Free Solutions

Remote control involves connecting to another computer to gain access and manage resources. Thanks to this feature, the user can solve many additional tasks remotely: consult, diagnose, monitor the computer. Thus, tasks are simplified, which are often impossible or irrational to perform at a distance.

As part of the review, 10 solutions (6 free and 4 paid) for remote control will be considered. The main attention will be paid to the following features of the software of the selected category:

  • Package contents: what components are included in the distribution, types of installation on the host and client computer
  • Connection modes: supported protocols, work with RDP (see below)
  • Presentation functions: this refers to the possibility of audio and video support, screen capture, the presence of additional tools (“pointer”, “drawing board”, etc.)
  • Security: supported encryption technologies, storage of confidential data, types of authorization on local and remote computers, availability of necessary settings
  • Platform support: mobile platforms and operating systems, availability of an online version.

Do not ignore the standard Windows features, namely the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), which will be discussed first. At the end of the review - a comparative table with detailed information about the availability of the necessary functions in the mentioned applications.

RDP - Windows Remote Desktop Protocol

Starting with Windows NT, the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) is supported. Accordingly, Windows 7 offers the user RDP 7 (an update for Windows XP is also available), Windows 8 - RDP 8 (also available for Windows 7 SP1). Capabilities current version, RDP 8, and will be reviewed.

Connecting to a remote desktop is done using the mstsc.exe application, after entering the name of the remote computer. Connection parameters are also available in this dialog.

The "Screen" tab indicates the resolution of the remote desktop (with the ability to enable full-screen mode), color depth (up to 32 bits).

In the "Local Resources" section, you can select the sound playback mode (on a remote or current computer), enable recording audio from a remote desktop. Also in this section, access to the printer, local disk, floppy drive, PnP devices, ports is configured.

The quality of data transfer is regulated in the "Interaction" tab. You can not only select a connection profile, but also define display settings yourself: desktop background, anti-aliasing, visual effects, image caching. All these options affect the data transfer rate during remote access and can significantly optimize network traffic.

Security settings are available through the "System" component ("System Properties" in the Control Panel). In the "Remote Access" tab, you can allow remote assistance connections, as well as remote connections to the computer. Authentication is performed at the network level. It is also possible to restrict access by specifying a list of allowed remote desktop users yourself.

Thus, the Windows state provides basic tools for working with the RDP protocol. But, as expected, advanced security settings, support mobile platforms, presentation functions are not offered to the user.

teamviewer

TeamViewer is perhaps the most famous free remote control software. The toolkit allows you to establish remote access to your home computer, manage your desktop with various platforms and devices, administer windows server. In addition, the developers highlight the corporate capabilities of TeamViewer: the program can be used to organize conferences, consultations and help colleagues at work.

TeamViewer is available for Windows, Linux, Mac platforms (with restrictions), remote access from OS-based devices is possible. TeamViewer's client full version distribution kit ("All in One"), as a system service (TeamViewer Host), in a portable format, on terminal server and other options. The TeamViewer QuickSupport module should be highlighted, which does not require installation and is optimal for performing urgent tasks.

The client and operator parts are available in the full version of the program. The TeamViewer interface is represented by the main window with two tabs - "Remote Control" and "Conference".

Remote control

The user receives a unique ID to identify the computer on the network, and a temporary password. Also, using the partner ID (optionally - IP address) and knowing his password, you can establish a connection to a remote device.

Three connection modes are available:

  • Remote Management: Manage your device remotely or collaborate on the same computer
All actions are performed on another computer through the remote control window. At the same time, it is possible to change the resolution and scaling, switching between active monitors and other options.
  • File transfer: share files during a session
For data exchange in TeamViewer, a two-pane file manager is used, in which host and client resources are available and basic file operations for working with them, such as: creating folders, deleting, copying, etc.
  • VPN: mode virtual network
Between computers, you can install a virtual private network to provide public access devices (printers, removable media and etc.).

Conferences

In this TeamViewer tab, you can create a blitz conference or connect to an existing one. Available tools include voice and video communication, screen sharing, session recording with the ability to convert to AVI. "Whiteboard" (Whiteboard) is used as a canvas for drawing, creating sketches, comments.

