At IFA 2013, held at the Berlin Exhibition Center, a new tablet computer from Toshiba was introduced - this is the Excite Pro (AT-10LE-A) model with a 10.1-inch screen and NVIDIA Tegra 4 performance platform. The tablet is devoid of any external frills, but captivates with its technical specifications. This is both a powerful processor and a screen with high resolution 2560 x 1600 pixels, and Harman Kardon stereo speakers. We have the opportunity to take a closer look at the device and tell you about the impressions of working with Toshiba ExcitePro.

Frame

The tablet from the Japanese company Toshiba in terms of appearance and design is not much different from other 10-inch models that are currently on the market in the widest variety. The mobile computer looks strict and restrained.

There is no place for shiny aluminum or any rubberized surfaces. The front panel of the device is covered protective glass, the back side is characterized by textured plastic with a matte finish so that the tablet does not slip out of your hands.

On top are two microphones and a power button.

All interfaces and connectors are placed on one of the ends of the device.

Under the cover, which is held on by a rubber hair, there are micro HDMI and micro USB connectors, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and an SD card slot, as well as a standard size SIM card slot.

From the point of view of aesthetics, this option is good, but from the point of view of use, it is rather difficult to remove and insert a memory card or SIM card, because. there is very little space between the cards and the side wall of the tablet, and it is rather difficult to take one of the cards with two fingers.

Also, the decision to move the volume rocker to the left side of the device (if you hold the tablet horizontally) seems not entirely justified. Periodically, during operation, you accidentally touch the volume control with your hand and the volume settings menu appears on the screen. If the rocker were next to the computer power button, it would be almost impossible to turn it on by accident.

An interesting element was found on the lower end of the device, there was a place for attaching a strap, the strap itself is not included in the kit.

The weight of the tablet is about 630 grams, which is not so small, given the mobile nature of the use of the device. But here you need to take into account the large 10-inch screen. But the build quality of the case is on top.

Screen

The Excite Pro model has a beautiful 10.1-inch touch screen PixelPureTM, powered by IPS matrices, which supports a resolution of 2560x1600 pixels. The display is definitely strong point"Japanese". The pixel density (ppi) reaches 299 dpi. The same iPad Air, however, with a screen diagonal of 9.7 inches, is characterized by a lower ppi. The display of the Excite Pro tablet has very good viewing angles.

The pluses include excellent image detail, a good margin of brightness and optimal color reproduction. It is simply impossible to notice individual pixels on such a screen, even if you look closely. The screen is able to automatically adjust the contrast and brightness of the picture depending on the lighting conditions, so you can read text or watch movies even in direct sunlight on the street. By the way, you can watch movies in FullHD quality on the screen of the Excite Pro tablet without any conversion.

In a word, it is difficult to make any serious complaints about the work of a high-quality IPS matrix - the image on the screen of a Toshiba tablet will please even the most demanding users. The display surface is protected by an additional reinforced layer to prevent scratches during intensive use. Thanks to the large viewing angles, you can watch movies and videos together, which, no doubt, is very convenient.

Performance

The Excite Pro tablet uses the powerful NVIDIA Tegra 4 mobile platform, which consists of a quad-core ARM processor Cortex-A15, accelerating to a frequency of 1.9 GHz, and a subsystem responsible for graphics processing. Also at the disposal of the device is 2 GB random access memory and 32 GB of internal memory, of which only about 26 GB are available to the user. However, if there is not enough memory to accommodate files, photos and videos, you can always expand it with SD cards. The modern NVIDIA Tegra 4 platform provides the device with really high performance, no matter what the task is set by the user. Even the most resource-intensive application works great on the Excite Pro tablet.

Performance test:

Comparison of Excite Pro with the test leaders:

You can watch movies in Full HD quality or videos on the Internet without the slightest delay. There are no problems with Full HD - you just need to download from the network and install the "omnivorous" MX Player, because. out of the box, its own player does not want to play almost anything. The device works quickly, while the productive platform heats up the tablet body slightly. But when working with graphics, in the same Google Maps, and when playing streaming video, the top left side of the device heats up significantly.

