera

    The main camera is 2 MP. Pictures of satisfactory quality can only be taken in good lighting and the luck of the photographer himself. In general, this tablet once again confirmed that with the camera on Android tablets it's still bad.

    Soft

    Controlled by Prestigio MultiPad 7.0 Prime Duo 3G using operating system Google Android 4.1 s practically clean system. Installed wallpapers, a number of widgets and three programs: Prestigio installer, OfficeSuite Pro, Prestigio eReader.

    The interface works without lags and freezes, however, with a large number of applications in memory, crashes are noted in a number of programs.

    The operating system responds to pressing quickly enough, slowdowns and brakes are practically not felt. For a budget tablet, the OS can be considered generally ideal.

    Media and games

    Problems with the launch of games are not found within reason of course. GTA 3 and Real Racing can be played, but Asphalt 8 could not be launched.

    There were no problems with films, however, due to the small volume internal memory and the screen resolution itself, I recommend pre-compressing the file. I was pleased with the volume of the built-in speakers, the volume level is sufficient for talking, listening to music, and watching movies.

    Video review Prestigio MultiPad 7.0 Prime Duo 3G

    Results for Prestigio MultiPad 7.0 Prime Duo 3G

    The Prestigio MultiPad 7.0 Prime Duo 3G is a well-balanced budget tablet. And, like all solutions in this segment, the user faces a compromise. The advantages of this model are: good equipment, support for 3G, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS. Cons: low battery capacity, low viewing angles, low maximum brightness.

    In conclusion, I note that it replaced the Prestigio MultiPad 7.0 Prime 3G on the market, the processor has improved while maintaining the cost.