One of the indisputable conveniences of TeamViewer is the "Computers and Contacts" list, which ensures fast access to devices. In addition, here you can track the network status of computers, exchange messages (there are group chat options). Looking ahead, it should be noted that not every participant in the review offers an address book for quick connection to other devices.

For security purposes, the program uses session encryption (AES 256 bit) and traffic encryption (RSA key exchange). Files transferred during a session are signed by VeriSign and the end user must agree to receive them. Through TeamViewer settings it is possible to restrict access: setting access to all operations only after confirmation or prohibiting outgoing sessions.

Summary

TeamViewer is a universal solution with a choice of remote control methods. Thanks to the widely presented multimedia functions, convenient organization of contacts, the program is optimal for conferences.

Ammyy Admin

Ammyy Admin does not require installation and combines a simple interface with flexible functionality. The program is free, has no restrictions for home use. Distributed for Windows, Linux/FreeBSD platforms, mobile devices are not supported.

The client and operator modules are available in the main window. The user receives an ID, which is generated with reference to the equipment. Optionally, when connecting, you can use IP.

The client part can be activated or stopped, thereby setting a ban on connections; by default, Ammyy Admin works in standby mode. You can track the connection status using indicators, the decoding of which is in.

There is an address book, contacts can be combined into groups, change the order of contacts, manually add new addresses. The network status of computers, however, cannot be monitored.

From the main connection modes, you can select Desktop (remote desktop), file manager (File manager) and Microsoft RDP. RDP allows you to connect to a remote desktop, regular Windows functions are provided.

Of the other modes, there are Voice Chat (voice chat) and Speed Test (connection speed test). Obviously, multimedia capabilities are not presented here as fully as in TeamViewer: Ammyy Admin is not positioned as some kind of corporate solution. We can note the screen sharing function, which, in combination with voice chat, makes Ammyy Admin a program suitable for remote assistance.

By going to “Ammyy → Settings → Operator”, you can specify RDP parameters, select the type of encryption and codec profiles, thereby reducing the load on the network. More importantly, the "Network" tab allows you to configure the Ammyy Admin connection, manually specify routers, enable or disable data transmission over the Ammyy Worldwide Network.

The file manager is a two-panel one, through which standard file operations between the client and the operator are available.

In the access rights settings (“Client → Access rights”), separate parameters can be set for each ID. The authentication mode (connection to a PC) is provided to choose from: by Hardware ID, password or user permission. Thus, you can minimally protect your computer from unauthorized remote connections.

Summary

The main advantages of Ammyy Admin are speed, simple and fast interface, relative independence from Ammyy servers and free of charge. This is probably not the best solution for team work, but for individual use, with several computers at your disposal, it is quite.

Supremo Remote Desktop

Supremo Remote Desktop is a convenient portable tool for remote control, remote assistance to other users. Works under Windows control XP and above, mobile devices are not supported.

The program starts without installation, to get started, the host and client must download Supremo Remote Desktop from the developer's site. Traditionally, two modes of operation are supported: using a computer as an access point and connecting to a remote device. In the first case, access is opened by pressing the Start button. The Your credentials section contains the data required to connect: ID and password generated at the beginning of the session. The client requests authorization when logging in (option Ask authorization), thereby preventing attempts of unauthorized access to the computer.

To connect to a host, use the Your partner field, or select an address from the Address Book. The list of active connections is displayed in the Connections section of the main program window.

During transmission, the HTTPS (SSL) protocol is used, the data is encrypted. The security settings are poorly disclosed: you can set a password to start the program, specify the IDs allowed for the connection.

Of the other tools available in Supremo Remote Desktop, one can note the multiple connections of users to one machine. To transfer files, a manager is used that resembles a classic two-panel one; uploading and downloading files is available. No presentation and multimedia functions are provided. This certainly limits the use of Supremo as a remote assistant.

Summary

Supremo Remote Desktop is an easy-to-use program that has standard set tools for remote control. It can be noticed by users who do not need multimedia features.

mRemoteNG

Speaking of universal tools that allow you to work with several protocols at the same time, mRemoteNG is worth mentioning. The program provides access to VNC, ICA, SSH, Telnet, RAW, Rlogin and HTTP / S, there is also support for RDP. Distributed in a portable and standard version of the installer for the Windows platform.