Operating system and software

The Toshiba tablet computer works under control of the Android 4.2.1 operating system. It is noteworthy that no own add-on or additional software shell, as is often the case in other similar devices, is not provided here.

Quite a few are preinstalled by default. third party programs, the value of some for all users is not obvious.

Toshiba's own file manager turned out to be very convenient.

And of course office suite ThinkFree, at this display resolution, all documents look great and are very convenient to work with.

Travelers will especially like Toshiba Excite Pro (AT10LE-A), GPS works perfectly, there are all kinds of sensors - accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, light sensor, and due to the resolution and screen size, working with maps is a pleasure.

Sound

Separately, it should be noted a fairly high-quality sound. The Excite Pro tablet has loud Harman Kardon stereo speakers hidden under decorative mesh on the right and left sides of the device. This arrangement of the speakers should guarantee a decent sound, which, in principle, most models cannot boast of. tablet computers, primarily due to the small size of its body.

The built-in Harman Kardon speakers feature DTS Premium Voice Pro technology for superior sound quality across a wide range of music styles and genres. Clear and crisp sound is maintained even in noisy environments. According to subjective feelings, the sound of the tablet is really good, although nothing outstanding can be said about this.

Cameras

The Toshiba tablet computer is equipped with two built-in cameras - an 8-megapixel main camera for video recording and an additional 1.2-megapixel camera for making video calls.

As for the main camera, nothing special can be said about it, the camera does a good job if you need to capture something on the go. If we consider the capabilities of the camera in more detail, then a rather mediocre color reproduction, autofocus periodically misses, the zoom function is extremely weak, even with a double zoom, the image begins to disintegrate into pixels, the LED acting as a flash is useless.

The video recorded by the main camera of the tablet also lacks stars from the sky. There is a suspicion that not everything is in order with focusing while shooting a video, all videos are not very clear.

Autonomy of work

According to the statements of representatives of the manufacturer, the tablet is able to work on a single charge. battery up to 9.5 hours of continuous video playback.

Let's see how this statement looks in practice.

In standby mode, the device behaves very well, the discharge is insignificant, by 8% per day, i.e. 10 days of standby time can easily be expected from the Excite Pro.

In everyday use mode - mail, skype, reading news, about an hour of browsing the Internet, social networks, the battery lasted one full day. In the evening, the tablet was charged, no one used it at night, and during the day it was used as a workhorse.

The most energy-consuming was the playback of HD video. With WiFi, 3G, screen brightness 50%, sound 50%, playing a video from an SD card, the battery was discharged from 95% to 0% in 6 hours and 10 minutes.

By the way, the device, unfortunately, does not support work in high-speed LTE networks, it is also not supported voice transmission data.

The synthetic battery test carried out showed that the tested device shows excellent results in terms of power consumption and energy saving, taking second place after the Motorola Xoom, a very good result.

A little about charging the tablet. The tablet is charged not through the micro USB port - a separate connector is provided for this, where the power cable is connected. The tablet is powered by a power supply, which is difficult to call tiny. The question arises why such a bulky power supply is needed, if with an output voltage of 12V and a current of 3A, a 33 Wh battery is charged for more than 4 hours and you get another 150 grams of wires and a power supply in addition to 630 grams of tablet weight.

conclusions. Tablet computer Toshiba Excite Pro (AT10LE-A) turned out with its own advantages and disadvantages. Of the minuses - a relatively large weight, which may seem excessive to someone for a gadget of this class, a fairly simple appearance, no frills, a weak camera.

But there are much more pluses. High-quality IPS display with high resolution, powerful stuffing in the form of a productive NVIDIA Tegra 4 platform, decent sound and good autonomy of the device. The attractive characteristics of the Toshiba tablet may be of interest to many Russian users who need an unpretentious, productive mobile computer for entertainment and work.

On the market android tablet More and more new brands are appearing, and eminent brands are not left out. We got a tablet from Toshiba, this Japanese manufacturer has not previously met in Russia in the tablet segment. Today we have Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro in our tests, it is interesting not only for the logo on the case, but also as the first NVIDIA Tegra 4-based device we tested.