The mRemoteNG interface is represented by several sections, there are panels, tabbedness - as a result, it is easy for the user to configure appearance programs in your own way. The main options are available in the "Configuration" section. Here you can specify the protocol required for connection and related parameters: connection settings, protocol, gateway, appearance, resources, and others. The 'Configuration' displays the connection status of the host.

Connection with devices is carried out through the quick connection panel - it is easy to create several configurations here, which, in the case of many protocols, is very convenient. Connections can be grouped and configurations can be easily imported/exported.

File transfer is carried out via the SSH protocol - which is not very familiar to the average user and at the same time, more reliable in terms of security. To additional features refers to a port scanner, external tools can be added to the list.

The indistinctness of mRemoteNG is striking. This is manifested in an unusual interface: it is not so convenient to work and configure with each specific protocol. In the connection configuration, many parameters are reduced beyond recognition - this can be attributed to the quality of localization. When you try to find a description of the functions, the documentation is silent, its sections are empty.

Summary

A notable feature of mRemoteNG is the combination of popular protocols into a single graphical shell. By setting up multiple connections, there is no need to use multiple specialized solutions. This plus to some extent compensates for the non-intuitiveness of the program and the lack of documentation.

TightVNC

Homepage: http://www.tightvnc.com/

TightVNC Software develops several products: TightProjector, RFB Player, VNC Reflector and TightVNC. TightVNC is a remote control program, you can use it to solve computer problems, educational purposes, and administration.

TightVNC is a cross platform solution. For Linux, however, at the time of writing, only the old version of the program is available, Mac OS is not supported. However, there is a version of TightVNC on the Java platform available, which implies the possibility of remote control via a web server. On the Windows platform, TightVNC is installed as a regular application or as a system service. Quiet mode is supported, it is quite easy to transfer the configuration to other computers or remotely update the server.

The TightVNC toolkit is divided into two modules: WinVNC - a server part installed on a remote machine, and a Viewer application designed to view the contents of the screen remote server. In the Viewer connection settings, the VNS server address and transmission speed are set.

It should be noted that TightVNC does not generate an access password, you need to define it yourself in the settings. The connection status can be recognized by the icon displayed in the notification area: if at least one user is connected to the computer, the colors of the icon change.

The developers hint that data transfer via VNC, despite the initial DES password protection, is imperfect. For security reasons, it is recommended to use SSH tunneling. At the same time, TightVNC settings can reduce the likelihood of unauthorized access to zero. In future versions of the program, it is also planned to introduce more reliable protection methods.

Summary

TightVNC surprises with a large number of settings regarding connection, security. it a good choice for the administrator, but in terms of transfer to the server and further maintenance - not the best option for an inexperienced user.

Remote Utilities

Remote Utilities is a solution, according to the developer, designed for small and medium businesses. Remote control is possible directly, via a local network or the Internet. When working with a set of utilities, no firewall adjustment or pre-configuration is required.

The complex works only under Windows, for Linux it is proposed to install the Wine emulator - but only for working with RUT-Viewer. mobile version missing.

Remote Utilities consists of three modules: viewer - installed on local computer, host - remote, agent - module for user support. The agent, it should be noted, is optimal for quickly establishing communication between the client and the host. Remote installation, as well as updating, is a breeze thanks to the Remote installation tool.

Connection in one of the above modes is made using the New connection dialog (Connection → Add Computer), you can specify an IP address, Internet ID or DNS as an access point. The connected computer is added to the address book list, from which the desired devices are subsequently selected.

In-house remote control tools are provided, such as a remote device manager, registry viewer, terminal, and file manager. A two-panel manager with the ability to copy and move data, launch and open applications and documents on a remote host. Also available support for terminals, power control.

Text chat is quite simple, but be aware that Remote Utilities also offers audio/video chats to users. Worth mentioning here is the ability to capture video and adjust the transmission quality - from 24-bit color to an optimized "picture" for a network with limited transmission (in addition, there is a Network usage mode parameter in the Properties settings of the remote computer). In a word, there are those features that have been listed more than once in similar programs with RDP support.