Toshiba did not exchange for budget devices, presenting a top solution that will compete in the market with representatives of the Samsung product lines Galaxy Note and Apple iPad. And at first glance, he has all the makings for this, but whether everything is so rosy, we'll see in the course of extended testing.

Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro Availability

At the time of testing, the average cost of Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro, according to the Yandex.Market service, is 21,990 rubles.

Equipment

The tablet comes in a package that is more typical of laptops than tablets. This is an ordinary cardboard package with a minimum of useful data.

Complete with the tablet, the buyer receives network adapter, by the way, it is unusual to see such a power supply in tablets, apparently, the experience of Toshiba laptops is already so strong that it will inevitably affect this direction.

Appearance

Dimensions Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro are 261x179x11 mm and weighs 630 grams. The tablet is unusually thick, at first one gets the feeling that it is not an Android tablet in the hands, but a Windows-based solution.

This solution has a strict design, it is rather a male tablet designed for business people.

Partially the thickness of the case is offset by rounded side edges, it is comfortable to hold it in your hands. The main body material is plastic, glossy on the front surface and silvery metal on the lid.

The main elements are concentrated in the left upper corner. On the side is the power button and volume rocker. The headphone and charging ports are open, while the micro SD, SIM, mini HDMI and micro USB slots are closed.

Using a stub, judging by experience, is not the most the best solution, with active use, this cover will quickly lose its original appearance and simply be lost.

On the back cover are paired speakers with a metal mesh, a main camera eye and an LED flash. The plastic itself on the back panel has an embossed surface.

The build quality is excellent, no creaking or play of parts is observed.

Display

A high-quality IPS-matrix with a diagonal of 10.1 inches and a resolution of WQXGA (2560x1600) is used. The pixel density is 299 PPI. Pixelation is not observed. The display has excellent viewing angles and high-quality color reproduction. The Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro screen is equally good for watching movies and reading electronic documents.

The screen is multi-touch, up to 10 simultaneous touches are supported. An oleophobic coating is used, fingerprints are erased very quickly. Another advantage is the presence of a polarizing filter, the screen is weakly glare, and the image remains legible in direct sunlight.

Filling

The heart of the tablet was the NVIDIA Tegra 4 system, the same chip that was talked about a lot, but which, unfortunately, did not become mass. Here, the technology of switching between groups of cores is applied, when performance is required, four cores are involved, with everyday tasks only one energy-saving core is used.

Based on ARM Cortex-A15 with ARMv7-A instructions. The clock frequency is 1800 GHz with the ability to switch to 800 MHz mode to conserve battery. This system made on a 28-nm process technology, which is also characterized by energy savings. The performance level is enough to run the interface smoothly and run complex games. Responsible for graphics NVIDIA GeForce with an effective frequency of 672 MHz.

Onboard 2 GB RAM and 32 GB storage expandable with microSD cards. NVIDIA Tegra 4 supports dual-channel memory interface.

Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro Summary

Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro turned out to be ambiguous, it has its pros and cons. Nevertheless, this solution attracts attention, standing out among the flagship solutions available on Russian market. Holding it in your hands for the first time, you are looking for a switch button between operating systems, it is more like a Windows tablet, and not a representative of the Android family.
Pros: high performance, WQXGA resolution, high-quality IPS, long battery life, smooth operation and no lags, 3G and GPS support, dual-band Wi-Fi. Cons: package bundle, lack of the possibility of recharging via microUSB, a plug on the microUSB and miniHDMI connectors.
Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro wins a well-deserved Silver Award..

Until recently, Japanese Android tablets could not be found on the Russian market at all. To be honest, there is nothing to regret here: most of the Japanese tablets are designed specifically for the Japanese market. They are unable to compete with the dominant in the territory Russian Apple and Samsung. Things are somewhat different with the Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro model: the characteristics of the device fully comply with the requirements and trends of the modern domestic electronics market. It is quite capable of competing with popular gadgets.

Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro: ergonomics and appearance

No matter how strange it may seem, but the appearance of the Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro tablet helps to tune in to the working mood. There are no decorations in the design of the tablet. The exterior of the tablet is very strict, one might say masculine. Toshiba engineers decided not to build thin devices. The average case thickness of the Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro is 10.5mm. There is nothing wrong with that. Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro doesn't look bulky. But the weight of the device is quite decent - 630 grams.