Remote Utilities assumes 3 types of authorization, AES encryption with a 256-bit key, a 2048-bit public key. Incoming connections are filtered by IP, you can also create a list of trusted users with different access rights. The security subsystem is optional: you can choose RUT or WinNT. Both modes allow you to flexibly configure access to certain functions for each user, there are no significant differences between them.

Summary

A simple set of utilities for remote connection, without choosing a connection protocol, but extremely clear in installation and configuration. Essentially lacking cross-platform and user-friendly interface to work with multiple devices at the same time.

Hi all! Imagine you are leaving. It doesn't matter: to the office on the next street for a few hours, on a business trip or on vacation. But you know for sure: you may need the data that is stored on your home computer. For some reason, you can't take them with you: for example, you don't know exactly which books from your huge library you'll need or which samples you'll want to put into a song you're writing in the islands. But you will need access to your home computer.

Good news for you: humanity has long figured out how to remotely connect to a computer via the Internet. True, you need to prepare for this event in advance. In the article below, we'll show you how.

There will be 2 methods involved. The first is using standard Windows applications, and the second with the help of third-party programs.

Remote access to a computer via the Internet using Windows

Remember the lines included in the joke from the old Nokia instructions? Well, yes, “to use this function, the phone must be turned on”? You will laugh, but we will also play Captain Obvious: in order for you to remotely connect to your computer, it must remain turned on and connected to the Internet.

But this is an obvious consideration. There are also not so clear: for example, the interaction between two computers - your home and the one through which you will connect - is based on the “client-server” scheme, and your home computer will act as the server, and the one you have with yourself. Before you connect to another computer via the Internet, you need to prepare both.

Let's start with home computer. Let's assume it's on it. I must say that the Home version is not suitable for this function to work: you must have at least Windows 10 Pro.

The first step is to allow remote connection to your computer. This is done using the system tools: go to Control Panel / System / System Protection / Remote Access, find the line “Allow remote connection” there and check the box there.

The second thing you need is a static IP address. In the same Control Panel, go to the "Network and Internet / Network Connections" section, find the adapter that is in this moment is used and right-click to bring up its menu.

Click on "Properties", select the line "IP version 4" and click on "Properties" in the same tab. Here you need, available locally, but not used by the router (the occupied range can be found in the menu of the router itself). In the line "Subnet mask" is usually entered "255.255.255.0.", And in the line "Default gateway" - the IP of your router. It can also be entered as a DNS server, but options are possible here. So, for example, Google's public DNS addresses are also valid: 8.8.4.4 and 8.8.8.8.

For example it could be like this:

On the router, you will also need to configure port 3389 (how to do this - read the instructions for the router or in thematic discussions).

However, all the manipulations from this point can be avoided if, when leaving, you turn off the router altogether and leave the computer connected directly to the provider's network. Then you only need to know yours and make sure with the provider that it will remain unchanged.

How to prepare a terminal using Windows

By "terminal" we mean the computer from which you will connect to your remote. All you need for this is an application called "Remote Desktop". Your version of Windows may already have it. And if not, you can download it from the Microsoft App Store.

The application is made in Modern-style, with the expectation of touch displays, but it is also convenient to work with it in the traditional way. To add your home computer, you need to click the plus button on the right upper corner window. In the drop-down menu, select Desktop (Computer) and enter the access data - a local IP address if the computer is on the same network as you, or an external one if you connect via the Internet.

To access your computer, you will need account information. If you are using an account Microsoft entry, enter its details. If local, enter the username and password. Click "Save" to avoid entering data every time you connect. Of course, if you're using the Remote Desktop app on someone else's computer, you don't need to save your login information on it.

At correct setting after connecting, you will be able to see the desktop of your computer in the program window and run any programs or open files from it.

We only considered the option when Windows 10 Pro is installed on the remote computer. Other versions of Windows do not have this functionality or need more fine tuning. However, remote control of a computer via the Internet is also possible through universal solutions, which we will discuss below.

Third Party Remote Access Tools

While Windows has its own remote access organization, there are third party programs that do it better. Let's take a look at some of the most famous of them.

teamviewer

One of the first programs that more or less dedicated people thought of when they saw the title was TeamViewer. Naturally, we will start with it.

The advantages of this program are not only well-known and popular (and as a result - commercial success, demanding users and attentive developers, plus support). TeamViewer is a fairly simple, flexible and multifunctional solution. By and large, you don't even need a second computer to connect to your home: an iPhone, iPad, or Android device is enough. Clients exist for most mobile platforms, plus Windows, OS X, and Linux.