It will be hard for the fair sex to work with him. The side edges of the tablet are strongly rounded, so they do not cut into the palm of your hand. The frame around the screen has a standard size. Thanks to this, the device is quite comfortable to hold in any orientation. There are no controls here. Navigation keys are all touch sensitive. On the top of the panel you can see the front camera, and on the bottom there is a Harman / Kardon sticker, which somewhat spoils the overall appearance of the device. It is better to amputate it immediately after purchase.

Ergonomic tablet Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro does not raise questions. All buttons and connectors are located very conveniently. You can even control the device blindly. On the top edge is the button to turn on the tablet. The volume control button is located on the left side of the device. It's not hard to reach her at all. All connectors are located next to this button. The user will be able to find here a standard 3.5 mm audio jack, which is located slightly above the control key.

This is done so that the headset wire does not interfere with working with the device. Under the plastic cover, you can find micro-HDMI and Micro-USB connectors, as well as a connector for SIM cards s and Micro-SD. There is a lot of free space on the ends of the tablet. The back panel is somewhat narrowed towards the sides. Thus, the tablet seems a little slimmer visually. Plastic is used as the main material in the back of the device. The back has some relief, which allows the gadget to lie securely in the hand.

On the top of the panel there is a lens of the main 8 megapixel camera slightly recessed into the body. Next to it is an LED flash. The promised Harman/kardon stereo speakers can be found on the back panel. By the standards of modern tablet computers, they sound pretty good: loud and clear.

The appearance of the tablet as a whole creates a rather pleasant impression. This is such a workhorse, in which there is nothing superfluous. As the main material used in the design of the case, you can see plastic.

Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro: display

Unfortunately, tablets based on the Android operating system with a high screen resolution are a rarity today. The models themselves are actually not so few, but there are not so many truly successful specimens among them. It is for this reason that devices with Full HD resolution are of such interest among users.

By modern standards, the Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro tablet screen has a fairly high resolution - WQXGA (2560 by 1600). Such displays were first used by Samsung in the Google Nexus 10 gadget. The device was released at the end of 2012. There was very little sense from him. Most apps are not optimized for high resolution screens. But time goes by. Today Full HD is already a necessity.

The pixel density is 299 dpi. Thus, the psychological barrier can be considered successfully overcome. Individual pixels can only be seen by the most meticulous users. They will only be able to do it if they are armed with excellent glasses. There is no question of any pixelization at a distance of bent arms in this case.

It is quite pleasant to read electronic documents on the device. Even the sharpest fonts look pretty sharp. Movies and photos for such a small gadget look downright detailed. The tablet display is made according to IPS technology. It has fairly wide viewing angles. The touch layer supports up to 10 simultaneous touches. The device accurately and quickly responds to pressing and easily recognizes all gestures. On the surface of the front panel of the tablet there is an oleophobic coating that makes the gadget resistant to fingerprints.

Depending on the set backlight level, the luminosity of the white field ranges from 38.5 to 324 cd/m2. The tablet is comfortable to use both in absolute darkness and on a hot summer day. In high light conditions, a polarizing filter is very useful. The screen glares because there is an air gap between it and the front panel, but the information remains quite readable. The tablet automatically adjusts the backlight level to a comfortable level.

Most of the time he does it right. The maximum value of the black field luminosity is not too high - 0.38 cd/m2. This is good for contrast. When measured honestly with the simultaneous display of black and white fields on the screen, it reaches a value of 850:1, which is very commendable. Even at the maximum brightness level, blacks look very saturated. The gray color temperature is close to the reference value - 6500 K. On average, its value is 7500 K. At dark tones, the temperature rises to almost 8000 K. At all-white tones, it drops to a quite acceptable 7300 K. Theoretically, this means that the image on the screen it will turn out a little "colder" than necessary. But this is invisible to the naked eye.