In addition to remote desktop, the application supports voice and video calls. So, for example, if one of your relatives or colleagues still has access to your computer and needs your help, you can chat as you work right in TeamViewer without leaving your session or using other programs.

Your connection will be protected by 256-bit AES encryption, so intercepting it is almost useless.

The most valuable property of the program, which cannot be overestimated, is the ability to turn on your home computer on a signal via the Internet. If in your absence there were many hours of power outages, no UPS will help. But TeamViewer will allow your computer to turn on on demand from the outside.

And one more plus - the program is not divided into client and server parts. It is enough to install a single version on both computers. And then everything is configured in a few clicks.

The disadvantage of the program, by and large, is only one: the cost. A single copy license for a private user costs about $200. But if timely access to a computer is worth it - why not?

Radmin

The name of this product means "Remote Administrator", which immediately conveys its purpose. By their own functionality it roughly corresponds to Team Viewer: you can remotely access your computer, turn it on and off network commands, run programs, open files, and transfer data between the remote PC and the terminal.

Radmin is inferior to TeamViewer only in some aspects: it does not offer applications for mobile devices, does not provide simultaneous access to a computer from several terminals, and is not so common.

One of the main advantages of Radmin is the price. A single license for the program to access one computer will cost only 1250 rubles - that's just over $ 20: ten times cheaper than Team Viewer! At the same time, you will get all the benefits of commercial programs: ongoing support,

However, if you need a completely free solution, there is one too.

UltraVNC

Yes, it exists! Free App, which works on the same principle as the above. But remote access to a computer via the Internet, it is very high quality.

Yes, UltraVNC is inferior to commercial solutions in some aspects. So, to provide 256-bit encryption, you will need to install a special plugin. The desktop client is only for Windows, while the mobile clients are only for Android and iOS. There is no built-in voice communication, so remote support will have to be done using Skype or regular phone, or the built-in text chat.

But, on the other hand, a remote access tool for free is not such a frequent pleasure. Therefore, we recommend that you first use UltraVNC, and then, if some important functions are sorely lacking, turn to commercial products.

It would be great sitting at one computer to open files on another, listen to music on the third, chat with friends on Skype on the fourth and print documents on the fifth. Someone will say: "This is fantastic." And I will answer: “No, reality!” To establish remote access to a computer that is as far away from you as you like, all you need is the permission of its owner and access to the Internet.

Remote connections are used very widely - to administer the company's computer park, help users, access files when you have to work on different machines. And it's very convenient. Today I will talk about ways to manage the desktop of a remote PC using the operating system and three third-party programs.

AeroAdmin

In the advanced options window, go to the " Remote access» and mark the items highlighted in the screenshot. I show on the example of Windows 8.1. In others Windows versions the view of the window is slightly different, but similar options are in the same place.

If, like me, you're setting up access on a Windows 8.1 machine, create a "white list" of who will be allowed to communicate with it. Click " Select Users' and add the names you want.

This completes the setup.

Subsequent actions are performed on the operator's machine.

  • For quick start « Remote Desktop»Press the hot keys Windows + R and type in the field « Open» team mstsc.
  • In the login parameters, write the name of the computer to which you are connecting (indicated on the system properties tab of the same name), as well as the user - your account On him. Let me remind you that the account must have a password.
  • Click to start the session To plug».

Now let's take a look at the rest of the sections of this window. If you want, set on the tab " Screen» remote PC desktop size and color depth (but note that a high resolution and the highest color quality will slow down the connection).

Adjust, if necessary, " Local Resources”- sound broadcast, hotkey management, shared clipboard, and more.

In chapter " Interaction» set performance parameters depending on the connection speed. Here, as a rule, nothing needs to be changed.

On the tab " Additionally» Find the best default security settings.

So after clicking " To plug» the password input window will open. Type it in and click OK.

The desktop of the remote computer opens in a new window. Manage it in the same way as the one you are currently sitting at.

If there is a user behind that machine, after connecting, the user's session will be logged out and the splash screen will be displayed. He will be able to log in again as soon as you close "Remote Desktop".

teamviewer

In the next window, enter the partner's password and click " Login».