The brightness of the display, as is customary with modern tablets, adjusts to the image displayed on it. For this reason, it will not be easy to measure gamma curves correctly. However, the scales seem to be set up quite neatly. The picture on the display looks correct and natural. The color gamut is almost the same as sRGB. The color saturation is exactly what it should be. It's pretty good, and not just for a tablet. In general, the Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro tablet has a good display. The only thing the manufacturer should do is to remove the air gap. It spoils the picture in strong ambient light. Everything else is pretty good. The picture is displayed in the smallest detail with a high level of color reproduction. Nothing to complain about.

Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro Performance

The Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro tablet has one interesting feature. This is one of the first tablets to run NVIDIA's new system-on-a-chip called Tegra 4. The concept of this platform is the same as in the third generation. Four full-fledged cores are used to perform resource-intensive tasks, and energy-saving ones are used to perform background processes. The main difference is that the previous generation used the outdated ARM Cortex cores - A9. In Tegra 4, they were replaced by ARM Cortex-A15 cores. Today it is one of the most powerful ARM architectures that works with the ARMv7-A instruction set. Four full-fledged cores in Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro operate at a frequency of 1.8 GHz. One energy-saving core runs on the Cortex-A15 architecture.

The manufacturing process has also changed: now instead of 40nm, 28nm is used. The gate uses a dielectric with a high permittivity. What benefits does it provide? Firstly, the 28nm process technology allows for economical use of energy, which in itself is not a bad thing. Tegra -3 consumption, if you remember, did not allow many devices to last until the end of the working day. In general, there are enough changes. All of them are for the better.

Despite the ultra-high screen resolution, which requires increased processing power, the Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro performs better than last year's leaders in tests. However, in terms of performance, the device still falls short. The reason, as you may have guessed, lies precisely in the high resolution. In the AnTuTu synthetic test, Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro managed to score only 28 thousand "parrots".
The tablet is equipped with two gigabytes of DDR3L RAM and 32 gigabytes of built-in flash, expandable with microSD memory cards. By the way, Tegra 4, unlike its predecessor, began to support a dual-channel memory interface, which again has a positive effect on performance.

Many budget models high-resolution tablets can't handle even basic tasks like surfing the web. Of course, the Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro is a bit more expensive, but it's a real pleasure to work with this tablet. The tablet smoothly displays the entire animation of the operating system. Switching between apps is also pretty smooth. Also, the tablet can simultaneously store many open programs. With walks around world wide web there shouldn't be any problems either. Even fancy pages on the Internet load quickly and do not cause the device to slow down. The result in the SunSpider test of 600ms is awesome.

As a graphics controller in Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro, an NVIDIA GeForce chip is used, consisting of 72 stream processors operating at a frequency of 672 MHz. The GPU module used in the Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro is quite powerful, but despite this, the Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro cannot be considered a gaming tablet. And all because of the same high resolution. The device handles 2D games and lighter 3D applications without difficulty. In more complex programs, the gadget starts to slow down somewhat. The number of frames per second falls below the prescribed 30. However, all games and applications did not swear at too high a resolution and started without any problems. The only drawback was some twitching of the image.

The Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro tablet recognizes many different media containers. It effortlessly plays Full HD movies. Computing power tablet Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro is enough for most tasks. Thus, we can say that Tegra 4 for NVIDIA was a tangible progress.

Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro: Communication

Toshiba's engineers clearly intended the AT10LE-A Excite Pro to be an advanced modern tablet. But despite this, the device has a rather modest set of modules. wireless communication. It is limited to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G modem. The tablet has neither NFC nor infrared. The first one simply had to be here, because today it is available even on budget-class devices. For Wi-Fi in the Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro tablet, the Broadcom BCM4335 module is responsible. It supports the IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n and 802.11 ac standards in the 2.4 and 5 GHz frequency bands. The device easily connects to public hotspots. Even if they are located far from the router. AT home network wifi device accelerated up to 15 Mbps. This is a very good indicator. For navigation, the tablet uses a built-in GPS module with A-GPS support. Just 30 seconds after launch, the device was able to detect 9 satellites. The navigation accuracy in this case was approximately 10-12 meters.

Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro: battery life

The Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro tablet uses a non-removable 32.9 Wh lithium polymer battery. Precisely because of this powerful battery body thickness and exceeds a whole centimeter. Many users even agree to such a sacrifice, if only the device lived longer without recharging. Given that the tablet is equipped bright screen with a high resolution and a powerful processor, this is not at all easy to achieve. However, the Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro tablet scored 727 on the AnTuTu profile test. From 98% to 17%, the device was discharged in 4 hours and 3 minutes.

This is a pretty good result. Most of the devices in this test can't last more than three hours. Thus, we can say that Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro is all right with battery life. When using "read" mode with disabled wireless networks and at the minimum brightness settings, the device worked for almost 11 hours.

Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro Camera

The Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro tablet uses two cameras: the main one with 8 megapixels and the front one with 1.2 megapixels. Nothing new can be written about the webcam. They are almost the same on all modern tablets. It doesn't have an autofocus feature. It will be possible to communicate in Skype using it only if there is good lighting. Otherwise, the image is too “noisy”. For tablets high price category The unspoken standard today is the 5 megapixel main camera.

The Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro uses an 8MP camera, which is unusual in itself. Daylight shots are pretty sharp. To the edges of the frame, the level of detail is significantly reduced. The colors look very natural, and the colors look moderately saturated. HDR mode highlights the frame, instead of adding depth to it. The autofocus function works quite accurately. Each frame must be duplicated several times to avoid blurring and misses.

All photos taken with the Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro main camera came out sharp. Printed documents and handwritten text are quite legible even in room lighting. Saturation, contrast and detail drop in low light. Although it was quite expected. In fact, the eight-megapixel camera Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro turned out to be quite an ordinary device, without obvious advantages and disadvantages.

Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro: Software

Toshiba AT10LE-A Excite Pro runs on modern Android OS - 4.2.1 Jelly Bean. The system interface remained practically untouched. The manufacturer only added some widgets and changed the wallpaper. But Toshiba programmers did not stint on the collection of built-in applications. In addition to standard utilities, the program has big number branded services and third-party programs.

On the electronics market, there are now a great many tablets, both from simple firms and from more well-known ones. However, our customers often come across products from Apple or Samsung, but Toshiba gadgets running on Android, unfortunately, are rare guests on store shelves. However, this makes them no less in demand, causing no less interest and admiration, because the Japanese quality in its true performance has not yet found ardent opponents.

In the Toshiba family of tablet PCs, there is one curious instance that was first lit up at the annual IFA 2013 exhibition. It will be discussed in the review. Toshiba Excite AT10LE-A is "stuffed" with powerful components, so it is able to compete on equal terms with most modern high-performance devices.

Design

The Toshiba Excite AT10LE-A tablet measures 261x179x10.5 mm and weighs about 630 grams. For a gadget with a 10-inch display, these are normal dimensions, but the weight is somewhat heavy, so it will be inconvenient to hold the device with one hand for a long time.

The original design of the tablet can not be called, however, there is a certain zest in the design - a pleasant unobtrusive texture in the form of a small-dotted pattern. Perhaps because of this, the gadget does not slip in the hands. Otherwise, it is minimalism bordering on elegance. For example, only the names Toshiba and Harman Kardon are located at the bottom of the display frame, and the front webcam is at the top. On the reverse side of the tablet is the lens of the main camera, as well as grilles behind which the speakers are hidden. By the way, the corners of the case are significantly rounded, so the device does not seem too strict.

The coloring of the tablet is made in two colors: silver (bottom surface and ends) and black (display area). This decision looks very attractive, but most importantly, it does not force lovers of the classics to choose between one and the other. As for the materials, the design is made of plastic. Of course, metal would be more reliable, but in this case there are no special claims to strength, as well as to build quality. By the way, the bottom of the case is matte, which is a good reason to avoid fingerprints.

Display, sound, webcam

The screen of the tablet has an aspect ratio of 16:10, a diagonal of 10.1 inches and a fairly high resolution of 2560x1600 pixels (299 dpi). Previously, the WQXGA display was found in the famous Google Nexus 10. It is worth noting that the IPS screen has a very wide visibility, moreover, it is covered with durable hard glass that will protect against minor mechanical damage. Also, the PixelPure display boasts high levels of brightness, contrast, sharp images and natural colors. In addition, good detail will allow you to enjoy watching movies, as well as playing games. Even reading will be entirely comfortable, despite the small print. In this case, the gloss will remain glossy, so the display will still have a little glare, so using the tablet in street lighting will not be as convenient.