By the way, the program is not bad as a means of parental control.

To remotely control your own PC, for example, home - from work, just assign it to TeamViewer permanent password. To do this, go to the menu " Connection” and click “ Set up uncontrolled access».

Set a password and click " Proceed».

And we will complete the work of the wizard.

Use the ID number shown in the last box and the password you just assigned to connect.

Ammyy Admin

The remote screen of Ammyy Admin, unlike TeamViewer, is not scalable, but the main functions - management, file transfer and voice chat are present in it. The control panel is shown in the screenshot below.

Warning : AmmyyAdmins really dislike antiviruses, although there is nothing malicious in it. If your antivirus tries to block a program, add it to the exception list or suspend protection for the duration of the session.

Remote worker Windows table, TeamViewer, Ammyy, Admin and other similar applications protect your data from interception from the outside through strong encryption. Therefore, working with them is comfortable, safe and you can not be afraid for the confidentiality of information. Use and enjoy!

What is Remote Desktop

Using Windows Remote Desktop (rdp) can be a very useful and convenient solution to the problem. remote access to a computer. When can remote desktop be useful? If you want to control your computer remotely (as local network and from anywhere in the world). Of course, third-party ones, such as, and others, can also be used for these purposes. But often these programs require access confirmation on the side of the remote computer, they are not suitable for simultaneous parallel use of the computer by several users, and still work slower than the remote desktop. Therefore, such programs are more suitable for remote assistance or maintenance, but not for everyday work.

It can be quite convenient to use Remote Desktop to work with users certain programs. For example, if you need to demonstrate the operation of a program to a far away user (provide the possibility of demo access for testing). Or, for example, in your office there is only one powerful computer on which the demanding program is installed. On other weak computers, it slows down, and everyone needs access. Then a good solution would be to use a remote desktop: everyone from their “dead” computers connects via rdp to a powerful one and uses the program on it, without interfering with each other.

Static ip address. What is needed for remote access via rdp

One of important points concerning setup and subsequent use of remote desktop is the need for a static ip address on the remote computer. If you are setting up a remote desktop that will only be used within the local network, then there is no problem. However, in general, the remote desktop is used just for access from the outside. Most providers provide subscribers with dynamic ip-addresses and this is quite enough for normal use. Static ("white") ip-shniks, as a rule, are provided for an additional fee.

Windows Remote Desktop Setup

Well, why you need a remote desktop figured out. Now let's set it up. The instructions discussed here are suitable for Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10. In all of the listed operating systems, the setting is similar, the differences are minor and only in how to open some windows.

First you need to configure the computer to which we will connect.

Attention! Your account must have administrator rights.

1. Open Start - Control Panel .

In Windows 8.1 and 10, it is convenient to open Control Panel by pressing right click mouse on icon Start and choosing from the list Control Panel .

Next, select system and safety - System. (This window can also be opened in another way: by clicking Start, then right click on A computer and choose Properties ).

Setting up remote access .

3. Section Remote Desktop choose:

- Only allow connections from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication . Suitable for clients with version 7.0 of Remote Desktop installed.

- . Suitable for connecting legacy client versions.

4. Click Apply .

5. By button Select Users a window opens in which you can specify the accounts on the computer that will be allowed to remote connection. (This procedure is also known as adding a user to a group )

Users with administrator rights have remote desktop access by default. However, in addition to actually connecting, any account must be password protected, even the administrator account.

6. Add to the group Remote Desktop Users new user with normal rights (not administrator). To do this, press the button Add

In field Enter names selected objects, we will enter the name of our user. I have it Access1. Let's press Check names .

If everything is correct, then the computer name will be added to the username. Click OK .

If we do not remember the exact username or do not want to enter it manually, press Additionally .

In the window that opens, press the button Search .

In field searching results All computer users and local groups will appear. Select the desired user and click OK .

When all the desired users have been selected in the window Choice: Users press OK .

Now to the group Remote Desktop Users a user with a regular account will be added Access1. To apply the changes, click OK .

7. If you are using a third-party, you will need to further configure it, namely, open TCP port 3389. If you only have the built-in Windows firewall, then you do not need to do anything, it will be configured automatically as soon as we have allowed the use of remote desktop on the computer .

This completes the basic setup of the remote computer.

Network settings, port forwarding

As mentioned above, for remote desktop access needed static ip address.

If you do not have any routers and the Internet cable goes directly to the computer, then skip this section, go to the next one. If you use a router, then you need to perform additional settings in it.

If you plan to use Remote Desktop only on the local network, then it will be enough just to assign the local ip to the right computer(do the first part, without port forwarding). If you need access from outside, then you also need . To open access to the remote desktop, you need to forward TCP port 3389.

Configuring a Remote Desktop Connection

Let's go directly to remote desktop connection, that is, client-side settings.

1. Run .

You can do this in Windows 7 through the menu Start - All programs - Standard - Remote Desktop Connection .

In Windows 8, it is convenient to launch through the search. Click Start, click on the magnifying glass icon in the upper right corner and start typing the word "remote" in the search field. From the suggested search options, select Remote Desktop Connection .

On Windows 10: Start - All applications - Standard Windows - Remote Desktop Connection .

2. First of all, let's check which version of the protocol is installed. To do this, click on the icon in the upper left corner and select the item About the program .

Checking the version of the desktop protocol. If 7.0 or higher, then everything is in order, you can connect.

If the protocol version is lower (this is possible on older versions of Windows), then you must either update it or lower the security level in the settings of the remote computer (i.e. select Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop (more dangerous) ).

You can download Remote Desktop updates for legacy operating systems using the links below:

3. Specify the connection parameters:

In field A computer We prescribe the ip-address of the remote computer to which we are going to connect. (Local - if we connect within the local network and real (the one given by the Internet provider) if the remote computer is outside the local network). I have the first option.

Note. You can find out what external static ip-address you have, for example, through the Yandex.Internetometer service.

4. Click To plug .

You will be prompted to enter credentials. Enter the login and password of any user on the remote computer that has rights to use the remote desktop. In my example this is Admin or Access1. I remind you that accounts must be password protected.

Enter your username and password, check the box next to Remember credentials so you don't have to enter them the next time you connect. Of course, remembering credentials is possible only if you work with personal computer to which unauthorized persons do not have access.

Click OK .

A warning pops up. Put a tick Don't ask me again about connections to this computer and press Yes .

If everything is done correctly, then you will see a remote desktop in front of you.

Note. I remind you that you cannot simultaneously connect via remote work from several computers under one user. That is, if it is planned that remote computer If several people work at the same time, then for each you will need to create a separate user and grant rights to use the remote desktop. This is done on a remote computer, as discussed at the beginning of the article.

Advanced Remote Desktop Settings

Now a few words about advanced settings connections to a remote table.

To open the settings menu, click on Options .

General tab

Here you can change the connection settings. By clicking on the edit link, you can edit the username and password of the connection.

Already configured connection settings can be saved. Click on the button Save as and choose a place, for example, Desktop . Now on Desktop a shortcut will appear that immediately launches a remote desktop connection without the need to specify parameters. This is very convenient, especially if you periodically work with several remote computers or if you do not configure it for yourself and do not want to confuse users.

Screen tab

On the tab Screen you can specify the size of the remote desktop (it will occupy the entire screen of your monitor or be displayed in a small separate window).

You can also select the color depth. If the Internet connection speed is slow, it is recommended to select a lower depth.

Local Resources tab

Here you can configure the sound parameters (play it on a remote computer or on a client computer, etc.), the order of using combinations of hot Windows keys(such as Ctrl+Alt+Del, Ctrl+C, etc.) when working with a remote desktop.

One of the most useful sections here is this Local Devices and resources . Checking the box Printer, you get the ability to print documents from a remote desktop on your local printer. Check mark Clipboard activates a single clipboard between the remote desktop and your computer. That is, you can use normal copy and paste operations to transfer files, folders, etc. from a remote computer to yours and vice versa.

Clicking on the button More, you will be taken to the settings menu where you can connect to a remote desktop additional devices your computer.

For example, you want to have access to your disk while working on a remote computer D. Then click on the plus sign Devices to expand the list and tick the disk D. Click OK .

Now when you connect to a remote desktop, you will see and access your disk D through Conductor as if it were physically connected to a remote computer.