By the way, the touch surface of the display responds well to touch, and also supports 10 simultaneous clicks. In addition, it has an oleophobic coating, which avoids a large number of fingerprints.

The Toshiba tablet has traditionally installed Harman Kardon speakers. They were placed on the sides of the case, so holding the tablet with your hands, you will often close them, which is not very good for volume. In addition, there is support for DTS Premium Voice Pro, which improves the sound quality when listening to music, though not enough to part with headphones or refuse to external speakers. In general, you get a balanced and fairly clear sound, the volume of which is not only enough for a perfectly quiet room.

The gadget also has two cameras. Frontal with a resolution of 1.2 megapixels is suitable for communicating in Skype. If you want to take pictures or shoot video, then the best option would be an 8-megapixel main one.

Unlike the first, this is a camera with autofocus and a flash, so you can get good footage.

Keyboard

For input, you can use the standard android keyboard. There is nothing special to add here, it is, as always, convenient and familiar with its standard layout. Of the additional keys in the tablet, there are "Home", "Back" and "Open Applications Menu".

Performance

Toshiba Excite Pro AT10LE-A runs on operating system Android 4.2 Jelly Bean is equipped with not only modern, but also high-performance stuffing. So, this gadget is equipped with an NVIDIA Tegra 4 T40X processor, which has a 2 MB L2 cache and consists of four cores with a frequency of 1.8 GHz and an auxiliary (up to 800 MHz) used to save money. All cores use the ARM Cortex-A15 MP architecture, so the computing potential of this processor is enough for most tasks, including the most demanding ones.

The graphics in the tablet are processed by a powerful NVIDIA graphics card GeForce ULP with 72 shader processors, 6 times more than Tegra 3. For games, it will provide excellent image quality, detailed and rich picture, and exceptional stable work and the absence of any slowdowns. Such a video card will be able to challenging tasks, and it is quite possible that gamers will find a replacement in the face of the Toshiba Excite AT10LE-A tablet game console. If we talk about movies, then the graphics will freely pull Full HD video.

As for the RAM, it is represented by 2 GB of the DDR3L-1600 MHz standard, soldered to motherboard. But for data storage, 32 GB of flash memory is provided, of which about 26 GB will be available to the user.

Ports and communications

In fact, all interfaces occupy only one side of the tablet - the left. There is a key that adjusts the sound level, as well as a plug under which Micro-HDMI, Micro-USB, a card reader that reads microSD format and a slot for a full-size SIM card are hidden. Interestingly, not Micro-USB is used to recharge the gadget, but a socket located separately.

At the top is the Toshiba Excite AT10LE-A power button and two microphones, and on the right is a hole so that you can attach a lace. The bottom edge is completely free.

The wireless communications of this tablet are Wi-Fi standard 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (the latter with speeds up to 1.3 Gb / s), Bluetooth 4.0 + LE, and 3G. At the same time, there is no NFC, and in fact it is now a frequent guest in modern tablets.

In addition, the device has a number of sensors: an accelerometer, a gyroscope, an ambient light sensor and a digital compass. To determine the location on the map or, for example, to plot a route, you can use the GPS receiver.

Battery

The gadget has a non-removable battery with a capacity of 8920 mAh (32.9 Wh). With such a battery, it can work when watching video for 9 hours and up to 11 hours in reading mode with wireless modules turned off and the display brightness level reduced. The battery is charged using a 36-watt power supply.

Conclusion

The Toshiba Excite Pro AT10LE-A tablet turned out to be less interesting on the outside and more credible on the inside. It has its own advantages and disadvantages. For example, a high-quality display with excellent viewing angles and high resolution along with an outstanding and discreet appearance. Or: on the one hand, considerable weight, on the other - excellent autonomy. Most likely, such a tablet will oust competitors with pleasure, only the struggle will not be easy even with such capabilities and performance, because the cost of the “Japanese” is not the most democratic and is about $710.