Advanced tab

Here you can select the connection speed to achieve maximum performance, as well as set the display of the desktop background, visual effects, etc.

Removing a Remote Desktop Connection

Finally, consider how to delete remote desktop connection. When is it needed? For example, earlier remote access was organized to your computer, and now the need for this has disappeared, or even you need to prohibit strangers from connecting to the remote desktop of your computer. It is very easy to do this.

1. Open Control Panel - system and safety - System, as they did at the beginning of the article.

2. In the left column, click on Setting up remote access .

3. Section Remote Desktop choose:

- Do not allow connections to this computer

Ready. Now no one can connect to you via Remote Desktop.

There are many programs on the network for remote control of a computer. And all of them are somehow paid with various restrictions for the free version.

However, in the operating room Windows system there are built-in functions that allow you to perform remote desktop management and this tool is called "Remote Windows Assistant 7 "and if you use it as described in the manual, then this is an extremely inconvenient tool. Since for each communication session it is required to create an invitation file and send it to the person who will connect.

And it's still okay if you're doing a one-time Internet connection to solve a problem. And if you need to constantly connect to the computer, then every time you ask the user to create and send an invitation file, it's overhead. Therefore, let's consider a mode that is designed to manage client machines on a local network without sending an invitation.

The standard algorithm of the program is as follows. First you need to allow to manage (My computer \ RMB \ Properties \ Extra options system\Allow connections to this PC\Advanced\Allow control\Set the time limit during which the invitation will remain open)

Now you need to create an invitation file through which you can connect to the desktop via the Internet (Start \ All Programs \ Services \ Windows Remote Assistance \ Invite someone you trust to help \ Save invitation as a file). We save the file on a public resource or send it via the Internet along with a password!

Next, launch Remote Assistance on the computer from which we will connect ( Start\All Programs\Services\Windows 7 Remote Assistance, in Windows 10 and 8, access to the assistant was removed from the menu, so you will need to run it through Run (Win + R) \ msra \ Help the one who invited you \ Use the invitation file \ Enter the password \ Next, the client must allow you to view your desktop \ Request control, to be able to control the mouse and keyboard )

How do you see, this process quite long and not comfortable. Therefore, let's set up remote assistance without the need to send an invitation file. But, this method will only work on a local network, in which you can directly connect to a computer via an IP address. If you need to connect via the Internet, you will have to generate an invitation file!

To configure remote access on all computers, I will use the domain group policy. As you already understood, I demonstrate the work of remote assistance in the virtual network that we created as a result of completing the free video course "Installation and configuration Windows Server 2008R2. Although this method is designed to work in a domain network, it is also suitable for working in working group or peer-to-peer network.

Let's go to settings group policy(Start\Administrative Tools\Group Policy Management\Domains\office.local\Default Domain Policy\Settings\RMB\Change\Computer Configuration\Policy\Administrative Templates\System\Remote Assistance).

Here you need to configure 2 parameters:

Help Request \ Enable \ Helpers can control the computer;

Offer Help \ Enable \ Helpers \ Show \ Value (enter the name of the user account that will have access to connect to the computer, specifying the domain): office\sysadmin.

Now we need to apply the policy to the computers, we can either restart the workstations or force the policy update via Run \cmd\gpupdate.

Let's try to connect to the workstation, for this you need to start the "Remote Assistance" in the mode of offering help. To do this, add the /offerra key to the program name, resulting in msra.exe /offerra. It's best to create a shortcut with the msra.exe /offerra command!

Enter an IP address or Domain name the computer to which we want to connect, we allow access to the connection, and then to management! You can also launch the "Conversation" chat to chat with the user.

As you can see, with this method, no user manipulation is required, except for permission to connect and manage, and it's completely free! If you are interested in the implementation this method in the working group, then write in the comments, if the topic is popular, I will make a video for the working group.

As you understand, in order to connect to a computer, you need to know its IP address or DNS name. If the user is weak, it will be difficult for him to explain where to look at the IP address of the machine. In this case, I use the BGinfo program which adds various parameters to the desktop wallpaper. I already did it too.

I would add the following here, in the video for this program I made a black background so that the characteristics could be seen on the wallpaper of any color. But, you can simply duplicate the address in white and black. Thus, the user will in any case see the required settings.
